This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

00:01:07 - 00:01:52 | Speaker 2:

My name is Patrick Pettway, and I am getting my Associates of Science and General Education with an emphasis in business administration. To me, it was a no-brainer. When you go out here and you're looking for funding to go back to college as a 40-year-old man, I got six people in my household. The extra money just doesn't just grow out of trees. for me to be able to be accepted through FAFSA and to have Bishop State pay for all of my tuition. Not only that, but the curriculums, you know, they make it so easy to understand on their website. Like I said, I'm a 40-year-old man, so I don't use technology too much, but it was very understandable where I needed to go. It was extremely fast. These past two years, things have just moved in a total different type of way. It's like its own moving entity to see things manifest the way that they do.

Mojo in the Morning's Dirty on the 30.

00:02:03 - 00:02:20 | Speaker 10:

All right, Shannon, with the last dirty of the morning, getting excited. Lions game. Going to stay downtown all day today because I'm going to go to the Lions game tonight. And Kev and I are looking for somebody to house us at their luxurious apartment in downtown Detroit.

00:02:20 - 00:02:21 | Speaker 2:

Do you know anyone?

00:02:21 - 00:02:31 | Speaker 10:

You know, I know that there's a couple of people that I know that have places. One says that they may be under the weather today, but the other one seems very healthy right now.

00:02:31 - 00:02:33 | Speaker 4:

Oh, no, she just dropped to the ground.

00:02:33 - 00:02:40 | Speaker 10:

And might have baked goods in their house because they do a lot of TikTok baking. Are they FoodSafe certified?

00:02:41 - 00:02:44 | Speaker 4:

I'm going to stab you.

00:02:44 - 00:02:46 | Speaker 10:

The dirty on the 30 with Shannon. What's going on?

00:02:46 - 00:03:04 | Speaker 4:

Okay. So this murder that happened in New York City yesterday, Brian Thompson, the CEO of the insurance giant UnitedHealthcare, shot and killed outside of the Hilton Midtown Hotel in what police are now calling a targeted attack.

00:03:04 - 00:03:34 | Speaker 7:

Overnight, new video of what appears to be the man who shot and killed a top health insurance CEO in New York City before the attack, carrying what appears to be an e-bike battery possibly used in the getaway. Around 20 minutes later, police say the gunman was seen on surveillance video approaching UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, shooting the 50-year-old father of two multiple times before an investors conference. The gun jamming, but he clears the barrel and fires again before running through an alley, jumping on a bike and fleeing into Central Park.

00:03:34 - 00:03:40 | Speaker 5:

From watching the video, it does seem that he's proficient in the use of firearms as he was able to clear the malfunctions pretty quickly.

00:03:40 - 00:03:47 | Speaker 1:

Every indication is that this was a premeditated, pre-planned, targeted attack.

00:03:47 - 00:04:38 | Speaker 7:

Sources now say bullet casings recovered at the scene have writing on them, including the words deny, defend, and depose, but police overnight not identifying a motive for the attack. Thompson's widow telling NBC he had received threats, but saying she doesn't know the details. UnitedHealth is the largest private health insurer in the U.S. and made headlines recently after a massive cyber attack and for its controversial plan to buy a rival home health provider. Among companies in the health insurance market, UnitedHealth ranks highest when it comes to the percentage of claims denied, nearly twice the industry average. The brazen attack raising questions as to why Thompson, the leader of such a large corporation, did not have a security team. In addition to the bullet casings, police say they've recovered a water bottle and candy wrapper near the scene and a cell phone. The question now, was it the suspect's phone or a burner phone?

00:04:38 - 00:04:55 | Speaker 8:

It takes a while to develop forensics into a profile for DNA or fingerprint analysis. They already collected these things that are looking. The telephone is probably the easiest way to do it, and they're looking at that now, breaking it down. They believe all these things belong to the shooter. So he wasn't the professional that everybody thought he was.

00:04:55 - 00:05:19 | Speaker 4:

Kev found this, and I thought this was very interesting. If you Google the words that were found on those bullet casings to pose deny and defend um a book comes up called delay deny defend why insurance companies don't pay claims and what you can do about it interesting right or interesting coincidence no i think that's i don't know planned it's

00:05:19 - 00:05:35 | Speaker 2:

something out of a movie and somebody brought up was it john q john q yeah where it's like they wouldn't do but but they don't you know you didn't see uh denzel and john q go killing the the ceo of the thing but he did bring him in there right to take him hostage or whatever right

00:05:35 - 00:05:41 | Speaker 3:

he only had one bullet or it's the hospital yeah so i think it's very funny that i just

00:05:41 - 00:05:47 | Speaker 5:

joked about stabbing kev right into a very serious murder story but i do have a question though and

00:05:47 - 00:06:01 | Speaker 3:

i don't know maybe like one of those bad publicity things for the company so we may never know But in that clip, it said he had a bottle of water and some candy. I want to know what the candy was. It's the candy that a guy who's about to kill someone is just eating. Snickers bar.

00:06:02 - 00:06:08 | Speaker 6:

Hungry by way. Is it your favorite thing ever and it might be the last thing? Like, if I'm going to get caught, am I going to have my last favorite thing?

00:06:08 - 00:06:30 | Speaker 4:

Oh, weird thoughts. Okay. Barstool sports founder Dave Portnoy trending this morning after revealing that he still shares a bank account with his estranged wife. So he split from his wife Renee back in 2017. They never formally got divorced. And he says he still lets her have access to his two hundred and fifty million dollar fortune whenever she wants.

00:06:30 - 00:06:52 | Speaker 1:

She's not like give me half. And we've been separated legally for a long time. The judge said our agreement wasn't equitable to her. They're like, he's worth a lot more. You have to give half. She's like, I want half. Like, wow, we pretty much agreed on how we do it. So we're going to do it in Florida. But we've had that joint bank account and it so forever. Like, I trust her implicitly.

00:06:53 - 00:07:43 | Speaker 4:

Did you guys see this controversy that's happening with Britney Spears and her new jewelry line that she's been teasing for a while now? So she's been talking about this one-of-a-kind jewelry brand, Be Tiny, is what it's called, on her social media. And she's claimed all along that the pieces are her own original designs. Well, online sleuths are now looking at the photos of Britney's one-of-a-kind original jewelry. and they're like they are literally identical to those from other jewelry websites and i'm not just talking about the like the necklaces and the rings and stuff i'm talking even the photos are the same photo except she'll put her her logo on it drop shipping yeah so just a heads up if you want to buy anything it's like you could go to a plethora of different sites and buy the exact same thing

00:07:43 - 00:07:48 | Speaker 6:

exactly yeah she needs another perfume a legitimate company to reach out and do another perfume

00:07:49 - 00:07:50 | Speaker 2:

Is she still relevant enough, though?

00:07:51 - 00:08:27 | Speaker 6:

I think her perfume was so iconic that, like, that could be a successful business. I never had hers. I had J-Lo's. I never had Britney's. But, like, look at how many companies are doing cool team-ups. Like, we just had, what was it? Was it Balenciaga and Skim? No, it wasn't Balenciaga. But who did Kourtney Kardashian's wedding dress that they were fighting about? Was it Dolce & Gabbana? Yes. So Skims did, like, a Dolce & Gabbana collab, and, like, I think a lot of these, like, different big companies are now teaming up with each other. So I think to do, like, a Britney Spears and fill in the, like, perfume company.

00:08:28 - 00:08:53 | Speaker 4:

Charlie XCX is sharing how she now has nerve damage in her neck from going so hard on stage, particularly with Troye Sivan. She said the stage is an angry place for her. And she does a lot of damage, like a lot of physical damage to her body from performing. And she said that she's often in a lot of pain when she performs because of what she's done over the years.

00:08:54 - 00:09:11 | Speaker 6:

Is she going that hard or is she just being a brat? No, she's that cool. I got that. I got that. I got it. I'm dumb. Can I tell you really quickly, though, the best merch ever? Hayley Williams from Paramore injured her neck so severely. she got an x-ray of it and put it on a t-shirt and sold it as paramore merch so good from head

00:09:11 - 00:09:27 | Speaker 4:

banging on stage and lastly i teased this story earlier today the language learning company babble um has released a list of the words that are the most pronounced in 2024 by news anchors politicians and other public figures like radio hosts sitting across from me do you know what the

00:09:27 - 00:09:34 | Speaker 2:

00:10:00 - 00:10:06 | Speaker 3:

Keegan is not Keegan or Keegan or Kagan or Kohen. It's Keegan.

00:10:07 - 00:10:12 | Speaker 8:

By the way, where has Kamala Harris been? Where do you want her to be?

00:10:12 - 00:10:13 | Speaker 4:

The White House?

00:10:13 - 00:10:18 | Speaker 8:

She has not. No, you haven't seen her at all. Like we had Biden doing the whole Hunter Biden thing.

00:10:18 - 00:10:19 | Speaker 3:

She's been laying low and very quiet.

00:10:19 - 00:10:40 | Speaker 8:

You haven't seen her doing anything or saying anything or like being out. I saw that one video she did last week over Thanksgiving from Hawaii, and people thought that she looked like she might have been drunk or something in it, but I think that I think that I'm surprised that we haven't seen her or heard from her since the election. I was drunk on Thanksgiving time.

00:10:41 - 00:10:44 | Speaker 4:

Do you think they're trying to do the more like peaceful transition

00:10:44 - 00:10:58 | Speaker 8:

of power thing? I don't know, because I think that you know, have you seen like a bunch of people are turning against President Biden for pardoning Hunter? Yesterday, the governor of California, Gavin Newsom, came out and said that he thought that that was a horrible thing to do, but

This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

00:12:18 - 00:13:03 | Speaker 1:

I would say Bishop State's like a home for people. It may not be like a four-year where you have a dorm, you have a roommate, you have a rec center, But it's still a place you can go meet new people, classmates, put in the hallway, make friends with advisors on all these teachers and everything like that. It's just a place you can feel like yourself and not try to be the thing you don't want to be. With this program, I learned networking a lot. We've had two dinners with heads of different companies dealing with shipping or even game design builds, dealing with AutoCAD or 3D modeling. So really being able to meet new people or meet heads of new people has been really helpful. I don't come from a wealthy family, so four years, we're kind of not out the picture, but less probable for me to go to. Bishop State with my scholarship, it cut my price in half and made it way easier for me to go to school for the same 12 credits I would go for a four-year.
