00:02:34 - 00:03:43 | Speaker 4:

thing happen to me yesterday that I would like to bring up right now, but it may cause some problems. But if it's okay, I'm going to do it right now because I contemplated when I was putting topics together for today's show, do I talk about alligator arms? Do you know my friend alligator arms? My friend alligator arms is an amazing guy he looks like this he's like that he got the little armies I was invited to lunch by a guy who asked if he could go out with me to lunch he said he said hey can we go to lunch together I want to show you a new business thing that I'm doing and I want to get your open and honest opinion on whether or not you think people would be into this and so we ended up meeting up from lunch after I got done with our taping and editing and all that stuff yesterday. And we had a very nice lunch. He showed me the stuff. It was actually pretty interesting and I think it will do well and I won't say exactly what it is yet because it's obviously not unveiled yet. And then he exposed his alligator arms.

00:03:44 - 00:03:47 | Speaker 2:

I did not know what alligator arms was until this moment.

00:03:47 - 00:03:49 | Speaker 4:

You did not know what alligator arms was?

00:03:49 - 00:03:49 | Speaker 2:

Now I know.

00:03:51 - 00:04:05 | Speaker 4:

So we're sitting there hanging out, and mind you, I spend an hour and a half or so with this guy, and the bill comes, and the waitress puts the bill down on the table, and I am always quick to just grab the bill.

00:04:06 - 00:04:10 | Speaker 2:

You sometimes do it, and truly, I don't even know that the bill has come. You're slick.

00:04:10 - 00:04:57 | Speaker 4:

You guys get mad at me at times, which honestly, I do it because of one particular reason. One is, I buy my friends. no i do it because i always hate the fight over everybody trying to split bills so i'm like you know what i'll just pick up the damn bill whatever okay so this bill comes and i say to myself self he invited you for a purpose of showing you something he was going to take your time you know to to show you this thing so the bill comes it sits there on the table and we're hanging and we're hanging and i'm like i really want to go but he hasn't made an effort to go pick up the tab and do anything with the tab so i'm like okay what do i do what do i do i sat there and then he goes i gotta go to the bathroom and he's like what's that i'm sorry oh you're talking to her okay

00:04:57 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 2:

continue the story okay

00:05:00 - 00:05:06 | Speaker 6:

I thought I said something that I shouldn't say. Is alligator arms something that is now offensive? Will I get in trouble for that?

00:05:06 - 00:05:07 | Speaker 7:

Your audio is low on the live.

00:05:08 - 00:05:09 | Speaker 6:

Oh, the audio is low on the live.

00:05:10 - 00:05:12 | Speaker 7:

So I actually said... Please don't.

00:05:13 - 00:05:16 | Speaker 3:

I just know one headphone user was like, damn!

00:05:17 - 00:05:59 | Speaker 6:

So he got up and went to the bathroom. And I sat there while he was going to the bathroom. And I'm like going, all right, what do I do? And it got me thinking, because I have not dated in forever. Chelsea and I have been married for a long time, and we got together a long time ago. I have not been able to be alive and dating when there's been things like Venmos and stuff. What do you do when you, and I had no cash on me, which sucked. If I had cash, I would have put money down and just done it. But what do you have to do if you're on a date? Do you wait for the other person to say, hey, let's split it? Or do you say, let's split it? I was trying to figure that out. I'm thinking, well, I don't think I should split it. I think he should be taking me on a date.

00:05:59 - 00:06:11 | Speaker 2:

Well, that's what I was going to say, because I want to reiterate that part, unless I misunderstood you. This was a meeting for something that he wanted to talk to you about. So in that case, I feel like he should be paid.

00:06:11 - 00:06:13 | Speaker 6:

Just clear. That's what I thought, too.

00:06:13 - 00:06:17 | Speaker 2:

You're like paying for the advice with a meal and a good time. You are doing something kind for him.

00:06:17 - 00:06:40 | Speaker 6:

Yeah. Honestly, that's what I kind of thought, too. And so I'm trying to figure this thing out. I'm trying to think of what do I do, and I'm uncomfortable. Finally, he comes back from the bathroom. He sits down, and the check is literally sitting right in front of us. And the waitress kept coming back to fill up our waters and then even said, is there anything else I can get you? When a waiter or a waitress comes back three times and says, is there anything else I can get you?

00:06:40 - 00:06:53 | Speaker 4:

That's basically a cue for get the F out of my seat. And from his vantage point, he thought when he went to the bathroom, by the time he came back, you would have already paid. I think that's what he was thinking. He was shocked when he sat down and the bill was still there.

00:06:53 - 00:07:10 | Speaker 6:

Yeah. So finally, I pull out my wallet, and I put my credit card down, and Alligator Arms did nothing. And he goes, oh, man, thanks. I'll get the next one. I'm like, oh, that's bull crap. You are such a load of crap. I don't believe anything. There's a jet stream of bulls**t coming out of your mouth, my friend.

00:07:11 - 00:07:11 | Speaker 1:

You are busted.

00:07:11 - 00:07:29 | Speaker 6:

Yeah. I thought, there's no way he's going to. He should have picked up this one. So I asked this question of you, guys. What do you do if you're out with friends or whatever? How do you do this? when you or if you're out with somebody do you just say hey i'm gonna pay my do should i verbalized

00:07:29 - 00:08:08 | Speaker 4:

it or what should i said um there's so many factors we just went this just happened to us because kp myself zach and lydia all went out because i wanted to get the dollar marks at applebee's which they they first off the lady didn't want to give them to us she said it's it's low-key a secret it's not on the menu because we're not supposed to serve them then they cap you at three which is a whole nother literally just passed an applebee's the other day and there was sign a sign for it yes there was signage for it she was on something from the time we set out um but i did like i wanted to pay for everybody everybody like no and then multiple cards come out everybody got a split you have to verbalize it though yeah

00:08:08 - 00:08:35 | Speaker 5:

yeah it's so funny dollar marks i got everybody's drinks Yeah. Four drinks? Yeah, for sure. Four dollars? Yeah. Oh, there's a big shot over there. I got a damn margarita. Who wants a margarita? I didn't say we was balling. I just said I'll buy y'all drinks. That's all I said. KB, I didn't even think about that. That's all I said. That's so funny. I got you all. So I can only pay when it costs $12? Oh, my God. What's going on?

00:08:35 - 00:09:10 | Speaker 3:

Ungrateful, bastards. One year, we went to Vegas for the I Heart Radio Music Festival, and you guys were all so very kind and everybody was picking up every bill and nobody would let me pay for anything and you feel like a leech. At a certain point, you feel terrible and I don't want to go to dinner with you. If I'm not going to pay for something, it feels like I'm the sympathy invite around here, guys. Remember when we went to the Taco Bell cantina and I had to fight for the bill and I literally yelled out, this is the only time I'm going to be able to afford a meal for everybody. Please let me find this one. That was so funny.

00:09:11 - 00:09:22 | Speaker 6:

Oh, that's funny. I remember that. By the way, KP might have had the greatest comedic timing on that. If that doesn't become a promo for Kevin, I want it to be a promo. What's up, Angela? How you doing?

00:09:23 - 00:09:27 | Speaker 7:

Hi. First time, long time. Hey there. Yeah, Angela on the phone.

00:09:27 - 00:09:28 | Speaker 6:

What's going on?

00:09:30 - 00:09:48 | Speaker 7:

So I've had this situation before, and I'm kind of awkward when it comes to that. So I've started seeing, like, oh, would you like me to Venmo you my portion? or I can pick it up and if you guys want just demo me whenever you have the money so that way like you're not outright asking for it right there but kind of giving them a wedge in to pay for their part.

00:09:49 - 00:09:54 | Speaker 6:

I should have probably done it and just said hey why don't we split this I should have just thrown that down and said hey why don't we just

00:09:54 - 00:09:54 | Speaker 7:

just want to split it

00:09:54 - 00:09:57 | Speaker 6:

yeah let's just split it Ashton what's going on?

00:09:58 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 7:

How you guys doing this morning?

00:10:00 - 00:10:02 | Speaker 5:

Doing all right, buddy. What's happening? You sound tired.

00:10:04 - 00:10:24 | Speaker 1:

Just a little bit. Just a little bit. But so I got two friends in the NBA G League and one friend in the NFL. And whenever I hang out with them, I don't even, like, offer to pay for anything. They're paying for it, and that's just that. But if I hang out with, like, some of my regular friends, I'll...

00:10:24 - 00:10:25 | Speaker 3:

My regular?

00:10:28 - 00:10:37 | Speaker 5:

Different tax bracket. I like that, though, man. You know what? The NFL guy probably is making the most. The G League guys, do they make, like, legit contracts?

00:10:38 - 00:10:40 | Speaker 1:

I mean, they make enough. They make more than me.

00:10:41 - 00:10:45 | Speaker 5:

Yeah. I like, though, that. Make those people pay. What's going on, Shea? Hi.

00:10:46 - 00:10:47 | Speaker 3:

Hey, good morning.

00:10:48 - 00:10:48 | Speaker 5:

Morning.

00:10:49 - 00:10:58 | Speaker 3:

So, no, I think you totally should have said something, like, ask the waitress to split the bill or something. Screw that guy. What's he doing? He's literally trying to take advantage of you.

00:10:58 - 00:11:11 | Speaker 5:

Hey, you know what? honestly i i don't want to make it weird but i thought for sure he's asking me out why am i the one you know uh angie what's up it's mojo in the morning hey guys good morning morning i've done

00:11:11 - 00:11:48 | Speaker 2:

two things like i'll look at i'll look towards the bill and i'll say what's my half and then that usually sparks the oh i got it or i said hey i'll pay the tip how much is the bill so either one of those have usually gotten me out of anything what do you do if they say okay pay that do you go ah crap damn well kind of inside but you still kind of have to say and then you can make the comment like well the next one's totally on you since you invited me out so i've had friends tell me that like well you invited me so it's you know you're paying or i i'm assuming you're paying the bill since you invited you know to that effect but yeah usually one of those two

00:11:48 - 00:12:06 | Speaker 5:

things work yeah um i i do think that venmo has made it or cash apps you know or zells have made it so much nicer that you could say hey why don't you just zell me or why don't you just venmo me um what's up ryan how you doing hey what's going on how you guys doing good what's going on with

00:12:06 - 00:12:20 | Speaker 4:

you hey yeah i was just gonna say man um when you guys gonna sit down just tell the waitress off rip that you guys need separate checks you know that way it makes it easier for her they gotta try to split it later on and i mean it just puts it right then and there you know so you would

00:12:20 - 00:12:23 | Speaker 5:

you ever do that on a date like if you sat down with a date would you ever say hey why don't you

00:12:23 - 00:12:30 | Speaker 4:

do separate checks no no not a date i mean but you were going like with a it sounds like a friend

00:12:30 - 00:12:35 | Speaker 5:

yeah well yeah it was it was like a business acquaintance yeah right right right yeah you

00:12:35 - 00:12:43 | Speaker 4:

just you know we'll just take separate checks i mean i haven't yet to hear someone say no we're not gonna do so you know like who's gonna say that yeah usually what they'll say is they'll say

00:12:43 - 00:13:02 | Speaker 5:

hey no no no i got this one like that's what i was kind of expecting and i and i'm telling you i really don't i don't want to sound like i'm being cheap on this one because i really honestly hate that. I hate when people legitimately are cheap. But I was expecting the guy the entire time to go pick this thing up. Let's go back to the margaritas and the $1 margaritas and the

00:13:02 - 00:13:18 | Speaker 6:

big spender over here. Look, I offered to pay for the whole meal. Money bags, money bags. I offered to pay. Did I not offer to pay for the whole meal? Yeah, you're nice. Alright, there we go. And we said no. But it's funnier for the dollar margarita. By the way, do they have Dan Campbell stuff all over the place there too? Hell nah. No? I just had a mean waitress.

00:13:18 - 00:13:20 | Speaker 8:

Let me ask you this, bro. She was

00:13:20 - 00:13:39 | Speaker 6:

me to only kevin look at this tell me tell me if i'm wrong i come in i automatically know we want dollar margaritas so when she come over i'm like we want to get the dollar margaritas like immediately i'm thinking i'm helping her out because you don't have to do the whole what do you guys want to order she get an attitude yeah like well hold on a second i'm like they

00:13:39 - 00:13:50 | Speaker 8:

got oh yeah they tipping i was shook i was she literally looked at what was her reasoning of on a second and i i was floored because i mean kevin's nice to everybody yeah she was just like

00:13:50 - 00:13:54 | Speaker 5:

straight out of the bed like shut up what was her reason of not wanting to do dollar margaritas if

00:13:54 - 00:14:02 | Speaker 7:

that was their promotion that's a thing no no she had to do her spiel didn't she like i'm not defending her she should have said it nicer but when i worked in a similar style of restaurant

00:14:02 - 00:14:11 | Speaker 8:

if you didn't give the spiel at the beginning you got in trouble did she have a spiel i don't think she did wait what do you mean she was just like not about having to serve right now for okay so

00:14:11 - 00:14:25 | Speaker 7:

at the time there were cubes that were on the table and on the cubes there were like four different promos and you greeted the table you would go over the promo items say check that out while I get your drinks what can I get for you? There's a way to promote different deals going on

00:14:25 - 00:14:28 | Speaker 8:

Can I just say when I used to work at Olga's Kitchen

00:14:28 - 00:14:31 | Speaker 7:

If somebody came in they're like I want the Unlimited and you just literally want to die the second they say it because it's just Unlimited non-stop every five minutes it's the worst so i get it i get it when somebody comes in they want the

00:14:50 - 00:14:54 | Speaker 7:

they want the dollar marks but how do they how do they sound when they order it on lemonade

For years, The Unhoused has been presented as a monolith in mainstream media. Weedian House is a podcast that's changing the narrative. I'm Theo Henderson, and I created the show while I was unhoused on the streets of Los Angeles. We've grown into a two-time Webby Award winning podcast. We've all been there. We've had seasons that have shaken everything. The question is, what remains when the shaking stops? Hi, I'm Gary Valenciano, and on my podcast, Unshaken with Gary Vee, I sit down with amazing personalities and we talk about the seasons that nearly broke them.
