Mojo in the morning show. Kev, for those who don't know, Kev works with the Pistons and Michigan State doing their games. And you had a guy come up to you and had an interesting story to tell you. What was that?

00:02:16 - 00:03:36 | Speaker 6:

Man, so one of my friends who I went to high school with at the Detroit High School for the Final Performing Arts. Big shout out to us. So he was in a grade younger than I was. And we were familiar. I would say we were cool. But we haven't talked that much post high school, obviously. But it's not totally out the blue that he would hit me up and I just would ignore. So he hit me up. He's like, hey, can I get your number? I need to call you. And I see the DM and I'm like, all right, you know, this is weird, but I'm intrigued. What does he want? Send him my number. He calls me immediately. He sounds frantic. he's like kind of breathing heavy hey kid what's going on i'm like hey what's up man what's going on he's like man and then he just unloaded this story on me that i was not prepared for and his story was that he didn't grow up with his father and for his entire life he's wanted to know who his father was and he's never been able to identify who his father is so he does 23 and me He tells me that he does 23andMe. He finds out who his father is. Unfortunately, his father has passed away, but he realizes that he has like four or five brothers and sisters. He contacts one of them. This is what he's telling me, this whole thing. And his point is that his brother is interested in entering the sports world, and he wants to know if the Pistons are hiring.

00:03:36 - 00:03:40 | Speaker 5:

So wait, oh, so he was trying to help out his now new brother that he found.

00:03:40 - 00:03:53 | Speaker 6:

Yes, like the first day he met this guy. He's already trying to help him out. And my mind is blown because I'm like, you think you're going to try to meet your father and then you find out that you got like four or five brothers and sisters and this whole other family that you had no idea about.

00:03:53 - 00:04:50 | Speaker 5:

I hear I hear a lot when people do those, you know, and back in the day when when was it that it was like 10 years ago, those things kind of came out. Do you remember John Ivey who who worked for us? John Ivey found out out of the blue that he had sisters that lived ready for this. like miles away from him and he had he is a radio guy that moved across the country like did radio you know all over the place and had settled back in nashville which he thought oh this would be a cool place to live did a 23 and me only to find out that he had a sister that lived just a mile or two miles down the road he could have been going to a kroger and walking in and being there in the back of her, you know, complaining about her taking slow time checking out or something, you know? Yeah. Isn't that crazy? So this guy, what did he think about the fact that he got a chance to, that's sad to know that his dad wasn't alive.

00:04:51 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 6:

I was blown away, to be honest with you. I was completely shocked. So I didn't ask too many questions. But I was kind of like, Uh, are,

00:05:00 - 00:05:08 | Speaker 4:

are you okay? Like that kind of thing. He was just kind of blown away. He was like, now I got to try to figure out how to develop a relationship. Cause they live all the way. Some live in California, some live in Arizona. He's here in Detroit.

00:05:09 - 00:05:26 | Speaker 3:

I wonder, I've always wondered this. Has anybody ever had this happen to them? And then they called their family member to say, Hey, I'm your family member. And they hung up the phone. Has anybody ever like had like gotten the donut? Don't even reach out to me type of a response off of that.

00:05:27 - 00:05:47 | Speaker 1:

I am just fascinated by people who have done 23 and me. And like your friend found out about like family members they didn't know about. Like they were doing it just to like fill out their family tree, you know, with great grandparents and stuff and discover their heritage. And instead they find out some crazy big secret. Like those stories just are mind blowing.

00:05:48 - 00:06:18 | Speaker 3:

I almost did 23andMe. I actually have a box at home of a 23andMe box that I bought a while ago. I wouldn't do it. Well, that was the thing. I would not do it. Chelsea, I told Chelsea, I'm going to do 23andMe. I think this would be great. And Chelsea's like, what? Why were you going to do that? And then you start realizing, oh, well, they didn't get your DNA and all the rest of this stuff. But then I started thinking, what if I found out that my dad, because we found out years later after my dad died that he had been married before. But what if we find out my dad's got kids out there or something? You know what I mean?

00:06:19 - 00:06:23 | Speaker 4:

I know I got brothers and sisters in Jamaica. You think so? Oh, for sure. My dad got too much.

00:06:24 - 00:06:26 | Speaker 3:

Wait, you think he was down there? You're not joking.

00:06:26 - 00:06:35 | Speaker 4:

I'm dead ass serious. What if Shaggy was your brother? I don't want to know. See, I only want to ask him. Can we come? I mean, you can ask him. I don't want to know. I ain't trying to meet nobody else.

00:06:36 - 00:06:37 | Speaker 3:

Brittany, what's going on? It's Mojo in the morning.

00:06:38 - 00:06:51 | Speaker 2:

Good morning. So my mom, many years ago, gave up a baby for adoption. And then like 15 years ago, the baby, who's an adult, reached out to my mom. And they realized that they only lived like 15 minutes away their whole life.

00:06:52 - 00:06:55 | Speaker 3:

Oh, my gosh. So did you guys reconnect? And are you guys family now?

00:06:55 - 00:07:13 | Speaker 2:

yeah it's kind of weird because they gave her up for adoption and then they adopted me like years later so that's kind of weird so the time timing was tough for them when they were having her yeah i think so my mom never talks about it she didn't even tell me until the child

00:07:13 - 00:07:26 | Speaker 3:

reached out to her that's how i found out do you like having a sibling though um yeah she's like 10 years older than me she's really nice yeah what if your sibling's better looking than you Would you be, like, upset by that?

00:07:28 - 00:07:28 | Speaker 2:

Eh, no.

00:07:29 - 00:07:38 | Speaker 3:

Okay, I would. What if your parent is on the verge of death and you're about to inherit everything and this sibling comes back into the... I don't know where. Yeah.

00:07:40 - 00:07:42 | Speaker 2:

I would love to find out all my mom's secrets that she has.

00:07:42 - 00:07:43 | Speaker 3:

Oh, really?

00:07:44 - 00:07:46 | Speaker 2:

Because there's so many things she does not tell me.

00:07:47 - 00:07:48 | Speaker 3:

Wow. What do you think the biggest one is?

00:07:49 - 00:07:58 | Speaker 2:

I mean, first of all, who the baby's dad is. My own, like, dad doesn't even know, because it's not my mom and dad's kid. It's my mom from before she met my dad, and she doesn't even know who the dad is.

00:07:59 - 00:08:01 | Speaker 3:

She won't tell you, though?

00:08:02 - 00:08:05 | Speaker 2:

No, she won't tell anyone. It's really weird, like, very weird.

00:08:06 - 00:08:11 | Speaker 3:

Interesting. It makes you be a little skeptical of every guy that comes around. What's up, Madison?

00:08:12 - 00:08:12 | Speaker 6:

Hello.

00:08:13 - 00:08:16 | Speaker 3:

Hi. You found out you had some brothers and sisters?

00:08:16 - 00:08:38 | Speaker 6:

Yeah, so about four, almost five years ago, my dad decided to move to Tennessee to go be closer to my brother. And before he left, I was going to my two kids over to have a barbecue to say bye and get some things from the house. And I get there, and I had a sister, a brother, and their mom show up.

00:08:38 - 00:08:39 | Speaker 3:

Oh, no.

00:08:40 - 00:08:59 | Speaker 6:

Yeah, and I was like, oh, hello. and now we talk all the time but it was really weird because i have 12 siblings and then you add two more to the mix and i was like oh okay yeah but at that point what's two more yeah a couple more burgers and hot dogs at a barbecue 12 to 14 i mean tomato tomato how many

00:08:59 - 00:09:07 | Speaker 3:

come in a pack of buns and burgers what's up melissa hey guys um so i actually my mom didn't

00:09:07 - 00:10:09 | Speaker 5:

tell me that my dad wasn't my dad until i was about 14 and then um when i ended up finding my dad he told me that i had a brother that was actually in the same town as me um i kind of did some research a little digging and ended up finding out that we went to high school together he was three years younger than me but we went to high school together and we actually went to the same church um and i kind of held off i would see him at church on sundays and it was just kind of looked like kind of was just observing because I didn't know his story you know and my dad did tell me that his he was adopted and his parents he didn't think they ever told him so I was like I'm not gonna say anything well it turns out I had another sister that I found and she said that she had reached out to him so that like via Facebook messenger or something so I was like okay well maybe I will too she did say he never responded well when I reached out he reached out to back to both of us. and said i'm not giving you guys any money i don't know who you guys are like he completely like blocked us i thought we were like hammers so and they actually still go to the church as well

00:10:09 - 00:10:15 | Speaker 3:

so what what if what if uh you dated this guy like you guys went to high school together what

00:10:15 - 00:10:39 | Speaker 5:

if you ended up dating him i know he was like he said he was younger but i mean only a few years so but yeah i still see him on sundays and i thought about maybe going up to his mom and having like a conversation with her and just saying hey you know i don't want anything you know i don't you know i don't it's completely up to you if you have never told him i just want to let you know who i am because you know it is kind of hard seeing him at church on sunday you know

00:10:39 - 00:10:56 | Speaker 4:

from a distance that's crazy did you ever watch that documentary on netflix i told you to watch about the sperm donor guy yes yeah with a thousand kids that's what i think about with this is like you have to tell your kids because what if they start dating yes well and that doesn't mean they'll

00:10:56 - 00:11:15 | Speaker 3:

tell you before they do anything yeah and it becomes crazy that yeah they they do become intertwined how about dallas's one dallas this is actually a good one uh your niece found out through doing one of these dna tests that who was their sibling no no no what happened was my niece

00:11:15 - 00:11:56 | Speaker 2:

had a nail tech on instagram that she liked so she went to go get her nails done and the nail tech saw a tattoo on her arm she's i like that tattoo she said oh thanks that's for my uh my grandmother who passed away who's from detroit they were in oakland california when this happened so the nail tech goes oh and i got family from detroit too oh yeah really they talked for a little bit she got back on the tattoo she said yeah my my uh father is a jazz musician she said oh yeah my family's really into jazz she said who's your father and the girl goes oh milt jackson she said girl we're family and they're looking both looking at each other like you lying no you lion and you know so my niece called me and asked some questions and we found out that my

00:11:56 - 00:12:01 | Speaker 4:

my little uh cousin wait hold on a second this is in california this is happening

00:12:01 - 00:12:21 | Speaker 3:

are you talking milt milt jackson the the jazz performer yeah that's my dad that's funny man by the way i would instantly go this person's trying to get themselves some deals on a set.

00:12:23 - 00:12:25 | Speaker 2:

No, milk passed away 20 years. We're in 2000.

00:12:25 - 00:12:30 | Speaker 3:

No, I know, but I'm thinking that your cousin's trying to get a deal on nails from the nail tech.

00:12:31 - 00:12:39 | Speaker 2:

No, no, no, no. She was family. I brought her here. This all happened this year. I brought her here to meet her uncle, who was the last Jackson, original Jackson 5.

00:12:41 - 00:12:57 | Speaker 3:

That's craziness. Wow. That is awesome. Hey, listen to this one here. Megan's friend that she knew all through school. Megan, are you there? Megan, the listener? Hi. Hi, how are you? Good. Tell us a story about your friend from high school.

00:12:58 - 00:13:21 | Speaker 6:

She was a couple years older than me. She wasn't my friend, really. She's kind of odd, honestly, and every time I'd pass her in the hallway, she would be like, hey, and smile real weird, and I'm like, that girl is weird. And then a couple years later, she left a message on her answering machine saying, hey, dad, if you could meet with me for lunch before you leave town, that'd be great. And I found out that way that my dad was actually her dad. You are kidding me.

00:13:22 - 00:13:24 | Speaker 4:

Did she know? Is that why she was acting weird?

00:13:24 - 00:13:38 | Speaker 6:

Yes, she knew, but I didn't know. Why did your dad not tell you? Because he kept denying it. He said, no, that can't be. I mean, your mom and I were together. Apparently they still were together, but they did a fraternity test.

00:13:38 - 00:13:39 | Speaker 5:

Wow.

00:13:39 - 00:13:52 | Speaker 6:

And that fraternity test came back positive. So she tried to reach out to me over the years, off and on. And then finally, her and my dad reconnected, and she moved back to our hometown. And they get together, and she has a son. I guess we could be my nephew.

00:13:53 - 00:13:54 | Speaker 3:

But you don't see her then, huh?

00:13:55 - 00:14:02 | Speaker 6:

When I go to my hometown, they both live there. I do go to, like, lunch with her sometimes, but it's just so awkward.

00:14:02 - 00:14:06 | Speaker 4:

Is hometown around here? It's in Missouri. Oh, okay.

00:14:07 - 00:14:13 | Speaker 6:

But I call her my sister person. Your sister person? My sister person.

00:14:13 - 00:14:14 | Speaker 3:

Wow.

00:14:14 - 00:14:17 | Speaker 6:

So when they're like, how many sisters? I have one, and then I have a sister person.

00:14:18 - 00:14:30 | Speaker 3:

Often a voicemail, though. Wow. Oh, my God. Lydia wants me to do one more, but I got a long commercial break that I got to get to. And then War of the Roses. Be, we got to be quick with yours. Your voices, guys. What's up?

00:14:31 - 00:15:01 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, so at 16, I found out that my dad's best friend was my dad. And I found out through a big argument. I wasn't supposed to find out. but I grew up with my dad's best friend calling him my uncle and calling his kids my cousins. And I found out at 16 that he was my dad, and I tried to talk to my new siblings, and they just made... They don't believe it. They're not.

00:15:01 - 00:15:10 | Speaker 7:

They won't do. Wait, so question for you with your dad's best friend being your actual dad. Did your dad know that your mom slept with your dad's best friend?

00:15:11 - 00:15:18 | Speaker 1:

So at this point, my dad had already passed away. So I could never confirm that with him if he knew. Wow.

00:15:19 - 00:15:29 | Speaker 7:

But that's wild. That's wild that that's the case. I mean, gosh, again, you could have a relationship with your dad's best friend's kids because you hang out with them so much. That would be weird.

00:15:29 - 00:15:35 | Speaker 1:

I mean, that pretty much ruined our relationship when I told them, like, hey, I'm actually your guys' sister.

00:15:36 - 00:15:38 | Speaker 7:

Oh, my God. Wow. Crazy stories.

00:15:39 - 00:16:06 | Speaker 5:
