All right. You're in the second team then, all right? First team, do you remember when you played sports and it was the coach would have what was called pennies, which were like the little jerseys that you would put on to decide who was going to be on one team, who was going to be on the other. and you always wanted the the blue one or the green one or whatever it was you never wanted to have the white one because if you got the white one you were on the b team and you were basically on the team that had to get uh get beat up by the other team but and i always hated it when coaches would do they didn't they didn't i know that they didn't do this with megan with your team they would do shirts and skins when when uh they would do and they did this in gym class too when we were uh you know probably i don't know middle school and sometimes in high school they would be like all right we're gonna play basketball today guys um shirts and skins and they would look at me and put me on the skins one and the skins one basically was you take your shirt off and you're the guy playing every kid every kid and i would and honestly i was not fearful of taking my shirt off for some reason because i knew

this in basketball, nobody would guard me because they did not want to get close to the sloppy, sloppy, sweaty guy that was about to be in there.

And I was the little guy who's like trying to guard the big guy like that. And his head would go in his armpit.

Mike, it was it was the only thing that I had that was an advantage. And that was I was hairy, sweaty and fat. So I was on the skins team. I vowed that I would never do shirts and skins when I coached middle school basketball.

That's the reason I wouldn't play. It's humiliating.

You're not going. I'm not going to do that. First off, I don't think they can do it anymore because nowadays you'd probably get in trouble for doing it. But I would never do that. Just like if I was a teacher, I would never go around the room asking people to read.

Thank you. Hated that. They don't do that anymore. Good. because I was the kid who I had to be put in the room with no windows, and it was one-on-one because I couldn't read to save my life.

Oh, it was, well, they were kind of mean.

They were so mean. They were so, like... I would get such bad anxiety about that that I would look around the room, and I would count and try to chunk up the paragraphs in my head and figure out which one I was going to have to read and, like, practice it. Same with me. Before I had to do it out loud.

I loved it, but I just made up words. I never actually read it I just started saying things

My brother and I both did this where we would read the first two letters And then just guess what the rest of the word was Based on the length and keep going And they'd be like that's not the word

Oh my god the trauma from school I feel like I might be causing Trauma for Lucy today by the way I need you guys to help me feel like not a bad mom What's going on? Well you're just looking at me you're not going to help me feel like not a bad mom No I'm wondering because So she had a little stomach bug over the weekend so like Saturday Sunday she was she was puking red which is really fun puke to clean up by the way and just like wasn't feeling well so I kept her home from school on Monday because she had a little bit of a fever she wasn't vomiting anymore which was good but then yesterday I was in a huge predicament I I woke her up in the middle of the night no more fever again she hadn't been vomiting you know for an entire day and so I said you know do you feel okay enough to go to school and she said well my stomach still kind of hurts a little bit and I'm like oh no okay well try to go to school because mom doesn't have anybody to watch you I have work Andrew's out of town Wes is out of town my mom's out of town Andrew's parents are out of town my dad and my stepmom thank god my stepmom had the day off of work on Monday and was able to watch her that's why I had my babysitter goes to another job after she gets my kids off to school so I was like stuck oh my gosh so I said try to go to school I know you still have a stomach ache but I think you can power through school. You don't have a fever. You're not throwing up or going to the bathroom anymore. You're good, girl. You got this. Mojo, you were in the studio yesterday when I got the phone call. It was like 1045 from the school secretary, who's actually a friend of mine.

We actually talked about it on our podcast yesterday. Oh, did you?

Yeah.

Because we talked about how back in the day you had to go to an official nurse. Nowadays, you just pretty much tell them you don't feel good, and they send you home.

And they call mom. Yeah, so I had to leave here a little bit early and go get her. And so she was good yesterday, last night, kind of said, oh, my, you know, my stomach is hurting me again. And I said, okay, here's the thing. It's a half day. Today is a half day. I said, it's a half day tomorrow. And remember, a bunch of your friends and the moms are getting together to go out to lunch. And then we're doing this big group park play date. So if you don't go to school, you can't do the big fun lunch at the park play date. Oh, my God, you remember that when you were in school?

The moral dilemma now.

And she's like, I think, I think I can go to school. So she's going to school today. But I'm still like, oh, I hate being, I hate being in a situation of like.

Do you think that she's not feeling well or do you think that she's not wanting to go to school?

Well, I mean, she legitimately was sick, you know, over the weekend. And Monday I'm happy I kept her home. Yesterday when I went to pick her up, I could tell she wasn't feeling great because she wasn't really talkative. And you know Luce. Yeah, she's a talker. she's you know she's she's pretty chatty but yeah um today is like you know i'm because i don't know

it always amazed me and i we might have talked about this in the podcast but always amazed me when the kids weren't feeling well and it was you know hey they're not feeling well and chel said something going on so i would go pick them up and it was very few and far between but we would be driving home and they would go can we get mcdonald's i'd be like wait a second you just said You're not feeling well. But McDonald's always makes things better. Or they would come home and they would be right on their video games, you know, and I'd be like, no, no, no, you got to go upstairs in your room. I'm sorry. You got to watch The Price is Right.

But I'm trying to read her, right? But I'm like, inside right now, my stomach hurts because I feel like a terrible mother. But I'm like, but she really.

wants to go to this thing. I don't know. I don't know. And to defend the kids, sometimes you just need to be near your own bathroom and not the school bed.

Everybody is around and all your classmates and teachers. Right.

That's what she told me yesterday when I picked her up. She's like, Mom, my stomach is hurting and I just didn't want to have to go diarrhea at school. I'm like, I get it. I get that 100%, Lou. Who wants to go

diarrhea in school, right? I get it. I don't even want to go pee in school

and catch the bathroom. She said that on the air. But you can still play video games and have to go to the bathroom.

All right. So it's the dilemma of what do you do? And I know that we have, you know, parents that are listening right now. Because it became a situation where it was like if you had just a little sniffle, it was like, you know, you can't go to school. But I think things are starting to go back a little bit.

Well, and it's hard, too, because, like, Smith is five. He's in pre-K, right? He's in a young fives is what they call it. And so the director of his school was like, if the kids have a runny nose, please do not send them to school. Smith has had a runny nose for five years of his life.

You know what I mean? So it's so hard, too, to distinguish, like, are they really sick? Is this? I don't know. Especially with, like, anxiety and stuff, too, if things aren't going well at school.

That was the thing that I noticed with, you know, myself was I never really went to go to the front office to say I was sick. If it was I was sick, it was that I didn't want to be in the next class or I didn't want to. There was somebody that was picking on me or there was something kind of going on. Lauren, what's going on?

I'm not a mom, but when I was in school, I used to say fibrosis, and I didn't know at the time, and it's like a lifelong disease, so I'm not going to get rid of it. And I didn't know until I was 16, so I don't digest fat. So I would have diarrhea at school.

Everybody dumped that. But she was. She was about to do that to herself. She just said the brown poopy word. That's why you were in the office a lot. But you know what, though? That's amazing. that they would put a time limit on you. Now, again, how long ago was this?

123 now, and that was like basically all throughout my childhood.

Nowadays, I'm telling you, I think everybody is a little bit more aware that there are people that have some things going on. So, I mean, especially, you know, nobody knew probably back then what that was. I mean, it's, you know, it's like Crohn's. Nobody, I didn't know what Crohn's was, you know, until probably 15 years ago or something like that. Mojo on the morning show. What's up, Nikki? How you doing?

Good morning. I'm going to say, Shannon, you really do have to believe her. Because one time when I was about seven years old, we were out shopping in L.A. And my mom, I told my mom I was not feeling good. She said, you're fine. We went to the coach door. And lo and behold, this little girl threw up all over the purse stand. Oh, my God.

They didn't make your mom pay for that, did they?

No, they did not. No, they did not. They were really nice about it.

Do you remember when you were a kid and you would pretend that you threw up in the thing? I just threw up in the... And you'd go, blah, blah, blah, you know, like that or anything. And then you'd flush it really fast so the parents couldn't see.

Oh, my mom would be like, you're still going to school. Yeah, I didn't see it. Still going to school.

Good morning. Mom, never let us miss school. I mean for nothing. And I woke up. I was in high school. I had the worst stomach ache. Oh, just stick it out. Just stick it out. You'll be fine. Well, my counselor got one look at me when I got to school and called my mom. I was like, she is really sick. Like, you need to come pick her up. So I got my hall pass, and I had to flash that thing to the hall monitor so quick and buffed out those front doors, and I puked all over the side. Oh, no.

Oh, my God. So what?

The rest of the day. And I was like, I told you I was really sick.

Did your mom feel bad?

Probably not.

Because I always wondered that when a parent doesn't believe him, because I've had that where I didn't believe. I thought that Luke was faking that he broke his hand. And I'm like, you didn't break. So like a day and a half later, we finally got x-rays on it and found out that he broke his hand. And I felt like such a jerk of a parent.

at that moment oh yeah he'll trip you for a good month after that oh my god it was he actually uh

when he put the cast on he asked the doctor could he put the middle finger

up in the thing in the cast just just to show it off to me thank you for the call i appreciate it all right mojo in the morning show uh kp actually has been out the last couple days she's not feeling well and she feels horrible calling in sick because she wants to be here and honestly she sounded so sick on monday when she was here and i knew oh i don't think this is allergies so last night i actually reached out to her to see how she was doing and she answered back she He goes, I'll be in tomorrow. And I'm like, well, you didn't answer the question. How are you doing? And so she's taking another day off today. And I know that she's listening and she's doing social and stuff like that. But you know what? It's a good idea. Better safe than sorry, right?
