Mojo on the Morning Show. So this is the first weekend of all the grad parties that we got going on.

How many this weekend do you have?

I think we got three this weekend.

Okay.

Yeah.

That's not terrible.

And so it begins. And actually, they're spread out really nicely. I don't know how they do this Moms are the only ones that figure this stuff out But moms are the ones that I think that they talk to each other Or they have some kind of telepathic Ability to be able to know Here's what time we'll have ours Here's what time you're going to have yours And they put what they do is They'll do like open house grad parties Where the family members like grandmas, grandpas, aunts, uncles And stuff can come anytime But then they put a specific time for like You to come You know like your friends in school and the parents and stuff so that they don't feel pressured to try to, you know, go to every single grad party at the same time. So it's kind of cool. But here's a dilemma. And this is something that I wanted to bring up right now. And I want to open it up for a little discussion, a little open forum family discussion. We had a grad party for Joe, our oldest son. But Jacob and Luke both decided they did not want grad parties. And the one thing that I remember throwing the grad party for Joe was the anxiety that I had, and be honest with you, the diarrhea that came to me off of the fear of people drinking that were underage at my kid's party. Because I worried that somebody would do something, get themselves into trouble, and then I would get in trouble, or Chelsea and I would both get in trouble, our family would get in trouble, and then word would get out. and I'm amazed how it seems like now it's not even like an issue anymore and this is pretty wild but there are parents that could care less if they're 17, 18 or some cases some kids might even be just turning 19 are drinking at their house with their friends openly and then the parents get wasted too and I've been talking to parents who are having parties and a lot of them are just like well there's nothing you can do about it and I'm like well there's something I did about it what I did about it was I ended up hiring a couple of cops from our little township area that we live in West Bloomfield to be at the party they weren't in uniform but they were there and I told Joe ahead of time who they were what they looked like and I said tell your friends that they're going to be here yeah and the reason why was I wanted them to because I'm going to be walking around talking to family and friends and taking pictures and celebrating with you know joe i'm not going to have the ability to be able to go get give me that red solo cup what's in that cup you know what's doing all this stuff i wanted those guys to do it and what it turned out to what it turned out to be i know do I sound like a fun hater.

You hired undercover police officers?

I did, yeah. You hired undercover police officers? It really wasn't that expensive. These guys were great, too, by the way. They turned out to be really good friends afterwards. I called the police department and asked them, I know, I'm kind of a narc, aren't I? I'm like the fun hater. But you know what? I could get, like, honestly, could you imagine tonight-

Back to you. But here's the thing that people don't understand, and this is a law for Ohio and Michigan. It is illegal to provide a place to an underage child to drink. Parents, and this is actually from the Ohio law that I pulled this off of, but then I also duplicated this for Michigan too to see if it was similar. Parents may not provide alcohol to children that are younger than the drinking age of 21 and could face a maximum of six months in jail or a $1,000 fine. It is illegal also to purchase alcohol for anyone that is under the age of 21 and anyone who purchases it, sells, or gives alcohol also could be brought up on charges and face charges. So I think that that was the thing that was in my head was I don't want to get myself into trouble, you know? And honestly, these parties become wild and fun and crazy. But then, God forbid, a kid goes and tells everybody he got drunk at our house or, you know, you can't police everybody coming and going, and they leave and go somewhere else and get themselves into trouble. Right. So I throw this out to you guys. Do you guys think, like, it's not that big of a deal anymore to, like, drink at these grad parties, or is it just as big a deal and we're just not hearing about it until a tragic thing happens?

Yeah.

I think it's a big deal. Underage drinking is clearly an issue It's not even so much Of whether or not you supply it It's going to be there I can reminisce on when I graduated And that was like I had the greatest summer of my life Going to every single grab party And there was alcohol At a lot of these parties And a lot of it that was there Wasn't supplied by adults It was people bringing alcohol to the party

So kids were bringing their own stuff Like they do probably to parties now And I get that I know they're drinking Like I know if Luke's going to a friend's house and stuff and we always have this thing with him. Hey, we're not going to be able to be there with you at college so if you're going to drink, you better never get behind the wheel of a car because if you do that, then you're done and we're not taking care of your college and we're not doing anything

for you after that. See, but I've also been to places where parents supplied it and that was their thing. They were like, you're not going anywhere. You guys are sleeping over. Did they take keys and stuff? Yeah, they took keys. But I had my first Jager bomb with a 16-year-old. He taught me

how to do it. I still think even the taking keys like in the in the day and age of uber like let's say a group of the kids sneaks out and gets an uber and then they get into trouble doing whatever not necessarily drinking and driving but doesn't that come back on you then too like it it doesn't have to just be a drinking and

driving situation i think that there's a lot of cases with this it could just be plain and simple kids get sick or something happens right or somebody has to go to the hospital you have to call an ambulance sir and a lot of forbid a lot of the people that luke goes to school with you know their parties are like at parks and things like that so they're open they're not like in backyards of their houses and then there's some people that you know you live on a lake and you're drinking around a lake which is always kind of crazy megan what's going on it's mojo in the

morning hi mojo good morning how are you i'm doing okay what are your thoughts on this So I am a bartender server for a private event staffing company, and I would say the majority of our events in the summertime are now graduation parties. Parents hire us to come and bartend so that they don't have to worry about that. They know, you know, we have a license, so we have to card everyone who looks under the age of 30. So it really has helped people to be able to enjoy their parties and not have to worry about sneaking drinks.

And that's a great idea.

It's fantastic.

That's a great idea to have that. It's also a lot of responsibility on your part because if something slips through the cracks, you don't want to get yourself into trouble. But as a parent, that is like what I was talking about with having the cops at mine was you got to take a little bit of precautions.

Cover your butt.

And the problem with throwing at any kind of party is you feel like you don't even talk to enough of the people that are coming and going to the parties, let alone having now to be the bouncer at a party. Kaylin, what's going on?

Oh, hi. I was calling in because I was a high school teacher for many years. and the first

thing I would ask students when they invited me was, are you guys serving alcohol? Because I refused to go to any grad parties where the parents were serving alcohol because I didn't want something to happen. And then high school teacher at party where there was drinking.

Boy, I never thought about that. That's, that's a big thing. And especially if you're in a picture and you're having a drink in your hand, just as a normal adult. And then there's a kid in the background drinking that too all over social media yep avoiding that all together and it listen most of these parties are going to have alcohol it's the what they do to try to make sure that they keep a semblance of you know nothing bad happening what's up jessica hello hey am i a narc everybody is calling me a narc right now really no oh my god you should see you should see all the text messages here fun hater mojo is not cool anymore i just imagine i would never go to mojo's son's party you're making your son look like a big loser i just imagine you in a huddle with the undercovers beforehand like all right guys this is what you gotta do you take the left

you take the right yeah what do you think jessica so i am in the same situation my daughter just graduated last night and congratulations coming up thank you you as well um and her dad is somebody that left her drink when she's with him and I do not and so um I'm also a teacher in the district where she graduated from so I'm very much like between a rock and a hard place well not really but um the open house I'm like there's going to be kids there that you know I know and I don't really want to be affiliated with it so i have kind of told her i will be exiting stage left at

a certain time and not on me wow that's tough so you guys are not you and her dad are not together

and dad's the fun parent yep he's the fun parent and i'm the i'm the the the narc or whatever i'm

the the not fun but you know from that last caller that we had that teacher i get it though you not only have to worry about you as a parent you have to worry about your job for sure for sure yeah

it's hard and these kids bring their backpacks everywhere and i can i also tell you something

though chelsea and i do believe that these kids should have a drink or two like when they're in a controlled environment before they go away to college because i do worry about my son all of a sudden not being able to like understand what it does to you every kid who was ever in a scary

situation. We're the ones that weren't allowed to experiment at home first and they just hold the board. Yeah. I agree. So I'm kind of grateful that he can be the fun parent and it's in a controlled environment, but I just don't want to be that parent. Yeah.

Listen, I remember at Joe's party, it wasn't necessarily the kids that we worried about because we did have, obviously, those cops there. It was the radio people from the station that we did. It was guys like Fletch. Yes. You know what I mean? walking around and getting drunk with the kids and on the dance floor and stuff. Alright, well congrats to the graduates. It's Mojo in the Morning Show. Oh, look at this. Hold on. Savannah, are you there? I'm here. This is the grad party you want to go to.

So we had an ice luge at my party and my dad was so against it. He was about to have a heart attack. He was like, we're not letting anybody drink. I'm drinking the most off of it.

Wow. By the end of the night, were all the kids doing it?

They were.

Yeah. By the way, somebody just said, since Mojo's party's having no alcohol, maybe it's cannabis friendly. You know, that's the other thing nowadays, too, because, you know, my last couple sons, when they graduated, it wasn't legal here, so.
