The World Cup is underway and it's been incredible. On our podcast, The Away End, with Daniel Alarcon and John Green, we're talking about the games that have delighted us, the teams that have inspired us, what we're loving and what surprised us, all through the lens of being massive fans of the world's most beautiful game.

00:00:59 - 00:01:13 | Speaker 11:

Daniel, this tournament has been magical so far. There's so much to love, and I can hardly believe the drama that the group stage brought us. And now it's time for us to talk about the teams that are left as the field is whittled down to one World Cup champion on July 19th.

00:01:13 - 00:01:20 | Speaker 3:

have to say. My name is Patrick Pettway and I am getting my Associates of Science and General Education with an emphasis in business administration. To me, it was a no-brainer. When you go out here and you're looking for funding to go back to college as a 40-year-old man, I got six people in my household. The extra money just doesn't just grow out of trees. For me to be able to be accepted through FAFSA and to have Bishop State pay for all of my tuition, not only that but the curriculums, you know, they make it so easy to understand on their website. Like I said, I'm a 40-year-old man, so I don't use technology too much, but it was very understandable where I needed to go. It was extremely fast. These past two years, things have just moved in a total different type of way. It's like its own moving entity to see things manifest the way that they do.

Time now for Am I the A-Hole on the Mojo in the Morning Show. this is where you if you have an issue that's going on where you're wondering if maybe you're being an a-hole about it uh can go to our iheart radio app and if you're on channel 955 on the iheart radio app there is the talkback mic send us a talkback of hey mojo in the morning am i an a-hole if blah blah blah blah and we'll put you on the the radio with us um this one's got is a talk back right here? It is. Okay. All right. Here's the, uh, here's the, uh, the, the talk

00:02:54 - 00:03:18 | Speaker 5:

back. Hi, this is, uh, Mark from LaPierre. Uh, I have a, uh, am I the a-hole for the show? Uh, I'm moving out of my apartment on my roommates. Um, we're in a fight and, uh, my roommate just told me that I'm over. So, uh, yeah, let me know. Am I the a-hole?

00:03:19 - 00:03:19 | Speaker 7:

He's moving out.

00:03:20 - 00:03:24 | Speaker 4:

Oh, because they're fighting, so he's moving out, so then everybody else has to pay.

00:03:24 - 00:03:25 | Speaker 7:

Oh, more.

00:03:25 - 00:03:25 | Speaker 4:

More.

00:03:26 - 00:03:33 | Speaker 7:

Gotcha. Mark, you're on with us. You can't swear on the radio. You could on the talkback. I appreciate you coming on with us. Mark?

00:03:34 - 00:03:35 | Speaker 6:

Yeah, hey, guys.

00:03:35 - 00:03:40 | Speaker 7:

Hi. So what's going on? You got into a fight with your roommates, and you're moving out on them?

00:03:42 - 00:04:49 | Speaker 6:

Yeah, so I live with these two other guys I went to college with. One of my Roommates, he texted me and he's like He's like I'm gonna leave because this place Is a mess, you guys don't Keep it clean You know, it's not worth Living here, paying rent It's too stressful when we're gonna Just trash the place I don't think it's that Messy, but whatever And I took that message Serious So I went out, and I found a new place, and I, you know, I'm moving. I told him I'm leaving since it didn't make sense for us to live together anymore, I guess. And he started, like, freaking out. He was like, no, no, no, I was just being hypothetical. I wasn't serious. I wasn't actually trying to move out. And so now they're like, you're leaving us high and dry, and we're going to have a roommate then.

00:04:49 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 7:

I understand it now. All right, so you took what they said serious. They just said that in a bit of rage, and you actually went and found another place. Are you in a place?

00:05:00 - 00:05:14 | Speaker 4:

a-hole for leaving these guys to pay the entire rent. I don't know. I mean, I would probably say is your name legally on all the paperwork or no?

00:05:14 - 00:05:19 | Speaker 6:

No. No, it's only my roommate that sent the first. Okay.

00:05:19 - 00:05:23 | Speaker 4:

Is he the guy that said move out or whatever?

00:05:24 - 00:05:26 | Speaker 6:

Yeah, he's the guy that sent the first message.

00:05:26 - 00:05:42 | Speaker 4:

So he's the guy that's going to get burned by this. I don't know if he's an a-hole. I don't think so. I don't know. I mean, I could be wrong on this one, and that's why I'll ask the listeners in 844 Mojo Live and Shannon and Megan and KP and Lydia and Zach, what do you guys think on this one?

00:05:42 - 00:05:48 | Speaker 1:

I'm just confused because if somebody were to send you that text message, wouldn't you talk to them face-to-face before you decide to leave?

00:05:48 - 00:06:02 | Speaker 10:

Yes, that's my thing. That's where I kind of think you're the a-hole is you just up and did it, and I understand that you guys are in a fight, but you didn't give them any sort of warning or heads up, and it does really change their financial situation.

00:06:04 - 00:06:18 | Speaker 4:

I think that it would have been good to follow up on this thing, but I kind of get where people take things literally and think, okay, I better find a place to go live. And it's hard to find a place to go live.

00:06:18 - 00:06:21 | Speaker 2:

And like you said, if he's not on the paperwork, what if my man said I just kicked him out?

00:06:22 - 00:06:25 | Speaker 4:

Well, I think that his buddy is dumb for not putting him on the paperwork.

00:06:25 - 00:06:27 | Speaker 1:

That makes him more of an a-hole though. Why is he being a bad roommate?

00:06:28 - 00:06:41 | Speaker 4:

Well, we should get into that. Why are they so pissed off that they said, you know, are you a bad person to live with? Mark?

00:06:42 - 00:06:49 | Speaker 6:

I mean, I'm a, no, no, I'm not a bad person to live with. I'm a good guy. I'm trustworthy.

00:06:50 - 00:06:56 | Speaker 2:

Okay. Well, what are the frustrations? Yeah. What are the frustrations? Like, what is your roommate telling you that you're not doing?

00:06:56 - 00:07:23 | Speaker 6:

He's going on about places like trashed every weekend and how it's not worth paying rent if it's just going to be messy all the time and never be clean. I mean, I'm not like a neat freak or nothing, but I definitely try to keep it clean. I mean, there's three of us here. It's not just me. The other guy and the other guy.

00:07:23 - 00:07:32 | Speaker 4:

All right, let's see what these listeners say. Patrick, 844-MOJO-LIVE, 844-665-6548. Is Mark an a-hole, Patrick?

00:07:33 - 00:07:34 | Speaker 8:

Yeah.

00:07:34 - 00:07:35 | Speaker 4:

Why do you say that?

00:07:36 - 00:07:49 | Speaker 8:

He's the a-hole because his roommate was just expressing that he wanted him to clean up. And that doesn't mean go move out randomly because that just screws him some more. Yeah, he's an a-hole.

00:07:50 - 00:07:50 | Speaker 9:

Yeah.

00:07:52 - 00:07:52 | Speaker 4:

Okay.

00:07:53 - 00:08:02 | Speaker 9:

No, I really agree with you on that one. You can't have people tell you, hey, you're kind of being a problem to live with, and you just go, cool, I'm going to screw you financially, bye.

00:08:02 - 00:08:09 | Speaker 4:

This guy, by the way, Mark sounds like he'd be a great guy to date. Can you imagine? He'd be breaking up relationships all the time.

00:08:09 - 00:08:11 | Speaker 2:

Who wants to live with somebody that's constantly bitching it to them?

00:08:11 - 00:08:13 | Speaker 4:

Tom, what do you think? Is Mark an a-hole?

00:08:14 - 00:08:26 | Speaker 7:

No. Well, let me ask you this. When they went into this whole rent thing, did they all agree, okay, we're all three going to get together and go rent a place? Or did the guy now just go, hey, man, I'm going to sublease this to you?

00:08:27 - 00:08:30 | Speaker 4:

What did he do? Did you just move in with him?

00:08:31 - 00:08:43 | Speaker 6:

Well, yeah, we all knew each other beforehand. We all went in together, but he put his name on the lease and nobody else. So he kind of led the thing, but we all knew each other going in.

00:08:43 - 00:08:45 | Speaker 9:

So you all decided together?

00:08:45 - 00:08:56 | Speaker 7:

Well, then maybe I don't know, man. He's got some issues, man. You agreed to be there, you know what I mean?

00:08:56 - 00:09:01 | Speaker 4:

Tom was like, at first I wasn't going to call you an a-hole, now I might call you one. Kyle, what do you think? Is Mark an a-hole?

00:09:02 - 00:09:23 | Speaker 3:

I'm going to go with, yeah, he's kind of the a-hole here. You agreed to live with them, so you kind of have to pay that. You maybe could have given them more notice. My quick comment when I called in was even when I joined the military and basic training, I still paid rent to my roommate so he could live there. because we kind of had that agreement.

00:09:24 - 00:09:29 | Speaker 4:

That's amazing. That's honorable. What's up, Stephanie? Hi. Is Mark an a-hole?

00:09:29 - 00:09:44 | Speaker 5:

I think Mark is an a-hole. You made a commitment to your friends to live there. And, yeah, total a-hole. And like you said, he should have talked to them first before he made a big impulse decision like that. And I think he is probably a slob.

00:09:46 - 00:09:50 | Speaker 4:

A lot of people are calling him an a-hole. What's up, Angie? Are you thinking he's an a-hole too?

00:09:51 - 00:09:58 | Speaker 5:

No way. I would have been out. I'm paying my hard-earned dollars just like everyone else. You're going to rag on me about being messy.

00:10:00 - 00:10:02 | Speaker 6:

more to do the opportunity to find the cleanest person possible to live with.

00:10:02 - 00:10:08 | Speaker 9:

There we go. So you think if you're sharing a living space with somebody, it's okay for you to ruin their living space?

00:10:09 - 00:10:27 | Speaker 6:

I don't think that he's ruining it. I think you guys are exaggerating a little bit. Like if I'm messy on the weekends, it's the weekend, I'm chilling, I clean it up. It sounds like he's cleaning up over the weekend. They can have a conversation about it, but if you guys are texting me complaining about it, there's a conversation you guys have been having. You didn't loop me in until you were fed up. I'm leaving. I'm not comfortable there anymore.

00:10:27 - 00:10:43 | Speaker 9:

I just feel like that's a luxury you get when you live alone. Like, I'm going to be real honest. My place gets super messy during the week, but it's my space, and then I clean it up on the weekends. But if I'm sharing a space with somebody, then it's my responsibility to make sure nobody comes home to my chaos.

00:10:44 - 00:10:52 | Speaker 6:

I don't know about that. I mean, we've all lived with people, whether it be college or the military or something. We know everyone's not as clean as we are. I mean, there's a level of expectation. I don't know.

00:10:52 - 00:10:55 | Speaker 11:

I think everybody's cleaner than I am. I don't know.

00:10:55 - 00:10:55 | Speaker 6:

Maybe.

00:10:55 - 00:11:00 | Speaker 11:

Kendra wants to comment Or wants to ask a question What's that Kendra?

00:11:01 - 00:11:02 | Speaker 10:

How much longer is the lease?

00:11:03 - 00:11:03 | Speaker 11:

How much Mark?

00:11:06 - 00:11:09 | Speaker 3:

The lease goes until June 2025

00:11:09 - 00:11:11 | Speaker 11:

Okay so you got some time

00:11:11 - 00:11:18 | Speaker 10:

That's a long time to stick it out and be uncomfortable I mean I feel like a conversation could have been had But I'm going more towards the a-hole

00:11:18 - 00:11:20 | Speaker 11:

Okay so you say he's an a-hole

00:11:20 - 00:11:21 | Speaker 10:

Yeah

00:11:21 - 00:11:26 | Speaker 11:

Chris what do you think? Am I the a-hole? Chris?

00:11:28 - 00:11:29 | Speaker 8:

Oh, hi. Hi, Mojo.

00:11:29 - 00:11:30 | Speaker 11:

Hi, buddy. Hi.

00:11:31 - 00:11:49 | Speaker 8:

So, I don't think he is an a-hole because, I mean, the guy had to do what he had to do. They said they wanted him out. As far as Megan saying something about, like, them conversating or something, some people just avoid conflict. I mean, they said they wanted him to move, so he went on and did his own thing to protect himself.

00:11:49 - 00:11:50 | Speaker 11:

But that's not a very adult thing to do.

00:11:50 - 00:11:54 | Speaker 9:

Yeah, and that's not a good excuse. Some people just commit murder. You've got to let them do it.

00:11:55 - 00:12:03 | Speaker 8:

What if they were to go get an eviction notice, though? I mean, the guy would have a few days. He has to protect himself and start looking for a place if they say to move.

00:12:03 - 00:12:06 | Speaker 9:

You know when you get an eviction notice? When you get rats.

00:12:07 - 00:12:09 | Speaker 11:

Wow. I don't know where that came from.

00:12:09 - 00:12:10 | Speaker 9:

Because it's a club.

00:12:10 - 00:12:19 | Speaker 11:

Hey, can I ask this question of Mark, and then this will be the last thing, and we'll wrap this up. Mark, did you leave a security deposit?

00:12:22 - 00:12:24 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, I pretty sure about that.

00:12:24 - 00:12:38 | Speaker 11:

you ain't getting it back yeah and maybe that's the thing just give it up and just move is the new place nicer yeah it's really nice okay honestly part of your thing is probably you

00:12:38 - 00:12:49 | Speaker 3:

want to move to in the new place don't you yeah i mean i i was if i stuck with them this year i i would have i would have said we should find a new spot once our lease expires but okay this gives

00:12:49 - 00:12:54 | Speaker 11:

you a time to get out earlier all right am i the a-hole on mojo in the morning they've taken over

Hi, it's Kyle McLaughlin, host of the What Are We Even Doing podcast.

00:13:43 - 00:14:15 | Speaker 4:

You know, my favorite part of the morning is that first cup of coffee, a small, quiet ritual that sets the rhythm for my day. That's why I appreciate DeLonghi. For over 50 years, they've combined Italian craftsmanship and thoughtful design. And as the number one espresso machine brand in the world, they make it effortless. Just a damn fine cup of coffee in your own kitchen. Right now, you can save 10% off your purchase at DeLonghi.com with code KYLE at checkout. After all, if it's not Italian, is it even espresso?

00:14:16 - 00:14:24 | Speaker 7:

This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

00:14:24 - 00:14:59 | Speaker 1:

I would say Bishop State's like a home for people. It may not be like a four-year where you have a dorm, you have a roommate, you have a rec center, but it's still a place you can go meet new people, classmates, put in the hallway, make friends with advisors on all these teachers and everything like that. It's just a place you can feel like yourself and not try to be the thing you don't want to be. With this program, I learned networking a lot. We've had two dinners with heads of different companies, dealing with shipping or even game design builds, dealing with AutoCAD or 3D modeling. So really being able to meet new people or meet heads of new people has been really helpful. I don't come from a wealthy family, so four years, we're kind of not out the picture.

00:15:00 - 00:15:09 | Speaker 2:

but less probable for me to go to. Bishop State, with my scholarship, it cut my price in half and made it way easier for me to go to school for the same 12 credits I would go for a four-year.

00:15:09 - 00:15:16 | Speaker 1:
