Good morning, and welcome to the Mojo in the Morning Show. Happy Fat Tuesday, everybody. Fat boy. Good to have you guys here with us. This is a very wonderful tradition, also known as Punchki Day. Yeah. The day that somebody in the office brings in those very heavy donuts known as Punchkis, Punchkis, Puncheks. I mean, they've got all kinds of different names to them, but I know that the Poles love them in Hamtramck. I was listening to Charlie Langton this morning over on our competitive radio station, WWJ, and he was out there in line. He said that the, what's it called? Paradise Bakery, whatever's the bakery. Palace. Palace Bakery, something like that.

00:03:45 - 00:03:47 | Speaker 2:

People were lining up at like 11 p.m.

00:03:47 - 00:03:57 | Speaker 4:

Is that like a popular place to go? Is that Poonsky Palace? They were open at 3 a.m. with a line of people out the door when Charlie was doing this thing.

00:03:57 - 00:03:59 | Speaker 2:

That's Wixie in Toledo. New Palace Bakery.

00:04:00 - 00:04:00 | Speaker 4:

Yeah.

00:04:00 - 00:04:02 | Speaker 2:

Are y'all Boonski people? No.

00:04:02 - 00:04:31 | Speaker 4:

I'll be honest. I love them. But I can't have them anymore because of the gluten stuff. Come on, bro. I know. They have gluten-free ones, but there's like a place in Rochester I think you can go to. And then there's also one in, I think it's like Northville or whatever, that gluten-free bakery. Which one? And to me, it's, like, not worth the drive. You know, I know some people get, like, all crazy. I'll do it, like, for gluten-free stuff. I'll do it for, like, gluten-free pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving. But I'm not going to do this for Punchki Day.

00:04:31 - 00:04:46 | Speaker 2:

To me, Punchkis just remind me so much of a loaded baby diaper. What? That's an insane collection. Like, you get that in your hand and it's like, you don't like filled things, though. I don't like filled things, right. But my Pop-Tart cookies.

00:04:46 - 00:04:47 | Speaker 4:

Wait, you don't like, what did you say?

00:04:47 - 00:04:54 | Speaker 2:

Like, I don't like, um, like filled donuts, anything that has like a, like a jelly inside of it. Really?

00:04:55 - 00:05:10 | Speaker 3:

A strawberry poonski with the red blessing out? Please. Yeah, I know. I'm a Boston creamer. I like to have chocolate on the top and the creamy stuff on the inside of that thing. Whoa. It's so good. What do you like, Megan? Do you like the prune ones?

00:05:10 - 00:05:17 | Speaker 5:

No. Prune? Yeah, that's like the traditional one, isn't it? I like the apple ones and the lemon ones.

00:05:18 - 00:05:18 | Speaker 3:

Yeah.

00:05:18 - 00:05:18 | Speaker 5:

Yeah.

00:05:19 - 00:05:28 | Speaker 3:

Man, oh man. Those are good ones. But those are traditional ones. Do you have Polish in you, Megan? No, Irish. Okay, so it's 100% Irish. There's no Polish at all.

00:05:28 - 00:05:28 | Speaker 5:

No.

00:05:30 - 00:05:31 | Speaker 3:

Um, I used to...

00:05:31 - 00:05:32 | Speaker 5:

Hence the Megan Mick.

00:05:32 - 00:05:57 | Speaker 3:

Oh, I know, but, you know, like, I'm Cuban and Irish, so I got 50-50 on that one. But we were raised, after my mom died, my surrogate mother was Steve Gorski's mom. And Mrs. Gorski, she was, man, she would make all kinds of Polish stuff, including, she made homemade ponchkis, ponchkis, and she made galumpki and pierogis, and... Oh, pierogis. Oh, so good.

00:05:58 - 00:05:59 | Speaker 5:

I love pierogis.

00:05:59 - 00:06:11 | Speaker 3:

Yesterday we talked Chick-fil-A versus Raising Cane's. We might have to talk like which ethnic families make the best food, you know? Filipinos. Who?

00:06:12 - 00:06:12 | Speaker 4:

Filipinos.

00:06:13 - 00:06:13 | Speaker 3:

Filipino.

00:06:13 - 00:06:17 | Speaker 4:

I don't think I've ever had Filipino food. Really? Yeah.

00:06:17 - 00:07:03 | Speaker 3:

I got to try some of that. Well, today is one of those days where I hope that somebody in the office or one of these places likes to do a free plug on the radio. Maybe they'll bring some in for you guys so you guys can enjoy. It could be the day. We're all getting fat. I liked it that the thing was you eat as much as you want because you're going to be giving up stuff for Lent starting tomorrow. That's the thought process? Yeah, because tomorrow is Ash Wednesday and then Lent begins and the Catholic faith. What are you giving up? You know, we should ask. That would be a good thing to the listeners. One listener one year, I think I did that as a topic. What should we give up for Lent? And the listener said that I should give up. Uh, uh, every time I say it, I have to like put money in a collection basket or something.

00:07:03 - 00:07:14 | Speaker 1:

Please don't give up the mojo in the morning. So no, we've had people do that before. Please, please, please. You don't have to give up something for letting you know. You can also add something positive into your life. So just maybe add.

00:07:14 - 00:07:17 | Speaker 4:

Is that the remix? Is that like how it's supposed to be done?

00:07:17 - 00:07:40 | Speaker 1:

No, it's just, it's just supposed to be like a change that you have to sustain for the 40 days. I thought it was a sacrifice. Like you're supposed to give up something. It is, but it can also be, like, a positive change. Like, for example, I can remember my pastor gave me the recommendation of, like, replacing social media apps with, like, a devotional app or something like that. So you're adding in.

00:07:40 - 00:07:42 | Speaker 3:

So I guess that actually is giving up.

00:07:42 - 00:07:44 | Speaker 1:

I guess. Yeah, but that's good, though. I like that one.

00:07:45 - 00:07:53 | Speaker 3:

I like the people that do do that. Like, they go hardcore. Because, Lydia, you're doing it, right? Aren't you? Or, no, Bianca. Bianca was telling me. Bianca's giving up something, right?

00:07:54 - 00:07:55 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, I'm giving up alcohol.

00:07:56 - 00:07:59 | Speaker 3:

Wow, so you're going to go dry for 40, is it 40, is that what it is?

00:07:59 - 00:08:00 | Speaker 2:

I think it's 40 days, yeah.

00:08:00 - 00:08:01 | Speaker 4:

Yeah. Like when I was in the wilderness.

00:08:02 - 00:08:09 | Speaker 3:

That's bigger than, to me, dry whatever. January. Because that's only 30 or 31 days, right?

00:08:09 - 00:08:15 | Speaker 2:

I should give up alcohol, too. So, I'm actually going to exempt myself during Disney, though, next week. Does that count?

00:08:15 - 00:08:20 | Speaker 3:

So, you're going to Disney next week, where you can drink around the world or whatever it is?

00:08:20 - 00:08:23 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, look at Lydia shaking her head. No, I mean, she's so disappointed. You can't do that.

00:08:24 - 00:08:30 | Speaker 3:

You can. I think it's like no meat on Fridays, but you can actually have a priest give you a dispensation for certain things.

00:08:30 - 00:08:32 | Speaker 2:

Okay, I'm still going to do no meat on Fridays, though.

00:08:32 - 00:08:33 | Speaker 3:

Yeah. It's cheating.

00:08:33 - 00:08:44 | Speaker 5:

Yes, it's cheating. Can I make a suggestion now? Dude, they bring all the fish sandwiches to all of the fast food places. Wendy's has the best one. Wendy's has the best fish sandwich.

00:08:44 - 00:08:46 | Speaker 1:

I don't think I've ever had a fast food fish sandwich.

00:08:46 - 00:08:55 | Speaker 4:

Bro, I like filet of fish. They're good? I've had a filet of fish since I was like 11. Really? Looking at them blue wrappings just make my stomach hurt.

00:08:55 - 00:08:59 | Speaker 1:

I think you made me try one, Mojo, years and years and years ago because I'd never had one.

00:08:59 - 00:09:11 | Speaker 3:

Filet-O-Fish might be one of the better options because the bread, the bun that McDonald's uses for just their, like, Filet-O-Fish, it's, like, so silky.

00:09:11 - 00:09:13 | Speaker 4:

Silky? It's different?

00:09:14 - 00:09:14 | Speaker 3:

There's something to it.

00:09:14 - 00:09:18 | Speaker 4:

It's a different bread? It is. It's not just the regular sesame seed bun?

00:09:18 - 00:09:21 | Speaker 3:

No, it's kind of the same bread they use for the regular hamburger.

00:09:22 - 00:09:23 | Speaker 4:

I thought they all were the same.

00:09:24 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, no, they're so good. Wow. Yeah, it's like just, it's wonderful. And it's like the same kind of filet that they use in the Gordon's frozen food. We trust the Gordon's fishermen. Do you ever see those commercials? Yeah. Gordon's on them. I got a text from Grace over at American Coney Island, the non-rat Coney Island. Good morning, Grace. And she wants to bring over Coney poonskis They put Coney's inside the poonskis Instead of they filling him with

00:10:00 - 00:10:09 | Speaker 4:

And they teamed up with one of the biggest poonchki makers. So they're doing the poonchki outside, but you make a dog.

00:10:10 - 00:10:10 | Speaker 8:

Oh, Grace.

00:10:11 - 00:10:13 | Speaker 4:

And I'm like, that sounds like an interesting idea, Grace.

00:10:13 - 00:10:14 | Speaker 8:

Grace, why?

00:10:15 - 00:10:25 | Speaker 4:

It sounds like we're trying to kill people. I like, it's innovative. But she said, just text me a second ago. She said, you wanted some freebies. I'll bring some stuff over to you guys. What's up, Sean? How you doing?

00:10:26 - 00:10:27 | Speaker 1:

Great. How are you guys?

00:10:28 - 00:10:40 | Speaker 4:

Good, Sean. Oh, Sean's wants to, the topic that I guess we got into off of all of our just, you know, smattering of craziness that we're talking about this morning is the best fast food fish sandwich.

00:10:40 - 00:10:45 | Speaker 8:

He's like, I got a call. Why don't we do a podcast? If it's not Wendy's, hang up.

00:10:45 - 00:10:50 | Speaker 4:

No, no, no. Which one's the best, Sean? Culver's. Culver's.

00:10:50 - 00:10:56 | Speaker 8:

Oh, you know what? They have a fish sandwich. Yes, and it's year-round and it's pretty good. You're right. Is it cod? You're right. Yeah.

00:10:56 - 00:11:16 | Speaker 4:

It's absolutely amazing. That was crazy. Random question. Is it cod? It's levels of fast food. Culver's isn't at the McDonald's level. Correct. I agree with you. It's like upper echelon fast food. What is it made with? Do we know what kind of fish that is? It's cod. No. It's usually cod, but during Lint, they also have walleye. Come on.

00:11:16 - 00:11:25 | Speaker 8:

What's wrong with cod? I love walleye. I love walleye. You got to go to Detroit 75K. You got to go to Toledo. There's a lot of walleye in Toledo.

00:11:25 - 00:11:42 | Speaker 4:

I personally would like it to be a sea bass. if there's a Chilean sea bass in between the buns. I find it so funny that people actually do eat the fish. Although, have you guys ever been to little Long John Silver's? Oh, back in the day?

00:11:42 - 00:11:51 | Speaker 8:

Give me some hush puppies, baby. Oh, my gosh. We found a copycat recipe this week. Literally, Zach, my brother, and I were talking about that this week. Really? Yes.

00:11:52 - 00:11:57 | Speaker 4:

I used to see that yellow sign. That's unreal. That Long John Silver's.

00:11:57 - 00:11:57 | Speaker 8:

Do they still have them? Yes.

00:11:58 - 00:12:15 | Speaker 4:

One of my buddies growing up worked at Long John Silver's, and he had to wear that stupid outfit, and we used to make fun of him all the time because he would come over to the house after he was done with work, and he would smell like fish. We were like, dude, go home and shower before you come over and play basketball with all of us.

00:12:15 - 00:12:40 | Speaker 6:
