Looks like the back-to-school list is back. You mean the list that comes with its own list. No teddy bears this year, no purple anything, no whatever we found last week. Which is why we're shopping at Walmart. Walmart? Glitter headphones to match your backpack, check. K-pop Demon Hunter's notebooks, check. And all the boring stuff that's somehow not boring. Oh, check out these folders and crayons starting at just 25 cents. Check, check. Okay, this is so my vibe. And check. Who knew? This back-to-school, check out the whole list for less at Walmart's. Prices vary by location.

00:01:47 - 00:01:52 | Speaker 2:

Whenever they first started. Podcasts weren't out in 2008. Or no, not 2008. Memory loss.

Yeah, like you don't have five kids or something.

00:02:31 - 00:02:33 | Speaker 2:

That's crazy. Speaking of five kids, congrats.

00:02:33 - 00:02:35 | Speaker 1:

Five kids, wow. Five kids.

00:02:35 - 00:02:36 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, how's that been?

00:02:37 - 00:02:37 | Speaker 1:

Five kids.

00:02:40 - 00:02:41 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, how is that?

00:02:41 - 00:02:42 | Speaker 3:

Five kids.

00:02:42 - 00:02:48 | Speaker 1:

We keep saying five kids. You don't have five kids. Are we really entering a podcast mode? I feel like we're like, this is like.

00:02:49 - 00:02:53 | Speaker 3:

I've got three kids. You've got five kids, dude. I've got five. No, five. Tell me about that.

00:02:53 - 00:03:18 | Speaker 1:

What is five minus three? two well I've been at camp these last nine weeks so you're an absent father yeah I've barely been home I've had the older three at camp every day but most days Mary Kate's got their twins does your kids go to camp yeah they've been a couple times do you drive like a limousine

00:03:18 - 00:03:21 | Speaker 3:

or something like how do you fit five kids in a car

00:03:21 - 00:03:23 | Speaker 1:

no see that's the thing

00:03:23 - 00:03:28 | Speaker 3:

you know what he drives I don't know what he drives. What? What do you drive? I don't know what you drive.

00:03:28 - 00:03:31 | Speaker 1:

This brother-in-law has amnesia. I don't know what's wrong with that.

00:03:31 - 00:03:32 | Speaker 3:

What do you drive? A suburban?

00:03:33 - 00:03:34 | Unknown:

I can't tell.

00:03:34 - 00:03:39 | Speaker 1:

He's never on the podcast. He doesn't know what I drive. Do you know anything about us?

00:03:39 - 00:03:42 | Speaker 2:

I can't tell if you're curious or like playing dumb. You know anything about us. Suburban?

00:03:43 - 00:03:52 | Speaker 1:

Suburban. Are you crazy? Do you drive a suburban? Is that what you drive? Yeah, you got it. Mary Kay drives you got it. Hey, what's your license plate number? What's your wife's name?

00:03:54 - 00:04:00 | Speaker 2:

wait wait what camp but you said you've been at a camp yeah nine weeks yeah sorry i don't know

00:04:00 - 00:04:04 | Speaker 3:

what you drive but do you drive a big vehicle with five kids well it is but there's five seats

00:04:04 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 1:

and there's five kids and they all fit but i think that's where when you've got six kids six you can probably still fit in a normal car well you have to get like a special car for your children that's when you've reached like another level of i don't i don't think you can in a normal car yeah i've got like three if one's old enough if you cut your wife out and there's one old enough to ride front seat you can if you don't have a middle if you have a middle seat if you cut your wife out of the car you know she drives separate you can fit six like if your kid's old enough to ride in the front seat then theoretically you can't if you had one more like no one's old enough to ride in the front yeah well we don't have a middle seat in the middle some cars have middle seats in the middle so you can fit six you know the bucket seat so what's going on in y'all's lives what are y'all up to like we're not filming the the show right now what are y'all doing uh well we're we're just hanging out right now i mean i have a lot of ella worship stuff happening

00:05:00 - 00:05:05 | Speaker 2:

The past several months has been just traveling, going pretty much all over the country.

00:05:05 - 00:05:06 | Speaker 4:

What's the last place y'all went?

00:05:08 - 00:05:40 | Speaker 2:

Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Dirty Myrtle. Dirty Myrtle. Dirty Myrtle. Did you like that? It was actually awesome. It was really, really cool. Yeah. We were at a student life camp, so it was just like a bunch of churches come together for beach camp, pretty much. Yeah, yeah. And we led worship all week, and it was dope. Oh, that's cool. we were expecting abby was expecting to go and lay out on the beach every single day after we led in the morning but once we took a look at the beach it was sad it ain't those gulf coast beaches

00:05:40 - 00:06:09 | Speaker 4:

no no ain't no gulf shores ain't no gulf shores ain't no galveston tix ain't no grand dial yeah uh but yeah other than that man we're we're just hanging out Doing music, hanging out, that's cool. Living the dream. We just live in L.A. John Reed. John, tell us about your store and your... Speakeasy. Your bar. Why do you have to say it like that? Your bar. Yeah, tell us about your liquor sales and your speakeasy.

00:06:10 - 00:06:18 | Speaker 1:

Man, they are just out of sight, man. He just got his liquor license. I'm working on getting it right now. So, what, the store? Just tell us about it.

00:06:18 - 00:06:25 | Speaker 4:

Well, I mean, Rebecca was just on here. I think she talked about it. But this is from your perspective. Yeah. Your perspective is valuable.

00:06:26 - 00:06:36 | Speaker 3:

Y'all have been building this building, renovating this building for forever. What's the year? Actually, can you remember? Since you last did a podcast.

00:06:36 - 00:07:11 | Speaker 1:

I bought the building in 2018. Okay. I demolished it myself inside, did all the demolition myself in a year and a half after I bought it. Then it sat there for a while. and then i was super busy in the moving industry yeah and i got to the building and started building it out i guess and then rebecca's store is super funky and cool is that always the dream was like her store in there or like did you have a different idea for it yeah uh one space yeah she always wanted another store yeah so we um did that and now it's going and it's pretty funky and cool

00:07:11 - 00:07:22 | Speaker 3:

y'all were in there the other day yeah no it's epic it's pretty isn't it it's cool this has been like the ongoing thing that we thought would never actually happen yeah yeah it finally did

00:07:22 - 00:08:05 | Speaker 1:

well the thing is like i was so busy the past decade with moving with that company you know building it and and everything that maybe the last year and a half i've really been able to be like full throttle and get everything finished building it scaling it selling it you know yeah exactly the whole shebang yeah are you talking about the building you want to buy it can like anyone go in your speakeasy or like how does that work yeah well the back's a whole nother thing that was like my office i didn't anticipate that to be anything and then people started poking their heads back in there and they were like dude this is like super cool you need to do this or something needs to happen here it's like i really it's just the bathrooms for me and rebecca right in my office upstairs yeah but it's super funky it's cool you know i mean it's super you have like a code word

00:08:05 - 00:08:45 | Speaker 4:

to get in funky like if i came in your store and i don't know you like does um not he said if you wink at him he'll he'll take you it's like a password situation okay no it's really cool honestly it's cool because like i feel like you really get to see someone's personality through like a space like and how they express themselves me and rebecca you're seeing like yeah you see your house and stuff and you know but seeing that like i saw you walk in you feel like you're on the movie set no it is yeah your dad you said your dad's gonna love it he loves the bathroom's super cool i was using it the other day and i was just staring at all the That was for you, kind of, the ducks. Yeah, it's every square inch. Number one or two. Yeah.

00:08:45 - 00:09:27 | Speaker 1:

Number two definitely has a better view, for sure. It does, it does. It's kind of PG-ing out, I guess, a little bit. But as for the back, I mean, yeah, I mean, I didn't really have a business plan for it, I guess. It's just more cool space. Exactly. Like a creative space. But now it's turned into something completely different. So now, yes, I'm working on, I've made the menu for it. Oh, you're going to do a restaurant? Yeah, it's a mocktail. No food yet. I don't want to deal with that. So you got your liquor license to make mocktails? No, mocktails and cocktails. Oh, okay. Which, honestly, I didn't have to do that, but a few people, including my father, they're like, it'd be smarter if you did that. Sure. So I did that.

00:09:27 - 00:09:37 | Speaker 4:

Is that a hard process? I mean, I don't know. I have no clue. Just make the same drinks. You have to, like, $500 a year. I think he needs to get the liquor license. I don't know about liquor license.

00:09:37 - 00:09:40 | Speaker 1:

It's like $500 a year, and you have to keep up with it every-

00:09:40 - 00:09:42 | Speaker 4:

You have to go to where you get your business license for a store?

00:09:43 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 1:

No, they have to say yes or no in your parish, and then you go to the state, and then you pay the $500, and then you just keep up with it every day. Yeah, you have to pay for it every year. But then everybody that works there, which I just had a meeting with a couple people that are going to work for me, or work with me. I hate saying working for me. They are.

00:10:00 - 00:10:20 | Speaker 4:

We have to all get – I don't like that, dude. I'm not like a boss type. More like a – He submissive. It's more like a leader, not a boss. Is that a partnership? Co-worker and colleague type. Yeah, colleague, leader kind of person. Submissive, man. But the thing is that you all have to have some kind of like thing like a –

00:10:20 - 00:10:22 | Speaker 3:

Trained? You have to be trained or something? Yeah, yeah, exactly.

00:10:22 - 00:10:26 | Speaker 4:

It's like whatever it's called, the L. You have to go through a train to get certified or something. Exactly, yeah, yeah.

00:10:26 - 00:10:27 | Speaker 3:

I figured, I mean.

00:10:27 - 00:10:28 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, and that's it.

00:10:29 - 00:10:29 | Speaker 3:

That's cool.

00:10:30 - 00:10:44 | Speaker 4:

Yeah. And it'll be open maybe in the fall. I hope so. Yeah. We're finishing. Actually, I was up there. I kind of look like a hobo right now, which I usually do all the time. Yeah. But I was up there working this morning. We're getting the alleyway finished and that'll be the entrance. Yeah, that's cool. Oh, sick.

00:10:44 - 00:10:48 | Speaker 3:

Y'all's hours are what? Friday, Saturday, 10 to 6?

00:10:48 - 00:11:04 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, Rebecca's. No, 12 to 6. Yeah. The summer hours for the store, Rebecca's store, our store, are Thursday, Friday, and Saturdays, 12 to 6. Okay. They'll change in the fall, you know, it'll be a full week, you know. Yeah. And then for, I won't really say anything about the speakeasy because it's not ready yet.

00:11:04 - 00:11:15 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, that's cool. But look, if you're in town. You're going to speakeasy about the speakeasy. Yeah, for sure. But if you're in town, go see their store. It's on Desire Street, Thursday to Saturday, 12 to 6, right? Yeah. That's cool.

00:11:17 - 00:12:45 | Speaker 1:

00:12:45 - 00:12:53 | Speaker 2:

christian what you got oh wait i got wait jacob let's go back to you talk about your store

00:12:53 - 00:13:02 | Speaker 3:

what yeah what about your yeah your store yeah how long have you had it now i guess uh was it

00:13:02 - 00:13:24 | Speaker 2:

july a year and two months that's what you just did a year what have you like it's cool seeing how it hasn't changed i mean that much but seeing just kind of how you've added new stuff like over the past like months too yeah what do you feel like you've like learned over this like past year like starting it now you're a year into it i'd say like the biggest thing i've learned is uh

00:13:24 - 00:15:00 | Speaker 3:

like really running the staff like having a staff of people because like now which i don't know if people know this but i started working at duck commander like three months ago so now it's like really hands off on like the day-to-day employee stuff so like learning how to you know give a plan and have other people execute it without not being there and like delegating the options and then working when no one's there so like getting all the stuff to price and put in the store and like figuring out you know what's selling best and like going down that route because like online is totally different than uh in the store so you have like a whole different clientele like people if you depend on where you're at in store like people could have a way broader you know view of vintage like a lot more outlets a lot more genres of things or they could have more narrow and so i've just like learned like price points that sell better in store like what's selling better is it more t-shirts is it pants is it hats is it jackets seasonal and then like also uh like same thing decorating your space and like create like the feel that you want in a store which is super fun because i like having a store obviously if money doesn't like if it's profitable it makes sense to have a store great if it doesn't it doesn't but since it has been you know successful in a sense it's fun to just express myself in that way and like create a store with like my kind of style because I would say like if you go in Rebecca's store it's really cool and it's awesome but I wouldn't say necessarily like that's my style at all but it's cool to like get to express in that way and like make people feel a certain way coming in your store and like having a style that people can either like or appreciate one.

00:15:00 - 00:15:30 | Speaker 1:

Or just like see your creativity through your brain kind of situation. Would you say John Reed's outfit right now is vintage? No, but it's John Reed. It's Mr. Bean. John Reed's outfit is John Reed to me. I feel comfortable when I see him. That's what he wears. It's not like crazy. I dressed up for you all today. I feel like you've really leaned into like homelessness. This is the only way I can say this. No, no. No, no. I feel like lately, I can tell you all about it. He's just embraced it. That was so quick.

00:15:30 - 00:15:31 | Speaker 3:

Homeless.

00:15:31 - 00:15:42 | Speaker 1:

I do look homeless most of the time. I feel like you really leaned into like, this is going to sound weird, but like self-manipulating your shirts recently into like cutting them all the same, like how you like them.

00:15:42 - 00:15:56 | Speaker 3:

It's freaking 100 degrees outside. Yeah. It's liberating not having your armpits and everything covered in stuff, honestly. You'll wear that in the winter. With a jacket over it. Yeah. I get hot easy, man. Don't you? Yeah, aren't you hot-headed?

00:15:57 - 00:15:57 | Unknown:

Yeah.

00:15:57 - 00:16:04 | Speaker 3:

i'm hot blooded like i run hot like i'm hot all the time i feel like yeah yeah that's the opposite

00:16:04 - 00:16:17 | Speaker 1:

of me well you're wearing it meanwhile it's freezing in here yeah john lee that's a person having kids you just have blankets in your car this is no this is my office blanket just for

00:16:17 - 00:16:57 | Speaker 2:

these podcasts just so cold in here and when i'm sitting in my office i've got my blanket yeah it's hand knitted no but john reid that's what that's what i think is really cool uh and the compliment jacob's giving you right now in how that how you really customize like your stuff and your space that's what i'm saying that's not something like i do as much which i think is cool and it's cool seeing both of y'all's stores and buildings and places on the same street because it is like such a expression of yourselves and your interests and like what you're selling and your clients and like all the things which is so different but it's it's in the same literally you

00:16:57 - 00:18:05 | Speaker 3:

know yeah yeah if you walk in the store you would definitely know it was john reeds well the cool thing is like a little history too i did it for people in new york for a decade and now i'm doing it for myself so whenever i would go start these things like these little bars or these like restaurants and stuff but we'd go in and it's like trend setting is what it is at that point um teens or 20s i don't have any money so you're going with these people with a lot of money that have maybe a vision but they don't and they get people that are younger like a group of got people to make it look cool so you'll set the trend as they say but they're the money people sure so later on you know fast forward two decades later it's always in the back of my head i was like dude i want to do something cool like i used to do for people you know you get to the point you're like i'm the money guy yeah yeah now i got i don't know about that but uh but but i do have still the thought of it and i was like man i just want to make it cool so i made it cool my office right and then people started coming in and they're like dude can you please open this so that's i didn't want to make a business plan so there's no business plan but it'll

00:18:05 - 00:18:23 | Speaker 1:

eventually be a business plan it's kind of like this is like a work of love and then it kind of turned into like golds and i'm saying like you did it for yourself and then you made it for yourself no matter if someone appreciated it or not and people saw it and it's cool like they have appreciation in the same that they want to work with you you know but you know the podcast how

00:18:23 - 00:18:47 | Speaker 3:

i built this i would love to try to be on how i built this i could i could do one it's a 10 year time lapse and just well that um the back office though took me two and a half years jeez yeah two and a half years but i mean again i'm constantly doing other things and that's what i had that's why you know if i don't that's all i had i could make it happen you know in a six

00:18:47 - 00:19:15 | Speaker 1:

months and to cut back to this real quick just so i can uh finish my thought for this like john reed saying that he cuts his shirts like his shirt it fits him and it's cool but like i could never like i would never do that i couldn't wear it like i don't think i could pull that off you know i'm saying i couldn't like you cut your collars like i like how you cut your collars short like that i don't like stuff yeah but like you still have the lining i see in there to keep it sturdy so it won't fray yeah exactly but like it i like it it's cool if i showed up in a tank

00:19:15 - 00:19:23 | Speaker 3:

top what would you say i would flame you if you do it has to be like a gold's gym like like a

00:19:23 - 00:19:28 | Speaker 1:

i almost started this podcast a muscle flame yeah you gotta wear a muscle if i wear muscle

00:19:28 - 00:19:33 | Speaker 3:

you would flame me all right look no i wouldn't i'd be like dude that's freaking awesome 1970s

00:19:33 - 00:19:59 | Speaker 1:

I politely asked Will and John Reed, you know, what's going on. You know, we kind of talked a little bit about John Luke. We'll get to him. Y'all know what he's doing somewhat. But I was going to ask you, so give us a walkthrough of this frosted tips haircut you were trying to get and, you know, what happened there. Well, so. Christian, you just got your haircut went. Two days ago from when we were recording this. So I chat GP.

00:20:00 - 00:20:14 | Speaker 3:

a picture of myself this is very compared it to thor odinson i wish we could throw it on the screen his chat gvt of this he showed me yesterday well i guess we probably could i no sir i took a

00:20:14 - 00:20:25 | Speaker 2:

why did you do this so here's what happened all right break it down that's what i want to know the truth i want to know i had a picture of my long hair i took a selfie when i have my long

00:20:25 - 00:20:30 | Speaker 3:

hair with my beard and then i posted personal or for someone else no like just i took a selfie at

00:20:30 - 00:20:58 | Speaker 2:

the beach all right and then i found a picture of myself when i had short hair like four years ago okay so i said i went to chat gbt and i said put like like put the short haircut on the guy with the beard and it made the image and it somehow through chat gbt like it like bleached my hair It made it way more blonde. Can you please show me a picture of that? Yeah, I will. I'll pull it up.

00:20:58 - 00:21:00 | Speaker 3:

Send it in our group message.

00:21:01 - 00:21:06 | Speaker 2:

00:21:06 - 00:21:07 | Speaker 3:

John Reed doesn't have a phone.

00:21:08 - 00:21:52 | Speaker 2:

I just meant... My phone is on hand. No, I know Bobby. I was like, this would... Hold on. John Reed didn't finish... It wasn't a burn to Bobby. It was more so... No, it was a burn to me. yeah that's what i'm saying that's why he didn't get his building done in 10 years he didn't have a here let me show you my phone so this this i i literally just copy and pasted this image so i like that you put so much effort into this no it was literally no effort i was like i posted two pictures to chat gpt and i made this i don't even have chat i don't even know what it is you know what chat gpt is he forgot it's ai the title the title of this podcast is john reed rebecca's

Long story short, I just wanted to cut it short, and I bleached it. Well, not bleached. I put sun bum stuff in it on our last beach trip. Sun bum? Sun bum. And it turned my hair orange.

00:22:30 - 00:22:36 | Speaker 3:

Oh, dude. So I was needing to dye it anyway. You ever seen a kid that shopped at Hot Topic at 12? That's what Christian's hair looked like.

00:24:37 - 00:24:43 | Speaker 2:

Are these mirror pics, or what are you talking about here? No, I'll show it to John Liu.

00:24:43 - 00:24:48 | Speaker 3:

Can you type in your camera roll right now and look up selfies? I want to see how many units you have of that.

00:24:48 - 00:25:10 | Speaker 2:

It fills up half the phone. Post haircut, I have a lot of selfies. Yes. He spent his entire afternoon. afternoon yeah he spends $2.99 a month for more storage on apple just for selfies that's like 23 gigabytes of just selfies yeah he has a reference photos for his haircut he bought a terabyte storage just for selfies

00:25:10 - 00:25:45 | Speaker 1:

normal thing thank you john luke but no uh man parenting um been podcasting a lot um me and john luke are on ashamed on fridays i've been on whoa that's good sadie's podcast a lot um i just finished writing a devotional uh about the life of david sick um so i'm trying to get that published right now and then uh i've been doing a couple speaking events in different places so have you done them or you're about i did i've done two the last two months and then i'm flying to uh montana in a couple weeks to do another one what you've been talking about

00:25:45 - 00:25:50 | Speaker 2:

is this like a panel or you're like straight up speaking so straight speaking solo dude i need to

00:25:50 - 00:25:56 | Speaker 1:

see this i haven't seen this i spoke at a youth thing in rustin a couple weeks ago or about like

00:25:56 - 00:26:02 | Speaker 2:

a month ago um you spoke at camp chioka oh yeah that's what i was saying i spoke about david then

00:26:02 - 00:26:17 | Speaker 1:

and then i spoke about um ephesians um ephesians 2 uh at camp chioka and then i'm going to talk about uh david again in montana after his camp chioka speech we had kids fought two kids got

00:26:17 - 00:26:30 | Speaker 2:

baptized one kid passed out in the spirit and really it was actually dehydration but oh he it was good i mean i was like okay this is fired up two kids did get baptized after that's awesome

00:26:30 - 00:26:39 | Speaker 1:

like he got baptized after there's a whole prayer circles and i had a hospital visit yeah and there was a lot of weeping i was i was it it was you really brought me the holy spirit was working

00:26:39 - 00:27:01 | Speaker 2:

through you it was awesome it was a really like at campfire it was like late late that's cool Did you teach them about selfies? About selfies. Did you show them your knife collaboration? That's what I was about to say. And you got your knife collaboration. Thank you so much. You're welcome. You're welcome. And I just had a knife collaboration come out with a company. Don't ask him. He won't get you one. I wanted one. Do you have it on you right now?

00:27:01 - 00:27:03 | Speaker 1:

No, I don't have it on me right now. Dude, you should have brought it.

00:27:04 - 00:27:30 | Speaker 2:

I wanted to see it. I asked him, too, if I could have one. I'm sorry. I'm working on getting a... You said he wouldn't help me out. Hey, who's this company? Hey. I'm working on getting a discount. Dawson, please help us poor brother-in-laws. Who is it? What company is it? It's called Dawson Knives. The knife is sick. Have you not seen anything about it? It's a sick-looking knife. He's not on his phone. He doesn't own a phone. He has a Motorola Razr still.

00:27:31 - 00:27:35 | Speaker 1:

But I feel like there's a lot of little things like that that I'm doing that I can't think about.

00:27:35 - 00:27:45 | Speaker 2:

That's fine. But the knife came out. The knife thing, yeah. You know what you should do if you're speaking on King David? You should incorporate your knife. not just it'd be cool if you like pull it out your knife you know have you seen the website

00:27:45 - 00:28:04 | Speaker 1:

it's all the knife this is my knife well the whole website is like the whole the whole line is about king david so the knife is called the son of jesse yeah that's what i was saying that's all about david's life yeah that's um yeah it's all about to the the the sorry what are you burping

00:28:04 - 00:28:07 | Speaker 2:

or farting he's burping he's burping right in his face

00:28:07 - 00:28:25 | Speaker 1:

no so so the knife was I wanted to do something to kind of honor King David and how much impact his life had on me the last year and then I wanted to do something tying in Honey's name to it so one of the handles it's called Sandstone and it has more of like a honey looking color to it

00:28:25 - 00:28:25 | Speaker 2:

oh that's cool

00:28:25 - 00:28:27 | Speaker 1:

that's sweet paying tribute to Honey too

00:28:27 - 00:28:40 | Speaker 2:

so have you talked about that on the other podcast no I haven't about the impact of King David on uh sort of kinda i um give us the short of the short of the long the short of the long is um

00:28:40 - 00:29:02 | Speaker 1:

i think there's something about david's life for me that that saw how david handled suffering and i think there's something about david's life to where he's the only king that that god ever chose um and yet he suffered more than almost anyone in the bible and you're talking about

00:29:02 - 00:29:04 | Speaker 2:

I'm just breaking this down.

00:29:04 - 00:29:09 | Speaker 1:

Well, just his whole life. I mean, his father-in-law tried to kill him for 13 years as he's running in the wilderness.

00:29:09 - 00:29:13 | Speaker 2:

But didn't God, I guess Samuel, but God chose Saul, right?

00:29:13 - 00:30:00 | Speaker 1:

Yes, but then they also cast lots. But God obviously told Samuel, I've found another. And just the idea about David being a man after God's own heart. Right. Then if you look at the New Testament, when Paul's writing, He's, you know, God says, here's, here's David who will do, you know, all that I ask of him. And at that time of his life, David's a teenager in the wilderness, you know, shepherding sheep. And, um, I think there's something about David's life. And there's also through the TV show, the house of David, I think that created something of, I've never had someone in the Bible that I've, I've thought, I've thought about more like theoretically than david like the idea of david getting

00:30:00 - 00:31:52 | Speaker 2:

up in the morning and bringing bread and cheese to his brothers on the battlefield. And the idea of as he's leaving his house to go bring cheese to his brothers, he's going to go fight a giant and become the most famous person in Israel in one moment in time. But then he can't relate to anybody about what he's going through because he's anointed king. But yet he's the most famous person as a teenager. So there's so much complexity to his life, and then he's playing music for Saul in the temple, and Saul's probably venting to him about Samuel anointing someone else. And then Saul tries to kill him, but then David's still faithful to God, and he doesn't kill Saul when he has multiple opportunities to. So I think there's so much complexity to his life that I'm still trying to kind of unpack of how his whole character arc to me is just so fascinating. But something about the way he handled suffering, and then if you read the psalms and just the fearlessness he had i think it's something that i've wanted to cling to this last year of going through a lot of traumatic things with my family it's like how did david handle the suffering and how i mean in psalms three he says you know though ten thousand surround me i won't be afraid and just that idea of he was such a warrior that he was so poet and and musical you know musical so he had such a sensitivity to him but he also would go kill 200 philistines and take their foreskins for Saul so like he's such a like it's just so it's so complex to me but just that idea about his how fearless he was and in certain situations to me is it's what's what really stood out yeah but the beginning of his life about moving stepping into fame being faithful about what God's called him to do not taking matters into his own hands having discernment but also like just how fearless he was because wasn't David born like

00:31:52 - 00:31:57 | Speaker 3:

all of his brothers they didn't have the same mom like yeah people people debate that yeah okay i

00:31:57 - 00:32:02 | Speaker 2:

think that's i think that's part of his story about why that happened another thing i wanted

00:32:02 - 00:32:48 | Speaker 3:

to say based off of that that's great that i had an impact on you like that um is that we went to the k-love wars sadie you know uh did the host of that the thing i watched the king of david did y'all watch that tv show have y'all watched it at all have you watched it i haven't watched it at all Oh, it's House of David. Have you watched it at all? I've only seen the first season. Okay, so it's good. I've heard that it's really good. It's not. No, no, no. It's live action. It's kind of like the same Chosen vibe. Yeah, yeah. It's from the same people. I say it to say, I guess y'all haven't seen it, but if you have seen it, David in the TV show, I binge watched it in like four days, but he sings in the deal and it's like, it's fire. It's so good. And I was like, I asked Bella. He did a little bit.

00:32:48 - 00:32:53 | Speaker 2:

no he does do the actor the actor did a little bit like on like caleb knight that's what i'm

00:32:53 - 00:33:04 | Speaker 3:

saying he's saying at caleb and i was like dude he's he's got it like it's really him and i thought that was super cool so it's like very beautiful music that's why the show is so cool because it

00:33:04 - 00:33:29 | Speaker 2:

like the it'll it'll be david in battle like defeating all these people and then the scene transitions to like him on top of the temple like worshiping yeah and like people in the city are like listening to him worship he's like playing a little harp it's just so it's just this that's what i'm saying that's just the complexity of like how he's so fearless in battle can do all these things but then he's also so emotionally emotionally so it's just so fascinating

00:33:29 - 00:34:38 | Speaker 1:

we were headed back home from tennessee the other day and you know you're driving you look in front of you see them clouds and it's like that don't look good well then your phone start going back back back like severe thunderstorm tornado all that and i'm having to drive right through it with my kids and it's it's at that point where i'm like man i hope my life insurance is paid up because everybody knows life insurance isn't exactly a fun conversation but it's one that you gotta have and ethos makes that part easy ethos makes getting life insurance fast and easy because it's 100 online you can get a quote in seconds apply in minutes and get same day coverage and there's no medical exam. Well, you got to watch it. You got to watch it. You would like it. It's just like, I know. I watched the cartoon. Isn't there a cartoon? Yeah, they made a movie. Yeah, the David movie.

00:34:50 - 00:34:50 | Speaker 3:

Yeah.

00:34:50 - 00:34:52 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, I watched it. But the TV show.

00:34:52 - 00:34:54 | Speaker 3:

The TV show is really good. It's cool.

00:34:55 - 00:34:56 | Speaker 2:

Like Passion of Christ though?

00:34:56 - 00:34:58 | Speaker 3:

No, like The Chosen. Have you seen that either?

00:35:00 - 00:35:03 | Speaker 4:

It's just a more modern – it's like a modern – not a modern take.

00:35:03 - 00:35:08 | Speaker 5:

I'm saying it's like a brutal, like Passion of Christ-style type movie. It gets – midway, it gets brutal.

00:35:08 - 00:35:26 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, it gets brutal, but, like, I'm just – I'm kind of trying to relate it to something. Not like Mel Gibson type. No, it's like The Chosen, if you haven't – Yeah, if you haven't seen The Chosen. All I'm saying is modern film, so, like, it's very high-quality shot, and it's, like – it just gives you, like, a first-person point of view of, like, what it was like back then. You know, I just, like – you can, like, see yourself there.

00:35:26 - 00:35:29 | Speaker 5:

It's like the Bible, but shot like The Revenant, the movie, like that.

00:35:30 - 00:35:33 | Speaker 4:

I mean, what are these movie references? Other than Passion of the Christ, what are we talking about here?

00:35:33 - 00:35:37 | Speaker 2:

I'm just – Maybe like Hacksaw Ridge. I mean, it's like – You're saying like the way –

00:35:37 - 00:35:48 | Speaker 5:

I'm talking about the visual. I'm being artistic right now. So the visual of the movie is like, you know how the Revenant is like kind of dark and like the way it's shot is shot like that. Well, it is dark. But the Bible –

00:35:48 - 00:35:50 | Speaker 3:

Well, it's like a – I mean like a period piece.

00:35:51 - 00:35:51 | Speaker 4:

Yeah.

00:35:51 - 00:35:51 | Speaker 3:

Yeah.

00:35:52 - 00:35:53 | Speaker 5:

But I'm just saying like the film.

00:35:53 - 00:35:58 | Speaker 4:

It's like a high-quality shot. It looks like they're in, you know, Israel, all the different types of places.

00:35:58 - 00:36:04 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, they film it in Greece. It's super cool. But the show does not shy away from some of the demonic stuff.

00:36:06 - 00:36:07 | Speaker 4:

What's the king?

00:36:07 - 00:36:34 | Speaker 2:

The king that Saul did not slay, which is why he ended up getting the kingdom removed from him. They like hardcore. It's like a tough scene to watch. They don't shy away from how tormenting the spirit was that Saul had after he was disobedient. But it's insane. Even if you weren't religious of any sort, I think you could really think it was a really good... Yeah, King David's like...

00:36:34 - 00:36:43 | Speaker 1:

People would do the same thing with The Chosen, too. People who aren't Christians or any part of any religion would say this is a... It's intriguing. It's a great show. It's great.

00:36:43 - 00:36:52 | Speaker 2:

Who would you guess the five most famous people to ever live are? Like names. Jesus. Alexander the Great. No.

00:36:52 - 00:36:56 | Speaker 4:

Genghis Khan. What? King Caesar. What? Genghis Khan.

00:36:56 - 00:37:03 | Speaker 2:

So it's Jesus, Muhammad, and then it's Buddha, Moses, and King David. Okay.

00:37:04 - 00:37:05 | Speaker 4:

Oh, that's crazy. Is that a fact?

00:37:05 - 00:37:09 | Speaker 2:

I thought Genghis Khan would have been more popular than Buddha. If you look it up. That's crazy. Yeah.

00:37:09 - 00:37:11 | Speaker 4:

Well, long way.

00:37:11 - 00:37:34 | Speaker 2:

He's like seven. Because then Genghis, it's like Genghis Khan. Genghis Khan's in there somewhere. That's crazy. They're all top 10. How about that? Top 10. Yeah, there you go. But that's the thing about King David. but it's like the Goliath moment for his life is what made him, I mean, obviously, I don't know if, would you think Keen Day would be as famous as he was, as he is today if he didn't kill Goliath?

00:37:35 - 00:37:37 | Speaker 3:

No. You think that's the thing? No, that's like the central,

00:37:38 - 00:37:40 | Speaker 2:

I mean, that's like his big story.

00:37:40 - 00:37:42 | Speaker 4:

Yeah. That's why he's the turning point of his whole life.

00:37:42 - 00:37:51 | Speaker 2:

That's what's so fascinating. It's like, here's this teenager bringing his brother's cheese and bread. He killed a giant. No one wants to fight him. No one wants to fight him.

00:37:51 - 00:37:52 | Speaker 4:

They're turning away.

00:37:52 - 00:38:08 | Speaker 2:

40 days and 40 nights, they're all terrified. He shows up, and there's a verse in 1 Samuel 17 that says, and David heard him. I just think that's so cool. It's like the Israelites heard the same. How old is he there too? They say people debate like 17. Like 17.

00:38:08 - 00:38:15 | Speaker 5:

These are all like other people are like warriors that have killed people. Do y'all watch? There's a dude on Instagram. I'm on Instagram.

00:38:15 - 00:38:16 | Speaker 2:

Uh-oh.

00:38:16 - 00:38:19 | Speaker 5:

He does the- This is for his PC time. Do you watch that, dude?

00:38:19 - 00:38:20 | Speaker 2:

I've seen, yeah.

00:38:20 - 00:38:34 | Speaker 5:

Dude. The slingshot's crazy. The sling guy. And that's what David killed the giant was. So it's like, you can't fathom that, but whenever you see somebody actually do it in real time, how accurate they are, that dude can hit somebody's head off their shoulders at like 50 or 60 yards. It's crazy.

00:38:35 - 00:39:03 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, well, that's the thing too. It's like God was preparing David in the wilderness to face Goliath. Because it's like, if David would have neglected the time in the wilderness with the sheep, he would have never been able to face Goliath when he got there so i think that's the whole lesson is like what what is god teaching you in the private moments that when he does elevate you like what can you step into because if you if you're just looking for a platform but yet you're not cultivating the private moments then you're not going to be ready for any sort of elevation which is why i think david's so cool

00:39:03 - 00:39:07 | Speaker 5:

what's cool you know i mean you know how much like uh he was practicing so much out there

00:39:07 - 00:39:20 | Speaker 4:

i bet you well it's just like protecting the sheep you just think about that and like being by yourself in the wilderness it's just him and the sheep no telling what's out there so it's like those are small moments like your whole life was something you know he also killed he killed a

00:39:20 - 00:39:29 | Speaker 3:

lion and a bear yeah with his bare hands uncle side did tell me the other day that he doesn't need the sling he can throw a rock this is the most crack three miles heard three miles three

00:39:29 - 00:39:35 | Speaker 5:

miles he's taking throw a rock three miles that sounds like uncle rico on uh what's that movie

00:39:35 - 00:39:45 | Speaker 4:

i don't know if that takes ever been there but si is our uncle rico he's not our king david he's

00:39:45 - 00:39:51 | Speaker 3:

He's our Uncle Rico. He thinks he's King David. He's actually Uncle Rico.

00:39:51 - 00:40:00 | Speaker 4:

He's Uncle Rico with King David mindset. I can throw this rock three miles. Oh, yeah. I think he...

00:40:00 - 00:40:07 | Speaker 2:

base is three miles. I think he did refer it to King David throwing a rock through the glass forehead. It's like, well, if he can do that, I mean, I can throw it three miles.

00:40:08 - 00:40:11 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, but he also still believes that there's like cheetahs in America, don't they, or something like that?

00:40:12 - 00:40:17 | Speaker 2:

It changes day to day. Isn't that an ongoing thing? He believes there's cheetahs in America.

00:40:17 - 00:40:22 | Speaker 3:

Black Panther. There might be Black Panthers. You believe that.

00:40:23 - 00:40:26 | Speaker 2:

I forgot John Reed is junior Uncle Rico.

00:40:27 - 00:40:33 | Speaker 3:

He's RJ, Rico Jr. Rico Jr. they call me instead of John J.R.

00:40:33 - 00:40:34 | Speaker 1:

he's RJ I don't know

00:40:34 - 00:40:35 | Speaker 3:

I'm like Black Panther

00:40:35 - 00:40:42 | Speaker 1:

that is it well yeah who would be who in the dog call room right now that's it you're at Si you're at Si I'm sitting in his chair right now

00:40:42 - 00:41:15 | Speaker 2:

I feel like Bobby would kill it on a computer like with references you are you're John David I'm saying I'm not meaning it like you're I just feel like you would be good on a computer and like have a bunch of fun facts and like keeping up with everything I feel like you would have like all the references I should have like trends and cultural I can see you right here right now. You'd be a good computer. There's not a Christian on the Duck Call podcast, so I just think he's like, you know. Are you Martin? Are you? I don't know. I'm not saying that, but I'm saying I just think you're no challenge. You're Godwin. I'm just like, yeah, sure.

00:41:16 - 00:41:23 | Speaker 1:

And I don't think there's a John Leakey. No, I don't either. Maybe you're Stone. I'm the guest. Yeah, I'm Stone. Stone is crazy.

00:41:23 - 00:41:28 | Speaker 3:

Stone would not be wearing a. Stone would be wearing

00:41:28 - 00:41:30 | Speaker 1:

a hand in his blanket.

00:41:30 - 00:41:44 | Speaker 2:

If we're saying it like that, I would say Godwin and Stone would be felt disrespected about their references in the duck call room. I think John David would like Will. Cy would be like, heck yeah, brother.

00:41:44 - 00:41:47 | Speaker 3:

I need his thing, his headphone.

00:41:47 - 00:41:55 | Speaker 2:

John Luke, you've been at camp all summer. Any fun stories of that? I know that's what's been taking up most of your life. You're twins and your five kids.

00:41:55 - 00:42:01 | Speaker 1:

anything you can share i've caught well i'll say i've caught a lot of animals this summer

00:42:01 - 00:42:08 | Speaker 2:

are you being bit by a snake i got bit by a snake i caught well i caught you called a little fawn

00:42:08 - 00:42:31 | Speaker 1:

i caught a fawn yeah a couple days ago that was actually my yard that was cool it was following the the mama deer and the deer jumped the fence and it couldn't jump over the fence so it's like running around the yard and chasing it and i tried to catch it last week and i couldn't catch it and This week, I caught it. That's cool. It was, like, bucking and kicking me, and now I just yeeted it over the fence.

00:42:31 - 00:42:36 | Speaker 2:

You should have put a little collar on it, like a bale, so you know, like, when that deer grows up.

00:42:36 - 00:42:42 | Speaker 1:

The mama was, like, sitting on the other side of the fence, so it just, like, ran to it. So it might come back. If I catch it again, I'll put, like, a...

00:42:42 - 00:42:49 | Speaker 2:

Is that, what is in that fence? Is that, like, a garden? What? What you were in, like a gate, like a fence? That's, like, the fence on the side of my yard.

00:42:50 - 00:42:51 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, like a barbed wire fence.

00:42:51 - 00:42:57 | Speaker 2:

For some reason, I thought it was, like, a garden or something. that's why it got in there like eating something and then it couldn't get out and so you just

00:42:57 - 00:43:20 | Speaker 1:

no like between like the like the woods my yard is like a fence and so but the deer come and jump over the fence every day yeah that's cool yeah that's super cool i caught it yesterday i caught a bird what kind of bird it was like an injured baby bird you know i put it on my shoulder and it rode around my shoulder did you regurgitate its food so it could yeah i chewed up some worms for it and spit it into his mouth hey that's what i'm talking about and then once it got

00:43:20 - 00:43:32 | Speaker 2:

the strength back i put an entry in it oh hey i figured it out john leeks not someone on the duck call room podcast john leeks are steve erwin yes yes i was thinking like uh ace ventura or

00:43:32 - 00:43:43 | Speaker 3:

something ace ventura i was thinking more ace ventura would you want to be steve erwin but you're really i want to be steve erwin but i'm actually yeah that's funny

00:43:43 - 00:43:51 | Speaker 2:

camp's been good have you didn't y'all have some camp counselors like pass out or something we had

00:43:51 - 00:43:51 | Speaker 1:

the night I spoke

00:43:51 - 00:43:54 | Speaker 2:

yeah the dehydration was that a camp counselor no we did

00:43:54 - 00:43:59 | Speaker 1:

we had another camp counselor who did also pass out from dehydration oh shoot yeah

00:43:59 - 00:44:02 | Speaker 2:

so if you're wondering how hot it is it's hot it's hot

00:44:02 - 00:44:14 | Speaker 3:

it is it's crucial they need more cut off sleeves like John Reed yeah I'm telling you let them armpits breathe I just remember growing up at camp like it like being hydrated is like the number one thing

00:44:14 - 00:44:19 | Speaker 1:

you have to do like you have to be hydrated the heat index the other day was like 107 that's insane

00:44:20 - 00:44:43 | Speaker 2:

I mean, you just walk outside, you got to get in the shower. You need, like, liquid IV packets, like, on deck. Yeah, no, we do. It is depressing. I literally walk outside. Everyone's just walking around with IVs or something. I just walk outside. I'm like, man, I'm going to have to take a shower. Can't wait till fall. As soon as I walk outside. Yeah, it's like, yeah, it's every day. But it's so far away, I feel like, to be even, like, thinking about being cold, really.

00:44:43 - 00:44:46 | Speaker 3:

Not too far. It goes quick. If we get lucky. Everything goes quick.

00:44:46 - 00:44:47 | Speaker 2:

If we get lucky.

00:44:47 - 00:44:57 | Speaker 3:

Do y'all prefer summer or winter? I prefer fall, winter, and spring No summer I gave you two options Would you rather be hot or cold?

00:44:58 - 00:44:59 | Speaker 1:

You would? I'd rather be hot

00:45:00 - 00:45:18 | Speaker 4:

that's what i'm saying that's why i have a blanket right now i'm just i i feel like i just am like a lizard i just adjust to the temperature outside like a lizard it's got right after this i'm gonna walk like i'm gonna walk outside i'm gonna like heat up in the sun i'm gonna like sun bask on the concrete and i'll be right next to you and i'll come in

00:45:18 - 00:45:21 | Speaker 6:

yeah it's like i would rather i would rather take my clothes cold

00:45:21 - 00:45:28 | Speaker 5:

john will be right beside you getting in the nude yeah he was saying essentially yeah so

00:45:28 - 00:45:36 | Speaker 7:

wintertime what uh yeah wintertime yeah and it's hunting season i am ready for hunting can't kill

00:45:36 - 00:46:19 | Speaker 1:

anything during summertime i ain't sitting on the couch all the time i got energy oh i don't know where it's come from i don't have to take all my medicine no more i'm off my sugar medicine staying level i ain't got to do that lost all this weight phd because most weight loss plans have one thing in common. They quit working eventually. And when that happens, usually the weight comes right back. But with PhD weight loss, that's different. I'm 23 weeks into the PhD weight loss program, 40 pounds down and holding. It is so much different than anything else I've ever tried. This is so easy. What worked for you before doesn't always work again

00:46:19 - 00:47:03 | Speaker 2:

because your body fights weight loss every step of the way when it's under stress. GLP-1 drugs can work as a quick fix but they don't always take care of what's causing the problem in the first place y'all so phd weight loss works with you to develop a plan that works with your body and focuses on restoring your metabolism for good so your body stops fighting you the goal isn't to lose weight once it's to never have to start over again right now call phd weight loss and mention college and you'll get two free weeks in the program and they'll pay for your food that's a $1,500 value, completely free. Call 8-6-4-6-4-4-1-9-0-0 and say... Again, that's 8-6-4-6-4-4-1-9-0-0 or visit myphdweightloss.com

00:47:03 - 00:47:10 | Speaker 5:

Y'all have anything planned for hunting season? Anybody?

00:47:10 - 00:47:28 | Speaker 3:

Just waiting for dad to text us. Bobby, Bobby, wait on. He didn't text me to Texas last year. Hey, we all need to go. We didn't go all on a hunt. We didn't go out this year. Because I feel like our guys trip was whenever we went to Texas. That was balling. Whenever we did the whole- Oh, yeah. Oxridge.

00:47:30 - 00:47:35 | Speaker 7:

We'll never be able to outdo that. Yeah, we will. But I think if we want to do a trip this year-

00:47:35 - 00:47:36 | Speaker 5:

It's all about memory and experience.

00:47:37 - 00:47:40 | Speaker 7:

I'm just saying, as a visual, that place is like Africa.

00:47:40 - 00:47:43 | Speaker 5:

I don't think I'll ever shoot a tank again in my life.

00:47:43 - 00:48:00 | Speaker 6:

If we want to go on another brother-in-law hunting trip this year, brother-in-law- Let's go to the land. Brother-in-law hunting trip. Let's go duck hunt. Where should we go? I'm saying who needs to initiate the conversation for it to happen? It's either you or Will. I don't know who you think. Oh, like who is our project? I'm saying we can hunt here, though.

00:48:00 - 00:48:01 | Speaker 5:

Should we hunt here?

00:48:01 - 00:48:02 | Speaker 4:

I'm with you on that.

00:48:02 - 00:48:06 | Speaker 5:

I'm saying we can go somewhere if it makes sense, but we can all just plan a day and go here, too.

00:48:06 - 00:48:25 | Speaker 4:

Wait, let's put that. We had fun. Us three had fun. Wait, let's have some audience interaction here. We're podcasters. Yeah. Put in the comments, where should we go on our brother's hunting trip? And who should ask to go there? And who should set it up? Yeah. Who do you think – also, who do you think is the most responsible? Put it in the comments.

00:48:25 - 00:48:38 | Speaker 5:

More like, who is the most tapped in? Who's the most locked in? I just mean, like, it's kind of hard if you don't know anywhere. Like, maybe we're going public land or we're going private land. I had fun in Oklahoma this past year when you were there.

00:48:38 - 00:48:46 | Speaker 6:

I just mean, like, if we all were in a group chat, like, if someone started a group message and it was like – and Will was like, hey, Dad, we need to go in a group chat.

00:48:46 - 00:48:53 | Speaker 5:

Oh, so we're saying we're affiliating this with Willie. I'm talking about without Willie. If he wants to go, that's great.

00:48:53 - 00:48:58 | Speaker 6:

Well, I'm saying we've done it like seven years of all of us going on a hunt, but last year was the first time we didn't.

00:48:59 - 00:49:16 | Speaker 5:

Everybody's busy, man. I'm thinking like this, though. I think if we plan it. I know we're all busy. I think if we come to it, we get dates, we plan it, and we're like, hey, we can all go this date to this date, and we just plan it, Willie will come. If we just make the plans, he'll be like, I want to go with my sons and son-in-laws.

00:49:17 - 00:49:19 | Speaker 7:

And if he doesn't, then we'll just all go. That's what I'm saying.

00:49:19 - 00:49:22 | Speaker 5:

And if he doesn't, I still want to go. Cool.

00:49:22 - 00:49:25 | Speaker 6:

But most places might be contingent on him coming with us.

00:49:25 - 00:49:34 | Speaker 4:

Okay, wait. We need a – yeah. All right. As we're wrapping up, Will, since you're our designated JD, we need a Bible verse. Yeah.

00:49:35 - 00:49:35 | Speaker 3:

Oh, man.

00:49:36 - 00:49:37 | Speaker 5:

You can use your phone.

00:49:37 - 00:49:38 | Unknown:

Three to five more minutes.

00:49:39 - 00:49:43 | Speaker 5:

Three to five more minutes. All right, wait. Just plan for three to five. Five minutes. Fifty-five, okay.

00:49:43 - 00:49:46 | Speaker 4:

What do y'all talk about for 55 minutes?

00:49:46 - 00:49:48 | Speaker 5:

Craziness. Absurdity. Okay, we need five more minutes.

00:49:49 - 00:49:52 | Speaker 4:

I thought we were understanding where we wrap up.

00:49:52 - 00:49:59 | Speaker 5:

Usually, like, Si has a 20-minute segment on PBS and what he learned. Well, that's just because you have to cut out everything Si says.

00:50:00 - 00:50:01 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, all the crazy stuff.

00:50:03 - 00:50:04 | Speaker 1:

Okay, Will, what's our Bible verse?

00:50:05 - 00:50:06 | Speaker 3:

No, no, he said we got like five more minutes.

00:50:06 - 00:50:08 | Speaker 1:

We could talk about the Bible verse. We could do a long Bible verse.

00:50:08 - 00:50:10 | Speaker 3:

Oh, okay. Yeah, we can come up with that. Do a long one?

00:50:10 - 00:50:13 | Speaker 4:

No, here we go. Hold on. This is the verse of the day.

00:50:14 - 00:50:16 | Speaker 2:

This is off the dome. This is off the dome. He's not reading this.

00:50:17 - 00:50:18 | Speaker 3:

Oh, that's Cap.

00:50:19 - 00:50:20 | Speaker 2:

Oh, no, he is reading it. I am reading it.

00:50:21 - 00:50:22 | Speaker 4:

I have my phone propped up right here.

00:50:22 - 00:50:24 | Speaker 2:

John, who's, I can't see, I can't see.

00:50:25 - 00:50:36 | Speaker 4:

No, this is just the verse of the day, just short and simple and sweet. Turn away from evil and do good. Seek peace and pursue it. That's good. That's it. Simple.

00:50:37 - 00:50:42 | Speaker 3:

But I think that's life in general, if you break it down. John Ray, what do you think of when you hear that verse?

00:50:43 - 00:50:56 | Speaker 4:

Repeat it one more time. Turn away from evil and do good. Seek peace and pursue it. Yeah, I completely agree with it. I don't know what you... True or false, John Ray?

00:50:56 - 00:50:57 | Speaker 3:

You want to get deep in that?

00:50:57 - 00:53:09 | Speaker 2:

I have a thought. I have a thought. this will be a good thing it kind of goes with the verse uh so last night i we have we've got middle schoolers at camp this week so i've got like there's like 85 middle school boys okay there's girls too but i just held all the guys in because they were all being crazy like disruptive messing with each other like not listening like all the stuff and so i gave them a talk and i said okay we're gonna talk about something tonight we're gonna talk about what does it mean to be a man and i said does anyone have any thoughts on it and this kid like just yells out beer and shotguns and i was like one bold of you at a church camp and everyone like started laughing and whatever and someone was like texas trucks and you know they started like yelling all the stuff and i was like okay everyone like take it take a step back i said what everything you're saying is like external outward things yeah in manhood and that has nothing to do with it the single thing that separates a boy from man the thing that you've got to realize right now as 12 year olds and that you need to start developing in your life the thing that's going to carry you all the way through to the end is self-control you can control yourself you can the world will be unlocked for you you'll be above your peers so i talked about that and i was like and it's hard we're all learning it and you can't do it by yourself it's got to take accountability so it's all gonna like you gotta hold each other accountable you gotta be men with each other you gotta uh help each other like control and that starts with two things the first one is controlling your mouth so when i'm talking or someone's up here talking you don't talk and second is controlling your body and we're gonna practice that by when we go to our snacks in just a minute everyone's gonna walk to snacks instead of just run full speed like they normally do and

00:53:09 - 00:54:37 | Speaker 3:

they got it they actually did it you know it's good based off that i literally was listening to a podcast the other day and it's a guy just a financial guy and just like it's just what the podcast about but he's he says he podcast was titled a few short stories and like he said something that's pretty much based off the same thing and so he he brought up two things like euology i think euology virtues and then like resume virtues and like essentially i think what he's saying is like uh resume virtues is like house nice car you know all these different things like you're saying like outward stuff and then like uh uology virtues i want to say i mean you can change it but it's like you know being a good father like um you know same things when you're saying peace patience kindness you know you know your relationship with the lord and like those things and it said a lot of people want uology virtues but put all their effort into resume virtues so like we can say as men like we want all these things but the things like we care about or like we'll talk about is like all the and like all the effort we'll put towards is like what we have like things instead of like internally and i thought that was so true like even from like for myself it's like sometimes like i say i want all these things like you're saying like what it means to me like what it means to be a man self-control i might say that but then it's like i'll actually sometimes feel more rooted in like the things that i have like that's what is going to give you that instead but you know deep down i just thought that was good yeah that's

00:54:37 - 00:54:59 | Speaker 1:

good super good yeah when you're talking about about you know about manhood and masculinity and what makes a man even even like seek peace and pursue it you know i think so much has to be rooted in humility and like you talked about with self-control it's like to achieve self-control whether it's you know mentally spiritually physically like you have to have humility to get there

00:55:00 - 00:55:50 | Speaker 3:

And I think, I think in our culture, especially with masculinity, you men never admit they're wrong, never say they're struggling, never have humility to actually take ownership for things. And I think when you, when you truly, well, when you do surrender your life to Christ, when you do, you know, have the Holy Spirit and dwell within you, you do embody humility and out of humility, you see the self-control, you see, seek peace and pursue it. Because often, I mean, it's saying seek peace and pursue it because there's probably a situation where you need to be the bigger person to actually pursue the peace. There's even a verse where Paul says, as much as it has to do with you, gosh, what's the verse when he's talking about peace?

00:55:51 - 00:55:55 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, as much as it has to do with you, live at peace.

00:55:55 - 00:56:11 | Speaker 3:

with yeah live in peace with with everyone around you uh and just that idea of you achieve that through humility so whether it's seek peace and pursue it living out self-control as a man i think it starts with humility and all of the other things will come into place from there yeah

00:56:11 - 00:56:43 | Speaker 1:

and that's the thing is that in the end of the day like you also have to have god like working your life yeah and that's like that where that humility comes from of like every time you make a mistake mistake not to spiral into that and get worse but say god forgive me forgive yourself apologize those around you and then start over which is which i think what the good news of christ is is that we he allowed he died for our sins so that we can repent and change and god's

00:56:43 - 00:57:42 | Speaker 2:

well is undrivable like we'll all run dry like ourselves willpower like it doesn't last like it doesn't matter how strong you are right how strong you think you are yeah that's good good stuff well guys that was fun good work yeah it's fun i mean hey roast us in the comments you know i know this isn't your normal group so yeah if you like what could our podcast be called uh instead of the duck cover the duck boys the duck boys yeah i don't know something maybe maybe what could our podcast if you would listen to a podcast with all of us let us know we might do it i don't know maybe not this is the plug we'll see if hunter what do you think should we have our own podcast hunter rate us rate us one to ten on our first one five seven eight hey hey and he doesn't actually like us so that's not biased so well that was fun

00:57:45 - 00:58:15 | Unknown:

Thank you.
