This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

Alan Lee, my major is drafting and design. In high school, I did it since my sophomore year, and I kind of wanted to continue it. It was the only thing I was good at. I didn't want to move to a four-year. I don't think I'm mentally prepared. I found Bishop State. They had the program. I met a few people there. I ended up enrolling. The instructor, first day I met him, I told him about my background. He said, okay, great. You know about this. He built me straight to work. He didn't let me have any leeway. He pushed me to my limits. So I think that made me choose drafting design at Bishop State and stuck with it. The sport's amazing. All my instructors just want to see me succeed. They want to push me to my limit. They want to see me be the best I can be, get a job, just be as successful as I can be. And I really appreciate all of them. With my degree, As of right now, my plan is to work for the city of Mobile with their urban planning department. And I've already got a job shadow before, and hopefully I will end the ship over the summer. If you choose Bishop, we're welcome to have you any day.

I'm going to title this topic Karma, but not with a K, with a C, as in your karma, okay? Had an incident happen, and I, by the way, will say this. If you've never been to Detroit, I want you, if you listen in Grand Rapids, Toledo, or anywhere around the world, to never come here and drive the Lodge, okay? Don't say that. You come to Detroit, but you don't ever drive the Lodge.

It is M10. The Lodge is the worst road in the history of roads.

And 696. They're both terrifying. 696 is pretty bad, too. The Lodge takes the cake.

The Lodge is crazy. First off. Y'all crazy. Let me tell you. Listen, Mr. Detroit. I'm Miss Detroit, and I'm telling you, I like everything about Detroit, but I hate the Lodge. I love the Lodge. They call it the Lodge.

The Lodge is my freeway. I take the Lodge over any other freeway.

You know why I don't like it? Because the speed limit says-

The speed limit says 55, and everybody's driving 105, and I drive 65, and it's slow.

And I saw somebody on one of those Lime scooters on the Lodge one day in a lane. It is the wild health expressway.

If you live off the Lodge, you must be crazy, because you do see crazy stuff there, like toilets and things.

How is the speed limit 55 on a highway? Now, let me tell you. Same thing for the Southfield Freeway, by the way. How is it 55? It makes no sense.

Yeah, when I moved to Detroit, I moved to downtown Detroit. And for the first year that I lived here, we worked in Farmington Hills. I took the lodge every day to and from work. And then if I ran any errands, like the lodge is really the road I take the most. It was so confusing to me how everybody was so angry at me for driving 60 on the lodge. And people will flip you off. They'll swerve at you. It is terrifying to not be from here and not know that the speed limit truly is 80 on a road that's marked 55.

It doesn't take you long to get it. I feel like every freeway is like that.

No, that's a Michigan thing.

Well, everything in Michigan. Name me a freeway. Y'all talk about 696, 75, where everybody's going with the speed limit says. Well, it doesn't happen.

You can go 10 over. You can't go 35 over.

But it's what cracks me up about Michiganders visiting Ohio. every one of them are like, I got a ticket in Ohio because y'all are going 30 miles over the speed limit because it's normal in Michigan and y'all don't get ticketed and it's enforced in Ohio. Alright, let me explain

my karma topic here for a second. No, this is good though. I like that we're all venting and we all have opinions on the show. Here's the karma one. You ever have it happen where somebody is a jerk off on the roads and karma C-A-R or K-A-R catches up to them? driving down the lodge it's snowing okay so it's kind of rough it's a little bit slippery um and guy driving a pickup truck driving like a maniac a bat out of freaking hell and he's getting upset because he got behind me and then the car next to me was

Going off on the next exit there, right by UD. And he just decides that he's going to get pissed at me. And he comes up, like past me, Hemi engines his ass past me. Starts driving. And I'm like, geez, that guy, what's going on? I look at him. He looks kind of like angry and stuff. About, I don't even know, six miles or so up the road. That sumbitch is right there. Boom. Smacked right into. Yep. Wow. Guy ended up sliding off the side of the road, and I'm like, I hate, I don't want to see anybody get hurt. I think he was okay. I don't know. But that is karma, buddy. Yeah, it is. Is that not the greatest? To see that happen? No.

I love it. No, because you can't, well, it's because you drive a pickup truck like a crazy woman too, don't you? I do.

I can't drive.

Yeah. And Kevin, Kevin, remember, just got in that accident. That wasn't my fault, though. Okay. Well, you tell the police.

I hate it when people, like, weave or do that or speed and weave or tail you because you're going, like, around the speed limit. No, get your ass in the right lane. I always, always, always am like, please get pulled over. When they, like, zoom in front of you, I'm like, get pulled over. I will say that's the best part about moving to Michigan. Y'all know how to use a left lane and get out of it. I love that. Ohio people camp, and that's terrible.

Those are the rules. Because I've been the person that, all right, the left lane. And y'all told me, I learned this on the show. the left lane you're not supposed to stay in the lane no it's just for passing yeah so in my mind the further to the right you are that's for the slow people and then as you go to the left you gradually get faster and to get off on exit so if you're going slow if you don't like it then you should be all the way in the right lane and then you're in an acceptable lane but in ohio everybody

will drive 60 in every lane even though the speed limit is 65 thanks the people i'm talking about Kev, though, this is any lane, and it is still not freaking fast enough for them.

Morning. so i um i used to work for an ambulance service and one of the things that i've heard like a lot of dispatchers say and also like cops is that the more likely that you are to slam on your brakes just because you see a cop sitting there you're just gonna you're increasing your chances of getting pulled over because you know that you're doing the wrong so i like my dad slams on the brakes all the time when we're driving down to monroe and like i laugh because i'm like you're You're like, you're more likely to get pulled over because you know that you're doing something wrong.

Well, that's why I put everything in my GPS ways because it usually gives me a cop warning on there. So I know kind of ahead of time. But you're right. I think cops kind of have an idea that when you're pushing the brakes on that things are nuts. You just tap it, though.

Yes, it literally just happened like a couple of days ago. I was on my way to pick my daughter up from school. And right there at Menards on Plymouth and Middlebelt, this lady just came out of the parking lot and almost hit me. And LaVonia followed her for a mile and pulled her over. Oh, I love it.

I would say Bishop State's like a home for people. It may not be like a four-year where you have a dorm, you have a roommate, you have a rec center, but it's still a place you can go meet new people, classmates, people in the hallway, make friends with advisors on all these teachers and everything like that. It's just a place you can feel like yourself and not try to be there you don't want to be. With this program, I learned networking a lot.

We've had two dinners with heads of different companies dealing with shipping or even game design builds, dealing with AutoCAD or any 3D modeling. So really being able to meet new people or meet heads of new people has been really helpful. I don't come from a wealthy family, so four years were kind of not out the picture, but less probable for me to go to. Bishop State with my scholarship, it cut my price in half and made it way easier for me to go to school for the same 12 credits I would go for a four-year.
