This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

00:00:37 - 00:01:22 | Speaker 6:

I would say Bishop State's like a home for people. It may not be like a four-year where you have a dorm, you have a roommate, you have a rec center, but it's still a place you can go meet new people, classmates, people in the hallway, make friends with advisors on all these teachers and everything like that. It's just a place you can feel like yourself and not try to be that you don't want to be. With this program, I learned networking a lot. We've had two dinners with heads of different companies dealing with shipping or even game design builds, dealing with AutoCAD or 3D modeling. So really being able to meet new people or meet heads of new people has been really helpful. I don't come from a wealthy family, so four years were kind of not out the picture, but less probable for me to go to. Bishop State with my scholarship, it cut my price in half and made it way easier for me to go to school for the same 12 credits I would go for a four-year.

00:02:12 - 00:02:14 | Speaker 8:

Yeah, I'm going to start. Actually, I'll start with iHeart.

00:02:15 - 00:02:15 | Unknown:

Why not?

00:02:15 - 00:02:31 | Speaker 8:

Mariah Carey Anderson-Pack together again at iHeart last night, fueling the rumors that they are more than just working on some new music together. He was the one helping her up onto the stage where she accepted her Icon Award.

00:02:31 - 00:02:46 | Speaker 1:

My Lamely, you've been with me through every step of this journey. Your love and loyalty are the greatest gift And I'm endlessly thankful For each one of you

00:02:46 - 00:02:50 | Speaker 7:

By the way, the tribute that was done to her And having Tori Kelly perform

00:02:50 - 00:02:51 | Speaker 8:

Tori Kelly's amazing

00:02:51 - 00:02:57 | Speaker 7:

Oh my god, she was so good And she was performing Mariah's Always Be My Baby

00:02:57 - 00:03:05 | Speaker 8:

I mean, I thought it was Mariah singing Tori Kelly has, man, a voice

00:03:05 - 00:03:16 | Speaker 7:

I can't tell if Mariah seemed happy Or was like, oh, this girl, what's going on here?

00:03:16 - 00:03:18 | Speaker 1:

She's still in the spotlight

00:03:18 - 00:03:44 | Speaker 7:

I love Mariah Mariah, by the way, when you meet artists face-to-face You learn a new perspective of her She was one of the nicest celebrities I have ever met face-to-face We met at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Vegas And she let us come right into her dressing room and they were kind of like, all right, you're going to go in there really quick. You're going to take a picture and you're going to leave. And she was like, no, come on, sit down, hang out. I mean, she was like so amazing at spending time with you.

00:03:44 - 00:03:49 | Speaker 6:

You don't hear a lot of that about Mariah. It's totally the opposite oftentimes.

00:03:50 - 00:04:01 | Speaker 7:

Honestly, she loves radio. She actually, her acceptance last night, I felt like it was a tribute to the iHeartRadio staff here and all the DJs and programmers and all that stuff.

00:04:02 - 00:04:11 | Speaker 8:

Other big winners last night, benson boone's beautiful things named song of the year no surprise to me there this is a crazy job

00:04:11 - 00:04:39 | Speaker 2:

um it is not what i was expecting to do with my life and every day is a new adventure but i think something that is really really really really important for me in my career is having someone that believes in me and from the very beginning of doing radio interviews and promo and coming to radio stations um tom pullman has believed in me and iheart has believed in me and they have played my music and streamed my songs and tommy p billy eilish

00:04:39 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 8:

billy eilish gracie abrams is a jelly roll sabrina carpenter glorilla all taking home trophies by the way going back to mariah she was one of three powerhouse women who won honorary awards last night taylor swift's record-breaking eras tour was named tour of the century you had Mariah and then Gaga received the.

00:05:00 - 00:05:02 | Speaker 6:

The iHeartRadio Innovator Award for 2025.

00:05:03 - 00:05:15 | Speaker 1:

Thank you, iHeartRadio, for honoring the truth I've fought for in my music. And to every artist who's ever been told they're different, complicated, or too much, please, never change.

00:05:16 - 00:05:36 | Speaker 8:

And Billie Eilish was doing a lot with the awards, presenting, and Gracie Abrams was amazing. I don't know if they're going to replay it or are they streaming it somewhere? Because if you didn't see Gracie Abrams perform, she is. She's adorable. I wish we and I hope we have her at our jingle ball this year. She's so good.

00:05:36 - 00:05:57 | Speaker 6:

Yeah. And by the way, next hour, a huge, huge something that Swifties spotted Taylor Swift wearing. Oh, yeah. Last night. So we'll get to that. President Trump said his administration going to release 80,000 pages related to the assassination of President John F. Kennedy today.

00:05:57 - 00:06:10 | Speaker 4:

We are tomorrow announcing and giving all of the Kennedy files. So people have been waiting for decades for this.

00:06:11 - 00:06:16 | Speaker 6:

He said they weren't going to redact anything. So we'll see when that's released. Where are we hoping to find out?

00:06:16 - 00:06:41 | Speaker 8:

today the cia killed him oh i think you know if you watch any of the movies the kennedy uh movies you'll see that or any of the documentaries but i will say that that is a big one and they're saying that the martin luther king one oh we already knew that that that that the cia they're pointing fingers at has been responsible they believe for the death of a lot of the highest profile people Of course.

00:06:41 - 00:06:43 | Speaker 7:

Now, come on. The list goes on.

00:06:44 - 00:07:08 | Speaker 6:

And we need to start saying our goodbyes right now to Forever 21. They have filed for bankruptcy protection for a second time as people are not really going to the mall anymore. Mall traffic getting lighter and lighter. And they're facing a lot of competition from online retailers like Amazon, T-Mu, Sheen. You know, a fast fashion. No, Zara here to say. Zara's like a step up from Forever 21 for sure.

00:07:08 - 00:07:12 | Speaker 8:

They're coming for you, Zara. Sarah, the bankers are coming for you to file bankruptcy.

00:07:13 - 00:07:16 | Speaker 6:

I'd be naked if Zara went out of his nest. Can I tell you something?

00:07:17 - 00:07:31 | Speaker 8:

Today's a historic day. Today in the Detroit area, Macy's will not be Oakland Mall bound anymore. For those that grew up with going to Oakland Mall, I know that mall is pretty much a ghost. Is today the last day? I believe that today is the day.

00:07:31 - 00:07:32 | Speaker 6:

We thought they were staying open for like two more weeks.

00:07:33 - 00:07:50 | Speaker 8:

All those people that worked at that one and then the one that was in Sterling Heights, They're both closing, and I think 200-plus people are going to be unemployed because of it. It's very, very sad. Oh, man. Wow. I wonder if it'll turn into a megachurch. That mall? Always do. Really? That'd be happening. That's a big church, huh? Yeah.

00:09:14 - 00:09:58 | Speaker 7:

Alan Lee, my major is drafting and design. In high school, I did it since my sophomore year, and I kind of wanted to continue it. It was the only thing I was good at. I didn't want to move to a four-year. I don't think I was mentally prepared. I found Bishop State. They had the program. I met a few people there. I ended up enrolling. The instructor, first time I met him, I told him about my background. He said, okay, great, you know about this. He built me straight to work. He didn't let me have any leeway. He pushed me to my limits. So I think that made me choose drafting design at Bishop State and stuck with it. The sport's amazing. All my instructors just want to see me succeed. They want to push me to my limit. They want to see me be the best I can be, get a job, just be as successful as I can be. And I really appreciate all of them. With my degree, as of right now, my plan is to work for the city of Mobile with their urban planning department. And I've already got a job shadow before, and hopefully I will internship over the summer. If you choose Bishop, we're welcome to have you any day.
