This might be the next Spike doing phone scams, this kid. We've got to find out what his future holds for him. He's only six years old. Kid's a Macomb County kid. His name is Mason. And after Mason did what he did on his dad's phone, I think that dad's going to put a phone lock on there. This kid's never going to be able to play a game ever again on this thing. I'm going to play you this story. This is our friends over at Local 4 WDIV in Detroit. And, oh, Kim DiGiulio. I love Kim DiGiulio, doing the report on Mason and his $1,000 Grubhub orders.

It was around 9 p.m. on Saturday night when a couple from Chesterfield received an order from Oconee Island on their doorstep. Then a few minutes after that, another order, then another.

By the way, this sounds to me like the greatest day ever.

I was going to say, this is my dream Saturday night.

That's when they realized something wasn't right.

And time after time again, and it's piles and bags of food, and what is going on? And they're dropping them off at the door, so I'm not communicating with the drivers.

Keith and Kristen Stonehouse had no idea who could have ordered all of this food until Keith eventually stopped one of the Grubhub drivers.

And I said, what is going on? Why are you bringing me food? He said, I don't know, you ordered from the Shorma place. No. Oh.

That's when it clicked. He let his 6-year-old son, Mason, play with his phone before his bedtime.

I think I left the app open, and he saw that when he was playing with my phone and just started going to town. So he ordered multiple orders, chili cheese fries, the chicken pita wraps.

He ordered multiple orders of that. By the way, I've got to ask this question when the mom's on with us here in a second, the mom and dad. I wonder if he put in the comment section things.

Like, you know, hold the salt.

their bank stopped some of it and then I get an alert on my phone my card has been declined for fraud from a pizza place for four hundred and thirty nine

So he grabbed his piggy bank and showed him all this money that comes out from the piggy bank one by one. That was this. That was this bag of food. That was this. And you could see his face, you know.

I think it sunk in when we were actually taking his money to try to pay back some of it just as like a lesson. I'm like, I know what this money in your piggy bank means to you.

Yeah, actually, I didn't find out about any of it until I got home, which was after the dust had kind of settled a little bit.

Yeah, okay. So, Dad. Now, I know how I am as a dad. Chelsea is the one that my wife always is the one that talks me off the ledge on things. Uh, was, uh, was your husband supposed to be talked off the ledge? Was Keith, uh, uh, still a little upset?

I mean, yeah, he was, I had come home from a movie night with a friend of mine and he was kind of, uh, like, where's your cell phone? Did you lose it? I was like, um, no, what, why? He goes, well, the ring doorbell kept going off and I kept calling you. I said, oh, I thought it was Mason, because I did get a phone call from him as the movie was starting, and then I answered it, and I was like, I'm in a movie. I can't talk right now. So I hung up, and then the phone kept ringing and ringing and ringing, and I just ignored it. He's like, well, I was trying to call you. I go, oh, I'm sorry. Yeah, and then he explained to me everything that happened. I was like, okay. And then at that point, because I hadn't eaten dinner yet, I was like, so where's the shrimp?

I love it.

I was going to say, a little bit has got to be kind of nice to come home after a girl's night and have some snacks. Yeah. I mean, at that point, it was almost 10 o'clock. I was starving. I was a little hangry. I'm like, okay, I don't even care. Where's the food?

Kristen, I have so many questions about this. First off, the video is hysterical. You can see it up on our story on Instagram, Mojo in the Morning, but you see your ring cam, and one after another after another, these Grubhub drivers are coming to the house. Did Mason tip appropriately?

Yeah, so apparently the Grubhub app has a feature where it automatically tips 25% if you don't change it. oh he's a big spender driver 25 oh my god you kept your economy going i feel like this is a good

thing so it's wild because at one point i think uh the bank actually sent you guys a fraud alert for one you know four hundred dollars worth of pizza or whatever but that wasn't enough for grubhub to flag it and say maybe somebody shouldn't be doing all these different orders

because they just let the food keep coming yeah yeah i don't think because it's not monitored by An actual person it's just an App so yeah yeah you know that's Some logistics that maybe need to be worked out

Well you know that's true because Kristen I was thinking like well they Should notice if you're ordering from 20 different restaurants In an hour and all that food's gone but then I was thinking there's probably nights Mojo's done that Oh I have believe me

has the app on his floor anymore oh but the kids will find it they'll go they'll swipe three pages deep and find an app you didn't know you still had because i the funny thing is if i could get

a hold of like my dad's you know grubhub account all everything would be milkshakes it would be you know uh candy pizza like if i'm six years old that's what i'm ordering the kids ordering shawarma

he's a pretty avid reader he started reading fiction novels like harry potter since the age of three so he he knew exactly what he was ordering so he could read wow that's crazy all

All right, so Mason, did he get punished for this, or what did you guys do?

Yeah, but no, we took away his tablet. My husband actually did take his piggy bank and made him pay back some of it. My gosh. It's funny because he had $115 in there, and then literally maybe 20 minutes after my husband took away his money, he found a penny on the floor. He's like, look, I have a penny And you put it in his piggy bank He's always the brighter side of things

I feel like Grubhub Needs to get a hold of this thing And Grubhub needs to make this A Super Bowl commercial This is the greatest Or we need to start a GoFundMe account

Hey, I had a fast food nightmare. Me and a couple buddies were sitting in his basement watching football, and I decided to get on the Hungry Howie's app and order a pizza. Nothing out of the normal. uh did everything on the app ordered it um went to process payment pushed you know accept or go or whatever and then it something popped up said unable to process so i redid it again pushed accept again uh same thing popped up unable to process so i was like all right this is weird so i did it like five more times well then i just had this weird gut feeling i checked my bank account and they checked and there was like 275 dollars worth of pizza ordered oh my gosh wow yeah so i immediately called my wife and was like i didn't do this i didn't do this i called hungry howie's and i freaked out and they were like we don't have one of these orders pizza we don't have one order from you huh so we don't the app was freaking out that's interesting

that has nothing to do with our story but thank you so much i don't know why you're even on hold Kristen's back with us. Mom's back with us.

The problem is that now these apps look like games, and it's so easy to get sucked in thinking, especially for little kids pushing buttons, it just looks fun. And I remember last year we did a story about a little 2-year-old who ordered 31 cheeseburgers from DoorDash. And it just seems like now everything blends from useful apps to game and entertainment, so I could see where the kids would just keep hitting buttons, not realizing it's costing money.

Kristen, listen to John's story here. As a dad, he had a similar situation happen to him. What did, John, what did your son do?

So I was at the Michigan State football game. My son FaceTimed me, and he said, hey, Dad, can I get 400 Robux? And I was like, you're at Mom's house. You got to ask Mom. He's like, oh, okay, bet. So I go back. I enjoy the game. I wake up at 10 o'clock the next morning to 122 emails. So I started adding everything up He bought $3,500 Of Robux Wow So I called his mom I was like yeah take Kyle's iPad Away like ASAP

That's crazy It can happen These kids man But no chicken shawarma In that order

You're right though How great would it be to take that entire order and make it into, like, a Super Bowl commercial or a Super Bowl party with just that food that she ordered. Like, that would be great.

Oh, yeah. My husband did get a call from them last night. And apparently they have an appointment to have another phone call today. Okay.

You know what's amazing about this? My wife just picked this up She said, this is exactly what happens When a mom tries to go on a girls' night And leaves dad home with her son It's so true My kids have had to go to the emergency room when mom has been out on girls' nights.

Actually, yes. Us, too, because he has epilepsy.

And many times I've gone out on girls' nights, and he's had seizures. And I've had to come home early and go to the emergency room.
