I wondered if the fog would affect my travel today becoming in a town because the weather today here I've been doing the show the last two days in Joe and Ashley and Jed's studio, their office studio here for the Joe Show in Tampa, Florida the weather here today is going to be 86 degrees

Why are you coming home?

Because I've got a couple dogs I've got to take care of. I've got a lot of stuff I actually because I am not like that ABC News producer. I do not leave my children alone by the way did some uh did some uh investigating on this for megan the hotel is three minute walk from the uh the restaurant the story that shannon did in her dirty just not that long ago about this abc news producer and his wife the guy ended up having a heart attack which is like the worst case scenario of what you do what happens to you when you leave your two-year-old and five-month-old in a hotel room by themselves so you can go out have a nice dinner well worst case scenario something happening to the kids they have a three minute walk to the restaurant but you guys know how elevators are in you know big buildings like new york city buildings this is like a 50 some floor hotel it probably take you like 10 20 minutes to sometimes get in and out of the hotel just with the elevator and it's for sure that's a 10 minute trip right there so and they left their kid yeah left their kids megan i know who's not gonna

You want to babysit for us.

First of all, I don't want to babysit your kids, so win for me. But I don't know. I see parents a lot of times that work out in the garage. Or I had a family member who had a business that they owned, but it was on their property, but it was in a shed in the back of their property. And so when the kids would nap, they would be in the main house, and they would be working in their office. That to me is just so different, because you just run across the line. But it's a couple of minutes walk. I mean, it was lots of acres, but it was a couple of minutes walk.

Here's the thing. This is an example. If you do stuff like this, worst case scenario, if you work out, you could have.

a heart attack and die and your kids are are there but like this guy had a heart attack he died i mean literally dropped dead yeah drop dead right at the right outside the restaurant i think and what do you do like okay so this would be the interesting thing and i was thinking about this with chelsea if we did this and i started having a heart attack in the restaurant she would run to the hotel to go see the kids because knowing her she cared more about the kids oh my god whatever I'd be there with some strange bus boy trying to revive me.

I mean, that wasn't the case for these parents. No.

Yeah, she went to the hospital, didn't she, with him? Yeah. Even in the ambulance as he was trying to be revived?

Yeah. Actually, and I think that's how, because I was trying to figure out how the hotel figured out at 11 p.m. that there were unattended children in that room. It must have been a case of somebody, like a friend or a family member or something, going to the hotel to get the kids because she was going to the hospital, right? I need a key to get in.

I'm not on the name or whatever.

It had to be that.

I remember going with the kids in Chelsea. We stayed at a hotel, and it was in Dubuque, Iowa. And I remember Chelsea leaving to go get some stuff at the store, and I wanted to go to the ice machine down the hall. And Joe and Jacob were really young. and I remember like trying to figure out how to prop the door so I can go run out to the ice machine and do anything and all that was in my head was the door is going to slam shut I'm going to be standing out in the hallway with an ice bucket and Chelsea's going to come back and she's going to be like what the f did you do and so I didn't do it you know I didn't even you know you could put sometimes in some hotels you can put like the security latch so you can keep the door open this one didn't have that whole situation it had like the chain the security chain on there which by the way doesn't stop anybody I'm thinking about this and I'm just thinking to myself no none of it does so Megan do you think that leaving your children question for you because you have Coraline

you don't even leave Coraline at home for a good period of time yes I do

I also grew up in a generation where all of our parents smoked So, like, we were left at a very young age places so they could go outside and get a cigarette. Like, I know it's different going down the block. I do think it was too far away. When we were talking about this earlier, I said, would it be different if there was, like, a restaurant in the hotel, like, down in the lobby? Would that be different? Obviously, if you're going across town, these are babies that were very little. You don't want an emergency to happen. That would be terrifying. But what is that balance of, like, how far can you go? How long can you leave them? How little can they be? I think it's always the interesting question,

especially when you talk to parents. I think every parent asks themselves that. Like, I can remember when, I think it was, maybe Smith was a baby, and he was napping, and I'm really good friends with the girl that lives across the street from me. And so I was like, can I go hang out on her porch and have him sleeping, and if I bring the monitor? You know, like, it is, like, a question that I think parents struggle with. Like, I feel like it's okay. Is it okay? I don't know.

And then I think the big one is when you talk about how old can kids be when you leave them alone? Like if you're going to work and they're home from school sick, what age is that? And every parent will tell you a different age. So it's one of those weird like kind of questions when it comes to parenting is what's okay?

You know what's unbelievable though? I think they went to a nice steakhouse, I guess it said. Aren't those places like it takes a while to get your food? It's like a big ordeal. Like, it's not like going to Ponderosa where, you know, you get your...

They're not trying to turn tables. It's a three-hour dinner.

But it's like watching the baby monitor, right? And, again, let's pretend this restaurant is in the hotel so it's not, you know, five minutes away because I think we all agree that's a little far. But if you knew your kid was going to wake up, couldn't you say send it up to the room or I'll be back later once I have the kids? You could have one of the parents leave and go take care of the kids?

Yeah.

Or are you stuck in the hotel room every time they nap?

If it takes 10 minutes to get to the room and your child starts screaming maybe, just wakes up, people in the hotel are going to call down the front desk. There's a baby screaming. There's nobody doing – like something's going on. There's something wrong. And next thing you know, they're busting down the door. You're not there. Who knows who can enter the room, like room service or maintenance?

It's not even that. I think it's just the anxiety of knowing that your child is alone and what could – They obviously had no anxiety.

They were worried about dessert.

But I really mean that. Like, my brain goes a mile a minute when I'm in my bedroom and my two kids are sleeping across the hall. Like.

That was my point. Can't all this happen in a house, though, too? Absolutely. There's a false sense of security that home is safe.

No, because in a hotel, there's a bunch of strangers wandering around.

Yeah, but in your neighborhood, there's a bunch of strangers living in the other houses.

You're not waiting for a bank of elevators to get up to your child at home.

This is part of the reason, though, why I don't want to be a parent. is because all of this stuff is so stressful and I think we talk about it a lot there's so much parent shaming that people probably don't want to tell us their answers because other people will

I just want to say I think it really totally depends on the kid and their maturity and responsibility level because you know when I was like 10 and 11 I was babysitting at other people's houses young children by myself no cell phones like you know and that was 20 some years ago and my now 10 year old he just turned 11 yesterday actually um he is we just started leaving him home alone last year for a little bit of time but i definitely don't leave him with my five-year-old alone yeah so did you hear the

ages of these these kids of the producer that abc producer the two months old no five months old in two years. Five months old and two years old, excuse me. Yeah, five months old and two years old. I mean, not much difference,

in front of gas stations people run in to get some snacks or something and they'll get a slurpee and they'll leave their babies in the car for five minutes but if you say would you leave your purse in the front seat they're like no oh my gosh somebody'll break the window and i would not leave

my purse alone in a room i would hide it so that the maid didn't come in and take a look at it yeah

but purses don't cry and crap and babies do so there's like other factors there oh god misfit

happy new year back in the day and i can i guess i can tell a story because statute of limitations is over or whatever but um we had a neighbor that used to leave the kids dave and aaron home all alone all the time so we used to call them and we'd say hi and let's say their parents names are tom and chelsea say hi is uh can i speak to tom or chelsea please and they were told do not tell them we're not home tell them we're in a shower in the bathroom they say uh they're in the bathroom i say i'll hold and they would sit there and uh can we have them call you back i'm like no no i'll hold let me talk to your mom or dad real quick and you can hear the panic in their voice i bet put your mom and dad on the phone they're in the bathroom i go both of them i go you're lying aren't you they hang up the phone and start trying to run to our house how old were when you did this to them? They're about seven years old, seven or eight. Oh, my God, Victor.

Why terrorize the children? You should terrorize the parents for doing it.

Yeah. But that was before a cell phone. That was before a cell phone. But the parents would get home, and they'd hear the story, and then they'd wonder, who's the psycho calling their house?

The amazing thing is the parents know they're in the wrong doing it because they're telling their kids to lie and say that we're in the bathroom. Yeah.

Yeah, like how long is your dad and mom? Are they doing a tandem poop? Are they sitting on each other's laps? or what's going on?
