Hey, Mom, now that I have an after-school job, I think I want to buy a drum kit.

00:00:04 - 00:00:11 | Speaker 3:

Okay, Rockstar, let's look at your account. When kids start making money, Chase has easy-to-use tools and expert bankers to help them learn how to manage it.

00:00:11 - 00:00:16 | Speaker 7:

And next month, I'll buy the bass drum and the cymbals. Oh, and maybe some noise-canceling headphones for you.

00:00:16 - 00:00:26 | Speaker 3:

Aw, you've thought of everything. Help kids save, budget, and build financial independence all with Chase. That's good for kids and good for parents. Visit your local Chase branch and get started.

Yes. I got ADD going today in a big way. Seriously. I was driving to work, and as I was driving to work, so I got a phone call from Joe. It's kind of cool. You know, it's really cool to have a son that works and does what you do. But he called me up at 4.50 or whatever. What are you doing? I go, what do you mean what am I doing? Not only have you been my son for 27 years, but you also do what I do. What do you think I'm doing? I'm driving to work. And he goes, no, no, I know. I just want, you know, that's what I'm going to say. And so we drove on the way to work together, and we were talking. And as we're talking and kind of doing our thing, I look up and I go, holy crap, I missed my exit. It was one of those situations. Yeah. And I thought it was an ADD moment as much as it was. Actually, it was like a cool moment for him. I was like excited for him. So he does the morning show in Tampa. And this is like the second time now that Elvis Duran, who, for those that don't know radio or not radio geeks like we are, Elvis is the king of kings in radio.

00:02:23 - 00:02:32 | Speaker 2:

Kind of started the whole format of morning radio. He's one of the people that pioneered the whole idea of a bunch of people coming in and entertaining, not just playing music in the morning.

00:02:32 - 00:03:03 | Speaker 4:

Z-100 in New York, but also syndicated on all these stations. Well, for the second time in like a year and a half, Elvis was listening to Joe's show on his podcast, heard a bit that they did, and actually took the bit that he did and started doing it on his show. So cool. And called him or first time, I think he wrote to him or, you know, reached out and wrote to him, called him personally and said, hey, I just want to let you know. I was like blown away by that because in radio, we all steal from everybody. You know what I mean? Like we all do that.

00:03:04 - 00:03:08 | Speaker 1:

But to ask for permission and give Joe credit and say, this is a great fit. I want to use it.

00:03:08 - 00:03:57 | Speaker 4:

So then he says, then he says to, to Joe, this is where it gets really cool. And this is honestly a proud dad moment for me. He says to Joe, he goes, what do you got going on next week? And Joe just didn't know what to say. And he says, ah, just the show, but that's it, nothing, why? And Elvis goes, I'm sending you a plane ticket. I want you to come and just hang out with us in our studio and just be with us. I want your vibes around our show. Shut up. Whoa. Wow. So after today's show, Joe is going to the airport and he's flying out for like a day. He's going to go, I think, have dinner with Elvis tonight and then tomorrow just hang out on a show. And then Elvis got him a hotel room, a plane ticket, and taking him to dinner. And then tomorrow he'll just go on a plane and go back to Tampa.

00:03:58 - 00:03:58 | Speaker 1:

That is so cool.

00:03:58 - 00:03:59 | Speaker 4:

Is that unbelievable?

00:04:00 - 00:04:00 | Speaker 5:

It's very cool.

00:04:00 - 00:04:02 | Speaker 1:

And what a testament to who Elvis is, too.

00:04:02 - 00:04:03 | Speaker 4:

Isn't that amazing?

00:04:03 - 00:04:04 | Speaker 1:

As a person.

00:04:05 - 00:04:41 | Speaker 4:

And for those that don't know this, when we started the Mojo in the Morning show way back when, Spike and myself and Sarah and Chad and Eric, Elvis oversaw our show. Like Elvis was our, he was, they called him mentors. He was a mentor. And remember how great he was with us when we first started? But he's always been that way. And I thought to myself with this, man, that would be so cool to have somebody just call you up and send you a plane ticket. And then I started thinking, here's what I'm going to do. I'm going to do that with another show, like how Elvis did, because that's kind of a cool moment to do that.

00:04:41 - 00:04:55 | Speaker 2:

I was just going to joke with you that now, full circle, 20 years later, you're mentoring a lot of new up-and-coming iHeartRadio shows. I was going to say, how long before New Era calls and wants a plane ticket? But you're saying you might actually do it.

00:04:55 - 00:05:02 | Speaker 4:

No, here's what I want to do. You have to be in driving distance of Detroit to do it. I'll pay for your gas.

00:05:02 - 00:05:02 | Speaker 1:

I got a gas card.

00:05:04 - 00:05:16 | Speaker 3:

And you can stay in, like, Joe's bedroom. Like, we have extra bedrooms or something like that, you know? Right, right. Mike, this is for you in Grand Rapids, buddy. You come over here. I got a Speedway gas card for you. You can stay up in, what do you think?

00:05:17 - 00:05:17 | Speaker 1:

Yeah.

00:05:17 - 00:05:19 | Speaker 3:

You know I would do it in a heart. I know you would. I know.

00:05:19 - 00:05:21 | Speaker 1:

Listen, you don't have that Elvis money. I mean, that's different.

00:05:21 - 00:05:47 | Speaker 3:

No, but I will say this about Elvis. I'm going to go on record with this. the guy is he is so i i love will you do me a favor if you're on social media at all and you see them tell elvis that mojo in the morning all of us here we have man crushes on him that we just love him so much and love what he does i hear so many stories he's such a positive guy yeah and

00:05:47 - 00:06:06 | Speaker 1:

behind this the curtain i hear so many stories in this industry that that things he's done and how he's helped people but he never wants credit like you don't hear these stories until like our friends in radio are hanging out drinking together you're like do you hear what elvis did and it's just he's just such a charitable kind guy yeah i actually reached out to him and sent him a text

00:06:06 - 00:07:32 | Speaker 3:

over the weekend and i said to him i go i go you have no idea like literally i had tears as a dad you know i hate talking i have tears as a dad because i don't want to get too involved with joe because i don't want people to think it's daddy ball you know what i mean like little league coaches you know always coach their kids and they're playing shortstop all the time and so i try to kind of like let him be on his own and there are times where i see others that are working with his show or that you know are involved in the show that i feel like maybe aren't the most positive of influences and i'm like man i want to get more involved with him but to have to know that Elvis is like such a mentor for him honestly I feel like he's good he's in he's in a good place so um and I've always been as Chelsea will attest to this in years of coaching my kids I never played daddy ball I actually went the opposite way which I regret dearly like I when I coached my kids and Mike when you coach Cecily and Milo uh don't screw this thing up okay you have every right to play your kid wherever the hell you want to play your kid i would not play my kids because i thought people were thinking about favoritism and my kids weren't the greatest at certain things and then i looked at it going my kid got screwed you know he never got the playing time that he deserves so definitely uh if you coach you put the hours in you deserve to do that looking back

00:07:32 - 00:07:59 | Speaker 2:
