All right, it is Mojo in the morning show. I saw this and I was going to bring it up on the show the day before last. And then I said, oh crap, I'll hold it for another day. And then yesterday, it almost happened to me. Researchers from Johns Hopkins University released results of a study that they found the number of dog walking injuries has quadrupled in the past 20 years.

00:02:42 - 00:02:43 | Speaker 3:

Dog walking injuries?

00:02:43 - 00:04:02 | Speaker 6:

Yes. Over the last two decades, 422,000 people have gone to the emergency room after being hurt walking their dogs. The most common of injuries that have happened from these people going out with their dogs, finger fractures, traumatic brain injuries, shoulder sprains and strains, dislocated shoulders, knees that end up requiring surgery, whether it be torn meniscus or people that literally tear an ACL. And here's one of the things that they say is one of the problems, is that your dogs are a-holes. That people should actually have shorter leashes to avoid tripping on them. That's one of the number one ways that you injure yourself. Avoid places where dogs are distracted so that they all of a sudden don't get so distracted that they get crazy and start pulling you in different directions. and avoid areas that happened to me where yesterday I was walking our dogs, Henry and Louie, and almost got hit by a car, literally almost had a car swerve off and like nail me.

00:04:02 - 00:04:04 | Speaker 3:

Onto the sidewalk or were you walking in the street?

00:04:04 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 6:

No, I was walking on the side of the road. So I was just on the side of the road and it got all the way over. And I think what ended up happening was the person that was driving by me was driving way too close. Like, I'm one of those people that always veers off and, like, goes, like, way far off and around to the person that's, you know, out there, whether they're on a bike or they're walking or taking their dog for a walk. And this person obviously wasn't. And Henry almost went to the road, and I wanted to protect him from, you know, doing it and literally almost ended up getting clipped by a car that was coming by me at that particular time. 844-MOJO-LIVE, 844-665-6548. I want to know what the craziest injury was that you got from walking your dogs. What was it that ended up happening? This is why I always say, don't walk your dogs. Chelsea's actually going to call me out right now. She's going to say, you didn't take the dogs for a walk yesterday. Yes, I did. Yes, I did. I took the dogs for a walk.

00:05:00 - 00:05:15 | Speaker 2:

because here's the problem. If I say the word walk, my dogs know what that word is and they go crazy and they run to their leashes that are in a bag right by our door and they won't let me get any rest at that moment.

00:05:15 - 00:05:28 | Speaker 1:

I can't even spell walk or treat. He knows, I think he knows like the cadence of how I spell something. But Charlie, my dog, knows if I say, you know, Lucy, let's take char for a W-A-L-K. He knows exactly what I'm talking about.

00:05:28 - 00:05:43 | Speaker 2:

Can you spell better than me? What did you just say? What did you say him for? A W-A-L-K. What exactly? Sound it out. Yeah. What? Kim, what's going on? Hi, Kim. How you doing?

00:05:45 - 00:05:46 | Speaker 5:

I'm good. How are you?

00:05:46 - 00:05:51 | Speaker 2:

Good, Kim. Kim, you're very mellow right now. You're scaring me. You're not on a walk with your dog right now, are you?

00:05:52 - 00:05:56 | Speaker 5:

No, I'm not. My phone was playing through my car, and it was doing something weird.

00:05:57 - 00:06:00 | Speaker 2:

Oh, okay. No problem. Did you injure yourself taking the dog for a walk?

00:06:01 - 00:06:19 | Speaker 5:

I did. When I was younger, my dog actually got distracted by a squirrel, drug me down the street, and I refused to let go because I didn't want to lose my dog. I still have the scar on my chin, on my elbow, from the scrapes across the sidewalk from my dog being distracted.

00:06:20 - 00:06:31 | Speaker 2:

Oh, that's crazy. Honestly, that's how people dislocate their shoulders Is because your dogs take you so far And your shoulders aren't prepared For the pull Stephen, what's going on?

00:06:32 - 00:06:47 | Speaker 3:

Our great Dane Seven years ago Knocked my wife to the ground Breaking her leg She's had sick surgeries And got a nerve damage And she is disabled In her mid-40s Holy crap

00:06:47 - 00:06:50 | Speaker 1:

That's awful, man

00:06:50 - 00:06:51 | Speaker 2:

Man, that's horrible.

00:06:51 - 00:06:56 | Speaker 1:

From just taking him for a walk. One time this happened and changed her whole life.

00:06:57 - 00:07:09 | Speaker 3:

She fell to the ground. It was like snapping your fingers. I'm like, no, it's not broke. Every doctor we've ever had, this is the worst break we've ever seen in her ankle. And the nerve damage is non-curable.

00:07:09 - 00:07:16 | Speaker 2:

Oh, man. I'm sorry about that. Great Danes are bigger than humans, right? They're huge dogs.

00:07:17 - 00:07:18 | Speaker 3:

One-year-old, 120 pounds.

00:07:18 - 00:07:19 | Speaker 2:

Holy Christ.

00:07:19 - 00:07:24 | Speaker 7:

There's a guy at my vet with two of them, and he can't even stand still. The dogs pull him around.

00:07:24 - 00:07:29 | Speaker 2:

It's insane. Well, I'm sorry to hear about that, Stephen. Thank you for your call. Victoria?

00:07:30 - 00:07:31 | Speaker 6:

Hi.

00:07:31 - 00:07:33 | Speaker 2:

Walking your dog gave you a what?

00:07:35 - 00:07:50 | Speaker 4:

So I decided it would be a really brilliant idea to walk my dog while rollerblading when I was 14. Yeah. And the dog stopped. I did not. I went over top of her, and I ended up breaking my kneecap in two places.

00:07:50 - 00:07:51 | Speaker 2:

Oh, my God.

00:07:51 - 00:07:52 | Speaker 4:

Oh, ow.

00:07:52 - 00:07:55 | Speaker 2:

That hurts me just hearing you say that.

00:07:55 - 00:08:02 | Speaker 4:

And the problem is it healed wrong, so now I have, like, permanent arthritis in my knee at 30. Wow.

00:08:03 - 00:08:25 | Speaker 2:

Oh, my God, that's painful. Man, thank you for the call. I can't believe how many people, look at some of these, knee injuries here, Another person split their head open, lost all my teeth. Oh, my gosh. Went on a dog walk with my dog, lost all my teeth when I fell to the ground and my teeth shattered. Miranda?

00:08:26 - 00:08:27 | Speaker 7:

Hi.

00:08:27 - 00:08:31 | Speaker 2:

You were actually walking your dog while riding a bike. Now, that's not smart.

00:08:32 - 00:08:38 | Speaker 7:

I wanted to try it. You know, you see those people that their dog walks so nicely next to them riding their bike.

00:08:38 - 00:08:38 | Speaker 6:

Yeah.

00:08:39 - 00:08:47 | Speaker 7:

My dog just wasn't one of those people or one of those dogs. He took off after a squirrel, and my bike flipped over my head.

00:08:47 - 00:08:50 | Speaker 2:

Oh, geez. And what did you do? What kind of injury did you have?

00:08:51 - 00:09:01 | Speaker 7:

I thankfully was not super hurt, but I was like, never again, dude. I tried to get you a little bit more exercise and can't do it.

00:09:01 - 00:09:06 | Speaker 2:

Yeah. Listen, I think these animals are coming to kill us right now. That's what I think.

00:09:06 - 00:09:12 | Speaker 7:

My dog can read my mind when I even think about going for a walk. He starts pacing towards the door.

00:09:13 - 00:09:17 | Speaker 2:

So you get up, and your dog right away knows exactly what's going on.

00:09:17 - 00:09:19 | Speaker 7:

Yes, exactly. It's crazy.

00:09:20 - 00:09:23 | Speaker 2:

You need to be, like, less physically fit and be like me.

00:09:24 - 00:09:26 | Speaker 7:

I try. I try.

00:09:26 - 00:09:39 | Speaker 2:

If I get off the couch, you know what my dogs do? They go, hey, he's alive. Holy cow. There he is. Thank you for the call. I thought it was a statue. Nicole, your mom broke her neck?

00:09:39 - 00:09:47 | Speaker 6:

Yeah, the dog chased a cat and she slipped on mud and she fell and broke her neck

00:09:47 - 00:09:48 | Speaker 2:

She's not paralyzed, is she?

00:09:49 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 6:

No, thank God, but it is the first vertebrae under her skull and so she's still having issues Oh my God You just never see, like

00:10:00 - 00:10:03 | Speaker 4:

you brought up that you read that story and i was like no way do people get injured walking

00:10:03 - 00:10:12 | Speaker 5:

their dogs you don't think about all of these things megan one time said the way that she was going to die was that nobody was going to find her in her house and coralline was going to eat her

00:10:12 - 00:10:29 | Speaker 4:

absolutely yeah i do remember that i actually tried to forget about that that's disgusting yeah i know how it's going to happen i'm going to choke alone in my house and nobody's going to be able to find me and my dog's going to eat me like i just okay yeah i know i just know but But it's better to have a plan, and it's better to be prepared.

00:10:29 - 00:10:39 | Speaker 5:

Question, though. This is something that has been killing me since you brought this up on the air maybe a week and a half ago or two weeks ago. Where would she start first eating? Like, I always wonder that.

00:10:39 - 00:10:54 | Speaker 4:

Oh, okay. Come on. Oh, no, no, no. Good question. Good question. Because she's dumb. She's real dumb. So she'd probably keep my hands because she'd think I'd come back to life and pet her. You've actually thought about this, which is really disturbing to me. My thighs are pretty juicy.

00:10:54 - 00:11:18 | Speaker 2:
