This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

00:01:23 - 00:02:05 | Speaker 1:

My name is Naterika Terry LaMille, and my major is general education. Some of the obstacles I have overcame at Bishop State is proving that I can show up consistently, even when my life was heavy. There are moments where I still feel overwhelmed by balancing work, leadership, parenting, and school, but Bishop reminded me that I'm capable of growth and not perfection, that I'm supported as long as I'm committed to being a better person than I was yesterday. My peers can depend on me. I'm there being poured into, but some of those students don't know that the faculty and stuff are really there for them so when they don't know that i'm their resource that explain

00:02:05 - 00:02:21 | Speaker 4:

and show them that they're here to help us ready to make your own bishop statement visit bishop.edu today and start building your tomorrow at bishop state community college eat a lot with people who annoy the hell out of you why don't you come on sit next to your auntie

happy thanksgiving from mojo in the morning oh mojo in the morning i love it there's nothing better than thanksgiving i'm excited for it i thought it's uh kind of appropriate that we celebrate a holiday where all we do is eat and watch football which was basically yesterday that's all i did right i mean come on although we can get away with it on this day this is the the one day that you can and the thing that you feel bad for is you feel bad for the poor people that have to cook for the first time whether you got a new relationship that you're now all of a sudden bringing family in and you're cooking for or maybe it's the uh okay now you guys can officially host because we can't host any more thanksgivings and i always remember the stress that chelsea had the first time that my family was coming for thanksgiving and i felt so bad because you know we were just a small family at the time we were just a family of four because we didn't have even have luke at the time and my sisters who i always talk and i never realized the anxiety that i give you know and you can give your your spouse when all you do is talk about oh my god my mom is such a good cook or oh my god my sister mary joe makes the best stuffing uh oh my god i love you know aunt pat's hawaiian salad you know stuff like that chelsea went out and this is what she did she went and had my sister's teacher how to do the different items So she learned how to do the stuffing that my sister Mary Jo makes, the mashed potatoes that my sister Tracy makes, and she makes them for us. And I'm like, Chelsea, this is unbelievable. What will we carry from you to our Thanksgiving dinner? And she says, the Hawaiian rolls. There you go. I'm carrying them well. And the wine. And the wine, too. Ranch water this year. Yeah, ranch water. it's so funny it's so funny because without uh you know knowing what it's like to do this you have no clue and i know megan you have like anxiety because i know you're going to be cooking for your brother and your dad and you guys are going to be having your first in your new apartment which is going to be fun let's talk about the stress of this but let's talk to those people that had something crazy happen to them 844 mojo live 844-665-6548 is our telephone number What did you do the first Thanksgiving that you were hosting for your family members? Because everybody's got a monumental moment. Like the I didn't turn the oven on thing. Like didn't preheat the oven. Been there, done that. What's up, Hope? How you doing?

00:04:58 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 2:

I'm doing good. How are you?

00:04:59 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 5:

Good.

00:05:00 - 00:05:10 | Speaker 3:

Hope, this happened to another family member of mine. Actually, my sister Tracy, when she was hosting one of the first ones. Tell everybody what you did, your first Thanksgiving you hosted.

00:05:11 - 00:06:12 | Speaker 2:

Okay, so two things you need to know. I never eat until after everybody has sat down and got their plate, and I go and take like 10 minutes to myself. So I always make my boyfriend cut the turkey, and I leave the kitchen. My job is done. and i hate dark meat so when i came back to make my plate i thought these piglet kids of mine ate all the white meat and i'm like you guys know that i don't eat dark meat and they're like there was only like two pieces of kind of white meat i'm like okay so i just bought a turkey with no fry and they were like i don't know what happened mom but there there's just no white meat and it It turns out when I was transferring the turkey out of the pan at the end of dinner and putting everything away, I baked the turkey upside down. These all stuck to the bottom of the pan.

00:06:12 - 00:06:23 | Speaker 3:

You know what's funny? My sister did that same exact thing. And she actually said that she was about to call up and complain to the grocery store that sold her a turkey with no white meat.

00:06:23 - 00:06:26 | Speaker 2:

I thought I had an anorexic turkey.

00:06:26 - 00:06:30 | Speaker 3:

It's like, what happened to my turkey, for gosh sakes? What's up, Bridget? How you doing?

00:06:32 - 00:07:05 | Speaker 1:

Oh, I'm doing better now that I know how to cook a turkey. So, you know how they say not to stuff your turkey? So, of course, I never chucked the inside of the turkey. Well, they put the giblets on the inside of the turkey, and I never knew that. And I cooked it with the paper and the giblets in the inside. And also, they attached plastic to the legs. So, I never chucked the inside. And I just put it as is and, you know, watered the outside and cooked it with the paper and the giblets inside of the turkey.

00:07:06 - 00:07:08 | Speaker 3:

Which takes like 10 times longer to cook, too, doesn't it?

00:07:09 - 00:07:19 | Speaker 1:

Right. And, you know, my mom's like, don't ever stuff your turkey. It'll make you sick. Well, don't ever cook it with paper and giblets inside there, either. It's not good, either.

00:07:19 - 00:07:23 | Speaker 3:

You couldn't eat the legs because the plastic melted right onto the thing, too.

00:07:23 - 00:07:27 | Speaker 1:

No, my sister's like, so where's the giblets for the gravy? I'm like, what are you talking about?

00:07:27 - 00:07:28 | Speaker 3:

Yeah.

00:07:29 - 00:07:36 | Speaker 1:

She's looking at me like, I'm blind, and it's like the blind moment. And she's like, oh, my God. I'm like, oh.

00:07:37 - 00:07:39 | Speaker 3:

You'll never do it again, though. You see that?

00:07:39 - 00:07:46 | Speaker 1:

Oh, no. Now I order a meal from Kroger. You know what I'm trying? One and done.

00:07:47 - 00:07:49 | Speaker 3:

Julie, hi. What's going on?

00:07:49 - 00:08:07 | Speaker 1:

Good morning. So, the first year that me and my husband did it for both of our families, actually, we did two turkeys. I did the one in the oven, and he did the one in the deep fryer. He's outside and comes running in. He blew up the deep fryer. Oh, my God. That's going to be really dangerous.

00:08:07 - 00:08:08 | Speaker 4:

That's really scary.

00:08:08 - 00:08:18 | Speaker 1:

Yes. Was he okay? He was fine, but the whole, like, look on his face was utter shock, and his face was hilarious.

00:08:18 - 00:08:42 | Speaker 3:

That's the hardest part. Like, deep frying a turkey is the most delicious turkey you'll ever eat. But I have literally worried that I would be that house in the neighborhood that would be on the news, you know? And it's tough. I always think that when you're deep frying a turkey that what's going to happen is the grease is going to boil over. It's going to land on that propane tank that you have, and it's going to, like, cause an explosion or something like that.

00:08:42 - 00:09:17 | Speaker 4:

I remember when I first moved into my neighborhood that I'm in now, my neighbor came over because he saw me doing it in the driveway. And he's like, hey, what you doing? I'm like, I don't know, deep frying a turkey. He's like, do you need some help? I was like, no, no, I got it. So I go to put the turkey in, and it starts bubbling, like, almost like it's going to go over. And he's like, are you sure you don't need anything? Because I can help you. I'd done it before, and I was fine. Everything was fine. But he was very worried. Do you think Ali called him? I think he, now that I know him more, he's very concerned about the neighborhood. Like, he watches everything a lot.

00:09:17 - 00:09:19 | Speaker 3:

He thinks that the fire is going to spread to his house. Yes.

00:09:19 - 00:09:20 | Speaker 4:

He's very concerned.

00:09:21 - 00:09:39 | Speaker 3:

I didn't realize that you put less oil in the pan than it's supposed to be there because you're supposed to weigh it. And I don't know if you guys are really smart. I'm not. And you have to like weigh what the turkey is compared to how much oil you're putting in there. Because when you put the turkey in there and you slowly put it in, the oil comes all up.

00:09:39 - 00:09:40 | Speaker 4:

Well, yeah, yeah, yeah.

00:09:40 - 00:09:47 | Speaker 3:

Well, I didn't do great in math class. You just got to eye it, right? You just got to guess. Is this Ali?

00:09:49 - 00:09:50 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, Ali.

00:09:50 - 00:09:52 | Speaker 3:

Hey, Ali or Ali?

00:09:53 - 00:09:53 | Speaker 1:

Ali.

00:09:53 - 00:09:55 | Speaker 3:

Hey, Ali. How you doing?

00:09:55 - 00:09:56 | Speaker 1:

Good. How are you?

00:09:56 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 3:

Good. What did you do in your first Thanksgiving? You were preparing?

00:10:00 - 00:10:46 | Speaker 2:

Um, I decided to mayo, like, my entire turkey, supposedly. That was, like, the best way to do it. And I put, like, literally two jars of mayo on this turkey. And the way that my grandmother told me to do it, we put it in a glass container, the glass dish. And we were moving it, and it flipped. And the whole turkey, because it was just so slick, flipped onto the floor. And the dog was just right there. Oh, my God. No, no, no. Eating the whole thing. We have, like, a German Shepherd, like, hybrid-based. This is, like, I'm pretty sure he's a wolf, and we could not catch him. He went downstairs and hid in this, like, little... I don't know how he got into it with his big body, and...

00:10:46 - 00:10:47 | Speaker 4:

He took the turkey with him?

00:10:48 - 00:10:48 | Unknown:

Yep.

00:10:49 - 00:10:51 | Speaker 4:

Oh, my God. Put the mayo on the turkey thing.

00:10:51 - 00:10:52 | Speaker 2:

We never saw it again.

00:10:53 - 00:10:56 | Speaker 4:

Is mayoing the turkey, like, basting the turkey with mayonnaise?

00:10:56 - 00:11:16 | Speaker 2:

Yeah. I never saw it. Yeah, it's supposed to, it just basically, like, makes your, like, the skin just really crazy and, like, golden, and it just locks in the moisture, and you're actually supposed to use two, like, Kroger bags and put them, like, together, and you use the bags to kind of insulate it, and I'm telling you, it's the best.

00:11:16 - 00:11:19 | Speaker 4:

I've never done that or heard of that before. That's amazing.

00:11:19 - 00:11:21 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, but I forgot the bags. That was the problem.

00:11:21 - 00:11:46 | Speaker 4:

Oh, jeez. My gosh. How many times has somebody's dog ruined their Thanksgiving by jumping up on the countertop? It wasn't Thanksgiving, but it was Christmas. I remember the dog jumped up and got my sister's beef. She was cooking a prime rib or something, and the dog got up there and was like, all over the beef. That's one of those ones where it's like, all right, Jets pizza, are you open? What's up, Stephanie?

00:11:46 - 00:11:56 | Speaker 1:

hi uh my grandma was baking the pumpkin pies and she forgot to put the sugar in all of our pumpkin

00:11:56 - 00:12:01 | Speaker 4:

pies that had to be the worst tasting pies ever was it like you're all biting it together going

00:12:01 - 00:12:07 | Speaker 1:

i don't really think this is supposed to taste like this oh yeah we all spit it out immediately

00:12:07 - 00:12:12 | Speaker 4:

poor grandma i wonder how many times one ingredient missing turns out to be like the

00:12:12 - 00:12:17 | Speaker 1:

worst thanksgiving ever you know oh thankfully kroger was so open

00:12:17 - 00:12:26 | Speaker 4:

uh laura what's up it's mojo in the morning this is a good one any by the way we're gonna

00:12:26 - 00:13:24 | Speaker 3:

title this crapped in the camper what happened okay so it wasn't for thanksgiving but uh this year we do an annual year or excuse me an annual camping trip um this year i was in charge of doing all the grocery shopping and i was all excited proud ribs stacked to the nine chicken the whole thing in my portable electrical hot and cold cooler um left it in the camper and i got switched to to hot and i didn't know that and i'm walking around i can smell it and i going out to the outside the camper to the kids who took a dump in the camper because it smells like butthole and then that's when i figured out that the cooler had been switched to hot for the last like six hours oh no there goes two hundred dollars worth oh my god oh i'd be so mad so it

00:13:24 - 00:13:39 | Speaker 4:

was it was heating up the meat huh oh yeah i was cooking it by the way there's nothing there's There's nothing better than the mom that has to yell, who crapped? Who crapped in the camper? Who smells like butthole?

00:13:40 - 00:13:43 | Speaker 3:

Exactly. I tell my people on the side. Oh, Lord.

00:13:43 - 00:13:44 | Speaker 4:

Yeah.

00:13:44 - 00:13:46 | Speaker 3:

You smell like butthole. Get away from me.

00:13:46 - 00:13:57 | Speaker 4:

By the way, that is actually a funny one. Growing up with boys as our children, how many times have we had the, I didn't flush the toilet when the guests were coming over to the house?

00:13:57 - 00:14:00 | Speaker 3:

And then it kind of like disintegrated.

00:14:01 - 00:14:08 | Speaker 4:

And you're like, guys, I think you clogged the toilet. No, you didn't clog the toilet. You just didn't flush the toilet. Oh, it's disgusting.

00:14:08 - 00:14:10 | Speaker 3:

Don't flush at somebody's house you don't like.

00:14:11 - 00:14:13 | Speaker 4:

Oh, wait, you do this on purpose?

00:14:13 - 00:14:17 | Speaker 3:

Who are you? I did this once. You're a monster.

00:14:17 - 00:14:18 | Speaker 4:

Whose house was it?

00:14:19 - 00:14:20 | Speaker 3:

Oh, I can't say.

00:14:21 - 00:14:23 | Speaker 4:

So you went in there? Did you take a big old duty?

00:14:24 - 00:14:25 | Speaker 3:

Oh, it was massive. It was massive.

00:14:27 - 00:14:29 | Speaker 4:

The size of my turkey I'm going to eat on Thursday.

00:14:29 - 00:14:33 | Speaker 3:

You know what? Probably. I left it full because I was mad.

00:14:33 - 00:14:36 | Speaker 4:

How long do you think you'd stayed there before they found it?

00:14:38 - 00:14:41 | Speaker 3:

I don't know. Nobody said anything to me about it.

00:14:42 - 00:14:45 | Speaker 4:

That's awesome. Do you think somebody crapped in the camper then because they were mad at you?

00:14:46 - 00:14:52 | Speaker 3:

No. It wasn't even anybody that goes camping with us. It was definitely the cooler that got turned on to hot.

00:14:52 - 00:14:59 | Speaker 4:

If you have Laura on your Thanksgiving invite list, cross it right off. Take care, Laura.

00:14:59 - 00:15:00 | Speaker 3:

No, just don't.

00:15:00 - 00:15:00 | Speaker 2:

Don't make me mad.

00:15:00 - 00:15:30 | Speaker 4:
