Daniel, this tournament has been magical so far. There's so much to love, and I can hardly believe the drama that the group stage brought us. And now it's time for us to talk about the teams that are left as the field is whittled down to one World Cup champion on July 19th.

uh it's mojo in the morning show i got a big announcement to uh to tell everybody and i want everybody to know this firsthand you can pat me on the back because i kept a secret i i cannot believe that i kept a secret for this long of a period of time but i'm very proud to announce that joseph my son my oldest son joe and his girlfriend are getting married he made the announcement just moments ago on his radio show his morning radio show the joe show on 93.3 flz but joe and now his fiancee alissa are engaged isn't that not i know it's crazy i actually was thinking about this this morning as i was coming in thinking okay i gotta make sure i don't ever announce this thing until i see that they posted it which they did yeah they post it and then i thought i should play this piece of audio i don't know if anybody remembers

00:03:25 - 00:03:41 | Speaker 1:

this hi this is joey and you're listening to my dan mojo it's mojo in the morning please don't turn off the station because i need to eat tonight channel 955 how wild is that not me zooming in on

00:03:41 - 00:03:47 | Speaker 7:

the instagram to see her ring yes i see she's crying so i want to know the whole story and when

00:03:47 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 8:

did you know you can see it uh if you go to uh his uh his is uh not what is it uh not joe carballo and then also i think on the live with joe show yeah you do live with joe show too whatever it's all tagged by all of them so um so it happened on thursday night uh so i've known for a while i came into the show on friday and when i came in friday morning remember i was doing the show down in florida yes so the whole reason of staying down there was joe wanted to he did want to propose and wanted us to be able to be there to be able to be part of of everything love that and um so on friday i came into the show thinking oh god this is gonna be great we're gonna talk about this on the air and i kept going back and forth our studios when i'm down there are right across the hall from each other so i'd keep walking in the studio going did he talk about it jed and he's like no i'm not talking about it i'm going back home what the hell's going on what's he waiting for because those guys knew because he reached out and told jed and ashley and terry right after it happened and then it kept going back and forth and finally i just busted in there and i go during a commercial break i go what's going on when are you going to talk about this

00:05:00 - 00:05:32 | Speaker 1:

So he and Alyssa decided that they wanted to make sure that they told Alyssa's grandma, who did not know, in person. They were having breakfast with her on Sunday morning, so they wanted Alyssa's grandma to know in person and not find out the way everybody finds out nowadays, which is social media, which I thought that was awesome. That's beautiful. So then I had to wait on Friday, and then I had to go Saturday to wait for her to find out. And then I finally was able to tell my family, and he reached out to his aunts and his uncles to tell them, too.

00:05:33 - 00:05:42 | Speaker 2:

Now, before you say how he did it, did you know that he was going to be proposing on Thursday night? So did you have to keep that secret as well? Oh, yeah. Two secrets?

00:05:43 - 00:06:31 | Speaker 1:

So there's so much to this that I've got to talk about. Number one, Joe bought the ring way back. And you guys might even remember I talked about how Joe asked me, you know, hey, what are my thoughts about this? last june it was where he said hey i think i want to get engaged and he asked me for my advice and i talked about that on the air yeah and everybody then thought they got engaged uh or we're gonna get engaged really soon and i was giving away information well he went out and bought the ring just after he and i had this conversation he's had the ring for almost eight months which i got to ask our listeners is there anybody listening that has ever uh bought the ring and had it for that long of a time or longer because i've never i kept waiting for it to happen after a while i'm

00:06:31 - 00:06:47 | Speaker 2:

thinking what the hell is it ever gonna happen i would be so mad if i had the ring or no oh yeah she knew she picked it out that would yeah that's what would drive me wild is i would be so ocd about having my nails done making sure my hair looked okay yeah wondering if tonight is the night well

00:06:47 - 00:06:58 | Speaker 3:

that's the other thing they have had in the past eight months like big moments together whether it was like nice dinners or trips or birthdays or holidays and every time i'd be like ah and then

00:06:58 - 00:09:31 | Speaker 1:

when it didn't happen i would get pissed if i was her the funny thing is chelsea actually said to me she goes did you notice that alissa always would have her nails done well yeah which i i've never noticed that stuff i'm a guy i don't notice that stuff but she never knew when it was going to happen she never knew it was going to happen and the weirdest part of how he did it yeah that's That's what I'm interested in. Was he was planning on doing it when she came back home from a work trip. So she was away for work, and he was picking her up at the airport. Her flight wasn't landing until like 7.30 at night, and he wanted to take her to the restaurant, which was the first place, I think, that they went to. And then right behind that restaurant, a place in Tampa, if you've ever been, called Salchak, there's this really cool beach area there and a pier that you go out on. And that was where he was going to propose to her. well the dummy salt check doesn't take reservations and the place had a three hour wait damn so they pull up at salt check and he realizes this ain't happening like we're gonna have to just do the proposal and not do the dinner because there's no way she's gonna want to wait after flying home on a work trip like if i flew home on a work trip and chelsea's like hey let's go to dinner i'd be like i want to go home and go to my couch you know they wouldn't even take a reservation for a proposal no they wouldn't do it no i which by the way you know i i said to him i'm like what we should have done is gotten a table for him and then let them come and get the table. This is where it gets even worse. Then he goes to the pier to go just do the walk on the pier because this was the place that they lived right by there. So they used to go there, and that was their nightly walks that they would do together, and they would walk down the pier and all this stuff. He goes to go to walk on the pier. The pier is closed that night for some kind of construction thing. Omens are here. No. Two for two. What's going on? What is happening? So he proposed to her just outside the beach area there. They proposed, which, by the way, the picture is up on his site and stuff, so you can see that and go take a look at it. But he proposed to her that night, and then they went and got Raising Cane's. Yay! There you go. And it was like perfect. We went to dinner. Chelsea and I took Joe and Alyssa to dinner. We went to Ocean Prime on Friday night. And they were just, like, beaming. It was really cool. It's cool to see your kid. Congratulations to all of you guys. This is your first son taking his step, man. It's wild. Yeah, it's really, really wild. And we don't have a daughter, too, so that's another one, too, is, like, you know, now there's a girl in the house. I've got to, like, be careful if she, you know, if I'm walking around the house in my box room.

00:09:31 - 00:09:34 | Speaker 2:

Now they can sleep in the same bedroom at Thanksgiving.

00:09:36 - 00:10:37 | Speaker 1:

You know what, Shannon? That is interesting. Although we did break the rules on that one. I think they did end up sleeping together in the same bedroom. But, yeah, so it was a cool moment. Can we call Joe? Is that okay? We have to. Will you call Lydia and just see if he'll be there? What's going on, Ashley? How you doing? Hi, good morning. I'm good. How are you guys? Fantastic. What's going on? So my husband... and got the engagement ring at the jewelry store that I was a manager at. Yeah. So I knew that he had the ring for at least eight months. Why would he find it where you worked? He got a discount. Discount. Well, why did he wait that long? I was like, put it under a pseudonym, like put it under something else. But I picked out the ring and the diamond, And so I knew when it got purchased, I was like, oh, good job, guys. He didn't write it very well. They put it under his first name, but a different last name.

00:10:37 - 00:10:41 | Speaker 2:

And every time that you guys would do anything, you probably assumed you were getting proposed to him.

00:10:41 - 00:10:41 | Speaker 1:

Every time.

00:10:42 - 00:10:46 | Speaker 2:

Oh, that's funny. Hold on. Joe's on the phone right now. Welcome to Newly Engaged.

00:10:46 - 00:10:47 | Speaker 1:

Yes, Joe.

00:10:49 - 00:11:44 | Speaker 2:

Congratulations. Are you there, Joe? Yes. Hi. Congratulations. thank you wow so is that a horn yes sir that was a we got special sound effects just for you man big budget this is what happens when you take the step big budget on this show joe we're we're discussing uh your proposal which by the way i had to keep quiet for such a long period of time because this kid's like and then he's like they says to me over the weekend he's It's like, I'm thinking about announcing it on Tuesday. I'm going to tease it for a little bit, a couple of days. I'm like, get your ass out in the air and tell everybody about this thing. What was the reaction of the listeners to find out that you finally proposed after having this ring burning a hole in your pocket for seven months or eight months?

00:11:45 - 00:12:15 | Speaker 3:

Let's see. Let's see what the response is real quick. Hey, who's this? Jaheim. Hey, Jaheim, are you excited? I'm engaged. yes oh my god first time caller bro congratulations here i'm gonna put you back on hold and i want to spend more time with you but my my dad he'll get mad if i uh take another call like irish irish are you excited yes congratulations joe

00:12:15 - 00:12:27 | Speaker 1:

i'm so excited for you guys i i can't believe it i remember when my fiancee proposed and i I was ecstatic, but he didn't have to wait. He did it in front of my family.

00:12:28 - 00:12:34 | Speaker 3:

Oh, look at that. Well, he one-upped me. All right, Irish. I love you. I love you. What do you want, Dad?

00:12:35 - 00:13:02 | Speaker 2:

No, by the way, can I go back to Irish for a second? Getting, proposing in front of the family, that's like a pressure moment because you got to be good doing it, but also that's kind of like, I don't know, I felt like that was like something Sopranos-ish or something. You know what I mean? Like, you're now a part of the family type thing. Hey, Joe, what did you say? Yeah, what exactly did you say? I don't think I even asked you that.

00:13:03 - 00:13:10 | Speaker 3:

So I kind of blacked out truthfully, but Alyssa told the full story. What did she say? She said, so I-

00:13:10 - 00:13:12 | Speaker 2:

You guys are reminiscing on, you know, life together.

00:13:13 - 00:13:49 | Speaker 3:

I took her on a walk where we used to live, and we spent a lot of time on this, like, walk on this specific doc and we were kind of like talking about oh remember when we had this happen and that happened and I said to her I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you and she was like oh my god me too um and I was like you know there's a lot of steps that involve that and I want to take the first step right now and then um I I got down on one knee and then I cried uh i'm like my dad uh i cried a lot i cried the whole time is it bad i'm genuinely shocked you

00:13:49 - 00:14:01 | Speaker 1:

didn't mic yourself so you could have this audio for your show i mean yeah a little bit i thought you were going to have us around a little bit seeing it's bad too now now i can't

00:14:01 - 00:14:05 | Speaker 3:

say like when it happens to jad and ashley and carrie i can't say well what the heck why didn't

00:14:05 - 00:14:19 | Speaker 2:

you mic yourself hey show first joe joe is your father i want to ask you a question and i think this is is pretty important what what is it about Alyssa tell me tell me what what it with Alyssa

00:14:19 - 00:15:00 | Speaker 3:

um she's my best friend and uh like it so the reason why I I did it on because I know it was like a Thursday it was a random day but you know I've had the ring for a really long time and I I wanted to do it in two weeks, and I dropped her off. She went out of town for a business trip, and the moment that happened, I was, like, overcome with, like, emotions of, like, one, she's my best friend. Two, in my opinion, no one has, like, a work ethic like her. She has the biggest heart, in my opinion. Like, she really does. She completely looks out for me.

00:15:00 - 00:15:39 | Speaker 5:

me and her brothers and her mom and uh she loves you and mom and jacob and luke she's like really really good with jacob and luke which that's like super super important to me and um i don't know she's just like she's the best thing that's ever happened to me like i i don't like i feel like a different person when i'm around her like i uh like i i don't know i it's hard to like it's Truthfully, it's kind of hard to put into words, but she's the best. Like, I feel like, I don't know, I can't think of words.

00:15:40 - 00:15:43 | Speaker 2:

Joey, you've got parents that have been married for 30-plus years.

00:15:44 - 00:15:45 | Speaker 3:

30 years. Yeah.

00:15:46 - 00:15:54 | Speaker 2:

What do you hope to take from your mom and dad's marriage and bring into yours? Great question, Shannon. Thanks, Ash.

00:15:56 - 00:16:37 | Speaker 5:

The sex. I hear that they're sexist. No, I would say their commitment to each other, because I know that it hasn't always been easy for them, and there were certain times where maybe they were in the process of getting a divorce, but they, through it all, were really, really, really, really great parents to my brothers and I. And, you know, I did kind of fear once Luke graduated that they would get a divorce. um but to see how close they are now and their commitment towards each other i think that like their willingness to fight through and the the good and the bad well amongst other things i'm

00:16:37 - 00:17:12 | Speaker 3:

gonna tell you it ain't easy if you think that this is going to be glamorous and loving uh it's not um there are some of the highest moments you'll ever have in your life and some of the lowest moments you'll ever feel in your life but i say to you son uh this is an emotional moment for for your mom and i um because it really is adding but also feeling like you're subtracting because you're adding somebody to the family but you feel like you're the dynamic is changing you're changing yeah and i and i pray that you guys live together as long as you want and want to as long

00:17:12 - 00:17:25 | Speaker 2:

as you live and i love you so much i love you and enjoy your enjoy the engagement joe don't let People would pressure you into picking a date or doing it a certain way or just enjoy this. Oh, my God. Everyone's Shannon.

00:17:25 - 00:17:30 | Speaker 5:

Why is this the next day? I know. People were like, hey, what day is the wedding? I'm like, I don't know.

00:17:30 - 00:17:37 | Speaker 2:

Just enjoy being engaged and not having to worry about any of that. Think about this. You're a feel sick. It's that question. And are you going to have babies right away?

00:17:38 - 00:17:40 | Speaker 5:

She gets a twofer. I want babies.

00:17:40 - 00:17:41 | Speaker 4:

But hey, real quick.

00:17:42 - 00:17:56 | Speaker 5:

Dad, dad, dad, dad, dad, dad, dad. I hate that you say subtraction. I hate you say it because I can't say it. But it's not. it's it's a plus i'm like you know she's excited to be a carballo and i i am excited for her to be

00:17:56 - 00:19:14 | Speaker 3:

one too i don't think you meant it that way by the way no no what i get what you mean i mean it like in the fact that you know your grandma and papa had your mom for so long and yet you know we don't see them every single moment that we can because we shouldn't because this is your she is your new you know uh priority in life man yeah so uh and i and i will say this alissa uh you know joe's mom and i love you take care of him so we love him and if he and you do you'll get the greatest love in the world because he isn't he's a lover so i love you kid congrats i love you more proud of you thank you joe and proud of alissa thanks for golfing with me the next day that was we went out we golf we went golfing and we had this guy marty who's a rich uh give us these amazing marty gave us these he brought cigars i told him that joe just got proposed to he brought 50 a piece cigars and he gave joe and i each a cigar and he had a cigar and we all smoked together and I got so sick afterwards. I felt like I did edibles. It was unbelievable. It was crazy. I love you. I love you more. I'm proud of you, Kev.

00:19:14 - 00:19:15 | Speaker 2:

Tell Alyssa we said congratulations, too.

00:19:15 - 00:19:16 | Speaker 3:
