A first date in Half Moon Bay sounds like a movie scene — seafood by the harbor and a walk along the coast. Griffin says the conversation was easy and the vibe felt right, so he was surprised when Ella suddenly ghosted. Was it something he said, or did the romance fade with the tide? We get Ella on the phone to find out. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

It's Marcus in the morning. It's time for everybody's favorite re-hook-up segment. I think that's what I'm calling this. Griffin, are you there?

00:00:37 - 00:00:38 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, hey, how you doing?

00:00:38 - 00:00:45 | Speaker 4:

Good, man. I say re-hook-up segment because you've already connected with Ella, but she's ghosted, so we're going to try to reconnect.

00:00:45 - 00:00:47 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, I'm trying to figure out what happened.

00:00:47 - 00:00:57 | Speaker 4:

Let's talk about your date, because we want to figure out why Ella ghosted. I'm assuming she ghosted. I think it's cute. I love the fact that you guys went out to Half Moon Bay on your date, so please, lay it out for me.

00:00:57 - 00:01:28 | Speaker 3:

So, she lives in Mowbray, and I live in San Mateo, so we just decided to be on the coast side, and romantic vibes and all that stuff, and we grabbed dinner at a seafood spot in the harbor, and then afterwards, she had, like, a short walk along the harbor trail, just with the water and everything, and it was beautiful, and it was a really good talk, you know, there was a kiss at the end of the night, vibes were there, man, and I just don't know why she just stopped answering my messages, like, all my texts, my calls, and I'm trying not to be a maniac, call her too much, but she's just not answering. I don't know what's going on.

00:01:28 - 00:01:32 | Speaker 4:

You didn't catfish her in any way, shape, or form, did you? Like you are who you say you are?

00:01:32 - 00:01:35 | Speaker 3:

I am totally me all the time. Okay.

00:01:36 - 00:01:44 | Speaker 4:

No 10-year-old profile pic on Tinder or something? Oh, God. I'm just going through all the boxes. Okay.

00:01:44 - 00:01:49 | Speaker 3:

No, that's okay. I'm fairly certain I didn't do anything. I talked to my best friend and he's like, did you say anything stupid? I'm like, no.

00:01:50 - 00:02:16 | Speaker 4:

Your guy knows you. He knows you. Alright. Yeah, he does. Well, this is great, man. I literally live right across the highway like you could have parked at my house next time. Oh, no way. Let's hope this works out. Can you hang on the line, and then we'll call Ella after this song? Yeah, sure. All right. It's Marcus in the morning. We are doing second date update, and I've got my guy Griffin on the phone. This is so cute. You and Ella went to the Halfman Bay Harbor for your date. What a great idea.

00:02:16 - 00:02:28 | Speaker 3:

It was awesome. And she's like, I mean, I didn't get to say it before, but she's just, I mean, she's awesome, dude. She's like tucking her hair behind her ear when she's listening to me and like you know as soon as she does that or the smell of perfume came

00:02:28 - 00:03:28 | Speaker 4:

off like it's just she's i'm into her all right you dream weaver okay my poor guy we're gonna try to figure this out because i realize she's ghosted let's give her a call and see if we can i'd love to get you a second date this is sound like this was pretty dreamy so let's do this go ahead and mute your phone okay we're gonna call her right now you can listen that. Hello? Hi, I'm looking for Ella. This is Ella. Ella, it's Marcus calling from Star 1013. How are you? I'm good. Good morning. Hi. Do you listen to the show? Every day on my way to work. Okay. I'm sorry. Do you have a minute? Are you working right now? No, I'm good what's up we're doing second date update right now hey oh no am i in trouble no you're the star of the show are you kidding me have you ghosted on a date recently yep okay is griffin

00:03:28 - 00:03:37 | Speaker 2:

uh listening in right now he is griffin are you there okay hey hi yo hey all right i love it when

00:03:37 - 00:03:53 | Speaker 4:

everybody knows what's going on because this makes my job so much easier so ella welcome to oh gee thanks griffith said he had a great time what did did it something did he do so his best friend wants to know if he did something stupid

00:03:53 - 00:04:27 | Speaker 2:

why did you ghost yeah there were like two things that happened that kind of threw me um and you know this day and age it's easier to ghost than to talk to people about things because you don't know what the reaction is going to be when you barely know someone you know but um basically at dinner griffin takes photos of his food uh-huh like from multiple angles like not just a quick shot but like full repositioning like moving my wine glass a quarter inch for symmetry you know it and it kept happening so i like at a certain point i was like am i on a date or am i assisting

00:04:27 - 00:04:51 | Speaker 3:

in like a content shoot you know i got it okay okay can i jump in is it okay sure sure okay the only thing was that the only thing was that it was the lighting in that place and the place had really really good lighting and i figured that i didn't want to waste it i like to take photographs sometimes so i i'm sorry if it was a lot i didn't mean to do so much but i mean i with the lighting like that you can't really waste that i figured griffin you literally sound like you're taking

00:04:51 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 4:

group selfies during girls not out oh my god girl the last stop i mean listen griffin like one photo

00:04:59 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 2:

wouldn't have

00:05:00 - 00:05:10 | Speaker 1:

bothered me but like i like five you know it definitely had a point of like it was too much i just appreciate aesthetics i just oh i get it all right stop talking the lady's not done yet

00:05:10 - 00:05:16 | Speaker 3:

i bet oh sorry i'm getting the vibe she's not done so ella all right was there something else

00:05:16 - 00:06:04 | Speaker 1:

yeah the other thing is maybe me overthinking it a little bit but um when we we like after dinner we went to just like kind of do a walk on the harbor and um griffin we're just like talking about stuff and he brings up that he sleeps with a white noise machine and a fan and a podcast like all playing at the same time and that um you know silence makes his brain get loud so he layers the sound and when he told me that i literally like just stopped walking and i was like all three to go to sleep and you know i just i need quiet to sleep like you know real quiet yeah it's one of those things is like it's not a big deal but like if i'm thinking about like a future with someone that includes like sleepovers so like if it feels like we're not even sleep compatible like right from the start it's just like too much noise you know i don't know griffin are

00:06:04 - 00:06:10 | Speaker 3:

you ever anticipating a sleepover because um okay here's the thing um it's been a while since

00:06:10 - 00:06:28 | Speaker 2:

somebody like slept next to me you know what i mean so the sound thing it developed after i had a breakup and then it just became like a habit and you know if someone's there i don't need all of it i really don't what do you need need one of them okay whichever one will be the least

00:06:28 - 00:06:42 | Speaker 3:

annoying pause pause okay ella can we can you guys are cute so can we work through this somehow ella i'm gonna go back i'm gonna defer to you i mean can you work with this i feel like if we

00:06:42 - 00:07:15 | Speaker 1:

if we can compromise on the podcast maybe i can negotiate the fan but like we got to kill the white noise though okay and then as far as food pictures go let's just be aware of how long the photo shoot goes on for you know like i can live with a photo or two but like if it goes on too long i'm gonna like be blinking aggressively at you okay you know i'm over it how about two max that's it two max so we're good here wisely i can do that i can totally do that so like hold on are

00:07:15 - 00:07:20 | Speaker 2:

we getting a second date? Ella, hey, I'd love to take you out on the second date. If you'd be up

00:07:20 - 00:07:27 | Speaker 1:

for it, I think we'd have a great time. The harbor walk was actually nice. Oh my god, adorable. I'm

00:07:27 - 00:07:36 | Speaker 3:

down for a second date. Oh, you guys. Stand by for the cowbell of destiny. We did it. Dang dong, baby.

00:07:36 - 00:07:44 | Speaker 2:

We did it. Second date. I'll call you right after this, okay? Yes. Okay. So cute.
