00:01:52 - 00:02:05 | Speaker 5:

Do I have to call it that? Spike, you went out for breakfast, and you were just trying to enjoy a nice meal. And what did you come across?

00:02:05 - 00:02:57 | Speaker 4:

Well, you know, sometimes a restaurant will give a dish just a downright silly name. And this weekend I went to like a Coney-style breakfast joint in Port Huron. Found myself wanting to order the yummy, scrummy, fluffy pancakes. And I just felt weird saying it. So I just asked for the apple cinnamon pancakes. The waitress is like, which ones? So I like pointed to the menu and she's like, the oatmeal? I'm like, no, the pancakes. And I'm pointing. And then I really, she's trying to make me say it. So I had to order the yummy, scrummy, fluffy pancakes. And I was like, you know what? I'm bringing this up on the air because some restaurants are just too eager to be clever and show off their creative genius. And they're so witty. And so menus go overboard with naming dishes or naming drinks. And entrees are little puns or pop culture references. And I'm like, do I have to use the exact menu name?

00:02:58 - 00:03:02 | Speaker 5:

Did you ever go to IHOP and order the Rudy Tootie Fresh and Fruity?

00:03:02 - 00:03:37 | Speaker 4:

When I was in high school. Or the Moon Over My Hammy. Was that IHOP or Denny's? That was Denny's. Yeah. Now, listen, in high school, I would name it. I was fine with that. But, I mean, I'm not as bad as some of my friends who refuse to even order Starbucks drinks by their size because they don't like grande and venti. And, like, they're like, it's a small. I'm like, if you say small, Starbucks doesn't care. They'll give you a small. They're not going to put up a fight. This waitress was trying to make me say yummy, scrummy, fluffy pancakes. I was like, okay, I'm just.

00:03:37 - 00:03:42 | Speaker 5:

I always like when bars do that, like you said, with drinks. Yeah. You go to a bar and you're trying to go.

00:03:42 - 00:03:53 | Speaker 4:

And it's a really dirty name or something. I'm looking at it and I'm going, I really would like to try. This happened to me. I really would like to try the Shirley Shirley, but I'm just going to order a beer.

00:03:54 - 00:04:08 | Speaker 5:

We went to Atlanta. Every year we would go for Norm's party. And Johnny Dare one time wanted to just get, all he wanted was Jameson and a beer, which is what he drinks all the time.

00:04:08 - 00:04:09 | Speaker 4:

Gentleman's drink.

00:04:09 - 00:04:31 | Speaker 5:

Yeah. Yeah, and the girl goes, I don't know. She didn't know because they had, it was, I think it might have been a Shannon pick of a place that we went to. It's like a more fufu place. Like, I think we went to a bar or something and Shannon's like, this place is going to be fun. And we walked inside and Johnny's like, there's nobody here with long hair and tattoos, you know.

00:04:32 - 00:04:53 | Speaker 4:

The bars he takes us to smell like bleach and the floors haven't been cleaned in 27 years. Well, and Johnny and I, like, it's an Irish gentleman's drink. You get a shot of Jameson, and then you follow it up with your nice dark Guinness or whatever. But a lot of people want to make a Boilermaker or some fancy drink where you drop the shot in the beer, and you're doing it. I'm like, no, no, no.

00:04:53 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 5:

The girl came out with a fancy glass. It was literally, and Johnny goes.

00:05:00 - 00:05:09 | Speaker 8:

No, I don't need the glass And she goes I'm sorry But we serve it in the glass She goes Basically And she's like I don't want the fancy glass He kept calling it The fancy glass

00:05:09 - 00:05:12 | Speaker 7:

I don't want The fancy glass Right The shot glass

00:05:12 - 00:05:24 | Speaker 8:

844 Mojo Live 844-665-6548 If you're somebody That works in a restaurant You have to call us up And tell us Does the owner Of the restaurant Make the names Of these things Just so he can laugh At the people That are pronouncing these

00:05:24 - 00:05:35 | Speaker 7:

Like do they come Some of them Get so gimmicky Some restaurants I go in, I'm like, are we at a children's birthday party? I can't order these things. Yeah. I just want a drink.

00:05:35 - 00:05:39 | Speaker 8:

That's the funny thing is that you're at a Coney. Yeah.

00:05:39 - 00:05:48 | Speaker 7:

You know what I mean? I get it if we're in Disney World and they all theme drinks and you're going to name them. Oh, that place. You know, it's like, okay, I'll order the Goofy's Punch or whatever.

00:05:50 - 00:05:54 | Speaker 3:

You're in the happiest place on earth. You can suck it up for a day and order the Goofy's Punch.

00:05:54 - 00:06:02 | Speaker 7:

That makes it fun for the people that are there and for kids. It's like you have the silly names, but in the morning, I just want some pancakes.

00:06:02 - 00:06:06 | Speaker 8:

I don't want a guy in a costume dressed up as a mouse making me a drink.

00:06:06 - 00:06:19 | Speaker 9:

You know what I mean? At the restaurant that I worked at that was family friendly, they would edit their menu. And so it was a sand in your shorts. And I loved when like 40 year old dudes would be like, I would love to drink a sand in your shorts. What was that? A sex on the beach. Oh.

00:06:20 - 00:06:21 | Speaker 7:

Wait.

00:06:21 - 00:06:23 | Speaker 9:

They didn't want to have sex on the beach.

00:06:23 - 00:06:23 | Speaker 7:

They didn't have sex on the menu.

00:06:24 - 00:06:27 | Speaker 8:

Speaking of that, hold on. I'm looking because you worked at Red Robin.

00:06:27 - 00:06:28 | Speaker 9:

That is where it was.

00:06:29 - 00:06:29 | Speaker 8:

Wait.

00:06:30 - 00:06:30 | Speaker 7:

I'm looking at.

00:06:31 - 00:06:32 | Speaker 9:

It's trying to avoid it.

00:06:33 - 00:06:42 | Speaker 8:

There's one of their drinks I love so much, and it makes me embarrassed to order, but it's like freckled something. Freckled lemonade. I would like the freckled lemonade.

00:06:43 - 00:06:45 | Speaker 9:

Every time a man ordered that, I was like, yeah, you do.

00:06:47 - 00:06:51 | Speaker 7:

I love the freckled lemonade, but it's silly. Can't they just call it? Strawberry lemonade.

00:06:52 - 00:06:53 | Speaker 9:

It's a strawberry lemonade.

00:06:53 - 00:06:54 | Speaker 8:

Jacob, what's happening?

00:06:55 - 00:07:13 | Speaker 3:

Hey, how's it going? I love you guys There's a bar in Ann Arbor And it has the blue balls Blueberry cocktail that you can get Nobody wants to get blue balls They made me say it And I was like oh man okay

00:07:13 - 00:07:43 | Speaker 8:

See now that's funny That's okay I'm good with that I'll take that Jacob That sounds like that would be kind of fun You know what I actually You brought up Moons over my hammy I used to love, and Chelsea thought I was really weird, I used to love trying to go to Denny's for lunch. I would say to her, she would say to me, she'd go, hey, do you have time today? You guys want to grab some lunch? And I'd go, yeah. And she'd go, where do you want to go? I'd go, let's go to Denny's.

00:07:43 - 00:07:53 | Speaker 9:

What? Sampler? No, you go to Denny's late night, though. I would always go late night. There are two acceptable times to go to Denny's. Sunday morning, after midnight. 2 a.m.

00:07:53 - 00:07:58 | Speaker 8:

That's it. And that's what she said. She's like, Denny's? I didn't even know they were open during the day.

00:07:58 - 00:08:01 | Speaker 9:

So sorry for those waitresses at night.

00:08:01 - 00:08:20 | Speaker 8:

Chelsea's fear was going in and seeing what it looked like with the lights on. Like, I don't want to see what it actually, what kind of mess was made by people the night before. Neither new nor improved, but still better than the rest. Just mojo in the morning.

00:08:20 - 00:08:45 | Speaker 4:
