I have type 2 diabetes, but I manage it well. It's a little pill with a big story to tell. I take one's daily Jardians at each day's start. And for adults with type 2 diabetes and known heart disease, Jardians can lower the risk of cardiovascular death too. Prescription Jardians, empagliflozin, 10 or 25 milligram tablets, are used to lower blood sugar along with diet and exercise in adults with type 2 diabetes. Jardians is not for use to lower blood sugar in people with type 1 diabetes. and not for people with type 2 diabetes who have severe kidney disease. Serious side effects include increased ketones in blood or urine and infection between and around the anus and genitals. Both may be fatal. Severe allergic reactions, dehydration, urinary tract or genital yeast infections in men and women and low blood sugar. Stop taking and tell your doctor right away if you have nausea, vomiting, stomach pain, tiredness, rash, swelling, trouble breathing or swallowing. Tell your doctor about lightheadedness, weakness, fever, pain, tenderness, redness or swelling between the anus and genitals. You may have increased risk for lower limb loss. call your doctor right away if you have new pain or tenderness, sores, ulcers, or infection in your legs or feet. To learn more about Jardians 10 or 25 milligram tablets, ask your doctor, visit Jardians.com, or call 1-888-968-6648. Honey, ready for school? Do I have to go?

What's up, everybody? Welcome to For Crying Out Loud. Hi. Hi, Stephanie. How you doing? You know, we had kind of like a competition before, like who's feeling less well today. And I feel like you win. I'm going to give it to you. Well, being nauseous is the worst. Yeah. I'm not nauseous though, currently. Okay. Because you were nauseous. I've been like fighting this cold that's gotten, seems to have gotten worse in the last 24 hours. Now you got to get rid of it because you're going to the river. Going to the river. The river or the lake? The river. You're going to the river. Yeah. Next weekend. This weekend. This coming weekend. In a couple of days. Yeah. Yes. Leaving on Thursday morning. Oh. Yeah. Exciting. Road trip. Yeah. Girlfriend Dawn's going to spend the night on Wednesday night. Mm-hmm. kooky dawn uh-huh and then uh getting picked up like early the crack of dawn's ass at like i don't know 6 37 in the morning glenn's picking us up and we're gonna road trip okay so you're not taking a plane no he couldn't get any pilots oh which dawn's happy about it so it's fine i like a road trip glenn is glenn's a good drive very good driver but also like fucks with Dawn a lot because she gets nervous. Like, Oh, don't get too close to the wall. Oh, good. Oh, Dawn, Dawn. Well, I'm getting close to the wall. Oh my God. Okay. I know that Dawn and I don't have a lot in common, but I do feel like we could sit in the back seat and hold hands and go, Oh my God. You know, I can't drive close to the wall. That's my, that's my thing. That's like my kryptonite. Like I have to be in, in a center lane. Yeah. No, like, and then she'll go like, look out for that truck. Like it's a mile and a half. There's a truck crossing and Glenn will be like, Oh, good thing Dawn's here. Tell me that there's a truck. Oh God, what would I have done? You know? And then he like swore, like he, he fucks with her. And I find it very funny. And we have a lot of videos from last year that I videotaped from the backseat of him doing that. And she's just like, don't, well, don't do that. You know? Oh, I can't see Dawn. I'm looking the other way. Keep your eyes on the road. And I was laughing my ass off. It was pretty funny. Oh my God. That is funny. But also I feel, I feel Don's pain. Yeah. It's funny, but not that funny. I find it funny. And then we're going to go to a casino out there. There's a casino and go on the boat. It's going to be like 113 degrees. Oh my Lord. Yeah. It's like in Arizona on the river. Parker. I feel like it's 113 degrees in here right now. I have the AC on.

00:04:55 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 1:

Yeah. And I've been getting like hot and cold, hot and cold.

00:05:00 - 00:05:07 | Speaker 2:

this morning. Me too. I was Googling the symptoms of like a cold clammy feeling like cold sweats.

00:05:08 - 00:05:29 | Speaker 1:

Yes. Have you been getting that? Yeah. Yeah. Like I wake up in the middle of the night and I I'm like sweating, but the air is on. So I like kick off the covers and I lay there and then I get hot and then I get sweat and then I get cold again and then I'm sweating. So then I'm cold, but then I'm hot. I don't know what to do with myself. I am the same way though. This is so crazy. Another

00:05:29 - 00:08:28 | Speaker 2:

parallel lives thing. Right. It's so weird. So when, okay, let me go back in my week and then I'm going to come back to casinos. Yeah. For good reason. Yeah. So my really good friend's mom passed away and, uh, her, the funeral was last. So we're recording on a Monday. So it was last Tuesday and her mom had been sick for a long time. And towards the end, she was like, remember i told you that when i went for my birthday dinner she couldn't come because it was and that night that in the middle of the night of that night her mom passed away so then two days later because the jews they got to turn things around right fast right right there is no sleep for the weary it's like i even told her well because i think i told you this because we were recording on monday so i told her it would be a little bit better for me if we didn't do the funeral on Monday. And she's like, okay, I'll let my mom know. And I was like, thank you. That's right. Yeah. You were leaving to go to the funeral last week. No, no. Cause we recorded on Monday. The funeral was the next day, but it could have been earlier. She told me later that she was like, honestly, I was thinking, cause I was obviously kidding with her. It's always fun to joke with people about their mom's impending death. You know, they love that kind of humor. Yeah. No, but she, she, she was like, I mean, when she's, her mom was still alive when I said it, okay, this is so dark, but her mom was going to be passing away in the next like 24 to 48 hours. So I was like, well, when would the funeral be? And she goes, it just kind of depends, but it has to be super fast. So I was like, well, if she dies on Saturday, which she did in the middle of the night though, almost Sunday morning, it could be Monday. And that's when I was like, oof, that wouldn't be great for me. Right. I got a lot going on on Monday. So then she was like, okay, yeah, sure. I'll, I'll keep that in mind. So I'll tell my mom to keep that in mind. Anyway, then her mom did die. And I was like, oh no, I hope she doesn't try to turn this around in one day, but also for her sake, I mean, she'd already been like not sleeping in like three days, you know, she'd been up all night with her mom, but luckily she did have it one day later and she had to plan it and write a eulogy and like her anyway, that's tough. Yeah. Oh my God. Can I come? Okay. This is so petty, but you're going to know what I mean. Okay. This is like Mike, really one of my very closest friends, my friend, Laura, She's like a sister. Yeah. And all of her friends, we all really showed up for her. And, you know, we put together the Shiva, which was going to be the night of the funeral. We really tried to take everything off her plate. And most of her friends showed up for her. So there's this one woman, I will not mention her name, who I'm not really friends with.

00:08:28 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 2:

and Laura's not really close friends with either, but she showed up to the funeral, which was like out in Silmar. So it was a drive. It was a commitment to go to this funeral. It was, I mean, I'm not, it wasn't like an hour away. It was, but it was like 30 minutes away. Okay. Oh my God. First of all, too, I digress for one second. So Laura's request for me was her mom was living in this assisted living and she had two best friends there. And Laura's request for me was would there be any way you could pick up these two old people and bring them to the funeral? They have both have walkers. And I was like, of course, yeah, no problem. And this place is like right down the street from my house anyway. It was like no big deal, but. And you've never met them. Never met them before. And Laura was freaking out. Just like, are you sure? She's very, if you think I'm neurotic, she's like way more neurotic than I am. Yeah. Um, you know, cause I'm only a Jew by like culture. She's like fully Jewish. So she's very neurotic. And she's like, okay, but like, is your trunk big enough? Like what car are you going to take? And I was like, girl, it's fine. Like I have a big enough trunk for a walker and they collapse. Right. I don't know. We need to have someone on backup for you. And I was like, sorry. Okay. So I go to pick up these old people. Right. I found out later that she was expressing doubt about the fact that I'd be able to do it. I could handle the job.

00:10:00 - 00:10:24 | Speaker 3:

And she made her other friend Google the trunk size of my car to be sure that the walkers would fit. Are you serious? Spoiler alert, the walkers fit just fine. It was not a big deal. Do they have like the little tennis balls on the bottom? Yes. How cute. Yes. Well, one of them is the kind that you sit. Right. And you sit on it. And the other one is the old school with tennis balls on the bottom. Right.

00:10:25 - 00:10:54 | Speaker 1:

Today in your city, someone is walking their dog. Someone is crossing the street to their car. Someone's kid is riding a bike home. And they're counting on you to drive the speed limit. Speeding accounts for nearly 30% of traffic fatalities. And most of those crashes don't happen on the interstate. They happen on the streets where people live. Slow down. It's an act of care for the people around you. So remember, speeding catches up with you. Know the road and respect its limits. Presented by NHTSA. Now back to your podcast.

00:11:26 - 00:14:23 | Speaker 3:

I think they both have tennis balls on the bottom, but anyway, I go pick up these old people. They're the fricking cutest thing ever. Right. Uh, I'll just shout them out. They're never going to listen to this. One of them's hard of hearing. He's not going to listen to a podcast. Perry, he was in his nineties and then Sandy, she was only in her eighties. So she's still pretty spry. Right. Um, but they both have walkers. So I get their walkers in the car. And first of all, these old people are so crazy grateful too much, you know, when they're just like, Oh my gosh, thank you. Thank you. And I'm like, it's real. It honestly wasn't a big deal. It's down the street from my house. Oh my gosh. It's so nice of you. I've eventually I was like, you can't, you're not allowed to thank me anymore. It's genuinely not worth thanking me. Right. Anyway, I bring them to the service and they were so great. Did I mention how grateful they were? They were so happy to be there. Are they like this? They're like the really cute old people. Like, like so super cute. Yes. Yeah. Super cute. Yeah. So Perry is very hard of hearing and Sandy had to keep like talking to him. Right. Perry, she wants to know, like, you know, yeah. Cause if I couldn't just, she could have just said, you got to talk real loud for him. Right. Right. Cutest thing is on the way home. I was trying to ask questions, but I'm in the front seat. He's in the back seat. You can just see he's checked out because he can't hear. Yeah. So he's just like, whatever. Right. I'm just a passenger. Yeah. But we're on the way home. And I said, uh, she told me that he used to be in a jazz trio when he was much younger. And I was like, Oh, like what kind of, what kind of music did you do? And he, he was like, Oh, like Ella Fitzgerald and, you know, some other jazz musicians. And I was like, do you know Nina Simone? Uh, maybe I didn't say it loud enough, but he was like, Oh, I don't know. And then she's like, I don't know if I've heard of that. Right. I was like, you guys come on. So I'm like, Siri play Nina Simone. I want a little sugar in my bowl. So, you know, that song, I want a little sugar in my bowl. Anyway, it doesn't matter. Yeah. So that song comes on. I've heard of neither of them are really recognizing it. So then I'm like, Oh, hold on. So I played Nina Simone feeling good and I'm feeling good. You know that song? Birds flying high. You know how I feel. Anyway. Yeah. I put that song on. I blast it. It's so loud. Right. Like uncomfortably loud for me. Right. Perry's like, Oh, and then he starts going, but, um, it was so cute. I said to Sandy, should I try? I should turn it down. Right. Like for us. And she was like, well, no, cause he's not gonna be able to hear it. So we got to listen to it loud. Sandy's taking one for the team. I go, we're like teenagers right now, blasting music. Right. Did he have any earbuds,

00:14:24 - 00:14:59 | Speaker 3:

ear hearing aids? I don't think so. I think he's beyond that. Yeah. I'm not sure. You play him like Metallica's greatest hits. I should have. I should have, except for we would have been the one's hurting. Right. Right. So, okay. Cute. So we go, we go to that. And then, um, the next day then we come back to Laura's house. So she was doing a service at the assisted living the next day. And so I went back on my own. Really? Yeah. Just for that. And I got to see her again. And then I got to see Perry again. And then I made a new friend.

00:15:00 - 00:15:32 | Speaker 2:

name's Susan. And I got phone numbers. Nobody's called me yet. I gave out my phone number to like three different people. Right. And then I was, of course, you know, me, my eyes are bigger than my stomach. I was like, who's up for poker? Like, do you guys play poker around here? And they're like, oh yeah. And then I started bonding with some women that play poker. Nice. And then they're like, we think we could get you into our game. I was like, I am in, I got a, I got a plastic cup full of change right sitting on my counter like let's go yeah so I'm gonna get invited for poker

00:15:32 - 00:16:20 | Speaker 1:

that would be so fun I remember when Natalia was younger when we did we were doing that that uh charity event that charity anyway um and we would go once a month to the to the old folks home in our neighborhood and we would do bingo and it was so much fun I want to do bingo so bad. It was the, I had the best time doing that. I was like, when are we going to go again? Oh, Natalia can't make it. I'll go the other moms. That's fine. Like I would loved it. I can't, I remember if I talked about it, I loved it. It was so much fun. And then you get to know the same people like, what's up pal, you know, or Susan or, you know what I mean? Then they become your friends and they so much appreciate it. Oh, and I immediately got involved in the drama

00:16:20 - 00:17:19 | Speaker 2:

because, you know, there's drama. Oh, well, you know, the, um, the activities director got fired and, you know, I apparently half the people were really upset about that because they loved her, but then there were some other people that might've been the instigators behind it that didn't like her. Right. But then the people, they had to kind of keep it quiet. Like who was the one that was like ratting out the activity. And I heard she was really lovely and super fun and did exercise classes with them. And then I was like, well, what are you guys, who's organizing your activities? And they're like, no one, we have to kind of do it ourselves. So they still had bingo, but they don't have it regularly. And I was like, oh no, I think, you know, me, I was like, how much does that pay to be the director? I was just going to say, it's like a full-time job though. Right. Oh, it is. Like you got to go every day and come up with all the activities and you need some kind of experience or whatever. And I was like, I could totally do. I mean,

00:17:19 - 00:17:25 | Speaker 1:

I could do that. Or like, so it'd be a great job for like Natalia or, you know? Yeah. But you have

00:17:25 - 00:18:09 | Speaker 2:

to be like, that's your, you can't be going to college. Like that's your job. Yeah. Yeah. And then you have to be organizing it so that it's like every day you, you, they have to put out the schedule of the activities. Right. But I'm like, listen, maybe I'd be better than nothing right now. Yeah, exactly. Yeah. Until they get somebody in there. It's just funny. And I was like, Oh my God, tell me, please tell me more. I'm like leaning in, please tell me more about this activities director. So wait, so you liked her. Right. Okay. What did they not like about her? Yeah. Right. Who ratted who out? Yeah. That's the best. Yeah. So anyway, it was that night that I really like started to not feel well. I was like, do I have the lettuce problem?

00:18:09 - 00:18:49 | Speaker 1:

Yes. But speaking of the lettuce problem, that. Oh, hello, Tushy. Hello, Tushy. We have a new sponsor. Listen, I want this for my new house. You're getting it. Oh, I can't wait. Yeah. Yes. Tushy, the Tushy Boudet, um, transforms your bathroom wellness for life and it's gut to butt to bowl is what they say. Yeah. 00:18:49 - 00:18:55 | Speaker 2:

you something. The wipes, you know, those like butt wipes. Yeah. You can't flush them. You're

00:18:55 - 00:19:12 | Speaker 1:

not. So then you have to put like a dirty wipe in your bathroom trap. Oh my God. I was just hearing about this. Yeah. You're not, even though they say flushable, they're flushable. Every plumber do not tell you don't flush them. Right. It's not good. So that's why you need tushy. Cause

00:19:12 - 00:19:18 | Speaker 2:

tushy can like, you just spritz, spritz off the, you know, yeah. Remnants of your poop.

That's right. And it's easily attached to your existing toilet without the need for additional plumbing that E bidets only require an outlet. So yeah. So stay fresh and healthy where the AC

00:19:52 - 00:19:59 | Speaker 1:

Today in your city, someone is walking their dog. Someone is crossing the street to their car. Someone's kid is riding a bike.

00:20:00 - 00:20:28 | Speaker 4:

home. You say you'll never join the Navy. Never. Climb Mount Fuji on a port

00:20:28 - 00:20:46 | Speaker 3:

visit or break the sound barrier joining the navy sounds crazy saying never actually is learn why at navy.com america's navy forged by the sea so um okay other story is that um lb that would be my

00:20:46 - 00:20:56 | Speaker 2:

eldest child for people that can't answer the question some people try to join the facebook group and they don't know that i have three kids even how do you listen to this show if you don't

00:20:56 - 00:21:01 | Speaker 1:

even, do they just forget about LB? No. How do they not know that who your kids are that then

00:21:01 - 00:22:16 | Speaker 2:

they don't listen? Yeah. So LB went to Vegas and it was very, she had a great time, even though it was so fricking hot. Yeah. I bet. Talk about 113. She said it was like horrible. Yeah. They went to like daytime parties. Darties. Yeah. They went to some darties. So LB's friend, it was LB's friend's birthday and the dad, I think they have a lot of money. They spoiled her rotten. So they sent, it was the four girls went. And so I found out that they get there. They were staying at the MGM. They get their room and they're walking to their room and they keep walking and keep walking and keep walking. And they had one of those suites. So they get to the end of the hall and they're like, wait, what? And the double doors and they open it up and it's a humongous suite with a pool table and two bedrooms. And like, that's awesome. And they were screaming. And then the dad had hidden like a little Easter egg hunt, but with alcohol, a little bottles of like Smirnoff ice around, around the room. Like there was one in the shower and there was two in the bathroom and

00:22:16 - 00:22:25 | Speaker 1:

Yeah. That's cute. Isn't that adorable? Is that the first time she's been there since she was, she's 21, right? No, because she went with her school.

00:22:26 - 00:23:03 | Speaker 2:

She only went a few months ago with her school. Right. But this was the first time, just like a girl's trip to Vegas. So the last night she's there, well, she's there two nights, but the second night she's there, they played craps and the dad gave her, the dad put out a thousand dollars, 500 for him and 500 for his daughter. And Elby was just standing there watching. And then he was like, no, you got to get into puts a hundred dollars down for her. So she played and she won like $650 or something. See, but now she's thinks that that's what Vegas is. And I'm like, girl,

00:23:03 - 00:23:10 | Speaker 1:

no, no, no. Like it's when you first played craps for the first time and it goes well and it goes

00:23:10 - 00:23:23 | Speaker 2:

well. And that's the best. It's the most magical feeling. She was like, mom, I totally get it. It was exhilarating. I think it was the best I've ever felt. I'm like, Oh, but I know that feeling.

00:23:23 - 00:24:13 | Speaker 1:

Yeah. It's so fun. I mean, remember we went last like a year ago with our friend. What did I call him? Let's call him Mark. Cause that's his name that we all that just drove us all nuts. And I remember we were, I was playing craps and he was like, just standing there next to me. And he's like, okay, so if you don't want a seven, you don't want, you do want a seven and you don't, I'm like, get the fuck out of here. Stop saying seven, get lost, beat it. And he just kept, he was like following everybody around and nobody wanted to be standing next to him. It drove us nuts. But yeah, that, that was like the worst. Usually I do pretty well at craps. It's hard. It's kind of like confusing at first, but once you get the hang of it, it's fucking fun. And you can, I mean, and it's expensive now in Vegas. It's like $25.

00:24:14 - 00:24:30 | Speaker 2:

It was $25. Yeah, that's ridiculous. And then LB's other two of the other two friends came over later. They'd been playing blackjack and they upped the table to $50. Yeah. But they grandfathered her and her friend in so they could still play for $25. That's nice.

00:24:30 - 00:24:59 | Speaker 1:

But everybody ended up winning. Yeah. See, it's, see, it's a double-edged sword because, you know, yeah, it's $25, but then when you win, you get paid a good amount, you know? Right. So you got to learn, like I learned in downtown Vegas, like at the, you know, and off the Vegas Strip, like old school casinos where it's like five bucks or 10 bucks. They still do $5? I don't know. Cause I haven't done it recently, but that's $10 would be a treat though. I know. At this point. Right. That would feel.

00:25:00 - 00:25:05 | Speaker 2:

relaxing. Yes. Yeah. I don't feel like I could comfortably play craps for $25.

00:25:06 - 00:25:14 | Speaker 1:

You just have to like go, okay, I'm going to spend 300 bucks and then see where, where it goes. And then you go a little bit at a time, a little bit at a time.

00:25:14 - 00:26:08 | Speaker 2:

See, but I used to like when you could play for $5 and I was trying to tell Elby about this. I was like, when you could play for $5 and you got on a good roll, then you just start putting your money on everything. You're just like, okay, I want all the hard ways. And you throw out a stack of fives And they go, and I was like, I want, and then you just yell every time, hard six, you know, if the number six, you're like the heart, let's go hard six. Yes. And you're screaming and you're drunk. If you're me, it's the best. And you get a crowd around you. Like it's so fun. Right. It is. It's, but I was like, but the flip side is you could have all your money out there. You're like, let it ride, let it ride. And then all of a sudden seven out and everything. And you're like, wait, what? I know that's, it sucks. And then you're done. Right. I know. And you got to go try to get some free drinks, but they don't even really give free drinks when you're playing

00:26:08 - 00:26:29 | Speaker 1:

slots or anything. You have to like really flag them down. Dawn's got it down good. I mean, she sits there and plays the video poker and she just, they, they know like they, you know, but you, it is kind of hard. Like if you're sitting by yourself playing video games, you got to like flag them. The tables, they usually come around. And they give you free

00:26:29 - 00:26:39 | Speaker 2:

drinks? Yeah. As far as I remember. Why am I so concerned with free drinks right now? I haven't had a drink in 17 years and I'm like, okay, but wait, can you get free drinks?

00:26:40 - 00:29:39 | Speaker 1:

You can get your seven up or you like give them a tip, you know, you give them a $5 chip or something when they come, when they come and bring you drinks. Speaking of being deaf and not being able to hear. So my friends did a birthday dinner last week, and you're going to love this story because you're going to relate to this. So we, we just started doing this and this is like the third time I missed last time because I had to go look at a house. Anyway, we get together for like each other's birth, like it's the summer birthday, it's the winter birthdays, whatever. So we got together at Katsuya last week for the summer birthdays. It was me and this other girl, cindy shit when's your birthday my birthday is not for another month oh okay at least okay the end of august oh okay yeah but so it was her her and i it was our it was our birthdays and then there was you know gina kimmel melissa which katsuya did you go to the og one by studio city oh okay okay yeah because that's what i picture it yeah yeah that's where we used to go okay all the time so that's a good katsuya yeah well kind of it's gone downhill i have to say is it for the one in Encino is still really good. I'm sure that one is the last couple of times I've been to this one in studio city. There's a lot of like flies buzzing around, like, but not flies, but like little gnats. Ooh. Yeah. And it kind of like, it's just, it's not as good as I remember it to being, cause I haven't had Katsui in a long time, but it was fun. You know, I mean, we were there and it was like, uh, Jimmy's cousin, Mickey, Jimmy's cousin, and like, you know, the kind of the old school group of girls. And, um, and I was thinking like no gifts, you know, because the, the first one we went, I went to, we didn't do gifts. And I guess they did it at the last one that I wasn't at. So I'm just thinking, you know, we're eating dinner and it was like, you know, okay, no, no, everything. Like we're having a good time and eating our subpar sushi. And then, and then, uh, and then at the end, everybody brings out a gift for me. And I'm like, what? And then the other birthday girl gets me a gift. Oh no. And I'm sitting there like an idiot. I'm like, wait a second. And I felt like such a jackass. I was like, I didn't. And they're like, Oh, don't worry. Don't worry. Don't worry. You know, whatever. But like, they put like thought in some of these gifts. Like I got this whole, the other birthday girl got me like a tote bag, a makeup bag with my initial on it. And like this, like, like glass thing from my counter in my bathroom. And then, you know, and then another one got me like a candle that was like, it's a joke between the two of us. She named the, it was called it's November bitch candle. Cause it's a joke between the two of us. And, and it's like, I mean like really they put thought into it. You know what I mean? Yeah. And I was just like, I feel like such a, this is the ABC girls. No,

00:29:39 - 00:30:16 | Speaker 1:

this is like Jimmy's cousins and Gina Kimmel. Okay. Yeah. Cause we have, we never really see gina very much so like we started it for gina's birthday and gina's like no gifts so okay but then it's very confusing yeah you know my group it's like goes back and forth i told you that there that my one, my friend Cecily is like, no gifts. I don't like gifts, but then everybody else gets gifts. And I told you that we got to a point where we're like, well, if we have to get gifts for everybody else, then fine. Get me a gift, bitch. Right. Let's go. Let's go. And something

00:30:16 - 00:30:49 | Speaker 2:

thoughtful. Yeah. Yes. I know. And like one of them is working at the El Portal theater and she got us like tickets to this big, like, um, this big show that's coming in, in the end of, in September, you know, like, you know, I don't know. It just was really like thoughtful. And I was just like, but the thing that I was going to say is we're sitting in this restaurant and they're, they have the music. And I don't remember this either at Katsuya, but their music was really loud. And then there's, you know, in Katsuya, all the tables are next to each other. Isn't that

00:30:49 - 00:31:13 | Speaker 1:

where you saw what's his face? Yes, Mauricio. And I had my panic attack because people were going, who is it? Who did you see? And I was like, shut the fucking seat. Stop. And they were like, what? Why are you acting like that? And I was like, he was right behind me. Right. You know, he knew when they were all going, what, why, what's going on, mom? Who did you see? God, how embarrassing.

00:31:14 - 00:32:10 | Speaker 2:

Was it that Katsuya? No, it was the one in Encino. Yeah. That's where they live. Yeah. So they, it was, Dave Grohl was at this one a couple of times, like a couple of way back, like a couple of years ago. Anyway, the music was loud and then everybody around you was talking. So everybody else is at their tables are talking really loud. And then Gina is one of these quiet talkers. And so is the other birthday girl. She's like very quiet and she's like talking to me and she's like, and I'm like, what? I can't hear you. Speak up. speak of the volume, take the volume up. I can't hear, I can't hear any. Gina's all the way at the other end of the table. I'm like, Gina, I can't hear you. And she's like, I was saying, and it's like, I'm like, I need hearing aids. It's getting bad. Like, and I just, I feel like, wow, how come everybody else can hear each other? I just, I don't know. I don't feel like they can though.

00:32:10 - 00:32:25 | Speaker 1:

Yeah. I'm the same way. I told you when I went for that other birthday at that place that was blasting music. And I felt the same way. I felt like I was being assaulted, violated by this music. And I couldn't believe that no one else wanted to just leave. I wanted to put like

00:32:25 - 00:33:04 | Speaker 2:

napkins in my ears. That's how I know. I was thinking about you. I know it is horrible. And it's just like, okay, can we like finish up and go sit outside so I can hear you like catch up with everybody? Cause I can't hear anything at this dinner, but like, you know, you would just end up talking to the person across from you pretty much. So you got to pray you're sitting either next to or across from somebody that's worth talking to. Right. Which I love them all. So it didn't matter. Melissa sat across from me, but yeah, but Gina, but why the quiet talker at the other end of the table? Like, I'm like, I just tell me this later when we leave, when we go out and get our cars, you know, because I can't hear

00:33:04 - 00:33:27 | Speaker 1:

anything. I, when I went to that one dinner, I told you we went and like sat on a wall outside and have like another 30 minutes of conversation because we hadn't been able to hear. But at that point I was tired and I'm like, well, now I want to go home because I'm tired. I was sitting on a cement wall on the street. We could have gone to coffee or I don't know, gone to Menchie's or something.

00:33:27 - 00:34:03 | Speaker 2:

We all went to one of the girls that lived very close to Katsu, went to her house afterward, put our feet in the pool and hung out for a little bit, which was nice. So then we could hear each other. Yeah. But like, everybody's getting old. One of them is like, just had cataract surgeries, sunglasses inside the restaurant. Like she looked like Stevie Wonder. I can't hear each other. Like, and what is with these quiet talkers? It's really annoying. It kind of sometimes makes me want to avoid sitting next to them. Yeah. Because, you know, I like, I just can't,

00:34:03 - 00:34:38 | Speaker 1:

can't hear, like speak up. Well, we've been podcasting for a long time. So we understand like project your voice. Right. If you're going to tell a story, you can't tell it like you're in a fricking library. Right. Like, yeah. And then I went to the, to the store and I saw the what? No, we can't hear any of that or nor are you going to hold our interest. Right. Right. Yeah. Right. There's volume. There's the, the talk with your hands a little bit, like make some gestures. So we have, you know, show that you're interested in what you're saying as well. Right, right. Exactly. Nobody's good. We're just good to know.

00:34:38 - 00:34:59 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, yeah. But it was a, it was a fun, it was a fun night. And then, and then Natalia. So when, okay. She, oh, it was the night of this dinner. That's why I was going to bring her up. So supposed to be at the dinner at six o'clock. Natalia calls me at five o'clock getting out of the shower.

00:35:00 - 00:38:00 | Speaker 1:

Um, I just ran out of gas. I'm on the side of the freeway. Oh, no. Right at the exit where we get off by our house. Yeah. Runs out of gas. Yeah. And I'm like, I have an electric car, so I don't have a gas can. Let it go to the gas station, get the gas can. Wait, you had just gotten out of the shower. I just got out of the shower. I'm getting ready to go to this dinner. Right. Thank God I took a shower because then I got doused with gasoline. So I had to go to this dinner. Why didn't she just call AAA? because it expired oh no yeah you know you can just re-up it right then we you know the thing though is i could have called triple a but she was so close to the exit to our house i all i had to do was get in the car go to the gas station get a gas tank get a gas can fill it up bring it to her and goodbye so like by the time triple a you know what i mean so i get so i get to the gas station the guy i've never done i so the guy like i put the gas in the gas tank and i'm like how does the thing because it's not pouring out and he's like you got to push really hard on this red thing and he does it for me and he pushes it and you got to hold it down on the gas can on the gas can yes to get the to the gas to come out i'm like okay in the car get to natalia on the side of the freeway. Like it's fucking, you know, I know. And, uh, I was like, okay, get the thing. And I'm like, okay, push it down, pushing it down really hard. It's not clicking. It's not doing anything and no gas is coming out. Oh no. Pushing it down, pushing it down, pushing it down. Nothing. Well, at first, at first, when I went to, to put it into the gas, into the, her gas tank, it was still loose at the bottom of the can. So all the gas came, a lot of the gas came out all over me. I know, I know. Luckily I wasn't wearing the clothes I was wearing to go to the dinner. Right. But so it came out all over me. And now it's like, now she's got like a half a tank, you know, cause so much gas came out. I was like, Oh shit. So I had to like tight and tight, tight it up and then pushing it down. No gas is coming out. Nothing. And Natalia's like, let me try. She's doing it. Nothing, nothing, nothing. Now we're standing on the side of the freeway, like 10 minutes. I got to get ready and go to this dinner for you. Yes. For me, where everybody's going to shower me with gifts and I'm going to show up like empty handed for the other birthday girl, but smelling like gas, smelling like gas. Right. And so, and it spilled in my car, of course. So my car smells like gas, but it spilled on my, on the mat. So I had took the mat out and like washed it down. Okay. Anyway, nothing's coming up. Finally, after like 15 minutes, she like holds it down. She's like, Oh, I think I got it. And she's like squeezing it. Her hand is shaking. Like our hands weren't strong enough to push the thing down is basically what was going on. And then got the gas in the thing.

00:38:00 - 00:38:36 | Speaker 1:

And then she went on her way and I went on my way. And then I show up at the dinner and everybody's like, why do you smell like gas? Wait, so you didn't go back home? Like I did. I ran back home, changed, didn't do my hair, put my hair in a ponytail, did a little makeup and then left. And then I show up and no offense to my friends, but you know, like they're wearing like a t-shirt and jeans and like, you know, I was wearing like a nice blouse and I put mascara on and nobody's got makeup on. Granted, it's like 112 degrees outside. I think that day. I know. But like, at what age do we just stop? Like, I know that's what I was thinking. I was

00:38:36 - 00:39:59 | Speaker 2:

like, why did I even bother with putting mascara on? This morning I went for a walk. I had to walk Bob and, um, I was just like, you know what? I'm just not putting on a bra. I'm just not doing it. I went for a walk, but all the way in the park with lots of people around and I have pretty big boobs. Right. You know, I got double D's over here and I was just like, I'm not doing it. I don't care. And yeah, they're moving around. Listen, the boobs are not like fresh either. So there, there's a lot of, yeah. Movement, a lot of movement. They're pretty hanging pretty low. You know what I mean? It's not great. And I had to bend down to tie my shoe at one point. And I was like, Oh God, are the boobs going to fall out of the front of my t-shirt? You know, I mean, they're on the loose. And I was honestly, I was like, I don't care. I just do not want to be uncomfortable. Right. I know. I put on one to come here, but I was like, you never know if you're going to have to stop at seven 11 or whatever. And that, that feels like a bridge too far. But I'm like, I'm at the park. Like you're it's that's on you. If you want to be looking. Right. That's true. Avert your gaze. If it's like, yeah. Unattractive. Yeah. I just, but I don't know when that lack of like, like, who am I going to see? Like, well, I don't know. I do go out most of the time. I'm not worried.

00:40:00 - 00:41:34 | Speaker 1:

makeup. Right. Me too. But, but I'm the same as you. Like if I was going to dinner with my friends, I would put on some makeup. Yeah. Yeah. Not a ton. I'm not putting on a like, you know, right. 00:42:48 - 00:45:48 | Speaker 1:

funny, fun. Yeah. After, so LB gets back from Vegas. I pick her up at her friend's house. Um, cause her car's in the shop because of course the night before she's leaving for Vegas and she wasn't driving. So that's good. Um, she's like, uh, check engine light came on and the oil light came on. Now we just got our car service two months ago, uh, May in May. So I'm like, what the fuck? Now, remember we did buy the Jetta used. So, you know, stuff that's going to come up, stuff's going to happen, but it's always fricking something with a car. It's not under warranty. Yeah. So I, we bring it in the next day and needs a new timing belt. I don't know. And the oil was already dirty and she'd already driven like 2,700 miles. Where are these kids going all the time? She just had a service though, two months earlier. Yeah. But he said, because the timing belt, the, whatever was wrong with it was causing, uh, blocking the oil from work. I, right. Yeah. I was only a mechanic for like, I went to school for it. Yes. But then did I, I did it for like 10 years. And then I just kind of, you forget so fast. Yeah. Yeah. The modern cars, they're always changing things. So I don't know. You haven't been updated. I got to read, get recertified. Yeah. Sure. Yeah. Um, yeah. So anyway, okay. So that's going to cost me money. So of course I'm thinking about that. Like she's not going to pay for it. What, you know, but then she goes to Vegas. So I look at her bank account and I feel like anybody who has, when your kids first get a bank account, oftentimes it's connected to your bank account. She's not independent in the fact, like I can see it. When I look at my account, I can see her account. Right. So, and I don't like check up on her and see what she's spending all the time. But if her account drops below a hundred dollars, I get notified. Yeah. Yeah. Hey, one of your accounts dropped below a hundred dollars. and I'm like, oh, I wonder whose. To be fair, every once in a while, it's Xander. But I'm always like, okay, I'll be, I'll be who practically works a full-time job, but cannot keep a dollar in her bank account. So at one point she has like $500. She goes to Vegas the next day. She's got like 17, but then she won a bunch of money and she had, anyway, it doesn't really matter, but she comes home and she's all miss. I can't wait to go to back to Vegas and gamble, but mom, I need to learn how to play blackjack. Cause like my friends are playing blackjack and I was like, oh, hell yeah. I'll teach you how to play blackjack. Yeah. So she was so into it. It was really cute bonding experience because like now you're speaking mama's language, you know? I'm like, okay. So we, she, before she even showers, she's like, okay, can you teach me right now? I was like, hell yeah, I can. So we're playing blackjack and I'm like, it's all coming

00:45:48 - 00:45:53 | Speaker 1:

back to me. Cause I haven't played in a while. Do you play a lot of blackjack? I never really

00:45:53 - 00:46:03 | Speaker 2:

get, get into blackjack for some reason. I, it's also too, like the counting. I'm like very bad at math. So I have to like under the table, go seven, eight, nine, 10. Oh my God. Same. No,

00:46:03 - 00:48:58 | Speaker 1:

I'm really bad too. And I always just look at it for a long time. Like I'm waiting for the other person to say what's there. I'm like eight and six. That's a hard one. 14. Okay. I don't have it all memorized either, but I do, I do count it in my head really fast. But I do know, like you always assume the dealer has 20. So if the dealer is showing a face card, you got to assume they have 20. So if you have 16, if you have 16, you got to hit it. Yeah. Right. Right. All those rules. I just start telling her everything and she's taking it in. Cause she's very smart. So she's like surprisingly getting it. And I'm like, okay, aces, you just got dull aces. Got to split them. Yeah. Got to split them. Yeah. That's the thing. I never know when to split. Now, when you have, like, if you have a pair of eights, you're going to want to split those against, you're not going to split them against if you think the dealer has 20. Right. But if the dealer is showing like a six, a two, three, four, five, six, or seven, you're going to split those eights. Okay. Cause you have 16. Right. So you'd either have to hit it. You're only going to hit that if you're going again, you get it. Yeah. So I'm like, I know all I was, all the intricacies were coming back to me. Right. Even though I haven't been to Vegas in forever, but I was like, Oh, okay. And here's what you're going to split. And she's like, I'm like, okay, do you got it? Now we're just, we played so many hands. Right. So then the best part was she was like, okay, okay. I got that. But now I need to learn, I need to learn how to play poker again. Now, remember when she was young, she played, she, I taught her how to play poker when she was like eight. Was she eight? Well, I remember people, we hadn't had people that long and people got sprayed by a skunk. Right. I told you that story and I was playing online poker and I was almost in the money. Yeah. And I was like, LB get in here. You got to put, and she was like, no. And I was like, you have to play for me. Right. And I was just like, yell to me what you have. Cause she knew the basics. And then she was yelling to me, mom, I have a pair of twos. I'm in the bathroom washing people with skunk shampoo. John's mad. I've got, I got a bathtub full of like hydro whatever that hydro the peroxide the peroxide the dawn um yeah so yeah and uh whatever and so and elvie's like mom a two came up i'm like okay you got trips go all in like what you know right she's eight years old yes she was probably like eight or or maybe 10 yeah at the oldest yeah So anyway, that was really cute. And then poker too. So then, so last night we got out, I have one of those poker mats that like you put on your dining room table. Right. This makes it into like a poker table. We have chips and we have all the cards. And so we, I got LB and then we got Xander. Nice.

00:48:58 - 00:51:56 | Speaker 1:

And then Xander comes in, he goes and he puts on Mardi Gras beads and sunglasses. i should have taken a picture of it that's so funny so hilarious and then we started playing like tournament style i was not taking it easy on them wow i haven't laughed so hard i was laughing so hard i get this like pain in the back of my head right because at one point like xander he wasn't it ended up that he wasn't bluffing but we all thought he was bluffing so we kept calling the bet. And then he showed that he had whatever triple trip Queens. Right. So then this other hand, I was totally bluffing, but I just started playing like super aggressively and they were getting really mad. So Xander bet 25 and I was like, raise you 50. And he was like, what? And then they got so mad at their like, mom, that is not nice. I was like, that's poker, baby. And then I did. And then Xander folded and LB folded and I did not have anything. We were playing it where we would just show and they were like, oh my God, mom, you fucked us over. That is so mean. That's poker, baby. I'm like, I'm trying to teach you. How are you going to learn? That's great. That's so cute. We had so much fun. Isn't it great when you can gamble with your kids? Oh my God. And what a fun skill for them to have. Yeah, for sure. I feel like Xander's going away to college. Yeah. Like you should have that skill. You should be able to sit in poker games with your friends. I agree. I agree. Same with LB. LB told me that, um, in her whole group of friends, only the guys play poker. She's like, no, I think I'm one of the only girls that like even knows how, but I was like, well, you need to know enough so you could sit down in a poker game with them. Yeah. Well, now you inspired me, but I got to learn first. I'll teach you how to play poker. Yeah. I mean, I kind of get the gist of it. Cause when I sit with Dawn, but like, I don't know, I mean, teaching them, you know, you got to really memorize what the whole, what, because if you don't know it, like the back of your hand, you can't like play against other people because it's all strategy. It's all like, what could they have? What could I get? Like, what, what is my possibilities of my best hands? But what am I playing? What am I looking at? Right. This person's betting. What, what do they probably have? Yeah. That's the thing that I've gotten really good at over the years is like, I still get really scared. I get easily intimidated out of a hand. Right. My problem is I always assume people have better cards than I do. Yeah. I'm like, well, they wouldn't be betting unless they had a good hand, which is of course not true. Right. Right. But I always assume it. So then I go, Oh, my pair is not going to, I get scared and I don't stay in hands that I should. Yeah. But I do have a sense of like, okay, I think this person has a straight, I think, you know what I mean? Yeah. I think you got the mind for that. You got the brain for that. I love it. Yeah. Are you, do you play at all

00:51:56 - 00:54:56 | Speaker 1:

anymore online? No. Cause they, um, it's illegal. Oh, that's outlawed it. California has no online gambling. Yeah. That sucks. It's such a bummer. I think I told you this on the show before. Cause John was like, you know, I could get you, we could use the, um, what do you call it? When you, the thing that you, everybody has nowadays, we have one too, that can hot, that hides where you are. Oh, your VPN. Yeah. He's like, we can use a VPN and get a bank account that won't like whatever. And I was like, I'm not doing all that $10 poker. Right. Right. Yeah. Yeah. It's not my job. That's crazy. No. Right.
