This is not the first time we've been dealing with drifting wildfire smoke coming in from Canada and other parts of the U.S. It's a repeat of the scenario that happened both in 2023 and last year, 2025. And the concern is the fine particulate matter in the smoke can get deep into your lungs and even into your bloodstream. And long-term exposure to these particles can greatly increase your risk to certain diseases, including COPD and lung cancer. Joining me now to discuss these long-term risks is Dr. Devang Doshi. In fact, I spoke to Dr. Doshi in 2023 when we first started dealing with this. Dr. Doshi is an allergist, immunologist, and pediatric pulmonologist from Corwell Health. you alluded to a lot of these patients that are continuously exposed to this even episodically like we've been seeing for summers are going to be at increased risk of acceleration of lung disease COPD asthma even risks of lung cancer and like you mentioned these particulate matters do enter the bloodstream and put patients at very high risk of heart disease high blood pressure heart attacks and even neurological impacts of increasing risk of strokes and dementia so they

have to really be careful now we talk about these things copd asthma stroke dementia these are big big issues and we think of them as being down the line i mean is this a concern for for instance let's say children you're eight years old and you're thinking of dementia you know 50 60 years

down the line all right but no kids can be thinking of dementia right now but uh cody you're outdoors and you just heard that it could cause issues what are your thoughts what do you do what do

do that you have to be outdoors i'm a painter so i'm painting the spring lake library and uh close to grand haven and i just got sent off the job because of the smoke exposure

So he took off yesterday, only to go home and probably have one of the entire cylinders of Zins. so so he didn't he didn't want to he didn't want to you know be outside but instead was at home with his uh spearmint and zenz one's voluntary i guess what's up greg well just working on cell

towers uh hvac units for at&t and verizon um out in this all day long every day um company i work for they just said take it easy but we take it easy we get behind so can't do it hey does this
