Mojo in the Morning's Dirty on the 30s.

00:02:37 - 00:02:58 | Speaker 5:

Shannon, while we start off the dirty this morning, we have a very special guest here with us this morning. This man is the Senior Vice President of Business Operations for the Detroit Tigers. His name is Bobby Hoekstra. Yeah! And Bobby, if you can get us heaters, Well, look at you, man. Are you a former player or what's the story?

00:02:58 - 00:03:03 | Speaker 3:

I wish. I keep telling them I'm ready, but they haven't put me on the field yet.

00:03:03 - 00:03:07 | Speaker 5:

Will you play on my JCC Men's League team, for gosh sakes? We need a center. What's happening?

00:03:08 - 00:03:09 | Speaker 3:

If you've got a spot, let's do it.

00:03:09 - 00:03:15 | Speaker 5:

So tell us, how excited are you for the opening day game today, but also just the start of the season?

00:03:16 - 00:03:29 | Speaker 3:

Thrilled. You know, this is a huge milestone for us every year and something we're working towards all offseason. So, you know, when you're in the winter, everything's dark and cold. We finally made it. It's summer. It's baseball. Tigers are back. So it's a great day in Detroit.

00:03:30 - 00:03:38 | Speaker 5:

What does a job like yours entail? Like, are you dealing with all the fans in the stands, dealing with the players and contracts? What do you do? What's your job?

00:03:39 - 00:03:54 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, it's anything and everything. So, you know, I oversee our finance side, too. But that's every dollar in and out we're analyzing. But then just business strategy, we want to, you know, bring in as much money as we can on the business side. and then we're going to go spend that all on our baseball team and make sure we're making smart decisions about how we do that.

00:03:54 - 00:04:10 | Speaker 5:

All right. All right. I like this. And you've got a lot of players that are literally up and coming. They're on first year or first contracts and stuff like that. So you've got your work cut out for you, especially after the way that that team came on at the end of the last season too.

00:04:10 - 00:04:31 | Speaker 3:

Absolutely. It's getting exciting on the field. Obviously, we have our young core and so many guys that we're excited about that are going to be here for a long time. And then we're also going to work supplementing that. So, you know, as you can see, whether it's with Flaherty, Cobb, Taurus, all these guys, like we spent some money this offseason. We're going to keep doing that. We just got to keep finding it, and we'll go find something to spend it on.

00:04:31 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 5:

It's interesting. You know, I follow baseball a lot. Kev's a huge NBA guy, so he follows the NBA a lot. And also I know a lot of our listeners are fantasy people, too. But it's wild because I really – there was a couple of free agents I thought we were going to get, And then I started reading some of the stories about, like, Bregman and stuff, where they said we were very close to getting him. Sometimes I feel like the ones you miss out on are actually good for you, that you miss out on them. And then the ones that you end up getting, like the Flaherty one.

00:05:00 - 00:05:08 | Speaker 4:

And getting him back, the fact that you guys were able to trade him, get a bunch of good prospects, and then bring him back, he obviously likes it here enough to be able to re-sign with you guys.

00:05:09 - 00:05:33 | Speaker 5:

Yeah, I mean, that one worked out about as good as any deadline trade can. You know, we got awesome players. We love Sweeney and Lorenzo. Jack gets to go win a World Series and then come back home to us. So that one's great. And then, you know, even just the offseason, you never know what's going to happen, what deals are going to come to fruition or not. That's what makes our jobs stressful but also very fun because you literally don't know what's going to be available, and you've got to be agile and quick when you see the right opportunities.

00:05:34 - 00:05:49 | Speaker 1:

Real quick, 25 years we're celebrating this year. Being the head of BO, I know that doesn't sound as sexy as business operations, but I'm a short guy. BO, give me some sneak peeks, man, some surprises that we can expect from you guys this season.

00:05:50 - 00:06:26 | Speaker 5:

Yeah, so we've got a lot on deck to help celebrate our 25th season here. We've amplified our theme weekends. We have one specifically tied to our 25th anniversary celebration, so there's going to be a lot of vintage look-backs and things that people have loved about this park the entire time here. But we've got the full promotional calendar this year. There's stuff to get excited about all summer, whether that's our giveaways, more of our theme weekends. So we've got Strikeout Cancer Weekend. We have Black and Baseball Weekend. We have Fiesta Tigres, all of our different theme nights throughout on single games too. So there's something for everybody. There's a ton of reasons to get to Comerica Park this year. We're going to have a lot of fun.

00:06:26 - 00:06:50 | Speaker 4:

I want that jacket. Look at this. I know. That looks like you. Do they have that in the team store here? Oh, yeah. These are in the store. Buddy. Bobby Hoekstra. Where's your office at around here? Where are you at? Are you up in one of these offices up here? Yeah, we're over there. Hold on. Where's Chris at? Where's Mr. Illich at? Is he right around here? He's got a suite up there. All right.

00:06:50 - 00:06:52 | Speaker 5:

He'll be at the park today. I love it.

00:06:52 - 00:07:15 | Speaker 4:

I don't know if he's here yet. Tell him that Mojo and Shannon and Kevin said thank you for having us out. We really appreciate it, buddy. Thank you. Absolutely. Love to have you guys here. I love it. Love this team. I love the Tigers. I'm going to tell you this. I mean, obviously, look at what we got right here, okay? We just saw that their season gave us so much excitement. This team gave us so much excitement going into the football season. It's cool to see winning going on in Detroit again. It's a great sports town.

00:07:16 - 00:07:36 | Speaker 5:

Oh, yeah. Obviously, we love everyone coming alive for what we're doing. Our two playoff games last year with 45,000 people here. We'll have 45,000 again today. It's awesome to see the city come alive and not just for us, you know, seeing, you know, the wings are on an upward trajectory, but also what the Pistons and Lions have been doing. Amazing time to be in Detroit as a sports fan.

00:07:36 - 00:07:40 | Speaker 4:

And great job with Jason Benetti last year, too. I love him. That was a great move.

00:07:40 - 00:07:50 | Speaker 5:

Yeah, he's been so awesome for our broadcast and he, I could listen to him talk all day. The references, the stories, like he is a sharp guy.

00:07:50 - 00:07:52 | Speaker 3:

And also just as a human being, a really great guy.

00:07:52 - 00:07:58 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, he came on with us and has been good to us. So I appreciate you so much. Come on again with us.

00:07:58 - 00:08:01 | Speaker 5:

Hey, I'm here when you need me. Basketball, radio, whatever you need.

00:08:02 - 00:08:02 | Speaker 1:

Let's get it.

00:08:03 - 00:08:06 | Speaker 4:

I'm a double X. I'll talk to you in a second. Have you got a double?

00:08:07 - 00:08:08 | Speaker 5:

Jackets, too. We'll work on that.

00:08:08 - 00:08:12 | Speaker 4:

All right. Thanks, Bob. I appreciate you so much, man. Shannon, what's up in the dirty?

00:08:12 - 00:08:16 | Speaker 3:

No, Lucho showed up as it's 30 degrees warmer than it was an hour ago.

00:08:16 - 00:08:19 | Speaker 4:

You want to know what players to sign? This guy right here, this is our boss, Tony Travato, here.

00:08:20 - 00:08:22 | Speaker 5:

I heard that it was sunny, so I wanted to come out. Yeah.

00:08:22 - 00:08:54 | Speaker 3:

Nice and warm. This is great now. That's great now. All right, let's get into the dirty. This Michigan couple that's been in a Mexican prison for the past month over a timeshare dispute, finally yesterday came back home to Michigan. Christy and Paula Kayo had been behind bars in a maximum security prison in Cancun after being accused of defrauding Palace Resorts out of more than $116,000. So yesterday they were on a private jet with Michigan Representative Tom Barrett coming home.

00:08:54 - 00:09:16 | Speaker 2:

Mr. President, it's Tom Barrett, and I'm here with Paul and Christy Akaio. We are on our way back to the United States. Thank you so much for your help, your investment in this cause, and your team, and everything you did to help them get loose and get free and come back to America. We wanted to thank you so much for all your help. Thank you so much, President Trump. We appreciate it more than you even know.

00:09:16 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 3:

By the way, the reason that they're profusely thanking President Trump is because just about a week ago, the president got word of this, reached out to his hostage team to resolve this immediately. Some drama is unfolding in the Beckham family, as in David and Victoria Beckham. Two of the boys are not speaking to each other. And this all has to do with a woman. Brooklyn and Romeo Beckham are not on speaking terms at the moment. And a woman named Kim Turnbull is at the center of this. So Kim hooked up with Brooklyn several years ago. He's now married to Nicola pelt but his brother romeo is now hooking up with kim right you know what they need so they shared they're shared a woman all in the family what they

00:10:00 - 00:10:12 | Speaker 4:

need to keep them together is what Bruce Willis and Demi Moore's kids do. They need to bathe together. Okay. You said, Zanette? Okay. They need to all, that's how they keep a family together

00:10:12 - 00:11:26 | Speaker 1:

when you're dating the same person. Well, here's the thing. This, this is now gotten to the point where Brooklyn and Romeo will not even be in the same place at the same time if Kim is there. So Brooklyn and his wife absent from David's big 50th birthday party because Romeo and Kim were there. Brooklyn and Nicola skipped Victoria Beckham's fashion show last month because Kim was there. So this is not good. How good is the loving? Sheesh. Yeah. And lastly, lower back. Bended like Beckham. Lower back tattoos, also known as tramp stamps, are becoming popular again, you guys. Tattoo artists are saying they've seen upticks in requests for tramp stamps. And it's a lot of younger people who want these. And it's females specifically wanting to reclaim negative stereotypes, which were once used to kind of, you know, like trash them because everybody thought that a tramp stamp was trashy. Well, no longer. The tramp stamp is now a form of empowerment. and a lot of people are realizing that the lower back is the perfect spot for a decorative piece of body art. So it's coming back. I like that. Getting a second way. You know what?

00:11:27 - 00:12:16 | Speaker 4:

No, go ahead. No, I was going to say, I will never forget the contest we did for Kid Rock tickets when we did a Gramp stamp and we had a Grandma and Grandpa gift. Yeah, it was a great contest. You want the top five songs in the country? I do. Let's go. Top five songs number... Come on, Drake. Number five in the country. Your favorite. Pink Pony Club. Shopple Room. Yeah, you love this. Yes. This is your walk-up song, right? Pink Pony Club. Yes, this is going to be my song today. If a player did it, I bet he would get a lot of girls going crazy. Coming in at number four. Morgan Wallen. Just in case. Number four song in the country right now on the Billboard Hot 100 charts. Let me hear that. Zach, crank that up. I want to hear that song. over the Pelicans.

00:12:19 - 00:12:26 | Speaker 3:

Is this a song that he performed this on SNL? Yeah.

00:12:33 - 00:12:35 | Speaker 4:

What do you think? No?

00:12:35 - 00:12:36 | Speaker 3:

It's not for me.

00:12:36 - 00:12:36 | Speaker 4:

No.

00:12:37 - 00:12:39 | Speaker 1:

I like every Morgan Wallen song.

00:12:39 - 00:12:39 | Speaker 4:

Yeah?

00:12:39 - 00:12:41 | Speaker 3:

But I mean, A Summer Night, maybe on a boat,

00:12:41 - 00:12:43 | Speaker 1:

a little drinking. This one's a little slow.

00:12:44 - 00:12:48 | Speaker 4:

Number three song in the country. It's still on the charts. Good Lord. Shaboozy.

00:12:49 - 00:12:53 | Speaker 1:

This is already playing at some tailgate somewhere around Kilmerka Park right now.

00:12:54 - 00:13:12 | Speaker 4:

Yeah. Tipsy. Number two song in the country. Lady Gaga, Bruno Mars. So far, no Drake. No Kendrick. No Kendrick. That's surprising. All right. Die with a smile.

00:13:13 - 00:13:19 | Speaker 2:

By the way, did you notice that Tony Travato comes out when it's warmer

00:13:19 - 00:13:25 | Speaker 4:

and he thinks that all the complaining we did all day was a bunch of bull crap?

00:13:25 - 00:13:27 | Speaker 1:

I'm fine now, aren't you? I know, this is nice.

00:13:27 - 00:13:43 | Speaker 4:

If it was like this at 5 o'clock this morning, we'd all be good. You got some players out here stretching now, too. And the number one song right now in the country. Andre, SZA, Luther

00:13:43 - 00:13:56 | Speaker 2:
