All right, it's Mojo in the Morning Show. Shannon, Kev, myself. Zach is our executive director of audio here. He's our audio executive producer. And he's an all-around great guy.

00:02:30 - 00:02:30 | Speaker 7:

Thanks.

00:02:30 - 00:02:48 | Speaker 6:

And one of the cutest things ever is when I talk to Zach on the phone, my wife and my son, Luke, love this. He actually will say, I love you, Moj. He always says that when he leaves. He is, by the way, also the greatest uncle in the world. I saw you hanging out with the nephew. Yep, yep. Did you guys go to a movie or something?

00:02:48 - 00:02:57 | Speaker 7:

Yeah, we saw Superman and spent, you know, 60 bucks on snacks, and he just fell asleep the whole time. He was knocked out. Really? Yeah, it was a great time.

00:02:57 - 00:03:29 | Speaker 6:

So did you enjoy that, or were you pissed that you paid for the movie and he slept the whole time? He's a teenager. Okay. He needs a sleep. How old is he, like 13 or something? Oh, yeah. Is he? Okay. All right, so Zach, this is wild to say this, because Lydia told me to set it up this way. Zach would like to adopt a child yes would you want to have Zach as your dad I mean if we're going to the movies eating $60 snacks I mean why not but you don't want to adopt a child as like your son or daughter you want to adopt a brother right you want to get a big brother

00:03:29 - 00:03:34 | Speaker 7:

I mean my ultimate goal in life is I do want to adopt and you know be a dad to someone

00:03:34 - 00:03:39 | Speaker 6:

why do you not want to sow the seed and get yourself like get some girl knocked up

00:03:39 - 00:03:54 | Speaker 7:

that's later but I think I want I don't know. It's a full circle moment. So, like, if you don't know, my mom passed and then my sister was my legal guardian growing up. And I think for me to give back in my life, I feel like that's what I want to do.

00:03:54 - 00:03:59 | Speaker 3:

This is so much about you, Zach, because you were young when your mom passed away, right?

00:03:59 - 00:04:01 | Speaker 6:

Yeah, I was 11. Okay. Wow. Yeah.

00:04:01 - 00:04:02 | Speaker 3:

Yeah.

00:04:02 - 00:04:20 | Speaker 6:

That, by the way, let's not gloss over that. Yeah. Because that's a huge moment. You know, I literally just talked to my sister just a couple minutes ago. that was the the person that raised me as a kid you were 11 years old when your mother died yep and dad was out of the picture so mom was all you knew yeah and it was you and your sister and your

00:04:20 - 00:04:38 | Speaker 7:

sister took on the responsibilities at how old of an age was she so she's 11 years older than me so uh by the time i was taking care of my uh my mom she was in college so yeah she was 21 when she first took care of me dude just kind of that makes me cry like that makes me cry just with joy

00:04:38 - 00:04:52 | Speaker 6:

over the fact that she she took care of you 20 20 something can you man honestly can you imagine that when you're 21 years old you're thinking about your first legal alcohol alcoholic beverage she's thinking about how her brother's going to go to school every day yeah and she was living in

00:04:52 - 00:04:57 | Speaker 7:

a different state so like she had to move back to michigan wow to come take care of me so like

00:04:57 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 3:

did she move into your mom's house

00:04:59 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 7:

No.

00:05:00 - 00:05:01 | Speaker 6:

Did you get to stay at home or no?

00:05:02 - 00:05:17 | Speaker 4:

We ended up moving. So it's a long story, but during the process of her coming, moving back to Michigan, I ended up staying with my aunt for about six months while she was in the process of moving back. And then she bought a house or we went to an apartment and stuff. Yeah.

00:05:17 - 00:05:43 | Speaker 3:

Wow. Zach, in the last year or two years, has gotten a full-time job. Oh, yeah. Got his benefits. Got a new car. Give me a horn. Now, I sure do. He also got himself a new apartment by himself so he doesn't live with anybody. And so this is a moment where you feel like you have been put up on your feet in a way that you want to be able to help out somebody else that maybe doesn't have somebody like yourself.

00:05:43 - 00:05:55 | Speaker 4:

That's exactly what it is. I think it's time to finally give back. But however, I'm not ready to adopt and fully commit. So I think the next best thing is to be a big brother. Wow. And that's kind of the goal.

00:05:55 - 00:05:55 | Speaker 6:

Like big brothers, big sisters?

00:05:56 - 00:06:08 | Speaker 4:

Exactly. I just don't, I don't, that's kind of why I wanted to bring this up. I don't know. One, I'm nervous that I won't be good enough. But two, I don't know how to even start or like the beginning stages.

00:06:08 - 00:06:15 | Speaker 2:

The good enough thing, I think the majority of the time, the best thing you can be is there. Oh, yeah.

00:06:15 - 00:06:15 | Speaker 4:

For sure.

00:06:15 - 00:06:16 | Speaker 2:

Like your presence.

00:06:16 - 00:06:17 | Speaker 4:

Yeah.

00:06:17 - 00:06:31 | Speaker 2:

And then once they see somebody in their life that's chosen them, that's a big thing in the world. And consistent. yes the consistency of showing up and being chosen and i'm worth just like you think that you aren't good enough there are a lot of kids out there that don't feel good enough but to know

00:06:31 - 00:06:45 | Speaker 4:

that they had somebody that chose them yeah that's all you need sometimes well yeah let's talk about i i'm also nervous that uh i mean we're super busy it's i'm nervous that uh i can't commit i

00:06:45 - 00:07:20 | Speaker 3:

want to commit but like you know what i won't have enough but even a little tiny bit of time you're a busy guy then what you you you need balance and i've often often thought about this with you like you know how you go to do the bowling team and stuff like that you need to do that because otherwise honestly you're going to burn yourself out yeah and and you figure out a way to do it yeah like you figure out a way if you when chelsea always tells this to me all the time when you say yes to everybody you're saying no to yourself yeah so you got to learn how to say yes to yourself and this is something that you really want you got to do it and say no to others yeah But do you have a criminal past?

00:07:20 - 00:07:21 | Speaker 4:

No, no. Okay.

00:07:23 - 00:07:40 | Speaker 6:

I want to connect you with one of my best guy friends, Mikey. He's been a big brother for Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Indiana for like 15 years. The same kid. And now the kid has graduated and he's still like a mentor to him. It's such a beautiful thing. Seriously.

00:07:40 - 00:07:42 | Speaker 4:

You said something about Indiana. So he lives in Indiana?

00:07:43 - 00:07:46 | Speaker 6:

Yeah, but look, there's one. I just looked. Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Southeastern Michigan.

00:07:46 - 00:07:51 | Speaker 3:

again we've had them in the studio with us before and not recently but there's got to be somebody

00:07:51 - 00:07:56 | Speaker 5:

listening that does work with them there are 156 little brothers waiting for a big brother right

00:07:56 - 00:09:29 | Speaker 3:

now i'll take all 156 let's go well and the and the other thing honestly can i also recommend this um uh kev's uh ex cherelle does uh you know a great foundation that helps that these kids their dads and moms or both sometimes are incarcerated. I'm sure that there's ways that you can help with that. That's pure heart. Can I say something real quick about you? And I want listeners to know this. This guy is legit. When I talk about people, there are certain people that you look at and you go this person is a really, really amazing person. This guy is one of the most legit people I've ever met in my life. Thank you so much. You being here with us on our show has been such an unbelievably positive thing for us because you give us the ability to be able to have somebody around us that has like literally a legit heart. And I think that one of the problems we have in this world is we've got sometimes people that want to help, but then they kind of go, whatever, you know, the deal is, you know, I'm a little too busy. you're a guy that is legit in your life and your life has an amazing story. Like the fact that you've gone through what you've gone through and then you want to pay it forward because sometimes people would sit there and stew in the, the, the fact that your mom died. Oh, I've been stewing for a while though. So I'm not going to lie. But can I be honest?

00:09:29 - 00:09:33 | Speaker 6:

It propels you to do, to do something. It's amazing. I love you, man.

00:09:33 - 00:09:38 | Speaker 3:

I really do love you. I love you, Moj. Mallory. what's going on Mallory

00:09:38 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 1:

first time long time and I was just going to say like he should be a mentor there are so many different school districts where he can you know volunteer in elementary schools they love having like adult mentorships for kids who do not have that like adult

00:10:00 - 00:10:06 | Speaker 6:

relationship at home either if it was due to a family death or if you know they just don't have

00:10:06 - 00:10:24 | Speaker 3:

like that support system if you know of any please text us okay anybody knows of any like text us links to uh organizations that or or actually names of people that zach should call like with phone numbers on it um and obviously we'll do research too all of us will do research

00:10:24 - 00:11:13 | Speaker 2:

on this what's up brian hey uh good morning guys i just want to do a let up let zach know that if he's if he's gonna do this um don't doubt yourself uh stepping up to the plate and being willing to do this is is enough self-reassurance that you're good enough to do so um the biggest thing about doing something like this is the commitment and the follow-through because most of these children don't have somebody to um make you know complete their promises and whatnot so if you tell somebody you're going to be there to pick them up be there go up to pick them up um be there you know uh beyond that as long as you follow through with the commitment and in your promises you're good enough no matter what you do man um you know it's a great thing you sound

00:11:13 - 00:11:17 | Speaker 4:

kind of like you speak from experience have you entered this program or like where does your

00:11:17 - 00:12:01 | Speaker 2:

knowledge um no uh so i've i grew up with both of my parents but uh both of my parents were really young um they they uh you know struggled raising me a little bit and uh um elder people stepping up and doing things for me and making sure i had opportunities and other things like that really really played a big impact so um i never actually had to experience one of these programs per se um but but it's definitely it's definitely big you know and and i'm i'm a softy for kids at heart so so anytime anybody's willing to uh step up for the kids that that just touches me you know that's

00:12:01 - 00:12:16 | Speaker 3:

great it's cool you to call brian um 844 mojo live 844-665-6548 our text is 95500 we're getting texts from people with with organizations terry what's up hi hey how you doing good what's going

00:12:16 - 00:13:16 | Speaker 6:

on um i am calling because high school social worker here so i can't tell you how important this is and zach you're amazing for doing this and stepping up but um there are so many kids that need someone in their life um to mentor them someone who is starting their path working their way to success um my my son he's he's 21 and he could really use someone like this in his life because um since his dad and i divorced about six seven years ago he's felt an estrangement and an abandonment from him and he really needs you know a positive male figure in his life like i've since remarried and he and my current husband have a really good relationship but to have somebody who's a little bit younger who's just starting out someone who could like relate to not having that presence in their life is really helpful oh that's and it's funny because i'm picturing

00:13:16 - 00:13:41 | Speaker 3:

zach with even younger kids like teenage kids or younger and stuff but a 21 year old you don't even realize when you're 21 years old and you've had a rough life that sometimes you just need a friend um yeah zach might be a bad influence friend on him that that kid could go to the library pub with him and i don't necessarily but that no that's that's uh it's interesting have you know contact us and maybe even maybe even him just sitting in the studio with us and hanging

00:13:41 - 00:13:49 | Speaker 5:

out one day that's interesting too though because that's probably a forgotten age where people think like you're quote unquote an adult you got to figure it out or you should have it figured out

00:13:49 - 00:14:13 | Speaker 3:

but sometimes you still need a mentor you know what you should do by the way i was thinking about this with you kev me yeah during the school year you should have him big brother josiah and drive him to school and pick him up every single day for you so that you can get your say less toya knows about big brothers big sisters and you can help us toya right

00:14:13 - 00:15:00 | Speaker 1:

hey y'all what's up um i definitely can i've been volunteering with big brothers big sisters for about six years now and they have um different facets of their program and so a couple things I want to share and I won't take a lot of time but a couple things that is they have programs that they do like with partnering with schools and so you will go like once every like once or twice a month and you will go to a particular school and volunteer and do the Big Brother setting in the school they also have it where you can do it outside the school so it's not with the school but you just do the program and the biggest thing I will say is don't try to over commit or like try to like spend like a bunch of money trying to like

00:15:00 - 00:15:23 | Speaker 5:

impress the kids it's really just about the time and finding topics that they relate to so even if it is just once a month or twice a month it's great commit to that don't overly commit because then you'll end up disappointing uh you yourself or feeling bad and and disappointing the kid and then the last thing i'll share um mojo have you guys ever considered doing kind of

00:15:23 - 00:15:29 | Speaker 3:

like mojo's mentors that's a great idea we used to do time team and that's a great idea that's an

00:15:29 - 00:15:46 | Speaker 5:

awesome idea yeah and i like because and even though you guys are busy you guys have a lot of people you partner with i mean you guys had a hundred people apply for one position so people are maybe with another zero yeah yeah they may be willing to come together with you all to do that

00:15:46 - 00:17:02 | Speaker 3:

toya you bring up such an amazing you bring up such an amazing thing and by the way hold on because lydia's gonna get some information from you about the people that you've talked to at big brothers but let me just say this to you the once a month thing is realistic real you know you you have to have achievable goals if the goals aren't achievable then they're not they're not good goals an achievable goal is once a month that's a great thing and you give this kid in yourself something to look forward to every single month and you got it on the calendar it's a great when i coached uh basketball and i was coaching obviously my sons but then i started coaching i got asked by a teacher bob piles at our lady refuge to coach and my kid wasn't going to be on the team and he's like hey these kids would get such an influence out of you the fact that i would walk in there and i would be hanging out they all love the fact that it was you know the coach that was on the radio they will love that with you but also the other thing too is it gave me more joy to do than these kids got joy out of it sure because there is nothing better than seeing that they wouldn't have a coach or they who knows it would be you know some guy that has five different teams that he's coaching that he can't give 100 to so that's awesome and the other thing too is they're hot moms so maybe there's a hot mom what if he ends up dating one of the moms that would be incredible wouldn't that be crazy that'd be like great that's not the goal that's

00:17:02 - 00:17:31 | Speaker 4:

not the goal maybe not the 100% goal Drew McIntyre here from WWE wielding the claymore can be a life of chaos when I'm not dominating in the ring Chumba Casino is how this warrior takes a wee break with hundreds of online social games and new weekly releases there's always something fresh to try and those daily boosts next level even my free time feels like valhalla so when life feels like a battle kick up your feet have some fun and let's chumba no purchase
