good morning welcome to the mojo in the morning show can't believe it we got just a little over 24 hours actually less than 48 hours from our big jingle ball which is happening tomorrow night at little caesars arena we've been talking about it for so long so excited for this i you know how excited i am i'm excited because we have so many people that are coming to town and that have already come to town i actually just got a text message just moments ago that uh the artists that are not going to be at our chicago jingle ball many of them are already in town which by the way that means the backstreet boys they they aren't performing in uh at kiss

In Chicago's Jingle Ball, they're performing at ours, so that might be them. I'm actually going out tonight for dinner. I'm really excited with Lee Leipzner, who is their manager.

Yeah, we're excited. Downtown Detroit, by the way, is happening right now. With many of the artists that are staying at various hotels, but there's a lot of stuff going on. You know how happening in downtown Detroit is? The Joe Show came into town last night. Also, EJ, for those that don't know this, so Joe's show broadcasts their show from Tampa, Florida. You know, they used to be here. Joe's my son and then Jed and Ashley and, you know, worked on our show. And then they went to go do a morning show for our sister station, 93.3 FLC in Tampa. And then they do our afternoon show in Detroit live from Tampa. Well, they're going to be live doing their morning show today and tomorrow. And then EJ, who is on at night for us and has been on at night for KISS and for SNX, EJ is from L.A. He works on our station KISS. He came in town yesterday. So we all got together and did dinner. Well, EJ and Ashley Nix went out last night and were in the casinos until the wee hours of the morning. And they were out gambling. And so I had people texting me that saw them out saying, hey, I saw Ashley just a second ago here, and it's 1.30 in the morning.

I think she's still delirious, by the way.

It's unbelievable. Well, she's so excited to come back. You know, Ashley's family is here. Her grandma's here.

So she's so excited.

Her beloved grandma. She's so close with her. We had, like, a serious moment in the morning show meeting before the show today. And all of a sudden, it was, like, so quiet. And KP is, like, you know, telling us something.

And Ashley's like, what's going on? It's so loud. Right in the middle of us discussing Breaking Night and Christmas Wish and how, you know, it's going to be a good one today. Ashley's like, what up, my baby? Well, so Ashley and EJ stayed out until, like, whatever time. And it's okay because EJ doesn't have to work until late. You know, he works West Coast times, and then he works the night show for us. So EJ's a bad influence. He is such a bad influence. I asked him to come in this morning. I said to EJ, I go, hey, come in this morning. He goes, I'm not getting up that early. I go, EJ, we're on until 1030. He goes, oh, that's right. You guys are like the fifth hour of the Today Show. How many hours are you guys doing the show? He's like, you know, Ryan Seacrest. Ryan Seacrest leaves at like nine. But then he goes and does a million other things. God, I hope you guys had a good weekend. I know that we all did. We had a lot of stuff going on. We're going to go through our weekends here on the show today. We also have a second date update coming up this morning. Spike's got some great phone scams this week. there's a lot of stuff to get into it's Mojo in the morning show so we went out this weekend to a fancy event I put on my fancy clothes this weekend

oh man I'm going to tell you first off we never get pictures with each other and the only picture we have is a picture of Chelsea and myself from a selfie that we sent to our sons to show that we were out on Saturday night and that's it but we looked so So, hey, I'm going to say this. We looked so good because we all took showers. And she put on this really hot dress, and then I put on my one black suit that I own. It's my funeral slash wedding slash fancy suit, okay? And I wore a freshly dry-cleaned shirt, which let me explain something to you. I haven't gone to a dry cleaner in probably two and a half years. I had to go to the dry cleaner To pick it up from their lost and found area I've done that before I walk in there Because I thought oh god I'm going to have to go to the mall And buy a shirt I walk in there and I go This is going to be really weird But I haven't picked up a shirt here since Pre-COVID 2020 Mr. Tom you're still alive It was actually funny Somebody she actually recognized Me not from the radio But recognized me from being a former customer I told her, I said, I got tons of sweaters I'm bringing in because I haven't, you know, dry cleaned a sweater in a long time. But long story short, we go to this place. We're celebrating our friend Mark Smith, who Mark is just an awesome guy. And it was a big, you know, event honoring him. And we valet parked our car. OK, and I love valet. My wife hates valet. My wife hates valet because she feels like we're lazy and she feels like the valet always at the end of parties is a pain in the ass because everybody's waiting for the thing.

Yeah.

I am truly late. I do not want to walk even, you know, 200 feet. So I like to use a valet. So I go up there. I give the guy my key. I go inside. I have the party. When we're coming out, I'm leaving. I said to the guy, I go, here's my thing. He goes, oh, your key's in the car. And by the way, everybody's still there. There's still a lot of people there. We were actually one of the first people.

to leave and i go my keys in the car and he goes yeah your car is like parked right over there your keys in the car and i said to him i go wait so you just left my keys in the car he goes oh we leave everybody's keys in the car we just park in a parking spot leave the keys in the car if you want me to go get it i will and this is after i just gave him a tip right so point of valet exactly

okay i'm making sure i'm not like it's my head's not foggy on a monday morning and you could leave your car somewhere and leave the keys in it right if i wanted to i could have just done what he just

it right and and and it's very the place that we went to is kind of parked on a street you know what i mean so it's not that like anybody can't just come in there and go grab the keys yeah all right so i figure what the hell after my family talks me off the ledge and says you know don't get don't get crazy karen you know we got to go go to the car i go to the car to open it up and the door's locked no my keys in the car with the door locked all right did your head just want of explode in that moment. Well, not yet because I have the app. I have the Chevy app. I have a Chevy Tahoe that I got from Gordon Chevrolet. I have the Chevy app and so I figure, oh, I'll just push the button that says unlock. Yeah. It's not working. Supposedly, if you leave your keys in the car or something or maybe there was some kind of a malfunction, it doesn't work, okay? I tried it for like 15 to 20 minutes. So finally I walk up to the little valet guy and I said, valet man, who I by the way, I tipped to go get my car who didn't go get my car, but I had to go get my car. I know, third world problems. I said, my key is in the car and my car is locked. He goes, oh, that's got to be a malfunction. I'm sorry, there's nothing I can do. That was the thing. He goes, do you have an extra key at home? I'm like, yeah, but the problem is, one, two, three, these are the people from home. These are all the people. I don't have a way to do this thing. I was so upset. Oh, I was like honestly very upset. Actually, Luke said to me, he goes, Dad, in all the time that i've been alive that's only the second time i've ever seen you angry and not that i you know don't get angry but i don't get angry in public because i always have the fear that i'm gonna get angry in public somebody's gonna tape you and then the next thing you know i'm on dave and chuck the freak show the next day right so i um i figure okay what am i gonna do what am i gonna do after thinking about it for a little bit here you go this is an onstar commercial but it's not they don't advertise with us i used onstar i've never used onstar so how does that work because i i'll be really honest

with you i have onstar in my car but i'm too cheap to pay for it so i just have the button

so i just got this car in in january and and it came with i think a year of onstar or something like that okay so my onstar still working i'm gonna keep it i'm gonna i'm gonna end up buying the thing or paying whatever the hell it is i'll figure out what it is do you have an app on your phone? Is that what it is? No. So I call up OnStar. So I actually had OnStar in my phone because I had had OnStar before. So I had it programmed in my phone. I called up their 888 number or whatever it was. It answers and it says, we recognize this phone or whatever. And it recognizes my phone number. Long story short, lady gets on the phone and says, are you calling up about a 2022 Chevy Tahoe? And I said, yes. And they ask you the question at the beginning. It must be really common they ask you a question did you uh lose your car did you lock your car are your kids locked in the car are dogs locked in the car pets locked in the car like they ask that question right off the bat and then the lady just sends a signal to my car and bada bing bada boom maybe i should be so okay so you of all people i know so let me let me then explain this i get in the car and i'm really pissed off and i'm starting to speed off and as i'm starting to speed off i'm going wait a second i tipped that kid five dollars and he kept it and he kept my five bucks

i never give the tip till they come back with my car that's smart i do it because i figure he'll

get it faster maybe if somebody else comes out or oh yeah listen let me explain this to you they had like fancy cars parked up on the sidewalk yeah at this place like they had a porsche and they had like a cadillac escalade and they had all this stuff yeah they parked the the low rent

cars no i know chevy tows in the back but what i do is i give the guy the money and so hopefully i'll get to get the car faster and then he somehow just hands the keys off someone else says here go get that uh that car that car and then you're like wait i gave you the money and now the other guy brings back my car and i gotta tip him too that's right he looks at you like that guy's cheap you didn't give me a tip right so that's why i started doing it the other way has anybody ever had a

Maybe they have it in the book that you shouldn't leave your key in the car and then lock it, and they do that for you on purpose, but I don't know. Or they do it to get you to buy OnStar. And, yes, I can be, like, my girlfriend had my car one day, and she asked me to unlock the car and start the car for my app when she was at work.

I love when I'm going to, like, Pistons games, and my car's parked in the garage, and I can start my car up and come out to a warm car. It's awesome.

So I had, this was in the early 2000s. I had a 97 Eclipse. It was pretty new. And I valet parked it at a casino in Battle Creek. They locked my keys in the car, set the alarm off, used a crowbar to pry open my hood to disable my alarm. And then they gave me the door open. But they, like, they brought it to me with dents all over the place where they had tried it. Oh, I would be livid. And they're like, we can give you some casino credit for that.

Oh, my God. Unreal. That's craziness. Wait, it wasn't at that Fire Keepers casino, was it? I drive by it all the time. It was. Oh, my God. That place looks nice. I wanted to go see Kenny Loggins there. That's the most new thing you could ever say. It's so weird. Somebody texted in and said that the valet was smoking in their car. How crazy is that?

I bet that's a popular one.

Oh, yeah. Well, I think sometimes they smell like smoke, too, and if they sit in the car, they do it. And then another person texted in and said, valet parked at the mall only to come out to the valet sitting in my car using my gas and warming the car up so they were warming themselves up. The person was sitting in the car with the car running, so the entire time you're in the mall, they're burning your gas. How crazy is that? All right, Mojo in the Morning Show.

He also has a history of accusing Kim of having affairs. Meek Mill, Drake, the list goes on and on. So if you heard that rumor, it's not true. Rams quarterback and former Detroit Lion Matthew Stafford most likely going to miss the rest of the season thanks to a bruised spinal cord. That does not sound like a fun injury to me. He sat out for the third time in four weeks yesterday as the Rams lost to the Seattle Seahawks. Keep losing. He was placed on injured reserve on Saturday after clearing the NFL's concussion protocol. We need the number one pick in the draft.

Now, he really has no practical reason to return this season anyway for the Rams, right? Because they're going to finish with their first losing record in head coach.

And the whole point of his message was to assure kids that it's okay to smile and have fun, even if mom or dad is not around this Christmas.

Christmas is a time when we miss our loved ones really, really badly. And that's okay. At the same time, it can be possible to feel guilty for having fun without our parents. but I'm here to assure you that our parents always want us to have fun, okay? So don't feel guilty. Dear Mojo in the morning, my name is Melissa Robinson. and I want to nominate my sister, Christine, for a breaking and entering Christmas wish. On July 6th, my sister, niece, and nephew's life changed forever. My sister got a phone call that the love of her life, Lauren, had been shot in the line of duty, and it didn't look good. Lauren was a Detroit police officer and lost his life protecting the citizens of Detroit. He was gone, just like that. His family never got to say goodbye. Since that night, Christine and her children have had no choice but to move on with their lives. They were thrown into the spotlight of the media. I'm not able to properly grieve this horrific loss. The kids are deeply struggling. There are many days when they admit it's hard to even wake up and go to school and face the world. They don't have their Batman to talk to, lean on, or encourage them. their dad. They are still very much taking things one day at a time and sometimes one minute at a time. I am so proud of my sister, niece, and nephew and their strength to continue on and keep Lauren's memory alive. Darian just turned 16 and Devin turns 10 in a few weeks. They face a life without their father who loved them dearly he also loved christmas this year they will keep their traditions alive and pull together with a supportive family to get through their first christmas without lauren they are in need of help paying their car and other payments buying a headphones. for Lauren, and a whole lot of Christmas magic. Christine, I remember when that story made the news, and I remember for days afterwards what it was like and the funeral and how many people attended the funeral?

Oh, my goodness, yeah.

Yeah, it was something.

Can you do us a favor? Can you tell us a little bit about this man who went out every single day to go out and protect others, people that were complete strangers?

yeah lauren was i mean he was just different he was he was one of a kind he had such a passion for helping people i mean even us in the house from opening jars and fixing my daughter's toys like he was just always so proud of it and he wanted to make his kids proud and and his dad and he loved it he loved being a police officer but above all that he loved being a dad he If you ask Warren about him, the first thing he would say is that I'm a father. I have two beautiful children. He was fun. He had a joke side to him, so we were constantly getting pranks from him. We didn't get mad, but it was also funny at the same time.

I love that your sister wrote in the letter that he loved Christmas. It was his favorite, favorite time of year. And so how are how are you and the kids keeping his memory alive this Christmas?

You know, it's different. We're trying to like extra decorate and talk about him. And we put the blue light candles up that we just keep going. You know, we put the tree up, but we did it all a little bit different. Like we've never had a white tree before. So we went with white this year. OK. All right. Yeah, you know, Christmas really was just chill for us. But Christmas Eve, you know, Martin would come home and Santa would come. He was just like a kid taking pictures. He'd get up, you know, get home at 2 a.m. And he'd get up at 6 a.m. just to be with the kids early because, you know, they're up.

Well, I believe that this brave man is with us right now because we need to celebrate Christmas for you and your family. And I don't know if you've ever heard what we do. Yeah. You have heard it? I have, yeah. I'm not sure if Lauren would approve of a breaking and entering this morning, but we're going to do it anyway. We are right now at your home.

And of course, we got the winter jackets and the gear and the bedding and clothing and toys and all the things you need and all the things that will provide a Christmas for the kids. But also, Christine, your sister Melissa said that one of the things your family wanted was a headstone for Lauren's gravesite. And our jaws kind of dropped around here when we heard that because we thought, oh my gosh this officer who served and protected we don't even have the proper memorial right now so we reached out to our friend tim lynch at lynch and sons funeral home who along with patent monument and comstock park are going to provide the family with a custom headstone and they're going to work with woodlawn cemetery who's been very accommodating to make sure the family has a beautiful monument to visit and celebrate lauren's life

you guys design it with them and you guys put that extra special spirit so that anytime that you or the kids go and pay a visit that you guys know that lauren is is he's there and And we're thinking of him, and our community is thinking of him.

Well, the Houston Police Department have arrested a man who shot and killed Migos, remember, takeoff at that Houston bowling alley back on November 1st. Remember, this was during an argument over a game of dice that he lost his life. So the police arrested 33-year-old Patrick Xavier Clark and charged him with murder. A 22-year-old man was also arrested in connection with the shooting for illegally having a gun at the scene of the incident. They do not believe that man fired the gun. It was that Patrick Clark who they believe shot the fatal bullet. Georgia, Michigan, TCU, and Ohio State will play for the national championship after being chosen for the college football playoff yesterday. After not playing in a conference championship game, the Buckeyes moved up a spot following USC's loss in the Pac-12 title game on Friday to give the Big Ten two playoff teams for the first time in the format's nine-year history.

How upset, Spike, were you to see Ohio State back in this thing?

You know, you don't want to see them get a second chance, but I wanted them back. I wanted one more win. I wanted to cement it with a third defeat in a row.

Taylor Swift fans are suing Ticketmaster over, or I should say, after that recent controversy, that debacle over tickets for her ERAs tour. More than a dozen Swifties from 13 different states submitted a lawsuit in L.A. County District Court over the weekend, which alleges that Ticketmaster violated the California Cartwright Act and the California Unfair Competition Law during its verified fan presale last month that we heard so much about. They're also accusing Live Nation, who is Ticketmaster's parent company, of a handful of allegations, including fraud and price fixing and antitrust violations. So this lawsuit, again, filed by more than a dozen Swifties, alleges that Ticketmaster forces fans to buy more expensive tickets. That Ticketmaster gets additional fees from every time those tickets are resold. Hilaria Baldwin said she and her husband, Alec, are still struggling after the shooting on the set of his movie Rust last year. That shooting that killed cinematographer Helena Hutchins.

And we're not okay. You can't be okay. No one's okay. It was and is a tragedy that nobody could ever have imagined.

Yeah, while the investigation is still ongoing, Alec recently settled a wrongful death lawsuit with Helena's family. While denying any responsibility for her death, he also agreed to have Helena's husband, Matthew, finish out the film as an executive producer. So that movie is still happening. Hilaria was also talking in that same interview about their family and how she hopes that they are done now that baby number seven is here.

I would say that we're done, although I said we're done with six. And yeah I would say hopefully we're done But we still have to Alex still has to go and do his part So if he does not do his part Sometimes things can happen

And lastly, Disney said on Friday that Splash Mountain will close on January 23rd, one of its most popular rides, to become Tiana's Bayou Adventure, based on the movie The Princess and the Frog. We kind of knew this was coming. Splash Mountain is currently based on that film from the 40s, Song of the South. So the ride and the movie actually have since been criticized for having racist undertones. So Disney is saying, no, we are starting from scratch here. I'll be honest.

They needed to upgrade that thing a long time ago.

They really did. I mean, do you know that ride debuted in 1989? It smelled like mildew if you were going to that thing. It really did. So he has a son who is 15, a daughter who is 13, and then my Lucy is 8, and Smith, my little guy, was 5 1⁄2 yesterday. We had to celebrate his half birthday. It's a very, very big thing now.

How do the kids all get along?

They get along wonderfully. They really do. But it is – I'm not going to sugarcoat that. It's definitely a challenge to make sure with all of the different ages in our families, is when you throw them all together like we did this weekend, making sure that everybody is cool and has something to do and isn't bored because from a 15-year-old down to a 5-year-old, Smith isn't going to want to do the same things that his 15-year-old is interested in.

Yeah, and sometimes they want to do them, but they can't do them, right?

Right, like he's a teenager. He needs time to himself.

Yeah, a teenager doesn't want to be hanging out with a 5-and-a-half-year-old. Wait, he is a 5-and-a-half-year-old. Five and a half.

Do not forget the half. So, yeah, we loaded all of the kids into my car and we drove up north for the weekend. We got an Airbnb. And so I think Wes and I were both really excited about it, but also slightly nervous as well just because we didn't, you know, know what to expect or how it would go. And we want this, we call it warming up of families to be really good and really successful. um and you know the one thing like we anticipated that it it wasn't going to be perfect we knew that but the one thing that I did not anticipate was Lucy my eight-year-old being a little

little jealous when i showed attention to wes's daughter who's 13 and it was just something that we really like i and i know that moving forward we will have to work through give us a give us

an example of that so what did where where were the like what were you doing it it really i can't

even think of anything specific but like any time that i would compliment her name is samantha she's so sweet anytime that i would compliment samantha or you know want to spend time with her or play a game with her I didn't know it but inside loose was feeling a certain way and it wasn't until she kind of bubbled over one night and got super upset and was crying and I I pulled her aside and said like what is going on girlfriend you're you are not acting like yourself and she said I just feel like you love her more than you love me and I thought gosh this is this is just one of those things that i'm sure parents uncle mojo still loves her more i love her more this is just one of those things that parents who are blending families you know i'm sure deals with and it's

a first for me so i'm like oh my god yeah i would love that so let's open up phone lines and tell us your story of how the the jealousy came into play and what did you guys do to stop the jealousy like do you know like what does shannon do in this case so it's so funny because if i've seen I've met Wes's kids once when we did the firefighter thing downtown. Yeah. We're on 313 day. And what I remember about the kids is they're just like so sweet. They were very quiet. They were very sweet. They are the great looking kids.

I always tell Wes, what did you sprinkle in their food to make them this way?

Give me some. And I can kind of see where that would happen because Samantha doesn't seem or didn't seem that when I saw her there is like very, she's not like, she's not like somebody that wants a lot of attention, right? She doesn't seem like that.

And I could see if you're a child that does do get a lot of attention, like Lucy does get a lot of attention and she's got a great personality where if somebody else comes into play, especially somebody that is the same sex, you know what I mean?

Um, I don't know. Andrew and I haven't really talked about that yet because Andrew's in a relationship and his girlfriend has a daughter who is exactly Lucy's age and they are like BFFs. They're very, very, very close. And then she has a son who's a little bit older as well.

And among the other womanly secrets these girls were sharing, They told me, and this is what I want to ask the girls on the show if this is true. And then they go through a period of their life, which I like to call the preteen to just starting to be a teenager time, where they don't want to hug anymore. Yeah. And I got to, like, get in here. But also, poor teenagers always have to deal with, like, the aunt coming at them. They're going to make a big sloppy wet kiss with their hairy mustache, aunt mustache. I always want to know what people do, you know, and I've worked with Spike and Shannon and Mike and Megan for such a long time. I don't know what you got. Like, I will say this to you. I, like, want to know what Reese does on the weekends. Reese, who's our director of Social Impact, I have this weird feeling that Reese is one of those people that dresses up in furry costumes and goes to, like, furry parties.

So she was the person that they both went to talk to about their affair, their marriage is going bad. The producer ended up leaving Good Morning America in 2018, started working as a producer for CBS Mornings. That's when TJ and her started spending more time together. They fell in love. He had a key to her apartment, whatever. His wife busted them after discovering some emails, and so as the rumors started to swirl earlier this year about TJ and Amy, TJ's wife never even thought twice about that because she was so focused on this other woman. Anyway, TJ's affair with that producer ended. He tried working on his marriage, but then his relationship with Amy Robach went from friendship to way, way more. I'm kind of shocked. They are together now.

I was watching one of the Sunday morning shows, the big news shows that they have, and they said that there were two State Departments investigating two deaths or killings by the Iranian government of their own people because of the world.

This was a 27-year-old man shot in the head.

And they said that our State Department is looking into the protection of the athletes for the team. Yeah. Because they're worried that some of those athletes are going to get killed. Yeah.

The queen seems to be losing her crown, guys. Mariah Carey's classic Christmas song. This one right here is everywhere. But this year, it seems that Mariah is losing her hold of the biggest holiday of the year. Yeah. Because the song is underperforming against all prior expectations. And I'm talking big time. On all of the various streaming services, it's like performing pretty eh as of today. It's usually already reached the top five mark, sometimes even the number one position by this time of year. But, like, even, like, I look at, like, Ryan Seacrest was wearing, like, a suit. And then he put, like, you know, styled by, and then he put the insert. So I'm like, oh, God, maybe I'll get a suit like Ryan.

Oh, they all, everybody from that show listed their, like, who did their style.

Their suit is like $20,000, by the way. Is it really? He's got a hair guy. That's the other thing, too. I don't know if you look my hair. I look like Albert Einstein right now.

I have no clue what I'm going to do. My style is by rep big and tall fat man store. By the way, I will say this, that this is interesting that they do that whole style thing because I'm thinking to myself, that must be nice. Now I know where he gets it. He got it paid for. Like, I got it paid for all this stuff.

But also, think about the national team that's coming in and producing this show from our corporate office. They're used to that, and then they're going to come and see me wearing my Christmas hoodie of two reindeer humping and think, like, who let this guy in off the street?

Wait, did you have to get that approved by Tony? Because Tony asked me what I was wearing, and I told him.

Well, did he tell you that I was texting him from the wall? No. So I had a couple – I was looking for some cool outfits, and one of them was a really ugly Christmas sweater, and it said Merry-effing Christmas, but it said the whole thing in glitters and lights. And I was like, Jingle Ball, cool? And he thought I was joking, and I'm like, no, I thought – I was thinking I would wear this. And he's like, you can wear that at your family party. Do not wear that to the stage.

Because our national team would freak.

Yeah, and then I'd text him back.

But you guys don't think – I'm being very serious about this. I'm freaking out. Mike and I were talking about it. I'm very nervous because I do. I want to make a good impression on these people. And I've seen it before at other Jingle Balls where, I mean, they are like, you have to, they give handlers to people and everything. It's a very serious thing. Yeah. But you guys are now past that. Like, Mojo, Spike, Shannon. What do you mean? Well, they should be thanking you to be in your presence. Like, seriously. Yes.

For those that don't know, last week, a week ago at this time, Mike and Allie surprised all of us by telling us that Mike and Allie are having their third. They're having their third baby. And what is it that you're going to bring up on the air right now that might actually get Allie a little upset?

So I tread lightly when it comes to bringing up baby brain. I've learned a little bit, but I'm convinced that this one might be a little bit of the baby brain. And if baby brain is not a real thing, then tell me I'm wrong. But my wife called me this weekend and just freaking out and panicked. And I was like, what's going on? What's going on? She's like, my car won't start. My car won't start. And I'm like, okay, we'll come get you. She's sitting in the parking lot at a grocery store. She's like, I don't know what it is. I can't turn the key. I can't figure it out. I have no idea what's going on. I'm like, all right. So we packed the kids in my car, and we drove over to the parking lot. And I show up, and she's sitting there. She's pacing back and forth around her car, and I feel so bad. And so I walk up, and I grab her keys. And I'm like, I don't know. I'll mess with it. I'll see if I can fix it. You guys, I literally sat in the car and turned the key, and it started. It started. There was nothing wrong. And she's convinced. She is convinced that this car is broken. We have to take it in now. She's going to get stranded somewhere. I have to take her to a shop. She wants to spend all this money to get the car looked at. And I just want to – I haven't said this to her. I just want to say, hey, maybe you're just a little cloudy. Maybe you're just a little cloudy in the brain right now. Oh, Mike. Oh, Mike.

Well, I don't – you can't say it that way.

a little bit but it was I think that thing where you like turn it a little bit and then it starts like the key turns so I think that what she did is she didn't touch the wheel or the brakes but she told me she did all those things she's like I did that I did that it just wouldn't turn Because, like, if she got pressure on the steering wheel and it's locked in one way, that key will not turn. And that's what I think. You have to literally turn it back the other way a little bit.

Yeah. So she was right when she was doing it. She probably didn't wiggle the steering wheel a little bit? Yep. That's probably it. I've had that happen before. It becomes like, what kind of, it was your. It's my wife's. She's got an Acadia. An Acadia, okay. What's up, Gordon?

Hey, Mojo. So what's going on is the lock and the steering wheel, it's all in one mechanism with the ignition as well. So when the steering wheel locks in a certain place, it won't let you turn the key. So the reason that Mike was able to get it started is because he tugged on that steering wheel a little bit. That's all you got to tell him, man. You should be able to see that. Just tug on that steering wheel a little bit, and it'll bring everything in.

Gordon, you're a mechanic. You're a mechanic. How big of a dummy is Mike for doing this?

It's not too often. She's pregnant, so she was freaking out, which is understandable.

I remember when Chelsea was pregnant with my son Joe All she wanted were Hostess cupcakes Do you know what Hostess cupcakes are? They come in a box and there's like I don't even know how many are in there And I remember her asking me If I ate all the hostess cupcakes Because they were gone And I said no I said I didn't even touch any of those That caused her to start crying Because then she realized she ate all the hostess cupcakes So I'm like no no no I had four of them

Here's your ice cream. I couldn't stop crying because I, in my mind, I thought you could be happy to go get me ice cream. I'm nine months pregnant. I want my ice cream.

fans indeed bread thank you well several dozen detroit kids receiving an early christmas present yesterday pistons head coach dwayne casey hosting youth from the pure heart foundation for a very merry Casey Christmas. The kids spent the day at the Pistons practice facility hanging out with Pistons players, eating brunch, and opening their presents. The Pure Heart Foundation is a non-profit offering academic support, counseling, and therapeutic resources to kids whose parents are incarcerated. Four out of ten kids in Detroit have a parent currently serving time in prison. Coach Casey says it's really all about helping these great kids rise above difficult circumstances.

It's helping these kids holistically, whether it's with mental health, whether it's in a safe place, whatever it is to help them break that cycle that they're going through, and also to help them understand they're not the reason why they're in that situation. It's not their fault.

Now, as part of this holiday event, the crew from Mojo in the Morning on Channel 95.5 is giving the Pure Heart Foundation $30,000. That money was donated by listeners. Oh, boy, hold on. And will help buy a van the organization can use to transport kids to and from visits to their parents. That is so great to see.

Actually, other people need to get some credit for that. Actually, a lot of people. Anthony from Imagine Theater, the guy is a sweetheart of sweethearts. I love him so much. He actually is the one that came to us and said, hey, you know what? This is a really good organization. We should help out. And he's like personal friends with Coach Casey. And by the way, Coach Casey's wife, un-freaking-believable how amazing. I've been around players and athletes and coaches and stuff. I have never seen a wife that shows the compassion for the children like she did on Saturday at this event. And we gave, at Breaking Energy, gave $10,000. um uh bruce smith and his beautiful family they gave ten thousand dollars and then the coach casey and his wife gave uh more than ten thousand dollars i think they gave like fifteen thousand dollars or something like that awesome but can i introduce you guys to somebody yes so on the phone with us right now is sherelle hogan she is from the pure heart foundation i want listeners to know about this foundation because their kids that they deal with have the have a very very tough you know thing going on for them they have a parent sometimes uh just one sometimes just sometimes both that are in prison and they're being raised by grandparents or being raised by aunties and uncles and all that stuff and this lovely lady you're you are like a guardian angel for these kids these kids love you probably honestly more than they love santa claus Would I be right in saying that?

Yeah. This woman has the most amazing heart and pure heart foundation that you guys do in the Coach Casey Foundation. Am I right in saying this? Coach Casey Foundation has been a godsend for you guys, a savior for you guys?

Yes, for the last five years.

Yes, absolutely. He's been donating. His wife's name is Brenda, right? Am I right in saying that? Yes, yes. His wife, Brenda, and him, and the kids have been donating, and nobody, they don't ask for a lot of attention when it comes to that. Yeah, it's amazing. And tell everybody about what this van is going to do for the kids in your organization.

Absolutely. So, first and foremost, thank you for allowing me to, you know, be a part of this amazing show this morning.

I mean, pure having transportation will not only eliminate transportation barriers. You know, 80% of our scholars are in single-parent households because their other parent is incarcerated. So mom or dad or auntie or foster parent having to choose, do I go to work or do I take my scholar to the scholar center to receive programming, right? That's going to eliminate that barrier. Now we'll have access to go pick up the scholars from school and bring them to receive critical, critical wraparound services at Pure Heart Scholar Center. But most importantly, we'll be taking our scholars to see their parents. Some of our scholars have never seen their parents.

Oh, my gosh. Oh, my gosh.

Never.

Wow. And we talked about this on Friday with Coach Casey. There was no means to do this before this. It wasn't. Yeah.

No, it wasn't. Right. Yeah. And it's so important to just like coach talked about on Friday of breaking the cycle with these kids, but also breaking the stigma. These kids did nothing wrong and we need to help them get on the right path and stay there. Absolutely. Do you know what

coach Casey and Brenda did for the kids? So first off, they gave them a ton of stuff. They paid for a whole bunch of stuff to be given to them, including their own personal jerseys from the, You know, the Pistons. And then they gave them an envelope. And in the envelope, the kids didn't have any clue what was in there. Was something for them, something for the person that's taking care of them now, and something for a complete stranger. They opened up the envelope, and there was hundreds of dollars in the envelopes for these kids. I saw one kid that was up in the front. The little boy and the little girl were crying. The little boy said, I've only seen this stuff on movies, in TV. He had never had his hands on money, let alone $100 bills and $50 bills and stuff.

Were you just a blubbery mess? I was sobbing.

Jerelle, you were even getting terry-eyed, and you're a tough lady.

We all cried. Yeah. Yeah. We all cried. I mean, even one little boy, he said, me and my mom, we're going to eat good today. Oh, my God.

Isn't that amazing? Yeah. You guys are doing God's work, but listen to what else they're doing. And if you have any, you know, money in your pocket that you want to, like, double the money and help out somebody, you guys have a match program that's going on this week. Is that right?

Yes. Yes. So the Detroit Lions and Camarita Bank have teamed up to do a Double Our Impact campaign, and we were selected as the 2022 My Cause, My Cleet recipient. Hey, can I ask you a question? I probably should have just asked you this when we were there. Yeah. Say no. Say no. He's going to ask if he can drive that bus or that van. No, I won't. Although I will tell you this. I one time rented one of those church vans for a family vacation. And my wife goes, there's only five of us. Why did you do it? I thought it was the coolest. What is your background? What is it that got you to go to Pure Heart Foundation? Because I look at you and I see how wonderful you are. You have a beautiful smile, but you're also a tough lady too. And I think that these kids, if they didn't have you, I don't know where these kids would be.

Absolutely. So my background is very simple. When I was six, my mother went to prison. When I was seven, my father went to prison. And after I watched both of them be handcuffed instead of a prison and realized no one advocated for me, I knew that I wanted to be that person to advocate for the next child. I held on to that. And then I found myself, you know, graduating the top of my class in high school, graduating the top of my class in the University of Michigan.

Wait, stop for a second. You have a mother and a father who are cuffed and brought to prison. At how old were you at this time?

Six and seven.

You're six and seven years old. And you got yourself through school with the help of who? Who raised you? Who helped you?

Honestly, everyone, right? So I live with families. I live with friends. I literally met a family at church. And the second time my mom went to prison, I asked her, well, can I just live with them? I bounced around quite a bit. I never entered the foster care system, but I did move a lot of times.

We saw a stat on Friday that said that one in four Detroit kids will have a parent that will be in prison or jail one day.

Yep.

That's stat.

They're four weeks in the age of 10.

And not all these kids need to go out on the streets and follow in their parent footstep.

You didn't. You put yourself through school and went to University of Michigan and ended up getting a degree, and now you're giving back. I'm touched by that. I'm actually as choked up with thinking about that as I am thinking of these kids getting that money from the Casey family.

Absolutely. It was a very tough journey, and that's why I'm so blessed for people like you, people like the Casey's, people like Anthony, people like the ones over at DMX.

The Smiths, yeah, Bruce Smith and his family. Yeah, DMS, Detroit.

This is a very forgotten population. When I was walking down the street, I saw both of my parents' friends, and they're like, yeah, how's your mom? How's your papa doing, right? And I'm like, oh, they're fine. And then I put my head down because no one asked how was I doing.

Yeah. Can I tell?

Yeah, go ahead. Finish what you're going to say because I want to tell you.

I just want people to know that this is a very silent population. and what the Casey's did, what you all did at the Christmas event, it was 38 young people in there all sharing the same experience and no longer feeling like it's just me.

So I'm going to tell you something. I had a little reluctance at first because I didn't know. So we get scrutinized for everything. I can go on the air and I can say that I cured cancer and somebody's going to say, how dare you? You know what I mean? Like that's just our world right now. So when we were going to do this, I had a conversation with Dr. Darius. You know, Dr. Darius from WJLB. He's our neighbor and our good friend, a brother of mine. And I told him that we were going to do this. And I'm not going to lie. My gut was telling me that we were going to get some people that were going to be like, those people need to stay out of prison and just take care of their kids. You know what I mean? Like they'll question that. And Dr. Darius said to me, he gave me a hug. And listen, I've known this guy forever and he's given me a lot of hugs, but this hug meant something because he said, you have no idea what you're doing for kids that I know, kids that are family, kids that are friends, you know, and I was so confident. Wow. Okay. This is good. Well, they finally have somebody in custody. The Houston Police Department have arrested a man who they believe shot and killed Migos member Takeoff at that Houston bowling alley earlier last month. This happened during an argument over a game of dice. The police arrested 33-year-old Patrick Xavier Clark, charged him with murder. A 22-year-old man was also arrested in connection with the shooting for illegally having a gun at the scene of the incident. So hopefully taking some steps in the right direction there. Can I tell you, I don't understand.

Like that took a long time. And they actually really long time. They had video that they probably could have found them faster. The other thing that I can't believe, I can't believe that Idaho, those college students in Idaho.

Oh, I'm fascinated by that story. That four people were murdered in a home where two others were as well. And they said that they left, they were messy and left behind so much evidence, whomever did this. And they don't have anybody. And they still cannot find the person.

They said this morning on the news, they said that there is a chance that they may not catch the killer or killers of those kids, those college kids. It's crazy.

Taylor Swift fans are suing Ticketmaster over what went down over the ERA's tour tickets with all of the verified fans and people trying to get their hands on tickets for one of her shows. More than a dozen Swifties from 13 different states across the country submitted a lawsuit in L.A. County District Court on Friday. And they alleged that Ticketmaster violated what's called the California Cartwright Act and the California Unfair Competition Law during its verified fan presale last month. They're also accusing Live Nation, which is Ticketmaster's parent company, of a handful of allegations, including fraud and price fixing and antitrust violations. We briefly talked about this earlier this morning, a Britney Spears-inspired musical. It's called Once Upon a One More Time. It's coming to Broadway next year. The musical focuses on a book club formed by Cinderella, Snow White, and Ariel. Okay. The three of them have a book shared with them called The Feminine Mystique, and it opens the princess's eyes that there is more to life than just fairy tales. It will feature a lot of Britney's music. This song, Toxic, Lucky, Circus, It's going to open at the Marquee Theater on Broadway in June. Britney has no involvement in this. Wow. Dear Mojo in the morning, my name is Melissa Robinson, and I want to nominate my sister, Christine, for a breaking and entering Christmas wish. On July 6th, my sister, niece, and nephew's life changed forever. My sister got a phone call that the love of her life, Lauren, had been shot in the line of duty, and it didn't look good. Lauren was a Detroit police officer and lost his life protecting the citizens of Detroit. He was gone, just like that. His family never got to say goodbye. Since that night, Christine and her children have had no choice but to move on with their lives. They were thrown into the spotlight of the media. I'm not able to properly grieve this horrific loss. The kids are deeply struggling. There are many days when they admit it's hard to even wake up and go to school and face the world. They don't have their Batman to talk to, lean on, or encourage them. their dad. They are still very much taking things one day at a time and sometimes one minute at a time. I am so proud of my sister, niece, and nephew and their strength to continue on and keep Lauren's memory alive. Darian just turned 16 and Devin turns 10 in a few weeks. Yeah, Lauren was, I mean, he was just different. He was one of a kind. He had such a passion for helping people. I mean, even us at the house from opening jars and fixing my daughter's toys, Like, he was just always so proud of it, and he wanted to make his kids proud, and his dad, and he loved it. He loved being a police officer, but above all that, he loved being a dad. If you ask Warren about him, the first thing he would say is that, I'm a father. I have two beautiful children. You know, he was fun. He had a joke side to him, so we were constantly getting pranks from him, and we didn't get bad, but it was also funny at the same time.

I love that your sister wrote in the letter that he loved Christmas. It was his favorite, favorite time of year. And so how are you and the kids keeping his memory alive this Christmas?

You know, it's different. we're trying to like extra decorate and talk about him and we put the blue light candles up that we just keep going um you know we put the tree up but we we did it all a little bit different like we've never had a white tree before so we we went with white this year okay um all right yeah we you know christmas really was just chill for us but christmas You know, Maureen would come home and Santa would come. He was just like a kid, taking pictures. He'd get up. He'd, you know, get home at 2 a.m. And he'd get up at 6 a.m. just to be with the kids early because, you know, they're up.

Well, I believe that this brave man is with us right now because we need to celebrate Christmas for you and your family. And I don't know if you've ever heard what we do. Yeah. You have heard it?

And then so many people that probably don't realize that months later, when you follow up on these stories, because there's way too many of them, where our fallen heroes are taken from us. We think the families are taken care of. We don't realize that. No, not exactly. And that's why we want to take care of you and your family. We want to make sure that your Christmas and after Christmas is good. We can't tell you how much we appreciate what your husband and what you and your family sacrificed for our community. But we want to make sure that we are there for you so that you know that it wasn't sacrificed in vain.

that um we understand he plays his dad's ps5 so we got him a couple hundred dollars and a ps5 gift card so he can continue that memory and oh and of course we got the you know the winter jackets and the gear and the bedding and clothing and toys and all the things you need and all the things that will provide a christmas for the kids but also christine your sister melissa said that One of the things your family wanted was a headstone for Lauren's grave site. And our jaws kind of dropped around here when we heard that because we thought, oh my gosh, this officer who served and protected...

We don't even have the proper memorial right now. So we reached out to our friend Tim Lynch at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home, who along with Patton Monument and Comstock Park are going to provide the family with a custom headstone, and they're going to work with Woodlawn Cemetery, who's been very accommodating to make sure the family has a beautiful monument to visit and celebrate Lauren's life.

All expenses paid, the food, the tickets, a hotel. We just want you to spend some really good quality time together and remember Lauren.

yeah i know what you guys do is so incredible and i listen every single year i cry every single time it reminds me to not complain so much because in my everyday life i complain about little things and there's people going through so much and it reminds me like to calm down and think about other people and to be a little bit more selfless i listen to them like they needed a couch you guys are going to help with the couch they didn't have a gravestone and i really actually right now i was driving by lower park mall i had to pull over so i could get my like real good cry out when i heard you didn't have like a gravestone it is so incredibly sad but touching what you guys

do really it's it's incredible we do it because you guys give us the ability to do it honestly i say this all the time you don't have to donate a dollar to breaking entering christmas wish for the ability for us to do it you're listening to us helps it helps so much and it's because the years that we've been able to be on the radio doing this thing that has given us the ability to do it.
