This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

00:01:07 - 00:01:52 | Speaker 3:

Allen Lee, my major is drafting and design. In high school, I did it since my sophomore year, and I kind of wanted to continue it. It was the only thing I was good at. I didn't want to move to a four-year. I don't think I was mentally prepared. I found Bishop State. They had the program. I met a few people there. I ended up enrolling. The instructor, first day I met him, I told him about my background. He said, okay, great, you know about this. He built me straight to work. He didn't let me have any leeway. He pushed me to my limits. So I think that made me choose drafting design at Bishop State and stuck with it. The sport's amazing. All my instructors just want to see me succeed. They want to push me to my limit. They want to see me be the best I can be, get a job, just be as successful as I can be. And I really appreciate all of them. With my degree, as of right now, my plan is to work for the city of Mobile with their urban planning department. And I've already got a job shadow before, and hopefully I will internship over the summer. If you choose Bishop, we're welcome to have you any day.

John, what's happening? Another day. I like it. Let's live life like it's another day on Five Lies to Tell Your Mom. That's right. You ready for this? Yep. I'm excited, yes. You may not live another day after this Five Lies to Tell Your Mom. We're going to come up with...

00:02:23 - 00:02:29 | Speaker 6:

No, I really think she's going to murder me and my sister's husband at the same time, to be honest. Wait, you're okay.

00:02:29 - 00:02:41 | Speaker 5:

I like this. Five lies. We've made up five lies. I want the listeners to think Guy lives today. We're Garden City, Michigan, right? Yep. Yep. Your mom is a little bit of a hoarder, we understand.

00:02:42 - 00:02:48 | Speaker 6:

She's got that problem, but it's a working progress is what I'm going to say.

00:02:48 - 00:02:56 | Speaker 5:

All right, so we have an idea for her. Lie number one, you're going to say, Mom, I'm having a garage sale next weekend. Lie number two.

00:02:56 - 00:02:59 | Speaker 7:

Say Nick wants me to come over and take some stuff out of the house.

00:03:00 - 00:03:16 | Speaker 5:

Okay. Lie number three. I don't want you there for any of it. Lie number four. Nick says you're an old hoarder hoe. Quote, unquote. Okay. Wow. And lie number five.

00:03:16 - 00:03:20 | Speaker 7:

We already have somebody to buy all of the Beanie Babies.

00:03:21 - 00:03:44 | Speaker 6:

Is that a thing? Is that really? Yeah, my mom's got a whole bunch. She's been collecting them ever since they were huge, like, you know, 30 years ago. So these are her prized possessions. I mean, I would say more, like, precious moments are, but I know she's got totes of them. So to take something from her and tell her, like, oh, someone already put a deposit down for herself. She's going to freak out.

00:03:45 - 00:03:46 | Speaker 5:

Oh, yeah.

00:03:46 - 00:03:46 | Speaker 7:

Okay.

00:03:46 - 00:03:49 | Speaker 5:

All right, here we go. Five lies tell your mom. Speak up nice and loud.

00:03:54 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 6:

hello hey mom what's going on nothing uh you busy not what you need nothing uh i wanted to ask you some questions uh me and aaron have been talking about what we're going to do this week and the next weekend and uh we were talking about having a garage sale are you okay with that Absolutely. I have to, Friday morning, I'm supposed to be going to Ann Farbs to work. Well, it's fine. I don't want you. Saturday night, I have to pull. Sunday, we're going to the senior. Mom, you don't have to do any of it. I don't want you part of it all. Me and Erin kind of have a whole plan involved about what we're going to do. Yeah, that's fine. That's fine. I was talking to Nick last weekend when I came over about how I was working on my car and stuff. And he told me I can come over and take some stuff in the house. he's got stuff and he figured uh you would be okay with it and uh you wouldn't have a problem with it for what like stuff that sells the garage sale like all your garage sale stuff are you crazy

00:05:00 - 00:05:44 | Speaker 1:

I'm having a garage sale, John. I don't have a job. Are you having one next weekend? Can I take some stuff on my own? Everything. I have stuff, too. That's what I said. I know you typically do it on Memorial weekend. But, yeah, like I said, you don't need to be there. I don't want you to hurt yourself. You don't push yourself. Don't worry about it. I'll take care of everything. I don't mind coming and hanging out, but, you know. No, I don't need you. It's okay. I'll let you know if I do, but I'll be fine. mm-hmm okay so so on that note um you know me and nick were making a joke and uh he mentioned that uh he i figured you'd wanted to know uh he basically called you an old hoarder hoe

00:05:44 - 00:05:54 | Speaker 4:

you know you're like what that's how i make my money honey that's you know now i don't have i

00:05:54 - 00:06:20 | Speaker 1:

I know, I know you're disabled and you got, I know, and you're not babies. Yeah, I understand that. I understand money's tight. I totally get that. But I'm having a big sale at Uncle Jim's the first Saturday, the first weekend in June. All right. So my other question to you is, you still got a whole bunch of Beanie Babies? Because I got a guy, Aaron's friend, someone from work, I don't know, is looking for him for his kid. And I knew you had, like, totes of them, so he already, like, gave him a hundred bucks. Yeah, but I don't know where they are.

00:06:20 - 00:06:28 | Speaker 4:

I don't have totes of them. You don't? What? I don't have toast of them anymore. I've sold a lot of them, but I do have some.

00:06:28 - 00:06:31 | Speaker 1:

Oh, and Jennifer told me that you had something, like, in the basement or something. I don't know.

00:06:32 - 00:06:37 | Speaker 4:

There's so much shit in the basement, John. You can't even fucking move. I don't even know what's down there. Okay, man.

00:06:37 - 00:06:43 | Speaker 1:

Because I can't get to anything. It's ridiculous. You know, that's why I just wanted to know.

00:06:43 - 00:06:51 | Speaker 4:

That's why I'm over, because I got everybody else's shit at my house. Well, you don't have any of my stuff. No, I don't mean yours.

00:06:51 - 00:07:06 | Speaker 1:

his wife his two kids you know yeah i mean you do you do tend to go to uh other like help out other people and bring home stuff always but that's besides because i always have to have

00:07:06 - 00:07:31 | Speaker 4:

stuff to have a garage sale right john who you calling because you need stuff for a garage sale guess what jack you've got it that's true that's true you can't have a garage sale if you don't have s**t, so if you're going to donate it, I take it first and try and sell it, and then I donate it. But I keep the good s**t, because you've got to have s**t to sell s**t, and believe me, I've got this s**t, so for sure you can have some stuff.

00:07:31 - 00:07:42 | Speaker 2:

You got it. You got that s**t, don't you? Too much s**t. Lots of s**t. So much s**t, you don't know what to do with it all. No.

00:07:43 - 00:07:44 | Speaker 4:

Who am I talking to?

00:07:44 - 00:07:48 | Speaker 2:

Hey, how you doing, Jacqueline? This is Mojo from Mojo in the Morning.

00:07:49 - 00:07:50 | Speaker 4:

Okay.

00:07:51 - 00:08:10 | Speaker 2:

And you had, your son, John, had you on Five Lies to Tell Your Mom. On Five Lies to Tell Mom, okay. I think we got a professional garage sailor here. She's not a hoarder, ho. She's a professional garage sailor.

00:08:10 - 00:08:19 | Speaker 4:

That's right. All my life, I have been a single mom, and I work for the school, so you're off in the summer, and you've got to make money.

00:08:19 - 00:08:26 | Speaker 2:

That's right. That's smart. And a smoker, I understand, probably, right? No.

00:08:28 - 00:08:35 | Speaker 4:

She had a mouth like a sailor, too. I don't normally. I don't talk like that. You ask my son, he'll tell you.

00:08:35 - 00:08:36 | Speaker 2:

Oh, sure.

00:08:36 - 00:08:44 | Speaker 4:

I have to defend myself when people call me a hoarder. I'm not a hoarder, but believe me, I got to sh** myself.

00:08:46 - 00:08:52 | Speaker 2:

Hey, Mom, we got a prize for Mom for being on Five Lies to tell your mom. We just want to know, is it going to make it at your garage sale?

00:08:55 - 00:09:07 | Speaker 4:

You guys should come to my garage sale. You know, people stop. I live on a main road, okay? People, I don't have to put a sign out, and I don't have one table out. I have 25 or 30 tables. Holy crap. For everybody.

00:09:07 - 00:09:09 | Speaker 2:

She's a flea market lady. This is unbelievable.

00:09:10 - 00:09:18 | Speaker 4:

She's got the shit. I have a flea market, but you know what? I have to move everything. That's right. Why do I got to do it when I live on a main street and I got all the advertisement I want?

00:09:18 - 00:09:20 | Speaker 2:

I like it. Well, congratulations.

00:09:20 - 00:09:21 | Speaker 4:

Everybody drives up and down the street.

00:09:22 - 00:09:27 | Speaker 2:

Congratulations on winning the prize here. We'll set you up with that, okay? That's great. Thank you.

This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

00:10:42 - 00:11:27 | Speaker 2:

My name is Patrick Pettway, and I am getting my Associates of Science and General Education with an emphasis in business administration. To me, it was a no-brainer. When you go out here and you're looking for funding to go back to college as a 40-year-old man, I got six people in my household. The extra money just doesn't just grow out of trees. For me to be able to be accepted through FAFSA and to have Bishop State pay for all of my tuition, not only that, but the curriculums, you know, they make it so easy to understand on their website. Like I said, I'm a 40-year-old man, so I don't use technology too much, but it was very understandable where I needed to go. It was extremely fast these past two years. Things have just moved in a total different type of way. It's like its own moving entity to see things manifest the way that they do.
