Ryan calls in wondering how a night that felt that good could end in radio silence. After drinks in Concord, he felt an easy connection with Brooke — confident, funny, and refreshingly real. They talked about burnout, work stress, and laughed about pretending to have life figured out. Ryan walked away thinking it was a solid hang. Brooke walked away… and never walked back. It's Marcus in the morning. Y'all know what time it is. It's second date update time. Let's bring Ryan on. Ryan, are you there? Hey. Hi, guys. Hey, man. How are you? Big fan of the show. Thanks, bro. Here to help you out, I understand you've been on a date. Her name was Brooke, and you guys met online, was the message that you sent me. So, was this a full ghost?

00:01:04 - 00:01:33 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, it was a full ghost. That's a good way of putting it. What did you guys do on your date? Well, we were in Walnut Creek and had some drinks, you know, and, you know, she was funny, great, good time. We talked, you know, about work and life and dating burnout and laughed about how everyone pretends they're fine when they're really not, you know. And I thought things were going really well, thinking, you know, that was a good hang. Let's do it again. And then. Now, here we are. I don't know.

00:01:33 - 00:01:33 | Speaker 4:

Yeah.

00:01:33 - 00:01:35 | Speaker 2:

She just disappeared.

00:01:36 - 00:01:49 | Speaker 4:

Okay. Well, let's see if we can get her on the phone. I'll call her and then I'll ask her, like, straight up how the date went for her. A, I'd love to get you a second date, but B, I would love to actually just get you some answers. You know what I mean?

00:01:49 - 00:01:56 | Speaker 2:

I would really appreciate it because everything seemed to be going really smooth. and I would go out with her again in a heartbeat.

00:01:56 - 00:02:12 | Speaker 4:

Okay, let's see what we can work out. Let's call her because I want to figure out why she goes. Go ahead and go back on mute, bud. Thank you. Here we go. Hello? Hi, is this Brooke?

00:02:12 - 00:02:13 | Speaker 3:

It is.

00:02:13 - 00:02:17 | Speaker 4:

Hi, Brooke, this is Marcus calling from Star 101.3. Good morning.

00:02:18 - 00:02:19 | Speaker 3:

Hi.

00:02:19 - 00:02:22 | Speaker 4:

Hi. I don't suppose you listen to my show, do you?

00:02:22 - 00:02:23 | Speaker 3:

Sorry, I don't.

00:02:23 - 00:02:49 | Speaker 4:

I'm sorry to wake you up so early. So I do a radio show. We do a segment called Second Date Update. And I got floated your phone number by a guy who took you on a date. His name is Ryan. Okay. He's feeling like maybe you ghosted. And so we're just trying to figure out. I mean, I'll be blunt with, like, what did my guy do? What did he do wrong? It's very assumptive of me, but I'm just assuming something went sideways. Did you ghost?

00:02:50 - 00:02:51 | Speaker 3:

I guess.

00:02:52 - 00:02:52 | Speaker 4:

Okay.

00:02:53 - 00:03:18 | Speaker 3:

There were just two things that kind of stuck with me. I just couldn't shake them. Okay. First, he casually admitted that he doesn't use a top sheet. He just uses like a fitted sheet and a comforter. And he just said like, oh, top sheets are pointless fabric. And, you know, they always end up bunched at the bottom of the bed and create unnecessary laundry. And he said this very confidently. Like, this was a lifestyle choice of his.

00:03:19 - 00:03:24 | Speaker 4:

God, we were just talking about this this morning. Producer Taylor doesn't use one either. But don't most hotels do this?

00:03:24 - 00:03:27 | Speaker 3:

No, there is always a top sheet.

00:03:27 - 00:03:38 | Speaker 4:

I guess the theory would be that, like, they wash them every time we get new guests, which I'm certain Ryan probably does not because he's a dude. So, all right. So there's something else?

00:03:39 - 00:04:11 | Speaker 3:

Yes. Later in the night, he mentioned he sets up, like, multiple alarms every morning. And then he ignores all of them. And he said, I like easing into consciousness. And then he said that eventually his body just wakes up when it's ready. And listen, I know both of these things, when you just take them as one thing, like look at each thing, neither thing is technically wrong. But together, they just kind of create a picture I can't unsee. It just felt like chaos adjacent.

00:04:12 - 00:04:30 | Speaker 4:

That is the most descriptive way I've ever heard somebody explain somebody. Chaos adjacent. Well, so part of this is that Ryan is listening right now. We're trying to, I don't know, I always say we try to use it as a teachable moment. I'm sorry. But, Ryan, are you there?

00:04:31 - 00:04:33 | Speaker 2:

Yeah. Hey, guys, I'm here.

00:04:33 - 00:04:36 | Speaker 4:

So you don't use a top sheet. Is that confirmed?

00:04:36 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, I don't understand entirely why this is a big deal. I sleep hot, you know. Uh-huh. It's just like the top sheet really traps heat. and like this is just about like getting up and going and going to work and going to bed like i don't need to make it complicated and make the bed with the top sheet every day and all the pillows what if i needed to do that right you know like that's just extra speaking of extra

00:05:00 - 00:05:14 | Speaker 4:

alarm thing sounds ridiculous my wife would punch me if I didn't get up when the alarm goes off if I realize you're a solo guy we're trying to get somewhere here right like we're trying to have a lady in our life right I can work on the

00:05:14 - 00:05:44 | Speaker 3:

alarms I understand that that situation you know it's just I know it sounds bad but I still get to work on time I just don't leap out of bed like you know just instantly like I'm in a movie or something I just it's something that like i've had forever i have been single a while i'm not gonna lie so yeah all right i get that it's not the coolest look but it's these are things that i could work on having a woman around consistently and being alone um look i i can see how that looks bad to be real i understand like

00:05:44 - 00:05:51 | Speaker 1:

you're relaxed by this just makes you seem like unmanaged ryan if we look at this from brooke's

00:05:51 - 00:05:58 | Speaker 4:

perspective i'm trying to help you along here if if we're trying to get her to spend the night How about we make a few adjustments? Sure.

00:05:58 - 00:06:09 | Speaker 3:

I'll buy the best top cheese on the planet. I can find the highest thread count, whatever it takes. Like, I'm a good guy. Look, Brooke, I'm teachable. I'm just rusty, right? You know, I'm not trying to scare you off.

00:06:10 - 00:06:16 | Speaker 4:

So, Brooke, I feel like we're making some progress. Can we get to a second date with this? Can we get a do-over?

00:06:16 - 00:06:23 | Speaker 1:

I mean, I don't need perfection. I just need effort and clean sheets. But I would give it another date.

00:06:24 - 00:06:25 | Speaker 3:

Yes, it's happening.

00:06:25 - 00:06:28 | Speaker 1:

Oh, my God, I wasn't even ready. Hold on.

00:06:28 - 00:06:31 | Speaker 3:

Yes, done. Fresh seats, no arms.

00:06:31 - 00:06:33 | Speaker 4:

And the cowbell of destiny is rung.

00:06:36 - 00:06:52 | Speaker 2:

You say you'll never join the Navy.

00:06:56 - 00:07:12 | Speaker 5:

That you'd never track storms brewing in the Atlantic. And skydiving could never be part of your commute. You'd never climb Mount Fuji on a port visit. Or fly so fast, you break the sound barrier.

Joining the Navy sounds crazy. Saying never actually is. Start your journey at Navy.com. America's Navy, forged by the sea.
