This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

00:01:06 - 00:01:51 | Speaker 4:

Alan Lee, my major is drafting and design. In high school, I did it since my sophomore year, and I kind of wanted to continue it. It was the only thing I was good at. I didn't want to move to a four-year yet. I don't think I was mentally prepared. I found Bishop State. They had the program. I met a few people there. I ended up enrolling. The instructor, first time I met him, I told him about my background. He said, okay, great, you know about this. He built me straight to work. He didn't let me have any leeway. He pushed me to my limits. So I think that made me choose drafting design at Bishop State and stuck with it. The sport's amazing. All my instructors just want to see me succeed. They want to push me to my limit. They want to see me be the best I can be, get a job, just be as successful as I can be. And I really appreciate all of them. With my degree, as of right now, my plan is to work for the city of Mobile with their urban planning department. And I've already got a job shadow before, and hopefully I will internship over the summer. If you choose Bishop, we're welcome to have you any day.

It is the Mojo in the Morning show. I thought this was kind of interesting. I went out with some friends, and we were hanging out, and while we were out with friends, one of the friends got a text message from their attorney that their divorce was official. So we're hanging out together, and we're all just standing there, or sitting there at dinner, and we're hanging out. And, you know, all of a sudden, you know, oh, my God, my divorce is official. You know, my ex-wife are now signing the paperwork.

00:02:34 - 00:02:36 | Speaker 5:

Was it good news or was it sad news?

00:02:36 - 00:02:50 | Speaker 8:

Well, everybody then ordered a drink and we raised a glass. And I was like, oh, we're celebrating. We're raising a glass. And then I started feeling kind of weird because I thought to myself, do you raise a glass on something like that? Is that something to celebrate?

00:02:50 - 00:02:51 | Speaker 6:

It's a class to freedom.

00:02:51 - 00:02:52 | Speaker 8:

Well.

00:02:53 - 00:02:54 | Speaker 6:

Something they can never take away.

00:02:54 - 00:02:58 | Speaker 8:

Right. What movie is that from? It's from Hamilton. Is it? Oh, it's from Hamilton.

00:02:59 - 00:02:59 | Unknown:

Sorry.

00:03:00 - 00:03:02 | Speaker 8:

But it wasn't about a divorce, so it wasn't like a-

00:03:02 - 00:03:05 | Speaker 6:

No, it was about the revolution. Oh, okay. No, who knew?

00:03:06 - 00:03:30 | Speaker 8:

Some people would say a war. I felt weird after I'm drinking this drink, I'm going, okay, but is that- So I wanted to ask this question. I wanted to ask the listeners, what did you do the moment that you found out that your divorce was finalized? The moment you found out, did you celebrate? Did you cry? did you get depressed like what was what was your reaction to that what did you do when it was during

00:03:30 - 00:03:52 | Speaker 5:

the show when um my ex-husband had texted me and like we knew that it was like final final and um because we did everything out of court but like you know it was weird i just felt like numb yeah it was during the show so i don't think i cried or anything i just felt weird like strange was it

00:03:52 - 00:03:57 | Speaker 7:

a feeling of like obviously going through the process you know this is what's happening yeah

00:03:57 - 00:04:03 | Speaker 5:

but that moment of finalization feels very very very final it really does yeah so it makes it feel

00:04:03 - 00:04:25 | Speaker 8:

like oh god what the hell just happened kind of thing huh it's almost surreal is it at least that's how i felt yeah because it's weird i will say this to you when you get married and after you get married i know this is going to sound bad to say this i kind of felt numb afterwards Like it wasn't that I was not happy that I got married, but I was like, oh my God, I feel like I got a sense of responsibility right now.

00:04:25 - 00:04:29 | Speaker 7:

What do you think was a stronger emotion? The feeling of getting married or getting divorced?

00:04:30 - 00:04:44 | Speaker 5:

That's a really good question. I don't know. Probably getting divorced. Did you live with your ex-husband before you guys got married? Technically, no. No, but you were staying all the time together.

00:04:44 - 00:04:54 | Speaker 6:

I feel like marriage is less of a change than divorce is. nowadays yeah people have kids or live together or whatever it is that it's like not yeah and we

00:04:54 - 00:05:04 | Speaker 5:

actually still lived together for a little while until his house was ready after It was like finalized, finalized, but there was still that feeling of like a shift.

00:05:05 - 00:05:16 | Speaker 1:

Maybe it's determined based on the reasons why you're getting divorced. Like if it was hell and you're ready to get out, then maybe it is like toasted up. But if you don't really want to separate, then maybe it's hard.

00:05:16 - 00:05:21 | Speaker 2:

And in this case, for him, it was a process. So it was a little bit of a process. What's going on, Glenda? Are you there?

00:05:22 - 00:05:23 | Speaker 5:

I am here.

00:05:23 - 00:05:24 | Speaker 2:

What's going on?

00:05:24 - 00:05:36 | Speaker 5:

This is a long time, all time. Oh, that's weird. Hey, what's going on?

00:05:36 - 00:05:40 | Speaker 2:

Nothing much. We're talking about like, what did you do when you found out that you were officially divorced? What'd you do?

00:05:41 - 00:05:56 | Speaker 5:

Of course, uh, got the gavel, you know, they said you're done. Cool. That was, uh, in the same building where you get your marriage license to go get married again. So I had my future husband on a different floor and got my daughter.

00:05:56 - 00:06:10 | Speaker 2:

Wait a second. This is the call of all calls Wait, we're starting it off So, wait, you officially got divorced It was finalized And then you guys went and got married?

00:06:11 - 00:06:22 | Speaker 5:

We went down and applied for our marriage license At the same time to get married And I got married like Oh, let's see, that was August 15th I got married August 24th

00:06:22 - 00:06:28 | Speaker 2:

Can I tell you, this is like purchasing a gun There should be a waiting period You should not be allowed all of a sudden to do that.

00:06:28 - 00:06:31 | Speaker 5:

Honestly, sometimes these divorces take years.

00:06:32 - 00:06:35 | Speaker 2:

Wait, question for you. Are you still married to the second guy?

00:06:36 - 00:06:44 | Speaker 5:

Absolutely not. Hell yes, Missy! So I say my conclusion to this is raise that glass.

00:06:44 - 00:06:50 | Speaker 2:

Raise that glass and celebrate. Don't go to the courthouse and go get yourself a new marriage license.

00:06:51 - 00:06:52 | Speaker 6:

Absolutely. Words of wisdom.

00:06:53 - 00:07:08 | Speaker 2:

All right. Well, thank you, Glenda. It was so nice to talk to you. That was a great call. Devlin, what's going on? Hey, how you doing? We're good. What did you do the moment you found out? Oh, man, I partied. Matter of fact, I went to a strip bar.

00:07:08 - 00:07:26 | Speaker 3:

I had a great time. Did you really? Yeah, it was like just went to a strip bar. I mean, it was like the pressure was like if you think about a final exam that you've been going through and you just got rid of the test and it was over, it was like the pressure was just so gone. You know, it was an amazing feeling.

00:07:27 - 00:07:34 | Speaker 2:

Please tell me, though, that when you went to the strip club, you at least had buddies there with you. Because if you went by yourself, that is freaking lonely to go by yourself.

00:07:35 - 00:07:47 | Speaker 3:

No, see, you don't understand me. I enjoyed myself. Oh, come on now. This is weird. Come on. I have no witnesses. Nobody can have horror stories. No pictures. No reminders.

00:07:48 - 00:07:52 | Speaker 2:

Did you tell the strippers the story of, like, why you were there?

00:07:53 - 00:08:05 | Speaker 3:

Oh, yeah, and it's even better. You got to have a pity story, you know? I mean, you know. They must hear that a lot, though. She was terrible. She did this to me. Oh, my God. Really? I'm going to give you a discount. Look at this.

00:08:05 - 00:08:22 | Speaker 2:

Oh, my God. What is happening to us this morning? Megan, what did you do? Did you have a party? Did you raise that glass? Mary?

00:08:22 - 00:08:35 | Speaker 6:

I had the best party ever My friends threw me an amazing party I wore my wedding dress We threw down And I have been celebrating every single day since Oh that's cool

00:08:35 - 00:08:37 | Speaker 2:

Alright good so was he that bad?

00:08:38 - 00:08:42 | Speaker 6:

Oh god You want me to tell? We could talk for days

00:08:42 - 00:08:51 | Speaker 2:

It wasn't that last guy we talked to Yeah right No it wasn't him It wasn't Devlin there that we just had out of the air with us a second ago

00:08:51 - 00:08:58 | Speaker 6:

No, it wasn't Devlin, but boy, I can tell you stories. Oh, so happy. Every day, I could celebrate every single day, I swear.

00:08:58 - 00:08:59 | Speaker 2:

I love it.

00:08:59 - 00:09:05 | Speaker 6:

I know that's sad to say. You know, I didn't go into marriage thinking that I would ever celebrate a divorce, but man, oof, I got the bullet.

00:09:06 - 00:09:12 | Speaker 2:

That's amazing. Well, thank you for the call. Ana, this was actually your parents that got divorced. Do you remember what they did?

00:09:14 - 00:09:25 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, so me and my sister, after we found out their divorce was finalized, we had been waiting for years. And once we found out, we got them cakes that said, happy divorce.

00:09:25 - 00:09:31 | Speaker 2:

Wow. So you celebrated with them because their marriage was so volatile, huh?

00:09:32 - 00:09:35 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, it wasn't great, but we were just happy that it was over with.

00:09:36 - 00:09:39 | Speaker 2:

That's tough. You think about this with kids. How old were you at the time?

00:09:40 - 00:09:42 | Speaker 4:

I had just graduated high school. I was probably 20.

00:09:43 - 00:09:43 | Speaker 2:

Okay, yeah.

00:09:43 - 00:09:45 | Speaker 4:

You graduated high school at 20? Hey.

00:09:46 - 00:09:46 | Speaker 2:

Yeah.

00:09:46 - 00:09:50 | Speaker 1:

Well, she had just graduated. Why do you got to say stuff like that? No, she had just graduated.

00:09:50 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 2:

By the way, that is that is the number one time that people are getting divorced.

00:10:00 - 00:10:15 | Speaker 4:

right now is when their kids just graduate from high school and they move on to college you heard joe on our show when he he got proposed he said that he always thought that chelsea and i were going to do that when luke went away to college uh shannon what's up hi shannon what is okay how

00:10:15 - 00:11:00 | Speaker 6:

you doing we're good what did you what's going on not much um i just got to tell you that when i got my divorce i partied like a rock star okay oh my goodness okay so i went and got a bunch of the um plastic handcuffs from like party city or something and i had them open um and put them on all my tables at the club representing freedom i had a cake that said happy divorce day shannon and i had a pair of open handcuffs um had to put a pair of that on the cake um and then i had uh You know you have the cake topper of the husband with the groom and the bride looking at each other smiling?

00:11:00 - 00:11:00 | Speaker 2:

Yeah.

00:11:01 - 00:11:12 | Speaker 6:

I had that, and I cut the head off the groom, and I had it lying at the bottom of her feet so she stood up at nothing smiling. No bad blood there.

00:11:13 - 00:11:17 | Speaker 4:

Sounds like I have. Can you imagine being the person that made that cake, the baker?

00:11:18 - 00:11:23 | Speaker 6:

Oh, trust me. I hadn't done it Kroger. The Kroger and Greenfield.

00:11:23 - 00:11:27 | Speaker 4:

Hey, real quick, Shannon.

00:11:27 - 00:11:56 | Speaker 6:

When I went to go pick the cake up, all the employees were like, is that her? Is that her? Oh, that's so good. It was sweet. I'm telling you, it was sweet. And I had an autographed dog. I think it said congratulations and something, but I crossed it off and put divorce on there. And I had everybody sign it, and everybody was buying champagne all night. Oh, my gosh. I had such a great time.

00:11:56 - 00:12:05 | Speaker 4:

Shannon, do they have a section, like an aisle at Kroger? Or not Kroger, but actually maybe Kroger, too. Or Party City for divorces?

00:12:05 - 00:12:12 | Speaker 6:

Oh, RIP Party City. I don't think so. They should, though. They would still be in business if they did.

00:12:13 - 00:12:16 | Speaker 4:

Sarah, what did you do right after you got divorced?

00:12:17 - 00:12:30 | Speaker 5:

My marriage was really lacking in the bedroom as the wedding and the marriage fizzled out. And so as soon as I was divorced, the first thing I did was go make cookies with somebody new just to make sure I still had it. Yeah, baby.

00:12:30 - 00:12:30 | Speaker 4:

Oh, man.

00:12:31 - 00:12:32 | Speaker 6:

Oh, my God.

00:12:32 - 00:12:37 | Speaker 4:

You, did you know at least the person that you were baking cookies with right after your divorce?

00:12:38 - 00:12:41 | Speaker 5:

Oh, I did. I did. And they reassured me I'm a great baker still.

00:12:41 - 00:12:54 | Speaker 4:

They reassured me. All right. All these calls, by the way, are pretty amazing, aren't they? So I guess raising the glass wasn't so bad yesterday. Look at this one. Megan, what did your mom do? after she got divorced?

00:12:56 - 00:13:11 | Speaker 3:

When she signed divorce papers, I was 16, and she took me to get my belly button pierced. And then after it was finalized, she was never allowed to get her itty-bitties done, and she sold her wedding ring and got her boob job. Wow. Did she really?

00:13:12 - 00:13:18 | Speaker 4:

I love it. So Dad was totally against it, so she ended up going to get him, huh? That's awesome.

00:13:19 - 00:13:21 | Speaker 1:

They look like 36 Ds to me.

00:13:21 - 00:13:25 | Speaker 4:

All right. Well, thank you for the call. I like it.

00:13:25 - 00:13:54 | Speaker 1:

Thank you. They've taken over cities before, but this July, they're bringing the X Games League Championship home to New Orleans. July 24th through 26th at the Superdome. This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

00:14:03 - 00:14:48 | Speaker 7:

My name is Patrick Pettway, and I am getting my Associates of Science and General Education with an emphasis in business administration. To me, it was a no-brainer. When you go out here and you're looking for funding to go back to college as a 40-year-old man, I got six people in my household. The extra money just doesn't just grow out of trees. For me to be able to be accepted through FAFSA and to have Bishop State pay for all of my tuition, not only that, but the curriculums, you know, they make it so easy to understand on their website. Like I said, I'm a 40-year-old man, so I don't use technology too much, but it was very understandable where I needed to go. It was extremely fast. These past two years, things have just moved in a total different type of way. It's like its own moving entity to see things manifest the way that they do.

00:14:48 - 00:14:55 | Speaker 2:
