Mojo in the morning. So Luke graduated this year. And what I've experienced when you have a child that graduates from school is it costs you a lot of money. Because you get invited to a ton of grad parties. so luke and my family we've been invited to i think right now 38 grad parties and this is not just here in our area but it's uh all across you know the state and our friends that we have a lot of friends that live in arizona and we got a lot of friends that live in uh illinois and i think the problem is that we all had our kids at the same time or we have similar friends you know With kids at the same time And then you get invited to the grad parties And it just becomes like a Oh crap, we are going to Not only have every weekend full But

I went to Kroger And I bought like a pack of grad cards Everybody's getting the same Grad card from us That's what my mom did It's basically a money holder

Yes. I remember that she would line them up on the kitchen counter and we would put, I think I don't even remember, like 20 bucks in each card or whatever. And I would go down the line and sign them all. So I would have them to just go.

And that's like the dilemma too. Like how much do I really like these kids? Like am I not going to, how much do I like? And I'm going to judge it. This is how I'm going to judge it too. And I'm saying this to everybody that's got grad parties coming up. Okay. This goes out to Vince Anderson and goes out to Tim Gale. It goes out to, you know, the Meijer family, the Meijer's family. How do you know that before you go?

So let me tell you about one particular invitation that we got, and I won't say the kid's name. So one of the invitations that we got um the invite on there for the uh the grad party also attached banking info for the the kid it said with and i won't say the kid's name starting school in august he will be in need of money for housing books and all the things that require your money on freshman year here are his venmo zell and paypal info and they sent the venmo zell and paypal info to go along uh with that now is that just a smart uh you know invitation or is that just like really asking uh a little bit too much is that overstepping by asking that no i don't think so Kev, new dish into the show. Do you remember what you got for graduate? Where'd you go to school again? Detroit School for the Fine and Performing Arts. All right. In what class was that? What year? 07. So what did you get? How much money did you end up getting at graduation?

I don't remember, to be honest with you. I don't think it was like a crazy amount, but I knew I was happy. But as a kid, that's kind of all you want. Like, give me the money. And with all of these, you know, like cash apps and Venmo and PayPal, all of these options, I'm just making it easier on you.

So maybe that's what I do for the good food at the parties. Maybe I'll send them money through, I don't know, Zelle or something like that.

It's definitely not as personable because I do like writing in cards. Like I like writing a message and handing over a tangible card. but it's a heck of a lot easier than going to the bank, spending six bucks on a card. Bro, these kids are not trying to read. To just do Venmo. I don't know. I feel like we're on the cusp of it being like poo-pooed on and it being totally normal. Bro, nobody's trying to

Yeah, we did that with our son's house last year. We did put a little insert in just like, you know, nothing is expected. But if you feel inclined, we did share his Venmo. But we also did an Amazon wish list just for like stuff for his dorm or ideas and for a lot of out-of-state family. It was nice just to kind of, you know, if you're going to spend the money, and get him stuff that he knows he can use.

That's actually kind of like a wish list. And you know what I'm bummed out about this year, too? And this makes me really sad. Bed, Bath & Beyond's not around. And that was the beauty of when you go away to college, that you could go to Bed, Bath & Beyond and just load up two carts full of stuff. If there was more kids going away to college, that store would have probably made it. Who knows? Esau, what's happening?

It was a thing to this day that I picked up from him. So my wife and I always go to weddings, and I was like, if the food is good, if they're serving steak, yeah, they get extra $100. If they're serving just chicken and one side, I'm taking $100 back.

I remember. The other thing that I've realized, too, with some of these grad parties is trying to arrange, because Luke goes to a Catholic school where the kids are spread out all over the place.

It's trying to look at a map and go, all right, I got to be in Oxford at this time, Lake Orient at this time, Bloomfield Hills at this time, Rochester at this time. Like, you literally have to map it out. And the sad part is you don't necessarily get to spend a good amount of time at people's grad parties. You want to hit a couple. And there's a couple of grad parties that I'm like, I want to spend a lot of time there. Like, I want to actually, you know, really enjoy it. Yeah. Get to a point where they're kicking me out at the end of the night. You got to pull $40 out of the car just for gas. For an Uber. I'm going to be drinking. We're going to have some fun.
