This time of the year is a very happy but also can be a very sad time of the year. And Shannon wants to bring up this morning something on the air that I think that there's a number of our listeners that can relate to it.

00:01:17 - 00:03:28 | Speaker 2:

It's actually my least favorite moment of the whole entire year. And I dread it every year. And I have dreaded it for the past three years now. and it's I know it's coming up so I can already feel it in in my chest a little bit but it's the moment on Christmas day when I have to leave my kids it is a gut-wrenching wow how does it wait how does that work as far as you guys split time yes so Andrew and I split and we all we have the same arrangement for Christmas every single year and it's my family celebrates Christmas Eve that's always been our thing. So the kids and I go to church on Christmas Eve and then we head down to my mom's house on Grosseal and my family all comes over there and we celebrate. And then I will come back to my house. And depending on the year, every other year we do switch this. I have to take them to Andrew's house this year. And so they'll wake up at his house on Christmas morning. I'll go over there in the morning when they wake up. We'll do our Christmas. But then he gets christmas day and so at some point on christmas morning after the presents are all open and we eat breakfast it's time for me to leave and it it's the it's the the worst feeling in the whole entire world because for the rest of the day i'm like oh i i wish i was with my kids i wonder what they're doing and still you know three years later i am just dreading it this year so is christmas day just a really tough one for you then it is like the morning is so happy and I love I love that we will still do that this year of you know we will watch them open their gifts together and stuff but when it's time for me to go um I hate it I mean I cry I cry really really freaking hard and I was reminded of this yesterday because I was talking to I had to drop off something for loose at her school and I ended up getting into a conversation with one of her teachers who actually i did not know was divorced and she asked me she said what are you doing on christmas day this year you know after you have to leave the kids and i'm like oh don't even remind me that it's coming up but she's like i drink so many mimosas that i put myself to sleep wow and i

00:03:28 - 00:03:41 | Speaker 3:

you know it's it's wild because you know i i didn't experience divorce of my parents and didn't haven't been divorced from my wife so i'll give you my kids i mean yeah i know if you're really

00:03:42 - 00:03:57 | Speaker 2:

What I've started doing is I will go to my dad's house because my dad and my stepmom will be by themselves. And so that's actually been really nice to be able to spend time with them. But it's still like I love my dad and I love my stepmom. Oh, my gosh, so much. It's I mean, I would I would love to be.

00:03:57 - 00:04:37 | Speaker 3:

Can I tell you that any time that Chelsea and I have ever had like real tough times in our marriage, I honestly think about the holidays and what it would have been like and what it could be like, God forbid, if we had to celebrate Christmas or Easter or other holidays separately. And it kind of has been one of my things that has helped me kind of get through some tough times. But I think when you're telling me this, this is gut-wrenching for a lot of people. I think there's a lot of people like you who you want to be with your kids at all times. And yet they should be with their dad also, right? And it's probably awkward if you guys are all together at the same time, even though you guys, I don't know.

00:04:37 - 00:04:50 | Speaker 2:

Well, and we are going to be together in the morning. It's just I know that moment of when I leave Anders' house and I go back to my house in the morning and it's just me and the dog and there's nothing. It's just quiet. It's the worst.

00:04:50 - 00:04:52 | Speaker 3:

Kirsten wants to talk to you. What's up, Kirsten?

00:04:53 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 1:

Hi, Shannon. I go through literally the exact same thing every Christmas. I'm also going on my.

00:05:00 - 00:05:25 | Speaker 7:

third year doing it and leaving my kids it's awful on christmas and i do the same thing i go to my mom and my stepdad's house so i totally feel you but what's helpful is they get so excited about going to their dads and spending time with their family over there that that's helpful to me knowing that they're happy there you know so just try to remember that shan yeah yeah ashley hi

00:05:25 - 00:05:32 | Speaker 8:

hello good morning what's going on um i just wanted to talk about being a child of divorced

00:05:32 - 00:05:37 | Speaker 4:

parents around the holidays that's a good perspective to bring in yeah yeah it's super

00:05:37 - 00:05:48 | Speaker 8:

stressful especially as you get older like i'm 23 now and my parents will be planning things on certain days and just trying to make it everywhere at once is super hard yeah yeah yeah

00:05:48 - 00:05:58 | Speaker 6:

and and that's me as well i mean my parents got divorced when i was in kindergarten so i always split my time on christmas so i get it you know from both sides has it ever been tough for the

00:05:58 - 00:06:08 | Speaker 4:

kids like where the kids just didn't want you to leave or like has that ever happened um or even on christmas eve with them not being with their dad no because i think they're so excited like

00:06:08 - 00:06:21 | Speaker 6:

they're still little and just so excited to spend time you know with cousins on both sides and open more gifts on both sides that's like the only good part about being a kid in a divorce situation is you get presents on both sides but you guys have been blessed that you and andrew get along

00:06:21 - 00:06:31 | Speaker 5:

so that the fact if there was a troubled time, you welcomed each other to help make it easy for the kids. Yeah. You didn't ever put the kids in an awkward position. You put them first.

00:06:32 - 00:06:34 | Speaker 4:

Yeah. What's going on, Jenna?

00:06:35 - 00:06:38 | Speaker 10:

How are you? Shannon made me cry.

00:06:39 - 00:06:40 | Speaker 4:

Yeah.

00:06:40 - 00:06:52 | Speaker 10:

I'm sorry. I had my moment yesterday. Yeah, she made me cry. My kids are adults, and I very rarely see them on Christmas, and I'm home alone on Christmas Day.

00:06:53 - 00:07:15 | Speaker 5:

Well, that's the part I didn't want to bring up to Mojo when he was talking about how he always thinks about how lucky he is. He's the family unit every holiday. Mojo and I are about to enter that second phase of where the kids move away and start their own lives. And, I mean, Mojo, this might be one of the last years where all three of your kids are under the same roof because everybody's moving into different parts of the country.

00:07:15 - 00:07:31 | Speaker 4:

Well, I think as long as they all are not, like, married with their own kids, will hope that they'll come home, you know, because I try to, like, have our house be kind of like the family stone, so to speak, you know, like that movie where everybody comes home.

00:07:31 - 00:07:34 | Speaker 5:

But when they have significant others, sometimes they want to alternate. Yeah, I get that. Yeah.

00:07:34 - 00:07:48 | Speaker 4:

I'll be perfectly honest with you. I'll be perfectly honest with you. I actually, you know, think about that often. I think it's going to be harder for Chelsea than it will be for me because I am a non-sensitive a-hole. I'm sorry, what were you saying?

00:07:49 - 00:07:52 | Speaker 10:

My son's a police officer, so he always works.

00:07:52 - 00:07:57 | Speaker 4:

Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Well, thank him for that. Thank him so much for what he does.

00:07:59 - 00:08:01 | Speaker 10:

Thank you. Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas.

00:08:01 - 00:08:13 | Speaker 4:

Merry Christmas to you. What's happening? Hold on a second here. Who do I grab? Let's grab something here. I don't know what to grab. Well, Nicole's doing it.

00:08:13 - 00:08:14 | Speaker 5:

She's got a good solution.

00:08:15 - 00:08:17 | Speaker 4:

Okay. Nicole, what's your solution?

00:08:18 - 00:08:47 | Speaker 9:

um no i just wanted to tell shannon i understand what she's saying because this is my first year my daughter's father moved out of state but she's going to texas for christmas this year um so i'm very beyond depressed because she's my only child um but what me and my sister and my cousin are doing or we're getting together for a girl's brunch that morning because her daughter's going with her dad so instead of being at home being sad we're gonna get together like Watch Christmas movies and have mimosas. It's great.

00:08:48 - 00:08:51 | Speaker 6:

Mimosas make everything better. For a little while, at least.

00:08:51 - 00:09:04 | Speaker 4:

And you can also order Chinese food, which is always good, too. It's a good thing to have on Christmas. I always say that that's my favorite thing. All my Jewish friends have Chinese food on Christmas for some reason. That's like the thing that they'll do.

00:09:04 - 00:09:05 | Speaker 3:

Because they're the restaurants that are open.

00:09:06 - 00:09:08 | Speaker 4:

That's it, yeah. It's like a Christmas story.

00:09:09 - 00:09:24 | Speaker 3:
