Download the Modo Casino app today. Mojo on the morning show. So we announced this morning at 6 o'clock when we first signed on, and if you want to go back and listen to it, you can hear the welcome to him, that Shannon and Megan and myself and Mike and Lydia and KP and Misfit Steve, who does our audio, want to welcome another member to the team that will help us with the heavy lifting. Welcome Kev or Kevin to the team. You can actually go see I was trying to see when I went to the Luke's thing I was trying to go It says meet Kevin What a nice picture too that KP Great picture of you

00:02:29 - 00:02:55 | Speaker 2:

What's that from? So since I do the in-game arena hosting for the Detroit Pistons When they have their media day Where the entire team comes out All the coaches come out They do their introductions, their welcome videos Everything that you see on the Jumbotron during the game Everyone on the entertainment team We also have a media day So that's one of our official NBA and Game Arena host introduction photos. How do I sneak into that so I can get a photo like that? I'll show you off air.

00:02:56 - 00:03:15 | Speaker 3:

Guys, what's that, Mike? I've never had a head shot. I would love to go in and just get one fancy picture. We are due. So this is the story. Tony Travato is getting with our marketing team, and we are getting some new pictures because we have not had team photos in a long time.

00:03:15 - 00:03:17 | Speaker 7:

I think for almost 10 years.

00:03:18 - 00:03:53 | Speaker 3:

Well, the other thing, too, is that the last photos that we've used, I think we're from a bit of us doing yearbook photos when we had the yearbook company do the things. So we're getting new photos. But that's a very nice photo of you. You're an extremely charming, good-looking man. Run up the likes. Yes, you can go check that thing out. The other thing that I wanted to bring up with Kevin that's interesting, Kev, is he started today on the air with us, but listen to what he's got going on tonight, or is it later this afternoon you'll find out?

00:03:54 - 00:04:07 | Speaker 2:

Oh, my gosh. Tonight, at around 5 p.m., I have a number to call. And when I call that number, I have to give a group number. And after I give that group number, I find out if I have jury duty.

00:04:07 - 00:04:28 | Speaker 1:

You're so lucky. Why? He's starting a new job. What if he has to just take a couple weeks off? I love jury duty, and I never get called in, and I want to do it so bad. I even got grand jury one time, and I got dismissed. I want to do it so bad. I'm so jealous of you. That's, like, the best gossip session there ever is to sit on is jury duty.

00:04:29 - 00:04:34 | Speaker 3:

But like Shannon just said, Megan, he's starting a new job. What about the show?

00:04:35 - 00:04:40 | Speaker 1:

What? It's jury duty. She's like, F them kids. Yeah, she's like, that's the show.

00:04:41 - 00:04:54 | Speaker 3:

What about being on the air and stuff? How awkward that would be? Has anybody ever had that happen to them? Have they ever started a new job and then all of a sudden either got sick the next day? Or got pregnant. Or got pregnant.

00:04:54 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 1:

Because that's happened to a lot of my friends, and then they have to keep it a secret for as long as they can because they don't want to get.

00:05:00 - 00:05:21 | Speaker 3:

fired or replaced, which is illegal, by the way, but it happens all the time. And listen, our job is very cool. But, Kev, you're going to learn real quickly here, the hours suck. So the fact that you could possibly get two weeks of sleeping in, oh, man, eat that up. Yeah, but then your day doesn't end until 4.30. Right. Well, straight off. I like my day ending at 1 p.m. And what if the case sucks?

00:05:22 - 00:05:31 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, what if it's like a white-collar crime stupid case? Dude, my stepmom had jury duty for like six or eight weeks or something.

00:05:31 - 00:05:32 | Speaker 4:

That is the dream.

00:05:32 - 00:05:51 | Speaker 2:

Megan, listen, the only thing that I've been watching lately is Law & Order, Criminal Minds, movies like Runaway Jury, and I'm a speak it into existence type of person. So I've told my girlfriend, Sherelle, for the longest, I want jury duty. But it's one of those, it's just in. It's one of those things, be careful what you wish for.

00:05:51 - 00:06:10 | Speaker 1:

You know what you got to do? You got to go crazy there. You can't show up to jury duty. Like, if they do say that you have jury duty and you have to go tomorrow, and God, that would suck if all of a sudden you had to go in tomorrow on your day number two. But what you do is you got to dress like you're nuts. Like, I don't know how you do that, but nutty people, tell them how to dress.

00:06:10 - 00:06:31 | Speaker 3:

You have to be so careful because the one time that I had jury duty and they were doing the jury selection, this one guy, it was so obvious that he was trying to get out of jury duty. and the judge said we're not selecting you for the jury but because i know what you're trying to do here you are going to sit in this courtroom for the entire duration of the case oh my god

00:06:31 - 00:06:37 | Speaker 1:

um heather what's going on it's mojo in the morning hey so just listening to this whole

00:06:37 - 00:07:08 | Speaker 5:

jury duty thing um one time i at my department at work there's five of us and two of us were at a Two of them were at a conference in Florida. One of our girls went into early labor and was out delivering her baby, and then my boss had emergency surgery to remove her gallbladder. So I had to call and beg and plead, please don't make me go to jury duty. There's nobody to run my department. Luckily, they did let me off, and I ran a whole department by myself for a week. So that was interesting.

00:07:09 - 00:07:21 | Speaker 1:

Wow, that's wild, the plea. And I bet you nowadays with people all short-staffed, I wonder if that is something that's pretty common with those guys. Plus, aren't most of these cases done virtually anyway?

00:07:22 - 00:07:38 | Speaker 5:

I mean, this was probably five or six years ago. And we're kind of in a smaller town area. So, I mean, I've been called probably five or six times and never actually had to serve. They always just let me, you know, it's shuttled out of court or whatever they say.

00:07:38 - 00:07:49 | Speaker 1:

Yeah. What's going on, Mallory? It's Mojo in the Morning Show. Say hello, Mallory, to Kev, a new member of the Mojo in the Morning Show. Starting today, might have jury duty tomorrow.

00:07:51 - 00:08:42 | Speaker 4:

Good morning, Kev. I am so jealous. I'm begging on this. I love jury duty. And the town I live in is very small. And there's only one hospital, and I work at that hospital. So I always get taken off because it's usually like a conflict of interest. because it's a medical case five years ago yeah like anything usually because if they get brought in afterwards by the police or whatever like we're gonna do like blood alcohol levels and we typically know and um about five years ago I got picked and I was like you know they're gonna dismiss me it's gonna be awful but I was on vacation when it happened and I was so excited So I actually got to stay on one time only because I was on vacation when the event happened and I wasn't working.

00:08:42 - 00:08:46 | Speaker 1:

You used your vacation time for a jury duty? What did they pay you for jury duty?

00:08:47 - 00:08:54 | Speaker 4:

I was, no, no, no. I was on vacation when the event happened, so I did not have any knowledge because I wasn't working.

00:08:54 - 00:08:55 | Speaker 1:

Okay, now I get it.

00:08:55 - 00:09:01 | Speaker 4:

So I didn't get dismissed as I usually would have, and it was the best experience ever because the guy was totally crazy.

00:09:01 - 00:09:03 | Speaker 1:

What did they pay you for jury duty?

00:09:04 - 00:09:14 | Speaker 4:

Oh, they only paid me $15 for the day, but, you know, I still got paid by work, and it didn't even matter. I was just happy to be there because for once I didn't get dismissed.

00:09:14 - 00:09:18 | Speaker 1:

And as soon as the guy walked into the courtroom, did you already say guilty?

00:09:19 - 00:09:46 | Speaker 4:

As soon as he started speaking, everybody knew, and you just kind of looked at each other. He had jumped into the river to avoid the cops because he didn't want to be arrested, And then he was hiding so well, they thought he had drowned. So they brought out, like, the lifeboats and everything to search for him. Well, it turns out he was just hiding. And then he ended up representing himself, thinking that he could explain his way out of it. So it was very, very comical.

00:09:47 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 1:

Wow. What's going on, Jenna? Hi. Hi. Hey, we're talking about Kev just started with us, Kevin. And he's got jury duty tomorrow. You had something interesting happen to you.

00:10:00 - 00:10:01 | Speaker 8:

When you got a brand new job?

00:10:02 - 00:10:30 | Speaker 4:

Yes. I found out that I was pregnant two days later. Oh, my God. What'd you do? How long to keep it a secret? I kept it quiet because it was like a new career type thing. And I had no experience with this job or, like, doing this job before. So they kind of, like, took a chance on me. And so, like, I kept it quiet all through training. And Ben just ended up telling him after I was almost five months pregnant. And I'm like, yeah, I'm going to go on maternity leave.

00:10:31 - 00:10:33 | Speaker 8:

Oh, my God.

00:10:33 - 00:10:47 | Speaker 4:

They were really, luckily, they were really receptive of it and so understanding. But the ironic thing is I left three years later because I got pregnant again and I was going to be stay at home. So that career didn't last long.

00:10:48 - 00:11:01 | Speaker 8:

Yeah. That, by the way, would be obviously, you know, a nightmare for an employer. But it's a wonderful thing, obviously, for you. And that's when you judge whether or not you want to even continue to work at a place like that. Tiffany, what's happening?

00:11:02 - 00:11:19 | Speaker 1:

Good morning. I was summoned a few years ago, and I completely forgot and didn't go. And so then, of course, you know, government stuff. I'm freaking out thinking, like, I'm going to have a warrant for my arrest. They're going to come hunt me down and find me. Nope, I've gotten pulled over since then, and nobody has ever said a word. So it doesn't matter if you don't go.

00:11:20 - 00:11:27 | Speaker 8:

Wow, yeah. Well, you know what? You're luckier than Kevin is. Are you the type of person who would risk something like that, Kevin? I was starting a new job.

00:11:27 - 00:11:34 | Speaker 9:

Yeah, and I had a whole group chat yesterday, and people are like, hey, just don't go. I've done it. I got a mail carrier friend. He's like, just how will they know that you actually received the letter?

00:11:35 - 00:11:36 | Speaker 8:

Well, I don't know.

00:11:37 - 00:11:39 | Speaker 7:

When you call tonight, do you have to punch in a specific number?

00:11:39 - 00:11:48 | Speaker 9:

Yeah, but before then, there's a jury duty questionnaire that you have to fill out once you actually receive it. And you already filled it out, right? Yeah, you go online.

00:11:48 - 00:11:51 | Speaker 8:

Okay, then they know. So you're screwed. So you got to do it.

00:11:52 - 00:11:58 | Speaker 9:

But, I mean, I'm on chat GPT right now, figuring out ways to kind of send a letter to get out of it. And this excuse is pretty legit.

00:11:58 - 00:12:01 | Speaker 8:

Yeah, they'll give you advice. Ellen, what's up? It's Mojo in the Morning.

00:12:02 - 00:12:27 | Speaker 3:

Hey, I was calling just because I heard the comment about women finding out they're pregnant when they start a new job. Yeah. And I had started a brand new job, and I found out I was pregnant. And I worked at a chiropractor's office, and I had to tell them that I was pregnant because they wanted to take x-rays on me. And my boss, who was the doctor, actually told me that he had thought about firing me because of it.

00:12:27 - 00:12:30 | Speaker 4:

That is so illegal. Yep, sure is.

00:12:30 - 00:12:39 | Speaker 3:

Yeah. Yeah, but, I mean, I worked there for three years, and then I ended up leaving because I had another kid, and they didn't treat me the same afterwards, so I ended up leaving after that.

00:12:40 - 00:12:41 | Speaker 8:

Are you in a better place now? Are you in a better job?

00:12:44 - 00:12:49 | Speaker 3:

Not really. It just works better for my kids, but in the next two months here, I'll be a stay-at-home mom.

00:12:49 - 00:13:03 | Speaker 8:

Good for you. Good. Denny has advice on how you can get out of jury duty. We're trying to give Kevin some advice. He's a new member of the Mojo in the Morning Show. Starting today, jury duty tomorrow. Uh-oh, what just happened? Did you just drop something?

00:13:04 - 00:13:05 | Speaker 2:

No, I'm working.

00:13:05 - 00:13:08 | Speaker 9:

Oh, jeez. Come on, Denny. Give me the tools of success, my man.

00:13:10 - 00:13:30 | Speaker 2:

My friend, he came in there and he smoked weed before he got in there, so he reached so bad of weed. And the judge asked him, have you been smoking weed? Have someone been smoking weed? He said, he raised his hand and said, yeah, it was me. I had to take it for a medical reason. And he said, all right, he's out.

00:13:31 - 00:13:39 | Speaker 8:

Wow. So he kicked him off. That's all it takes. He didn't think. If that's the case, though, they probably don't get very many people to do that.

00:13:42 - 00:13:52 | Speaker 2:

No, he just went in there and just hair all just, you know, he had an afro. I'll just, you know, I'll just bevel it all up. And he's like, he just went in there and just said, hey. Did his thing.

00:13:53 - 00:13:56 | Speaker 8:

Yeah, they wanted him of clear mind every single morning.

00:13:57 - 00:14:12 | Speaker 7:
