It's Mojo in the Morning Show. uh kev uh went to work to both works yesterday and uh i could tell that you were a little under the weather but you have something that you want to bring up right now on the air you want to ask

00:03:03 - 00:04:07 | Speaker 7:

a question of the listener yeah i mean i want to ask y'all a question too okay if a person isn't feeling well and we can generalize it or we can specify it by bringing it closer to home which is i the one who's speaking right now if i'm sick should i not go to work okay but what kind of sick yes well i mean it's hard to determine because i didn't go to the doctor and get like diagnosed with something specifically no i mean like symptoms well okay symptoms if i have a say like a runny nose or if my throat is hurting but who knows what that could be that could be strep throat which is contagious that could just be you know a sore throat because i i talk a lot i don't know what it is you know what i mean so i would hate to like diagnose myself and then and then not be the right thing but if my head is hurting my energy is low there's a cough here and there my throat like i'm sick you know what i mean but i can still perform my duties so i feel like i can go to work because i can do what i'm paid to do and we've talked about it before my favorite charles barkley quote the best ability is availability so if you can show up then what

00:04:07 - 00:04:11 | Speaker 6:

what's the reasoning of why you're bringing this up right now well i was i had the pistons game

00:04:11 - 00:04:46 | Speaker 7:

last night okay and typically i'm a high energy guy and even when i'm sick i'll say my energy is you know maybe higher than others yeah but if i'm sick and i have a job like that where i'm on camera and i gotta do things and i gotta bring the energy then i'm gonna save my energy for those moments so i'm sitting down i'm to myself and someone comes over and typically there's a big greeting hey what's up you know all the vibes but i'm not doing that they're like are you okay and i'm like no i'm not feeling well she's like you're not feeling well why are you here you should be at home if are you sick like on some hypochondriac types you know what i mean I'm like, I'm here.

00:04:46 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 6:

It's interesting because you described a couple of things. You described that you were not feeling good. You had some symptoms of like, you know, I don't know, cloudiness and, you know, sore throat and stuff. But then you described that you did your job and you.

00:05:00 - 00:05:09 | Speaker 4:

did it you know good enough where nobody noticed when you're on the mic yeah but they notice when you're off the mic which i've had that before where i'm like the listeners can't tell but i

00:05:09 - 00:05:14 | Speaker 2:

think that people can tell in the studio that was me all of last week i did not feel well and i think

00:05:14 - 00:05:52 | Speaker 4:

that me personally and i know covid changed a lot of people's minds on sickness i think me personally i say okay if you did if you said i'm gonna stay home sick for every time you felt like that you'd never be at work and i and to me being sick is it's coming out of one end both ends or i'm going to get somebody else sick yes and i personally i don't know because i i you could get me sick right you could uh with uh whatever you got yeah but it is i don't know i i'm a bad guy to ask because i'm a guy that i'm like what charles says i uh i try to uh try to do my job

00:05:52 - 00:06:46 | Speaker 2:

I push through unless, like, if I'm barfing, obviously I'm not going to be here. Or there have been times when I, like, I am so achy and just feel so crappy that I'm like, I don't think I'm going to make it through a show at this point. And then I would stay home. But, like, if I stayed home any time my throat hurt or I had a runny nose or something, I'd probably be here two out of the five days of the week. You know what I mean? Especially with the kids. And the same thing with the kids. Like, it's so hard to monitor. Even last week, like I had said, i think i kept telling lydia i just feel funny like i don't feel like myself i feel super nauseous but i haven't thrown up so i'm okay but then the kids were kind of feeling that way too and i'm like okay so we go to school until we throw up because it's like which teachers don't like i'm sure but it's like i'm i'm not gonna keep them home from school when they have a tummy ache and that's what it was like that would be every dang day but i think there's a difference between

00:06:46 - 00:06:58 | Speaker 1:

feeling crummy and being sick because my brother had pneumonia a couple of weeks ago and he was trying to go into the office and i was like no you cannot do that but did he think he had pneumonia

00:06:58 - 00:07:16 | Speaker 4:

or no he had pneumonia no he went to the hospital okay okay yeah because i was gonna say if he if he didn't know he had pneumonia then okay then it's kind of like this situation but if you knew he had pneumonia you should definitely not go but then again you don't know you have pneumonia until you go to the hospital phil what's up would you want to make a comment on this so within the last

00:07:16 - 00:07:29 | Speaker 3:

decade or half decade i have just sent an email that says i am taking the day off you don't need no why and that's it that's how simple it can be okay but that's not the question but does that

00:07:29 - 00:07:39 | Speaker 4:

answer the question of should you go to work i don't know where you're are you trying to justify the fact that you do that by calling us up this morning or are you people if you're taking a day

00:07:39 - 00:07:43 | Speaker 3:

off you're taking a day off whether you're sick whether you have a personal issue you're taking

00:07:43 - 00:08:10 | Speaker 4:

the day off but this isn't about that kevin's saying uh kevin's the kind of guy that likes to fight through things he's like michael jordan you know you ever hear about the flu game or whatever the when he played uh and he's the guy that wants to play and uh and be there is he wrong for coming to work and not feeling great you're just saying that you like to just take days off randomly by the way what company do you work for and uh where's your boss at right now i worked in uh

00:08:10 - 00:08:17 | Speaker 3:

i worked in russia i love it uh well you guys have a good one thanks buddy i appreciate it

00:08:17 - 00:09:34 | Speaker 4:

he just wanted to call up and say that um which by the way i i do say this to you that you know the businesses will never question your will never question your days but they also if you take a sick day and you there's there's kind of a protocol i didn't realize this but there's a protocol to sick days if you look at the the manuals and all that stuff and to them that's a personal day so you can't take that as if you say i'm taking a day just because i want that's my sick day no that's that's called a personal day and then vacation days are if you pre-plan your whatever day that you're doing so they have that in in you know hr stuff but i will i will go on record kev to say to you that yesterday i thought that you seemed worse than you were but you pulled through but you're a good guy at kind of faking through things. Like you're a good guy at kind of like not letting you're, you know, you are a guy that shows up and does your thing and, and all that stuff. I feel like we all are like, yeah, we, we show up. I feel like you got to show up. That's what, that's the thing that kind of pisses me off sometimes when I look at in the building here and nobody else is here. And I, I look over here and I go, well, where's the rest of our team? Like, you know what I mean? Like I get where the, the morning show and people kind of look to us to do this,

00:09:34 - 00:09:38 | Speaker 2:

But it doesn't feel like a team when there's no team to be seen. Right.

00:09:38 - 00:09:48 | Speaker 4:

And to me, like you see this with working with the Pistons, if the kid at the end of the bench that hands the towel to you when you come off during a timeout doesn't show up for the game.

00:09:48 - 00:09:49 | Unknown:

Yeah.

00:09:49 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 4:

Those million dollar guys got to go get their own towels. I'm just kidding. No, I know. I'm just kidding. Hold on. Who says on line one?

00:10:00 - 00:10:04 | Speaker 1:

am i picking up uh she hung up oh she hung up what did she say what it was her she said that

00:10:04 - 00:10:08 | Speaker 4:

she thinks even if you're sick you should go to work oh really that's opposite of what i thought

00:10:08 - 00:10:21 | Speaker 1:

it would be to me i would i would have thought that if somebody uh that we would get a lot of people that would say kev should not be here right now he shouldn't have been at the pistons game yesterday he should not have been on the show yesterday here's my reasoning on it though like

00:10:21 - 00:10:28 | Speaker 2:

i would rather have and not you but just because you brought this up kev out then have all of us

00:10:28 - 00:11:07 | Speaker 1:

be out yeah if he's contagious right yeah but i also uh i also will say this the show definitely does suffer without uh all of us here so there is but in i would rather it's a line that you dance yeah i would rather it be one day than five days and spread across the thing but this is where we put kevin now in the producer studio and pull lydia in here do you remember the quarantine days when you had to like when you had covid when covid first came out and you remember you had to stay in your room and your parents would like duct tape the bottoms of the floors and all that stuff uh fisher what's up it's mojo in the morning

00:11:07 - 00:11:44 | Speaker 3:

hi how are you guys doing this morning good what's going on so my kind of thing is is like so my dad like he was always in the trades as i was growing up so he kind of told me like unless you're dying you got to go to work but so i try to just always go to work unless like unless i just can't get out of bed or like try to have like the people at work send me home like if they see that i'm obviously not up to my normal standards yeah and then usually i feel like people kind of take care of each other and they like hey you don't really look all too hot you should probably probably

00:11:44 - 00:11:55 | Speaker 1:

at home and then it's not on you for calling it yeah i'm i'm guessing having a dad that worked the trades you didn't get away with staying home sick from school a lot too oh not really they

00:11:55 - 00:12:00 | Speaker 3:

usually it'd have to be the school would have to send me home yeah i could see that uh that you

00:12:00 - 00:12:06 | Speaker 1:

know dad blue collar guy he's like get your ass out there what's up caitlin hey how are you good

00:12:06 - 00:12:46 | Speaker 5:

morning good morning what's going on so i think that you know you should be able you should go to work if you have you know just a cold or whatever i am an assistant general manager and And I deal with many of my employees just calling off because they got as little as a toothache. And it's just constant every day. It's somebody calling off because they're sick or something little. I go to work when I'm sick all the time. I shouldn't, but I was just recently sick. And I still showed up to work. And I left early because I couldn't stop throwing up. But it's like I save all my sick days for my child.

00:12:47 - 00:13:01 | Speaker 1:

For when they're sick. That's a mom. By the way, you bring up a really interesting point that you've got to cover for all the people that are sick. A lot of times that you have to now change your feelings towards it, because otherwise who's going to be there if nobody else is there because they're stubbing toes.

00:13:01 - 00:13:29 | Speaker 2:

Now, I fully understand that. Right. Like I have been in that situation where I have to take on other responsibilities because of that. But that's not that person's fault. I also think we have a weird atmosphere as Americans where we prioritize work too much in a way. I think a lot of people have an unhealthy relationship with work. If you're sick, stay home and get better. It's not your fault that my company or whatever it is doesn't have enough people to cover.

00:13:29 - 00:14:06 | Speaker 1:

My sister is a manager of one, and I won't say the grocery store chain, but one of the grocery store chain's bakeries. and she says the lat with the last caller says she kind of echoes that where people will literally just call her five or ten minutes before their shift and be like yeah i'm not coming in and she's like she's never she literally has planned vacations and has never taken a vacation ever because she's got to go in and cover for people all the time and they feel like when she they know she's on vacation they can get away with even more raven what's up you're you're working a plant i i can only imagine what that's like if people have to call in sick um i actually um i

00:14:06 - 00:14:10 | Speaker 4:

I don't know if I'll get in trouble for this, but I actually work at Visaprint as a cleaner.

00:14:10 - 00:14:11 | Unknown:

Yeah.

00:14:12 - 00:14:15 | Speaker 4:

And last week, like, half our entire plant was sick.

00:14:15 - 00:14:16 | Speaker 2:

Yeah.

00:14:16 - 00:14:29 | Speaker 4:

And I was like, no, it's fine. I'll be fine. Like, I never get sick. I ended up sick, and I had to stay home for, like, the rest of the week because I was like, I'm not getting anybody else sick. If I'm cleaning all of the bathrooms and the cafeterias, like, why would I go in sick?

00:14:29 - 00:14:33 | Speaker 1:

I can only imagine. Yeah, you got it from those. Yeah, so you say stay home if you're sick.

00:14:35 - 00:14:36 | Speaker 4:

Absolutely stay home.

00:14:36 - 00:14:40 | Speaker 1:

Yeah. That's interesting. What happens on a plant? Do they shut a plant down if they don't have enough workers?

00:14:42 - 00:14:45 | Speaker 4:

They just kind of work at a reduced pace or reduced production.

00:14:46 - 00:14:51 | Speaker 1:

Yeah. Interesting. Victoria works in an ER, and this is an interesting comment. What's that, Victoria?

00:14:53 - 00:14:57 | Speaker 4:

Hi. First time, long time. Hold on.

00:14:57 - 00:15:38 | Speaker 1:

Kevin's not feeling well. Victoria on the phone. what's going on victoria hi guys so i work in an er i'm not gonna say which one but basically we're having like an unprecedented amount of people come in with flu a covid rsv norovirus walking pneumonia so i would say like i'm a fighter too like i'm gonna push through it because i need to show up for my patients but if it's lasting for more than three days i would definitely go get seen and get checked out just in case because the flu is so bad right now it's lasting for weeks and people are just really suffering so i would just like be mindful but like i get it because like i will keep i'm the worst patient when i'm taking care of my that's

00:15:38 - 00:15:52 | Speaker 4:

what they say and i get it so yeah okay so if it's lasting more than a day or two that's when you got three three days go to the doctor and go get seen this is day two and and that's the thing by the way the problem is doctors don't have appointments so we got to be able to figure out

00:15:52 - 00:16:21 | Speaker 6:

how that can change they've taken over cities before but this july they're bringing the x games league championship home to new orleans july 24th through 26 at the superdome over 100 elite athletes competing for the first ever league title plus metro booming jid subtronics and bunt performing live new orleans doesn't just host the moment new orleans is the moment get your tickets now at xgames.com.
