This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

Alan Lee, my major is drafting and design. In high school, I did it since my sophomore year, and I kind of wanted to continue it. It was the only thing I was good at. I didn't want to move to a four-year. I don't think I'm mentally prepared. I found Bishop State. They had the program. I met a few people there. I ended up enrolling. The instructor, first day I met him, I told him about my background. He said, okay, great. You know about this. He built me straight to work. He didn't let me have any leeway. He pushed me to my limits. So I think that made me choose drafting design at Bishop State and stuck with it. The sport's amazing. All my instructors just want to see me succeed. They want to push me to my limit. They want to see me be the best I can be, get a job, just be as successful as I can be. And I really appreciate all of them. With my degree, As of right now, my plan is to work for the city of Mobile with their urban planning department. And I've already got a job shadow before, and hopefully I will end the ship over the summer. If you choose Bishop, we're welcome to have you any day.

We have the nicest Christmas tree. And the reason why it's so nice, Chelsea just told me the other day that we're not decorating it. We're just going to keep the lights on and keep it looking nice.

I have one with nothing on it. It's the best. literally just a plain tree right now the other one's all decorated lights ornaments we let the kids do that one the one that i was supposed to decorate is still bare she decorated like the

mantle and stuff over the fireplace and it looks really really pretty so there's a whole bunch of stuff and then i said to her i go hey do you know do you want me to bring up the the ornaments and stuff she goes no we're gonna do ornament free i'm like oh this is the greatest so basically it's like we have like a tree lamp in our living room and i love it i actually almost want to keep it year-round because it gives us such great lighting you know yeah uh but uh sometimes people like to me do christmas tastefully i think this is tastefully i think there are some that do way

overboard on christmas you know my friends justin and dr matt um i love them yeah they're the best

i've never met them uh i feel like you have i feel like you've met justin really justin a quick little shout out because he showed up to my appearance this weekend just to bring me coffee like reached out to Shannon asked what I would like I've never met him in person until this

weekend nicest guy in the world these are my friends who one is a pastry chef one is a dermatologist and they threw a party to celebrate their stairs being finished I've talked about them before okay so he Justin sends me a picture a couple of days ago of himself and Matt and they're in front of a Christmas tree and I was like oh my gosh it's so cute you guys are so cute you cut down your christmas tree it is a 16 footer a 16 foot christmas tree now let me say something to you their house has very normal ceilings so i'm like where are you putting a 16 foot christmas tree they're basically putting it at the bottom of this the stairs that they threw a party for recently because the stairs got there's like one spot where the downstairs yeah It goes, like, up through the upstairs, and that's where they just want a huge Christmas tree. So they got a 16-foot Christmas tree.

First of all, Justin, you're insane. Second of all, put it in the living room like a normal person and make it bend like that Grinch tree. It would have to bend in half.

Hold on. Justin is on with us right now. Justin. Hi. How are you? It's a very good. Merry Christmas. This is a very big Christmas tree. Where do you find a tree that big?

Actually, the only place that carries something that big is a place in Ann Arbor called, it's like Jim and Virgil's, I think it is. It's a little street side, you know, kind of a dumpy tree farm kind of place. And for some reason, they're the only one.

Did you have to, like, bring it in through the sliding door? How did you get it actually through the door?

Well, luckily, we have double doors. So we open both of them up. And then I've got the tip of the tree, and I walk it up the stairs, and then Matt just kind of sinks it into the base.

Oh, my God. That's crazy.

You guys.

You're actually insane.

And I think it was actually 18 feet. We actually had to cut a lot of the base off, and then we had to cut the tip off because the star wouldn't fit.

Oh, my God. That's craziness to have a tree that big.

Do you have to, like, walk around it, or do you have enough room to move around a thing? Sometimes I see people that get big trees, and you can't move around it.

You definitely can't go to the right of the tree. Shannon, when you walk into the house, to the right, you can't get past it, like, into the kitchen.

So you have to walk all the way around, then, to get into their kitchen and dining room. But it's worth it.

Bethany, don't you want to see a picture of an 18-foot Christmas tree? What's going on?

oh i was just letting you know that i made a tree lamp because i like the christmas tree light so much i bought a ficus and put christmas lights on it in my basement what i was talking

about about having the nice lighting that we have during christmas time it is true i did exactly that that is yeah yeah hot wait justin because you know a real tree like that doesn't come pre-lit But how long did it take you guys to wrap, like, lights around that thing?

It's pretty much a three-day process. We do the lights, and then we do all of the ornaments and, like, the ribbon. We do it, like, for garland. Oh, man. So I think last year when we counted the ornaments coming down, when we took the tree down, it was probably, like, 350 ornaments.

materica terry lamell and my major is general education some of the obstacles i have overcame at bishop state is proving that i can show up consistently even when my life was heavy there are moments where I still feel overwhelmed by balancing work, leadership, parenting, and school, but Bishop reminded me that I'm capable of growth and not perfection, that I'm supported as long as I'm committed to being a better person than I was yesterday. My peers can depend on me. I'm there being poured into, but some of those students don't know that the faculty and staff are really there for them. So when they don't know that, I'm their resource that explain and show them that They're here to help us.
