This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

My name is Patrick Pettway, and I am getting my Associates of Science and General Education with an emphasis in business administration. To me, it was a no-brainer. When you go out here and you're looking for funding to go back to college as a 40-year-old man, I got six people in my household. The extra money just doesn't just grow out of trees. For me to be able to be accepted through FAFSA and to have Bishop State pay for all of my tuition, not only that, but the curriculums, you know, they make it so easy to understand on their website. Like I said, I'm a 40-year-old man, so I don't use technology too much, but it was very understandable where I needed to go. It was extremely fast these past two years. And listen to what I'm saying, because I know that we all think that these kids these days have it so good. And I would love to grow up to be a kid right now, only because you got everything at the palm of your hands. Like, you don't need to do anything. It's all, you know, technology-based. Yeah. All right. So let me just say why that. I don't believe that you have it as good as you, than you did in our days. We're now officially that guys. You can't throw a house party without getting busted. Friends of ours, kid through a house party. They were out of town over the weekend. And they went out of town for a wedding over the weekend. And with ring cameras, you can't throw a house party anymore. Like it used to be back in the day, you could project X that bitch, you know? And nowadays, nowadays you can't. And my friends sent me audio, which was so funny, of their son throwing a little party. And you could hear him on the ring camera saying, don't turn around, don't turn around. They'll see your face in the ring camera. Like he knew that he knew he was having people over and he was having a bunch, but he didn't want her, you know, her mom, uh, his, you know, mom to know who exactly it was.

So don't want it. He didn't want facial recognition to get involved in the whole deal. And I was thinking nowadays.

We have so many cameras. And the thing that I think a lot of people don't think about is even if your house doesn't have a Ringcam or Nest Cam or whatever the heck, all your neighbors probably do.

So my first argument to this was going to be, who has more cameras than at, like, your front door? Because that's all that I ever had. Like, sneak them into the basement window like we used to do. And now I'm thinking, oh, yeah, everybody has one. Around you. Right.

So even if it's not you and your parents suspect something, they're going to, you know, call Dan and Keith.

Shout out to Dan and Keith. For the cameras that are in your place, though, what would you do if you saw Kieran spray painting the camera or putting a little sticker over the lens so you couldn't see anything?

it's hysterical that i still have the ring account and only have the access to the ring at my brother's house which is my old house so i have to call him when the doorbell rings and he's like somebody's at the front door oh my god you've got to switch that's annoying we don't have a speaker inside it's just the phone notification and nobody knocks so i'm like somebody's at the front door

No, we used to have that because we used to have it in the, you guys have been to my house, that front room, because it was the only way that we could get a good view of like the entire outside. And now we have two, two or three separate cameras right there on each of the doors. but my friends were so weary of like they didn't like hanging out in that room because they were like everything we talk about is on camera and i i i get it like i got it somebody break into your

house though you got the footage but there are i know people and couples that have it like in their home so they can watch who's sitting on the couch and what people are doing and it's like that's just a trust thing i think i mean that's not stealing or anything well i mean i think the idea well some

people i mean i can't speak for everybody but i know some people who have them in their homes because they have been broken into before and you have it for insurance purposes or you have that safety factor but what ends up happening is you treat it like reality tv yeah and if you do live with people you just pull it up and see what's going on it's weird poncho's back and poncho

my major is drafting and design. In high school I did it since my sophomore year and I kind of wanted to continue it. It was the only thing I was good at. I didn't want to move to a four-year yet. I don't think I was mentally prepared. I found Bishop State. They had the program. I met a few people there. I ended up enrolling. The instructor, first day I met him, I told him about my background. He said, okay, great, you know about this. He built me straight to work. He didn't let me have any leeway. He pushed me to my limits. So I think that made me choose drafting design at Bishop State and stuck with it. The sport's amazing. All my instructors just want to see me succeed. They want to push me to my limit. They want to see me be the best I can be, get a job, just be as successful as I can be. And I really appreciate all of them. With my degree, as of right now, my plan is to work for the city of Mobile with their urban planning department. And I've already got a job shadow before, and hopefully I will internship over the summer. If you choose Bishop, we're welcome to have you any day.
