Hidden Florida and Beyond with Mark Wahlberg, May 21st.

00:01:48 - 00:01:52 | Speaker 9:

All right, it is a mojo in the morning. Megan had something crazy happen to her.

00:01:52 - 00:02:06 | Speaker 7:

somebody tried to sell you coke um yeah this isn't the first time i mean i don't know how to brag but i'm pretty cool and i hang out at cool places where coke usually is don't mean to brag but

00:02:06 - 00:02:10 | Speaker 9:

do they think that you are a person that does coke or something like that that they're coming

00:02:10 - 00:02:29 | Speaker 7:

up and i don't even know how i give off vibes like if i give off any vibes please it's mushrooms at most okay at most not cocaine also what do you think i am rich look at me while i'm walking around i can't afford coke i'm more of a crack girl please is cocaine expensive because back

00:02:29 - 00:02:40 | Speaker 9:

in the day they always used to talk about how it's the rich person's drug but i feel like nowadays cocaine is no like everybody's uh selling like bad cocaine or something for rich kids it's

00:02:40 - 00:03:28 | Speaker 7:

just rich kids are getting bad cocaine that's still expensive uh as whitney says crack is whack She was rich. She does cocaine. So I was out and I had this guy come up to me and approach me with a petition and asked me to sign for it for his band and asked for a monetary donation. Wait, where were you? I was outside of the throne war. And I laughed because usually the kids who ask for that kind of thing are in high school, right? And we all know it's still a scam. They're just trying to get money. But at least it's for their high school marching band to go to states or get new uniforms or whatever. And I'm like, sir, you look like you are 34 years old. I know. You are not in a high school marching band. You have a full mustache. Like, kids that are in high school, they still have the peachy stragglers. Like, you have real facial hair, sir. Like, please.

00:03:28 - 00:03:32 | Speaker 9:

Did you say to them, say, excuse me, I don't do cocaine, but do you have those Snickers bars here?

00:03:32 - 00:03:58 | Speaker 7:

No, no, cocaine hasn't come to that. Oh, yes, sir. If you wait a listen, we're still at the petition for the band. So I say, you know, I don't have any cash on me. Sorry, because like, you know, I'm not getting scammed by you. No, thanks. And he rips the petition out of my hand and he goes, fine. You want some cocaine? And I said, are you serious, sir? I just said I don't have cash. And he rolled his eyes at me and said, well, I would have taken cash app and walked away.

00:03:59 - 00:04:09 | Speaker 9:

Wait a second. Drug dealers sell via cash app? You got to keep up with the times, bro. Come on. Who has cash? I thought that they don't want it to be, you know.

00:04:10 - 00:04:17 | Speaker 6:

Yeah, but you just put in the notes like, pizza, thanks. By the way, I've never bought frogs.

00:04:17 - 00:04:18 | Speaker 9:

Sure, man.

00:04:18 - 00:04:22 | Speaker 8:

I saw that nose emoji on Venmo.

00:04:22 - 00:04:39 | Speaker 6:

The last time somebody asked me if I wanted to buy cocaine, actually the only time, I was with one of my girlfriends, and I was so offended. I'm like, what about me screams? Oh, I love those pickles. I really was so offended by it.

00:04:39 - 00:04:40 | Speaker 4:

I've never been asked to do cocaine.

00:04:41 - 00:04:41 | Speaker 6:

To buy?

00:04:42 - 00:04:46 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, I've never not. I've seen people do it, but that ain't my life.

00:04:46 - 00:04:47 | Speaker 6:

I've never even seen somebody do it.

00:04:48 - 00:04:54 | Speaker 9:

I think that's... Really? Never. First off, that is wild in itself to think that the guy is out asking for a petition.

00:04:54 - 00:04:56 | Speaker 6:

Pretending to be a high school kid.

00:04:56 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 9:

And doing a petition signing. Which, by the way... Clever.

00:05:00 - 00:05:49 | Speaker 3:

If you are a politician, you want to get some people to register to vote. Start giving out cocaine to people. Now you're talking. It's like, hold on a second. Who's running for, we got 8,000 people running for the mayor of Detroit. And there you go. We'll give out some cocaine. Cocaine to me in itself is like something that you see just on like movies on TV or something, you know? Cocaine popping out here. Is that like the big deal now? They used to say a lot of the bankers used to do it. Very scary. I can't confirm where they're not. Luke said, and this is another one, too. If you have a kid that's going to spring break or you're a kid going to spring break, Luke said that when he was in Punta Cana, there were literally the people that worked at the hotels were offering kids cocaine all the time. And to me, that is where there's that fentanyl stuff, too, because they're saying fentanyl is killing people.

00:05:49 - 00:05:57 | Speaker 4:

A couple of days ago, it was like the biggest fentanyl bust ever in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Really? I saw that.

00:05:57 - 00:06:00 | Speaker 3:

It's like, was it 200 pounds or not 200 pounds? More than that.

00:06:00 - 00:06:10 | Speaker 4:

It was something crazy. They said upwards of, I don't even know what this is, 999 grams. I don't know. I don't know what this means.

00:06:10 - 00:06:12 | Speaker 3:

But it's a lot of money worth, right?

00:06:14 - 00:06:23 | Speaker 4:

Oh, God. Yeah. The guy is facing 30 years in prison. I'm trying to remember the story. Yeah, but I feel like if you carry around two joints, you're facing 30 years in prison.

00:06:23 - 00:06:26 | Speaker 3:

Do they know that the guy has been hanging out in Detroit trying to get people?

00:06:26 - 00:06:43 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, okay, so they said a lethal dose of fentanyl can be as small as two milligrams. This guy had five, at least 500, upwards of 999. Wait, that's a big difference. I know, the capacity to kill 250,000 people. Damn. Is what this guy had.

00:06:44 - 00:06:47 | Speaker 3:

Wow. This is Grand Rapids? Yes. Melissa, what's up?

00:06:47 - 00:06:48 | Speaker 4:

Sorry, my hat keeps hitting the microphone.

00:06:48 - 00:07:29 | Speaker 1:

A few years ago, I was in San Francisco with my mother, who was in her 80s, and my sister who's in her 50s and I'm in my 40s and we were just walking around looking at all the you know fun stores in San Francisco and we walked into this kind of crazy store with a bunch of tie-dye and at the end of the thing the guy asked us hey so uh you're just out partying yeah I'm with my mom whatever would you like to buy some acid and my sister and I my sister being very you know straight laced was like uh no I think we're good we're just gonna stick with the pot gummies nobody says that and she's like well i didn't know what to say

00:07:29 - 00:07:42 | Speaker 3:

explain that to me explain how some random nice ladies like you sound like a nice lady melissa and your 80 year old mom are getting offered acid by these people why did they pick you

00:07:42 - 00:08:03 | Speaker 1:

well we were in that part of san francisco that was you know they kind of a little crazy and we were in a store that was obviously you know a little more psychedelic but yeah we just my sister was like i didn't know what to say like what what do you say to somebody that's working there and and they were working in the store and they just thought maybe we'd want some drugs

00:08:03 - 00:08:10 | Speaker 4:

like i've got gushers and slime in my purse okay what about me screams i need acid well maybe it's

00:08:10 - 00:08:39 | Speaker 3:

that actually my favorite thing with cocaine is when people call it booger sugar yeah booger sugar got some booger sugar have you ever seen anybody do that no i worked with the guy that did cocaine and uh freak me out and i and it was honestly not uh it was not a great situation and he would he would always offer it to me and i have a problem i will try most things and then become addicted to it so i knew that that was something i did not want to become addicted to well that

00:08:39 - 00:08:48 | Speaker 5:

And once you're around people who use cocaine, you realize, I've never enjoyed being around anybody who's ever been on cocaine. They're all the most annoying people on the planet.

00:08:48 - 00:08:54 | Speaker 3:

When he did it, he would get the natural buzz. Like, it was kind of like people that do Adderall and stuff like that, too.

00:08:55 - 00:08:55 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, yeah.

00:08:55 - 00:08:56 | Speaker 3:

Which, by the way-

00:08:56 - 00:08:57 | Speaker 4:

I've also never taken an Adderall.

00:08:57 - 00:09:05 | Speaker 3:

Nowadays, too, if with Adderall, if it ain't a prescription that comes from CVS or, you know, Walgreens, you do not take it because I'm telling you-

00:09:05 - 00:09:09 | Speaker 4:

We know somebody very close to us who lost their kid.

00:09:09 - 00:09:11 | Speaker 3:

Lost their kid. What's up, Ashley? Hi.

00:09:12 - 00:09:14 | Speaker 2:

Hey, good morning, guys.

00:09:14 - 00:09:14 | Speaker 3:

Hey.

00:09:15 - 00:09:32 | Speaker 2:

I was at the bar once and someone asked me if I ski and I was just like, oh, you know, I tried it once. I might be down to do it again. And then he whipped out a bag of Coke. Oh, my God. What? And then I was like, oh, no, no. I meant like the sport. I meant real skiing. And he had meant like, you know, two white lines.

00:09:32 - 00:09:40 | Speaker 3:

Oh, I would not have. Ashley, I'm so not cool, I would have fallen for that one, too. I'd be like, nah, I'm afraid of screwing my knees up.

00:09:41 - 00:09:44 | Speaker 5:

And it was also July, so there was no snow to be found around here to go skate. Right.

00:09:45 - 00:09:55 | Speaker 3:

What if you had to say it now? I'm a snowboarder. Yeah. I don't know. Ben, what's up? Morning. How you doing? Good. What's going on? You know what you sounded like?

00:09:55 - 00:09:56 | Speaker 1:

Oh, not a lot.

00:09:57 - 00:10:00 | Speaker 3:

When you just did the morning, your morning there, it was like.

00:10:00 - 00:10:02 | Speaker 8:

Morning. Best time of day to go.

00:10:02 - 00:10:05 | Speaker 6:

F*** yourself. That's what I thought you were. What's going on?

00:10:06 - 00:10:38 | Speaker 8:

Oh, I just thought I'd make a comment. Oh, I'm sorry. As a company, we install a whole house generator. You know, nice generac. Get your power going with no power. Anyways, after installing a gas sign for a homeowner. Yeah. Oh, after installing a gas sign for a homeowner, we were talking and he asked me, he was like, you look like a party guy. You want some party drugs? I was like, excuse me? He's like, yeah, I got some Coke. I got Molly. He's like, I got weed. Whatever you want, I can give it to you. I was like, I'll take the weed, sir. I'm good. Thank you.

00:10:38 - 00:10:56 | Speaker 6:

Now I feel weird that all I offer them are snags and water when they come to my house. You're dropping the ball. Where was this at again? No one is passing. Downriver, Michigan. Downriver. The Generac guy is getting himself a buzz. Unreal. Well, thank you for the call. I appreciate it.

00:10:58 - 00:10:59 | Speaker 8:

No problem. Have a good rest of your day.

00:10:59 - 00:11:10 | Speaker 6:

I told you the story one time about the guy that came to my house, and he actually said, hey, do you want something to eat or drink? And he's like, yeah, no problem. And he sat down and ate a full plate of dinner with us. Remember that?

00:11:11 - 00:11:12 | Speaker 5:

That was recent.

00:11:12 - 00:11:15 | Speaker 6:

Yeah, that was like, man, the guy ate my food.

00:11:15 - 00:11:43 | Speaker 1:

We've all seen the headlines. Florida man wrestles alligator in a tuxedo or Florida man sues after finding toenails in his ice cream.

00:12:25 - 00:12:30 | Speaker 3:

It's easy to laugh at the meme, but have you ever wondered about the human behind the headline?

00:12:30 - 00:12:31 | Speaker 5:

Hey, I'm Frankie P.

00:12:31 - 00:12:36 | Speaker 3:

And I'm Amelia. On our podcast, Hidden Florida and Beyond, we're going beneath the surface of the sunshine state.

00:12:36 - 00:12:43 | Speaker 7:

From interviews with real people who make Florida weird. I'm pulling it up and as I'm pulling it up, I see an arm.
