Summer is officially here, and Todd and Julie are settling into a season that looks a little different than years past. From vacation plans with Chloe and Grayson to parenting teenagers, friendships that stand the test of time, and the lessons they wish they had learned sooner, this episode is a candid conversation sparked by questions from listeners. The two reflect on the mistakes they made while raising their children, why responsibility matters more than comfort, and how their perspective on family has evolved over the years. They also share an update on future plans, discuss the possibility of Charleston still being part of their story, and open up about the relationships that carried them through some of life's hardest seasons. Along the way, Todd pays tribute to Nanny Faye, shares why lifelong friendships matter more than ever, and talks about the dangers of comparing your life to what you see on social media. For anyone navigating change, uncertainty, or a new chapter, this conversation is a reminder that growth often comes from the places you never expected. And in a moment that perfectly captures where they are today, Todd and Julie reflect on the surprising truth that losing their freedom taught them how to live more freely than ever before. 00:02:35 - 00:02:47 | Speaker 4:

coming up that i'm excited for chloe's going gray's going um and we haven't really had a like a a vacation kind of trip with them the two of them since we've been home but not with

00:02:47 - 00:02:52 | Speaker 3:

it was just me and you right we haven't had one with them i liked it when it was just me and you

00:02:52 - 00:02:57 | Speaker 4:

well i know but i like it that it's going to be grace and chloe too i'm kind of past all that i

00:02:57 - 00:03:04 | Speaker 3:

kind of like it was just me and you you're so bad well i'm just i'm just at a place now i'm excited

00:03:04 - 00:03:28 | Speaker 4:

i'm excited chloe's out of school that's a good thing for any of you who are watching this podcast if you have children that are within school age you know my feeling you are probably so grateful but it's the beginning of summer so we're so grateful right now that school's out right no more tests no more projects no more having to get up early to get to school no more making lunches

00:03:28 - 00:03:34 | Speaker 3:

and folks i cannot when i tell you i'm exhausted from all of that and he does none of that

00:03:34 - 00:03:58 | Speaker 4:

but i have to hear about he will pick up on occasion um and i'm grateful for that so thank you um so you know as the summer progresses sometimes we're like okay when are they going back to school but i am super happy to have her out right now um we've been just kind of hanging out doing things that you know she wants to do um and she's so good she really is so good

00:03:58 - 00:04:06 | Speaker 3:

chloe is chloe is just a sweet child and she's not high maintenance she is not high maintenance i

00:04:06 - 00:04:33 | Speaker 4:

will no she is not at all and it's um well now i did take her she did go to the mall with me yesterday and uh you know when she gets into sephora it's like she comes alive mom mom i really need this for my face then i really need this for my lips well can i get this for my eyes And I'm like, girl, we came in here to look around and waste time to go get your ears re-pierced.

00:04:33 - 00:04:35 | Speaker 3:

Yes. Because we've only done that three times now.

00:04:35 - 00:04:40 | Speaker 4:

Yeah. Yeah. But so we did that. But so she did pick up a few little things.

00:04:40 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 3:

Speaking of that, I don't know why I'm segwaying into Megan Thee Stallion from Sephora. But, you know, I've done all this research on her now and I actually do like her. But so many people were offended when I said she got her toe blowed off.

00:05:00 - 00:05:41 | Speaker 1:

Well, you know, all I knew, that's all I knew about her was whatever that situation was. Right. But she really is a lot deeper than what. I mean, I was kind of like, wow. Well, I'm so glad that you did that. Yes. Yeah. And I like, I do like, I mean, I do like the fact that she netted a Bentley. I do like that. And I do like the fact that she did not let somebody make an ass out of her like that ball player was trying to do. So I like that she took control of that. so for all of you people that i offended by megan's pinky toe being gone um i just wanted to say that i apologize and megan and i are very good go ahead yeah you're very good we're very

00:05:41 - 00:06:07 | Speaker 2:

good me and the stallion are good okay okay so today you know people all the time ask us questions they you know whether they're following the podcast or just the social media um and we don't always get a chance to answer those questions so today we're going to take a few minutes and we're going to answer spit it out we're going to answer some of the questions that have been posed to us

00:06:07 - 00:06:14 | Speaker 1:

but you always give me lame ass questions that you think i that is just does nothing for me give

00:06:14 - 00:06:21 | Speaker 2:

me the real shit well they're questions i don't create these questions to ask you right they're

00:06:21 - 00:06:28 | Speaker 1:

from actual people so okay then go ahead go ahead and say their name and if it's a lame question

00:06:28 - 00:06:58 | Speaker 2:

you've outed them so go ahead that's not a lame question britney underscore and underscore handling teenagers how to keep the balance and i think this is a good thing because a we have a teenager we now have just one teenager um chloe i know which one you're talking and i think that you are handling this teenager differently than you've handled other teenagers that we've had

00:06:58 - 00:08:06 | Speaker 1:

well i've handled raising each child somewhat differently right because i hope that i was more educated i know that's a far-fetched for some people to believe um i was more educated with each child right um but i think that now at 58 years old um and going through everything that we've gone through i mean we we raised a house full of liars all of our kids were liars and still are we have um you can't get the truth out of them um so i'm just not going to spend the next 20 years of my life or 30 whatever i'm going to have trying to figure out trying to let you know that i know that you're lying or that you're not doing what you're supposed to be doing chloe the answer is no it's just that simple the answer is no no you're not going to somebody's house i did that the same with all the other ones all right they didn't go we have let her go to a few friends no there was no we no i have you did it yes i have i have she doesn't ask a lot well i don't understand this whole sleepover thing i've never done that in my life right

00:08:06 - 00:08:12 | Speaker 2:

when i was hoeing around i did it kids like to so when they have their friends i just think that

00:08:12 - 00:08:25 | Speaker 1:

when kids are saying oh i want to go over to this house and to this house y'all were forming a cartel that's not true so i'm not going to participate in no but i do think keeping a

00:08:25 - 00:08:45 | Speaker 2:

balance and we've talked about this many many times how things we should have done differently with our kids um i definitely think that regardless your kids need to have some responsibilities um they need to be able to be self-sufficient to a certain degree

00:08:45 - 00:09:38 | Speaker 1:

they need to learn normal everyday things i just saw this on instagram the other day not to cut you off it was from a psychologist who said that the greatest gift you will give your children is from the age of four on by giving them a task that they are responsible for because that teaches them responsibility it teaches them pride in the accomplishment of doing it and that and that you keep elevating that you know you go from a small task to a bigger one to a bigger one and it's building self-esteem in your child we didn't do that no we didn't we had we had so many people helping us and you know how people cleaned our houses and a lot of times i would be like i want it done a certain way so i'll just do it myself and then you turn around and you're bitter over

00:09:38 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 2:

that right right and i think that was a mistake i made now at 53 i can't she's 59 no i can acknowledge that yes that was a mistake i made i should have just taken the time to say no honey that's not the way we do it this is how we do it walk them through and be a little more

00:10:00 - 00:10:06 | Speaker 1:

patient with them and it would have been maybe a different outcome so i don't i think that that's

00:10:06 - 00:10:41 | Speaker 2:

one of the things that you and i neither one brought to the table was patience no we didn't um because we knew how and the reason i think that we didn't come to the table with patience is because we had been taught those things from our parents right and we just came into this parenthood thinking well i didn't lick windows i didn't ride the short bus i didn't wear a helmet so none of my kids are doing that so they'll know how to do this right and they don't and and they didn't no and i mean you know savannah's not a great housekeeper you know i get on to her

00:10:41 - 00:11:06 | Speaker 1:

all the time but she has help right and i say that we also came from a different place different generation different time where and we wanted to feed that inner child in us that didn't have certain things so we wanted to make sure our kids had it in abundance yes and we went it was the greatest mistake that we ever made it really was it was the biggest injustice that we did for them

00:11:06 - 00:11:37 | Speaker 2:

well i say that people like myself and you and so many others that come from you know middle class or you know middle class or humble beginnings and then god blesses you and you do so well that you're like oh my god i'm gonna make sure that my child never feels this or that they that they get to go do this or they have the best of this right and what we're really doing is stripping away from them their desires to have those things on their own right and or to work for

00:11:37 - 00:12:34 | Speaker 1:

and to have any appreciation for it it's so true it's so true so that's my take on the teenager right now um somebody and we've had a few questions about charleston because we did say that we and we still are but we're not you know what our plans are and that we were wanting to open a hotel in charleston that we wanted to do all these things right so south carolina is where we're both from for those of you who don't know uh and we both love charleston so that is still something that down the road three years i say that we may do or that we uh we feel like we will maybe we won't live there permanently or full time but maybe we'll have a place willing to do that or you're not you know let's just be very clear like i feel like we are experiencing a lots of change and transition in our family right now and i don't really know where we're going to end up

00:12:34 - 00:13:56 | Speaker 2:

Well, I know what you're referencing and the rest of the world doesn't. But, you know, I have been very clear on where I stand on things at this particular phase of our life. And our kids, we have raised our children. Yes. We have done our job. Yes. You can still be a you will be a parent, as my mother says, till the day that you die and beyond. Yes. My mother says she's a parent till God takes her last breath. And then she becomes a parent in prayer after that. Right. So for me, I feel like that my responsibility at this juncture of my life is to be a good, solid, faithful husband to you and to make sure that I'm leading in a way that you're proud of and that you that you feel good about doing. Absolutely. Me, too. I feel the same. But I don't feel like that we owe our children the rest of our days. No, I don't. And so what she's trying, she's trying not to tell y'all something and I'm not going to tell it, but it's not our job to be where one child wants us to be. Right. You're right. It's our job to be where we are. Right. You're right. Because their home is where we are. Right. So regardless of where they scatter to.

00:13:56 - 00:13:56 | Speaker 1:

Yeah.

00:13:57 - 00:13:59 | Speaker 2:

Our home is where is their home.

00:13:59 - 00:14:59 | Speaker 1:

i agree so we'll leave it at that yes okay okay so summer's here you did your spring cleaning like i did we all need to do a refresh at times and if you've noticed that your sheets are slipping off the corners or maybe your pillows don't feel as supportive as they used to most people are actually keeping their bedding way longer than they should it slowly wears down and you don't realize how much it's affecting your sleep until you finally replace it. 00:18:28 - 00:18:43 | Speaker 5:

The next question, you mentioned your mother. This is funny. tanya 26552 says will nanny write a book i love when she talks about her childhood memories tanya

00:18:43 - 00:20:00 | Speaker 4:

you know that me and mama are every day i'm i'm goading her along or whatever but the shit that she says she should do an audio book yeah i think mama should do an audio book because then people are going to then there's going to be a second version of that of where someone has dissected what she actually said and put it in terms that you can actually understand um i think that mama for me she's a lifetime treasure absolutely um to the world she's become a national treasure right because people love her so much and i cannot say this enough this chrisley knows best was the first time that my mother ever had what i would say is a true voice to where she was heard right and say yes she did not come from a generation that women were looked at to given you know that their opinions mattered they had very defined roles and my mother was just never of that norm. I mean, she was not going to do that. You were not going to talk down to her. But your mother was also just.

00:20:00 - 00:20:36 | Speaker 2:

day um she was a worker and she was a provider and she just kind of forced her own path she just kind of kept her head down and kept doing what she had to do was never about her she never led a selfish life no um and i feel like people just i don't want to say took advantage of her but they did she was taking advantage of just you know whether it was like she was always the one to cook and she was always the one to open her house up and she was always the one to just do and just take and take um so i love too that the show gave her that voice that she didn't have

00:20:36 - 00:21:08 | Speaker 1:

i say it's the greatest gift that the show ever gave was that it gave my mother a voice and it allowed the world to see what kind of mother i have had my whole life what kind of woman she is at her heart and and also to really showcase the relationship that you two have um because you know i poke at her about that all the time right and you know prime example was this past week you know you took her to the casino yes and um y'all didn't tell me until literally the day before so we left

00:21:08 - 00:21:26 | Speaker 2:

and we went and visited two of my friends and we had lunch with them and uh had a great time nanny had a great this is josie who does my honey yes and then we went to um then we i took her to the casino after and we spent the night at the casino and then we got up and came home the next

00:21:26 - 00:24:01 | Speaker 1:

morning and but she had already started laying the groundwork um she had not even been out of the house and on the highway for 40 minutes yeah and she had you to call and she said todd i think i'm gonna stay four days and y'all come back and get me no one's doing that i'm not i don't have the time to run up and down the highway and you don't either right right but i have hired someone once we get moved that will now take her wherever she wants to go they will stay with her if she wants to stay in the casino for a week or a month they will stay there in that in that hotel with her in their own room right and make sure that she's going down for food make sure that she's doing whatever she's supposed to be doing she's not stripping or whatever um and of course she's fighting back on that right because she said i'm not having nobody tell me what to do it is the most rebellious child that i have ever raised is my 82 year old mother she'll be 82 in september yes but going back to what the show did of highlighting the relationship that y'all have she literally likes it when it's just the two of you yes she really likes it when it's just you and her yes and like i will say well i'll get oh god julie i told you not to tell him yeah and so it's i love that i love and i say that it's one of the greatest gifts that a man will ever have is to marry a woman that loves their mother the way you love their the way that man loves his mother. That's the greatest gift. And I have got to witness that. I watched that because daddy worshiped the ground you walked on. And I look back on so many things, Julie, and, and I think about over the course of my, you know, journey with my faith and my spiritual journey, that so many things in my life that I have prayed for have actually happened. Because I used to pray, God, let me have, let me have, I want to marry a woman that does all the things that my mama does. And you let this, it went over your head the other day because you never grabbed a hold of it. But I did not miss it. I prayed to have a wife that was going to be as good a wife to me as what my mother had been to my daddy. As good a mother as what my mother had been to me and my brother. And I got all that.

00:24:02 - 00:24:02 | Unknown:

Thank you.

00:24:02 - 00:24:15 | Speaker 1:

But then Grayson says to you, mom, I want, I want my wife to be just like you. I want her to be just like you.

00:24:15 - 00:24:16 | Speaker 2:

Trace has said that.

00:24:16 - 00:27:09 | Speaker 1:

And so think about that. The things that I prayed for back in the seventies, my boys are praying for today. It's a, I don't believe that. I don't believe that the mess. I believe the message is the same. The delivery is off. The delivery differs today. But at the core of every man, I believe that a man wants to have a loyal, faithful wife that is going to be an excellent mother. She's going to run, run their lives the way that they should be ran, because ultimately women do run the lives. Or that's the experience that I have come to learn. Um... And and I think that men, in order for women to want to to step into those roles, men have to be able to do what generations before me did, which was to make that woman feel safe, to give her a home to run, to make sure that the that that he's providing everything that she needs in order for her to do what he wants her to do and hopefully what is feeding her. Right. I got all of that. And I do think I do sometimes think my heart aches sometimes for my boys because I don't see girls today that were like the girls of my day. Right. And the girls of my day, I mean, you know, I think about, you know, all the people that I went to high school with in elementary school and middle school. and you know and all the girls were just very clean and wholesome and friendly and well i said back you found some of them well listen there's a purpose for everyone darling um if it hadn't been for them i wouldn't have been as good as what i was when you got me um but at the end of the day i think about all the people that i went to school with and i think that you know as i get older i start to reminisce more back to that and i think they we were really good kids we really were good kids so you know was i out hoeing around at 14 i was i was just trying to help the community i was in the community service very early yeah um but i just feel like that that this society today they don't have they're not raising their daughters to be like you right and there is something that parents need to be paying attention to and i'm gonna say this because i know that it's how so many parents feel who are raising sons a mother that is raising a son today

00:27:09 - 00:28:22 | Speaker 1:

wants the same thing for their adult son that i wanted when i married you they can sit out here and burn their bras and have their have their champagne and then you know nine glasses of wine you know and bitch about your husbands on girls night and whatever but at the end of the day when it comes time for their son to pick someone the first thing that every woman does that we know of can you believe how she dresses she doesn't do his laundry oh no they don't she doesn't cook julie they have to go out to dinner how many of our friends have said that about the girls that their sons are bringing home yeah it's true it's true and it's true you just are not going to until we get to a place to where we all understand you can still be created equal man and woman can be equal yeah they are but there's a different equal if you want to be equal as a man, come change the tires on that truck. Come chop that wood. Come put the roof on that house. Again, you got to be careful when you start talking about equality.

You do, but people bring different things to the table. That's when you're equal. Equals make the whole.

00:28:31 - 00:28:38 | Speaker 1:

That's right. But don't diminish a man and what he does if you can't do what you're saying that you're complaining about him doing.

00:30:00 - 00:30:57 | Speaker 5:

being truly listened to. What I love about Good Girl RX is that it's built around real medical care and compassion. Through their telehealth platform, women can meet virtually with licensed medical providers who take the time to review your health history and goals. If it's clinically appropriate, your provider may discuss personalized treatment options, including GLP-1 medications like trisepatide, as well as wellness therapies such as NAD. Everything is determined by a doctor and tailored to the individual. As a mother, it means everything to me that this company was created to help women feel supported instead of judged. Everyone's journey is different, results vary, and not everyone qualifies, but having access to licensed physicians who truly listen can make all the difference. If you're ready to take a step toward prioritizing your health, visit goodgirlrx.com and use code CONFESSIONS15 for 15% off at checkout. Medical care is provided by licensed physicians.

Okay, this is from Kimawing2016.

00:32:12 - 00:32:13 | Speaker 4:

Probably these are fake names.

00:32:13 - 00:32:15 | Speaker 5:

Did you have, well, I've not created them.

00:32:17 - 00:32:18 | Speaker 4:

Not what Judge Ross said.

00:32:18 - 00:32:23 | Speaker 5:

did you have full support and communication from your friends when incarcerated

00:32:23 - 00:32:44 | Speaker 4:

the ones that are my friends yeah yeah but i had a lot of i received so many letters me too that they would not bring them to me anymore because they said it was a security risk and they would make me come up to r&d and i had these bags of mail yeah i was not you know i wasn't going through

00:32:44 - 00:33:17 | Speaker 5:

all that i we we did we got lots of mail from just random people um but i got i got mail from friends from i got emails from people that i corresponded with that checked in on me um you know and the people that really mattered you know i just talked to all of mine i continue well i didn't do that i didn't have that privilege um she had it she just chose to follow but you know i would say i did not have it don't even don't even put that out there you had the opportunity no I did not I didn't try to go out here and have that opportunity I know you were not as

00:33:17 - 00:33:23 | Speaker 4:

entrepreneurial as I was no what entrepreneurial yeah okay no I was just doing the right thing

00:33:23 - 00:33:57 | Speaker 5:

um but you know I was actually listening to a podcast this morning and uh it was with Gail King was on the podcast and she said you know that the older you get the the smaller that your circle gets and really if you just have one true friend that's a lot just one I don't have just one true friend but I feel like your circle does get very small and I think when you go through something like this that we've gone through your circle gets even smaller do you feel that way

00:33:57 - 00:34:03 | Speaker 4:

though do you really feel that uh because our circle was so small to begin with right I don't

00:34:03 - 00:34:09 | Speaker 5:

know i think maybe my circle just changed a little bit you know um well some people are in your life

00:34:09 - 00:36:56 | Speaker 4:

for a season right and some are going to finish the journey with you right i have held on to those that are going to finish the journey with right absolutely and absolutely me too you know and you've talked about that yes me a lot yes uh todd is still friends with the same people that he's been friends with his entire life right right and and you have become friends with those people yes Yes. And we cut up and laugh and I can be on the phone and then I just put it on speaker and then you pick up and start talking. Right. And that's another blessing because you love the same friends that I have loved my whole life. Now, you know, folks, you hear me talk about my friend Stephanie all the time. Stephanie and I have been friends forever. Well, you know, forever. And I love her with all of my heart and soul. She's the only ginger that I've ever loved. I've slept with a lot of them, but I didn't love them. Um, But she has been loyal and steadfast and true. Yes. And I'm going to have her on the podcast, you know, sometime this summer, late summer, early fall, because I begged her to come to Nashville. And I want to start this journey with her on because I feel like that she's given her whole life to raising her girls. And she did that as a single mother. and i just can't say enough about her as a woman as a female as a friend because she has always just been so steadfast and i want to follow this i want to join this journey with her because she's losing weight she's doing uh good girl rx and um you know i want to if she wants to have a facelift I want to give her a facelift if she wants to do something you know regarding dental work I want to give her that dental work um I want to be the kind of friend I feel like I am that friend but I don't feel like that we as friends should ever be thinking that we're something to someone that we're not you know I want her to feel that I am to her what I believe she is to me right and And so that she really has always been my circle. Right. She's always been the person that I ran to when we talked about everything from having kids. She had, you know, she had Tiffany and then I had Lindsay and, you know, and then I had Kyle and then, you know, she had Jordan. Right. And then years later, she had Alicia. And, you know, now we're going through this whole process of her. She's got she's like, you know, literally old Mother Hubbard in the shoe, you know, with all of her grandbabies. And she'll come and say, oh, my God, did you see my grandson? I said, Stephanie, that's the ugliest. You go to hell. You done lost your mind.

00:36:57 - 00:37:00 | Speaker 3:

And I can't wait. It'll be good for her to come on the podcast with you.

00:37:00 - 00:38:17 | Speaker 4:

I want her to come on the podcast. And I believe that I'd like to do a podcast with her. You know, just me and her. Because we have such great chemistry and she's just such a good, decent soul. But she's so direct and so honest about how she feels. And listen, she's a Democrat. Yeah. And she's always been a Democrat. I've always been a Republican. And we folks, our relationship and our friendship should show the world that we have never allowed politics to come in the middle of it. That's right. And she does not. She's she doesn't love our president. Right. And, you know, she says, I love what he did. She said, but I love what he did for you. And so, you know, I think that when you go back to your as you get older, your circle gets smaller mine has really stayed the same yeah you know i have i have stephanie and i have terrence and i have jay and you know jason and yeah i have a lot of i have a lot of guys that you know that i talk to and that i'd message with but stephanie will go down as being i'm sorry terrence stephanie will go down as being yeah my ride and die yes yes yes

Okay, and I know this next one, Haley R19. Do not, I don't want you to be ugly.

00:39:29 - 00:39:32 | Speaker 4:

That means she's prepping me for some shit right now.

00:39:32 - 00:39:35 | Speaker 3:

What is your favorite way to spend time with each other despite busy schedules?

00:39:36 - 00:39:37 | Speaker 4:

You know what it is.

00:39:37 - 00:39:38 | Speaker 3:

See, that's what I'm talking about.

00:39:38 - 00:39:48 | Speaker 4:

No, you asked me to be honest. You know what it is. What do you constantly say to me? Tide. Tide. Todd, stop.

00:39:49 - 00:39:51 | Speaker 3:

Yeah. But no, I'm, no. But what do we like to do?

00:39:51 - 00:39:52 | Speaker 4:

But then she says, okay.

00:39:52 - 00:39:56 | Speaker 3:

What do we like to do? Other than, Todd?

00:39:58 - 00:39:59 | Speaker 4:

I'm sorry.

00:40:00 - 00:40:08 | Speaker 1:

my lips were dry what do we like to do do you want me to say really or you want me to say some

00:40:08 - 00:40:14 | Speaker 2:

a g version no i want you to be honest with what we like to do things we like to do together

00:40:14 - 00:40:25 | Speaker 1:

well we we go out to eat we shop mostly she shops we like to we like to just get out and ride around

00:40:25 - 00:41:00 | Speaker 2:

we ride around and we look at real estate and we've done that our whole life yes like i think all of our kids i mean from lindsey not so much chloe but pretty much between lindsey and grayson yes they will tell you our whole life we would get out and we'd look at houses and we'd dream right yes but what we wanted next yes where we wanted to live and and oh well maybe we could buy this and redo it or whatever that was part of our dreams together and i think that is one of the reasons that we have been together this long i think that you and i because we we share so many

00:41:00 - 00:41:16 | Speaker 1:

things in common we have so many things in common um we're a good balance but we share a lot of things in common too yes and i think that at this phase in my life i think we laugh a lot more

00:41:16 - 00:41:49 | Speaker 2:

yeah i think we laugh a lot i think we do and i think we uh give each other space because like sometimes you don't really want to do anything right and i'm like most i ain't never not wanted to do that okay i'm like okay i'm calling isabel or i'm calling shauna or i'm calling you know whatever and you're fine with that because you know where i am and what i'm doing well and well i don't know about you and shauna and you know that you know like we we give each other that space that we need we're not so we're not clingy clingy we're not clingy never been that but i think

00:41:49 - 00:41:55 | Speaker 1:

that the reason that we're not clingy is because we're in a safe space we are but i do think our

00:41:55 - 00:42:50 | Speaker 2:

whole marriage though really we always and you've said this before we had defined roles yes of what what we were responsible for what we were kind of our we tried to stay in our lane right and so we didn't have time to really be clingy you know like we've always come together like at night and like some people say like they don't watch tv in their bedroom or whatever but we would come together we'd watch our shows in our in our bedroom or that was kind of our place after we put the kids to bed and whatever but during the day we kind of had our own thing you know whether i was working you were working or i was taking care of the kids or whatever it was and we kind of kept those defined roles which in turn we always had something to do but it it also we didn't find our like like we had to be with each other all the time but you know we also we also

00:42:50 - 00:43:22 | Speaker 1:

communicate i think that we i think that we we talk to each other yes we have conversations right and you and i for the most part are always on the same page until you start getting a little shaky and weak with one of the kids that kind of pull you to the side mom he's not talking to me mom dad said no you know and then you end up melting down a little bit and i have to snap you out of it that's okay but i feel like that i feel like that we have a lot in common

00:43:22 - 00:43:49 | Speaker 2:

right and i think that that's what has sustained us for 30 years absolutely absolutely um what was the this is from hayley r19 again another hayley um what was the last thing you two did together the night before you left for prison i don't even remember it was it wasn't that good todd well you know i mean i do think if we're being honest but let me ask you something yeah and

00:43:49 - 00:43:58 | Speaker 1:

then we'll go back to that what is it that causes you to be so guarded over the world knowing that

00:43:58 - 00:44:01 | Speaker 2:

you screw your husband that's just all you want to talk about it's not what i want to talk about

00:44:01 - 00:44:16 | Speaker 1:

they're asking a question what do you do okay i have always been honest and coming on any show and saying yeah yes she is a freak in the sheets you are such a lie okay okay we're moving on from

00:44:16 - 00:44:24 | Speaker 2:

this one sorry hayley i can't even start um will you ever do a live podcast tour well you know we

00:44:24 - 00:45:29 | Speaker 1:

were we were in the process of doing that yes and then all the other production stuff did not make sense then there was no schedule that would it would work right so so probably yes um but you know i am also i have an offer now to do a comedy routine that just came in that offer just came in and i don't know if i'm gonna do that i mean you know what you know the kids how they're pissed off right now because i won't do anything yeah and they want me doing everything and i Thank you.

00:45:00 - 00:45:52 | Speaker 2:

kind of am that petulant child like I complain about my mother that I don't want to do what I don't want to do right I don't want to be out of my bed yeah at night I don't want to I like my home I like the privacy that I have inside my home and I feel safe there yes so I'm just not at a phase in my life right now to where I want to go and be on a plane you know at this location and this location and you know the the bus tour that they wanted me to do or whatever it was around the country yeah and I got to thinking about me being on a tour bus for 20 what was it 26 weeks or something for the out of the year for that tour that was a lot that was a lot for me and I just I just couldn't do that right right so will I do something at at some point this year probably

00:45:52 - 00:45:58 | Speaker 3:

but it's not going to be in every state well no i think you just have to pick and choose it started

00:45:58 - 00:46:09 | Speaker 2:

out it was going to be pick and choose right and then every day the agents was sending this over we're adding this tour date we're adding this and then it became overwhelming yeah yeah yeah so i

00:46:09 - 00:46:38 | Speaker 3:

think we just have to figure out some logistics and you know for us i think we have hit the ground running so hard and it's so hard for us to say no because we're like we're so grateful it's not hard for me to say but it's grateful for us you know we feel so grateful for all the opportunities that have come our way but we have to like say okay we got to give ourself a minute and we got to make sure it makes sense and that you know logistically it's right right i think that

00:46:38 - 00:47:01 | Speaker 2:

you know we have so much stuff that's going on that's behind the scenes right that is also going to to play a large part of if i don't want to be gone now i'm certainly not going to be gone then right right and um i just feel like that i'm in a good safe space and i don't want to interrupt that right now right i don't know that i ever want to interrupt it again i guess there was

00:47:01 - 00:47:15 | Speaker 3:

another question you know uh summer just started it's graduation lots of kids just graduated um what advice would you give to the high school graduate today in 2026

00:47:15 - 00:47:53 | Speaker 2:

what advice would i give to a high school graduate today wrap it up um outside of that um i would say that you're going to be okay everything is always going to be okay that the things that you worry about now will not matter five years from now 10 years from now or 10 10 years now you won't even think about it yeah and 95 of all the things that we that we fear the most never happen anyway right and i mean think about this you've been out of high school

00:47:53 - 00:49:06 | Speaker 3:

for 40 years this year it's a lie i tell you 40 40 40 years this year and what are you 51 no but that's crazy right but you know 40 years uh but you know i would also tell people and you know that live your life and live it responsibly and respectfully and respectfully um but also live your life and and whatever that looks like knowing that you got to take the good and the bad and that you've got to suffer those consequences, right? As Judge Ross said, there are consequences. But that everybody's path is different. And find something that you truly love to do, that you feel passionate about doing. Because I do think that there's so many people. Or find someone you're passionate about doing. There's so many people that are just, you know, they just exist. They just exist. They just find that job or they, you know, get into that career because it was either expected of them or it was just something and they're just miserable every day. And I do think if our situation has taught me anything,

00:49:06 - 00:49:10 | Speaker 2:

it's to live your life, enjoy every day

00:49:10 - 00:49:41 | Speaker 1:

and understand what a blessing it is. From the efficiency of American natural gas and the dependability of nuclear power to the strength of Florida's sunshine and the flexibility of advanced battery storage systems. At FPL, we leverage a diverse mix of energy sources to power our growing state, ensuring reliable, low-cost power whenever you need it. See how at FPL.com. FPL, working for you every single day.

00:49:43 - 00:49:59 | Speaker 2:

And not everyone, the sad part about it is, is that all of your friends that you've been friends with that you grew up with, you're now going out into the adult world. you're now going to go into that second chapter of your life and that chapter is

00:50:00 - 00:50:28 | Speaker 1:

going to be filled with all new experiences and all new people and you'll eventually be like uh well I've got I'm with so-and-so now so I can't talk to you even though we went 12 years of school together right and you will find that when you start entering into that chapter that I'm in right now that you start having more contact with those that you grew up with and that was you know that you had as a child right um I would say to stay close to your family yes stay close

00:50:28 - 00:51:00 | Speaker 2:

to your family um and i would also say give yourself grace we talked about this in a in a negative way where we said our kids you know this generation they want to be what it's taken us 30 years to get to right they want to start out with that i would say to the kids just graduating the young adults to give yourself grace you know you should not have it all you're not going to have it all figured out right now i don't care if you're graduating high school graduating college whatever you're not going to have it all figured out and it's okay and and also remember that

00:51:00 - 00:52:06 | Speaker 1:

you're not entitled at 18 years old getting a high school diploma to have the same car that your mom and daddy's driving or to own a home like what you grew up in right you're not entitled to that right you get the same opportunity that your mom and dad did which was to go out here and to earn that and work hard and to work hard for that. And, um, have fun, laugh, cry. Cause if, if it's bad enough for you to cry over, it meant something. Right. So feel that lean into that. Don't hide it. Don't run away from it. Lean into it. Right. Because every bad situation that has ever happened in my life has prepared me for something greater coming down the road. Right. And I do believe that what happened with us was just prep for God's glory that that's in front of us. And we've already seen that. I think that you have to be at a place to where because you're not at 18, you're not at peace with yourself. You don't even know who the hell you are. So it's not you can't say I'm at peace with myself at 18. You don't even know who you're trying to make peace with.

00:52:06 - 00:52:07 | Speaker 2:

Right.

00:52:08 - 00:52:18 | Speaker 1:

And, you know, you're going to get to a place, I think, at 24, 25, because we've we've been there at these phases. that to where you now, all of a sudden, you have forgotten more than your mom and daddy already know.

00:52:18 - 00:52:20 | Speaker 2:

Right, and you still don't know anything.

00:52:20 - 00:52:21 | Speaker 1:

And you still know nothing.

00:52:21 - 00:52:21 | Speaker 2:

Right.

00:52:22 - 00:52:33 | Speaker 1:

And the parents that you don't think you need are the same people that you run to when all the things you were doing when you didn't need them have fallen apart.

00:52:34 - 00:52:53 | Speaker 2:

Right, right. And I think that you look at someone and you think, okay, you know, here we're in our 20s but man they've got it figured out they're doing amazing they're just you know and here i am feeling horrible because i don't have this or i'm not at that place things are not what they appear

00:52:53 - 00:53:36 | Speaker 1:

i said this to my friend patrick yesterday because he was kind of down in the ruts and i said patrick his his statement was i look at i look at all these people and how their lives are going and and I'm like babe what are we doing wrong why is none of this ever trickling down to us and I said well first of all let me just stop you I said you are coveted the Bible tells you not to covet thy neighbor's own goods right so if you are coveting someone else's life that is their goods right right and I said so that life doesn't belong to you right if someone has a life and they're having blessings right now be thrilled for that because your time is coming right but all that glitters

00:53:36 - 00:53:49 | Speaker 2:

is not gold. That's right. And I think that's a downfall of social media. All that glitters is not gold. There's a snippet here and you don't see the other 23 hours and 50 minutes. So you're

00:53:49 - 00:54:59 | Speaker 1:

seeing a 10 minute snippet. I think that people should really, and like I told him, I said, Patrick, listen to me. If everything on their feed is perfect, it's curated. Right. And I said, So pray for them because they have literally decided my life is so bad that I'm going to create this false narrative so that the rest of the world doesn't see how bad my life is. And I think that that has been one of the greatest injustices that social media has done because it has separated humanity. It has separated people from having a compassionate heart towards their fellow man. If I see you suffering, I want to help you. I want to be able to put my arm around you and say, it's going to be okay. But if I see you getting on a G7 and, you know, a Rolls Royce is picking you up when you land and, you know, you're wearing Gucci or Prada or Louis Vuitton and you got 12 pieces. I ain't praying for you. Right. You done got all the prayer you need. So, and yet none of this belonged to you. Right. The G7 didn't belong to you. The car was rented. that the

00:55:00 - 00:56:18 | Speaker 2:

was a prop right so you are literally you have put yourself in this gilded cage and and locked it in to where now you got to keep creating this false content to create the narrative that your life is so great but yet when you go to bed at night you're you're aware of the lie that you're living right and don't do that right let people love you right and gravitate towards you because they find something relatable about you exactly if you're gravitating towards someone because they have all of this stuff you're not relating to them you're relating to the stuff to the imagery of it and stuff is what it is right and you know yourself that i am so opposite today of what i have ever been i'm still thank god i'm still grateful that i can dress well and that i can go buy what i want to buy but i don't do it that much anymore because those things just don't matter to me like they used to matter i really don't give a shit if you think that i look 58 or if you think that i've gained 10 pounds or 15 sometimes it might be 17 um but i don't care right because i'm not going to give the rest of my life to someone that i've never met right and i do think that

00:56:18 - 00:56:52 | Speaker 3:

prison like we learned that we could live on way less way less and like you know like it just completely changes how you look at things not to not to say that we don't love nice things and that we don't know because clearly you still do things and i do i love that and and i'm that that bible doesn't say that's wrong to want nice things and to work hard to have nice things um but we have learned that we can survive on way less and that things are just things yes things are just things

00:56:52 - 00:58:01 | Speaker 2:

and I care more about people and more about the personal relationship than I do the superficial relationship um I just I think I love differently today right I think that that the way I love is different um the things i care most about are really the same things minus all that i've been able to because i love so deeply our children and you and my mother and the friends that we have um that i want to be that person that is going to show up in my pajamas if you need me right you know and i can and i'm just being 100 honest yeah i would have never left the house if i was not dressed you know that yeah no you wouldn't if every hair was not in place if my clothes were not perfect if my my shoes didn't match the belt i didn't leave no and now i will throw a ball cap on and go and do what i need to do right and i think that that 28 months helped me to get to that place that i had wanted to get to my whole life yeah but was never able never had enough

00:58:01 - 00:58:07 | Speaker 3:

self-confidence to do it isn't it crazy to think that you had to literally live in jail

00:58:07 - 00:58:16 | Speaker 2:

i was not in jail but i'm just saying i'm just saying from figuratively speaking you had to be

00:58:16 - 00:58:31 | Speaker 3:

in jail to really learn how to be how to live free that it took us me going to jail going to prison to really learn how to live freely yes isn't that crazy it is it is the that is the best statement

00:58:31 - 00:58:52 | Speaker 2:

yeah it took being it took freedom being taken from you in order for you to feel free to learn how to live freely i mean that that is that that's where we close yeah that it took our freedom being taken in order for us to finally feel free yeah thank you for that yeah folks until next week

Hi there, it's Becca Tobin. I am currently the mother of a 4-year-old, which means I have been through it. But I still have questions and maybe even a few answers. From surrogacy to toddler chaos, I have learned a lot and also not. That's why I decided to launch Baby Gang, a six-part series from the Lady Gang, where I'm getting real about fertility, parenting, and all the stuff nobody actually tells you. I'm bringing in some experts for the tough stuff and some other celeb moms and friends for parenting survival stuff. It's honest, it's messy, it's emotional, and yes, we are definitely laughing through it. Because whether you're in it, thinking about it, or just curious, we've got you. So, join the Baby Gang wherever you get your podcasts.
