Mojo in the morning. so i know that thanksgiving's not until next week but already starting to prepare for that our thanksgiving is going to be uh a interesting one because this is the first thanksgiving

00:01:54 - 00:02:08 | Speaker 3:

that our son joe is bringing his girlfriend home for the holiday oh this is big and are they staying in the mojo household or are they going to hotel room uh they are staying in the mojo household

00:02:08 - 00:02:29 | Speaker 4:

but they are staying on separate floors are they yes absolutely yeah joe so joe has to give up his bedroom and joe then has to sleep down in the basement and uh we have uh installed kp's grandparents' ring cams

00:02:29 - 00:02:34 | Speaker 3:

in the house. Did he protest big time? I noticed they were gone.

00:02:35 - 00:02:35 | Speaker 4:

What's that?

00:02:36 - 00:02:38 | Speaker 3:

I noticed they were missing.

00:02:38 - 00:03:22 | Speaker 4:

I thought you were saying that your grandma got rid of yours. I was going to say, wow, we talked about it yesterday. Grandma got rid of it already. He did not protest. No. Actually, this has been a protestless Thanksgiving for us, which has been kind of nice. And Jacob's coming home from Chicago. I'm interested in hearing about him. He's had a very, very busy time. I'm also wondering about his dating life only because I understand that he's gone on a couple of dates with some gentlemen, some college gentlemen. He doesn't share this with me. He just tells his mom and then his mom goes, don't bring this up.

00:03:22 - 00:03:26 | Speaker 3:

I was just going to say, there's a reason he doesn't tell you. He knows it's going to be a topic.

00:03:26 - 00:03:27 | Speaker 4:

I want to know what's going on.

00:03:27 - 00:03:29 | Speaker 3:

And then you just poke and ask questions like you already know the answer.

00:03:29 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 4:

Yeah. Chelsea calls me yesterday and says, all right, hey, we got to talk. Who did you invite to Thanksgiving dinner at the house? And I said I haven't invited anybody. I was going to try to keep it to just the family because I feel like sometimes we do invite others. And then when we do invite others, then the focus comes off of us trying to spend time together. And it becomes entertaining others and all the rest of that stuff. And then this might be the last Thanksgiving in our house. So God willing, we sell our house, you know? So I wanted to kind of keep it like that. I did get a full turkey with everything, like the legs and everything on there, because I wanted to, I wanted to take a picture of like the Hallmark holiday. Yeah. So I want to have everything. So in Chelsea and those guys hate turkey, so they're going to get mad at me because it's a bigger turkey. So long story short, the reason why this becomes such an issue is my mom gave us the tradition in our house of inviting complete strangers to our Thanksgiving dinner. And when I mean complete strangers, I'm talking about there were times where we would sit at Thanksgiving dinner and the people next to us, I would have to like tell them what my name was and tell them, you know, how old I was and everything like that. Like they had no idea who I was, what I, are you a kid? Yeah, I'm, I'm, I'm Tommy. I'm on, you know, one of those things. My mom invited.

00:05:00 - 00:06:07 | Speaker 3:

uh our mail man one time our garbage man one time um one time she met a a random person that uh she met like that morning when she was going to jewel osco grocery store which is where i grew up in chicago and she was picking up last minute things and it was a person that had nowhere to go and she saw that they were buying like like pizza frozen pizza tombstone frozen pizza and a couple other things and she says she says oh is that for you know uh you know later tomorrow this weekend or whatever and they're like no this is what i'm having tonight and she's like you're coming to my house it was crazy so this tradition has come to us where i've tried to invite the random people sometimes at the radio station or friends that have i met through the years here in detroit the funniest was i was on the phone with my nieces uh audrey and madeline and my sister tracy has definitely become my mom in so many different ways. Last year at Thanksgiving, Madeline and Audrey were sitting at the Thanksgiving dinner table and the doorbell rang, and they go to answer the door, and they're like, that's the Starbucks barista.

00:06:07 - 00:06:08 | Speaker 2:

Oh, my gosh.

00:06:09 - 00:06:46 | Speaker 3:

My sister invited the woman who is at Starbucks every day that they see every single day, and what she finds out, and this is something that my mom used to do, is she finds out a little bit about some people, And then you find out, you know, that they have no family or they're maybe estranged from family. And so she would invite those people in her thing that she used to always say. She was very Catholic. She was like, Jesus would have done this. This was this is very Jesus. Jesus would have been. And then she would go to the whole thing of telling us the stories in the Bible about, you know, how Jesus was friends with.

00:06:46 - 00:06:50 | Speaker 2:

There was a seat for everybody at the table. Everybody at the table. Everybody there was a seat for.

00:06:50 - 00:06:54 | Speaker 3:

Did you know when the baby Jesus was there? It was all people that weren't family and friends.

00:06:56 - 00:06:59 | Speaker 2:

So are you thinking that you need to invite somebody random?

00:06:59 - 00:07:08 | Speaker 3:

No, I want to keep it no random. Honestly, no offense to any of the people that I meet over the course of the next few days. I'm not going to ask you any questions about your life.

00:07:10 - 00:07:13 | Speaker 4:

You don't want to find out somebody's lonely. I'll be so tempted.

00:07:13 - 00:07:53 | Speaker 2:

It does kill me, though, when I find out. Like, I did this for Easter. I have a teacher friend of mine who I met through doing our March's Reading Month when we go, you know, to all of the local schools and read. Oh, yeah. And she did not have a place to eat Easter dinner. We do Easter brunch in our house. And I was like, you are not sitting at home alone. And so I had her come and meet my family. She's such a nice lady. I know. Yes, Miss Kelly. But, like, it breaks my heart when I hear that people don't have a place to go for, like, Thanksgiving or just any holiday in general. So I love that tradition. But I also understand that you just want to keep it to your family, especially if it's the last Thanksgiving. Fingers crossed you're going to have in your house.

00:07:53 - 00:07:54 | Speaker 3:

Hi, Doreen. What's going on? It's Mojo in the morning.

00:07:55 - 00:08:11 | Speaker 1:

Good morning, guys. Morning. Well, Mojo, since you were talking about Thanksgiving, my older three kids will be with their dad. So it's going to be myself, my youngest, and son and daughter. So would you like to invite us?

00:08:12 - 00:08:22 | Speaker 4:

Well, it sounds like you're surrounded by family. It sounds lovely. You got all your children with you. I'm my family. Hold on a second. God, are you still there?

00:08:22 - 00:08:25 | Speaker 3:

We must have a bad connection, Doreen.

00:08:27 - 00:08:32 | Speaker 2:

I love you guys. Oh, we love you too, Doreen. Remember when you had my family? Your sister had my family.

00:08:33 - 00:08:33 | Speaker 3:

That was Tracy.

00:08:33 - 00:08:51 | Speaker 2:

That was Tracy because my sister was going to school in Chicago. She was going to Columbia College at the time, and we didn't want her to be alone. So we were going to travel to Chicago and have Thanksgiving at, like, find a restaurant that was open or something. And you and Tracy were like, no way. You're coming over. I thought that was so nice. I still remember that. Yeah, it was okay. It was.

00:08:53 - 00:09:19 | Speaker 3:

Can I tell you something? that there have been some really fun ones that we've had at our house that the person who is, like, the random person coming over turns out to be, like, the best person ever because, A, I don't know how to carve a turkey. I'm, like, the worst at it. So usually it's like, oh, my God, you know how to carve a turkey? You're amazing. Or they help out more. They clean up after everything. It's like we try to say, no, no, you're a guest here. It's true.

00:09:19 - 00:09:30 | Speaker 4:

And unless they're the new hire, producer Ellen, who you invited over because she had no family. She didn't clean up after She threw up after And by the way

00:09:30 - 00:09:33 | Speaker 2:

I feel like I need to defend her because she's not here

00:09:33 - 00:09:34 | Speaker 4:

There's no defense for that

00:09:34 - 00:09:51 | Speaker 3:

It's the best And that might actually have been the last time That we've ever invited anybody over Oh my god This year I'm subbing turkey for alcohol So I can tolerate my family Happy Thanksgiving from Mojo in the Morning
