To all of our friends in Detroit, or actually anywhere, you can probably watch it. I'm sure they stream on clickondetroit.com. There is a story that is going to be on Local 4 tonight by a good friend of ours, Karen Drew. She's doing a story about people with pet alligators. And here, I'll play you the promo because this is a really good promo. She's back. Karen Drew Channel 4.

00:01:59 - 00:02:01 | Speaker 7:

Asking questions.

00:02:01 - 00:02:03 | Speaker 8:

Do you sell a lot of them?

00:02:03 - 00:02:13 | Speaker 7:

What's going on? This is kind of like a zoo area right here. This isn't a zoo. It may be legal for a pet store to sell alligators in your city, but if you take one home, could you get in trouble?

00:02:13 - 00:02:15 | Speaker 5:

You just told me to leave a new lady.

00:02:15 - 00:02:19 | Speaker 7:

The Investigation, Thursday at 545 on 4. Oh, wow.

00:02:19 - 00:02:27 | Speaker 6:

I expected a pun. Karen taking a bite out of crime. Karen, who writes the promos, and why do they not pun it at the end?

00:02:27 - 00:02:28 | Speaker 9:

No, I'm so happy you didn't.

00:02:29 - 00:02:30 | Speaker 6:

Hi, Karen.

00:02:31 - 00:02:36 | Speaker 8:

Hey, guys. You know, the first promo I did on those alligators, they did the whole making fun of Karen.

00:02:36 - 00:02:38 | Speaker 4:

Oh, right, right.

00:02:38 - 00:02:42 | Speaker 8:

She's Karen, and she's asking for the manager. Oh, okay.

00:02:42 - 00:02:56 | Speaker 4:

I did see that one. But, yeah, Mike's right. There's usually, in this market, a lot of the writers or the promos will put a million puns in there. Like, she's going to sink her teeth into the alligator store. You know, like that kind of stuff.

00:02:56 - 00:02:57 | Speaker 8:

Snapping at them.

00:02:57 - 00:02:57 | Speaker 4:

Right.

00:02:58 - 00:03:12 | Speaker 6:

So, Karen, I know we have to wait until 545 tonight to know exactly the story. But you and I have had discussions about this. What is the deal with people in Michigan that want to have pet alligators?

00:03:13 - 00:03:46 | Speaker 8:

Right? I have some friends in Florida, and they're like, I don't even understand. Like, why are people in Michigan buying gators? Because they come from Florida. They ship them in I was really surprised But apparently it's a thing They do it at expos where they sell them And then they sell some at pet stores Some cities it's legal to do Some cities it's not Some cities you can sell them but you can't own them So like in Allen Park Where I go It's like they can sell the gator But if the gator is bigger than 6 inches long You walk out the door and then you're illegal Wait why would they allow that?

00:03:46 - 00:03:49 | Speaker 4:

Spoiler alert they're all going to get bigger than 6 inches

00:03:49 - 00:03:56 | Speaker 8:

Yeah, like, just check back in about two weeks. You're breaking the law. Yeah. And then what's... Did you know... Okay, did you have any idea how old an alligator can get?

00:03:57 - 00:03:59 | Speaker 6:

No. How long does an alligator live?

00:03:59 - 00:04:01 | Speaker 8:

It could be, like, 70 years old.

00:04:01 - 00:04:02 | Speaker 6:

Oh, my gosh.

00:04:02 - 00:04:04 | Speaker 8:

I'm kidding you. I'm, like, 15 feet.

00:04:04 - 00:04:12 | Speaker 6:

Although I will say this, though. Having lost a dog and it was traumatizing for me and the kids, I wish my animals would live forever.

00:04:12 - 00:04:15 | Speaker 9:

But you liked Lily because she was cuddly.

00:04:15 - 00:04:15 | Speaker 6:

Yeah.

00:04:15 - 00:04:18 | Speaker 9:

You're not cuddling in the corner of your big couch with an alligator.

00:04:18 - 00:04:31 | Speaker 6:

Do you think that, Karen, people that have these pet alligators, do they have them because it's some kind of like a – I always think that it's a sexual fetish or I think it's some kind of illicit –

00:04:31 - 00:04:32 | Speaker 8:

That's a fetish of a gator?

00:04:33 - 00:04:41 | Speaker 6:

Yeah, well, I don't know. I always feel like people who have exotic animals are weird people that like to do sexual things or do high amounts of drugs.

00:04:41 - 00:04:44 | Speaker 8:

Don't even know the correlation, but it sounds interesting.

00:04:44 - 00:05:12 | Speaker 4:

It's just a lack of common sense. I love exotic animals. I love, I'll wrap a snake around me. I'll hold a gator. I love going out in nature and seeing them. But no, that's where it stops. I go to where you can see them like a zoo or some other place where it's safe. I stop at the, I'm not going to bring it home Because guess what, when the alligator's big You've got to feed it to damn rabbits and deer And all of a sudden people realize How much it costs to feed a gator And next thing you know, they're letting them loose In our neighborhoods

00:05:12 - 00:05:56 | Speaker 2:

What do you feed a gator? Well, you know what's crazy, after my promo started airing I had this viewer tip me off to her neighbor And I'm not going to say in what community Because I want to bust him But he doesn't want his gator to get too big So he's keeping him in like a glass aquarium And he's not feeding him Oh, that's awful. Like he's feeding them but not feeding them much. And then they wind up in this sanctuary over in Athens, Michigan, and we go over there. And these gators, their spines are screwed up. Their mouths are screwed up. Because, like, they're stuck in these boxes, so their teeth are all jammed. And he has, like, 200 gators that people have either just dumped or they throw them in the waterways. Or in the past month, we have had two breaking news scanner alerts that gators were on the loose in Detroit.

00:05:56 - 00:06:15 | Speaker 3:

Oh, my God. That petrifies me. That sounds like a movie or something. Okay, so Karen Drew tonight is going to tell you on clickondetroit.com, Channel 4, watch it live. Local 4, streaming, YouTube, we're everywhere. Yes, but you can also follow Karen. Karen, what is your social media?

00:06:16 - 00:06:20 | Speaker 2:

I'm karendrew.tv on Insta. I love following you.

00:06:20 - 00:06:26 | Speaker 3:

Follow her because you can also see her dancing and singing to Rob Bass. It takes two to make a thing go right.

00:06:26 - 00:06:42 | Speaker 2:

dude which i loved so pathetic it was so sad were you guys smoking gator at that time or what was going on funny we weren't my brother that was my brother and i over the weekend we had this thing with like 90s rap music and so uh i'm gonna play that song tomorrow on our throwbacks uh for you

00:06:42 - 00:06:54 | Speaker 3:

so i might have to do a little dance yeah karen karen i want you to know does the best stories because she's like not afraid to like put the mic in people's face but she's also kind of cute when

00:06:54 - 00:06:58 | Speaker 2:

she does it too like she she kind of try to be like a mean person yeah you know i'm just like

00:06:58 - 00:07:09 | Speaker 4:

dude you've got gators like that's crazy and i hope this person has the courage to let us get them on the air that just texas said i have two alligators they're great pets for my family

00:07:09 - 00:08:07 | Speaker 3:

who is this person what are they doing like i'd love it i'd love to talk i got him hold on i got him right here karen hold on uh let's talk to gator what's their name hopefully it's uh like gator gator gary no it's gator lisa lisa yeah put her on hold a woman who who is i thought you guys were more sensible than us guys do you want to put her on hold so i can talk to her okay lisa lisa yeah you're on oh you're gonna voice disguise you hold on a second so karen's gonna have to listen on hold there because that's the only way you can hear it doesn't want karen showing up on her doorstep uh lisa's an alias obviously for you but uh lisa why do you have gators as pets oh hold on i gotta push the button hang on a second go ahead there you go tell answer that question i said they're interesting they're different yeah but you know so are so is you know reading the hair the harry uh prince harry book that's interesting and different but it's

00:08:07 - 00:08:19 | Speaker 1:

not going to bite you they don't bite me really how big are they right now um one is about four and a half feet and the other one's about three and a half feet what happens if they haven't

00:08:19 - 00:08:32 | Speaker 3:

bitten you yet those are big yeah what happens when they grow and get bigger um i'm actually going to kill them and eat them you're going to kill them and eat them hold on hold on a second real real quick stay there for one second karen any questions you'd like us to relay to her i mean

00:08:32 - 00:08:48 | Speaker 2:

I'm so upset right now. Like, who would kill a pet and eat? I'm just dumbfounded. This is a perfect example, and this is going on. But I would like to know, like, okay, is she taking care of them? Like, they need to be in certain water, or is she just keeping them in a box or a little aquarium?

00:08:48 - 00:08:52 | Speaker 4:

Lisa, the one is already the size, the length of a bathtub. Where do you keep it?

00:08:53 - 00:08:55 | Speaker 1:

They have their own room with a pond.

00:08:56 - 00:09:01 | Speaker 3:

They have their own room with a pond. What room would that be? Is that a bathroom, like with a?

00:09:01 - 00:09:02 | Speaker 1:

No, it's a bedroom.

00:09:02 - 00:09:06 | Speaker 3:

So you put them in a bedroom, and you made a pond in your bedroom.

00:09:06 - 00:09:07 | Unknown:

Yeah.

00:09:07 - 00:09:11 | Speaker 1:

I just went to, like, Home Depot and bought one of the ponds you'd put in your backyard or your front yard.

00:09:12 - 00:09:14 | Speaker 4:

And put it in your house. And aren't they, like, pooping on the floor and stuff?

00:09:15 - 00:09:17 | Speaker 1:

Nope. They only go to the bathroom in the water.

00:09:17 - 00:09:20 | Speaker 3:

Really? Okay. Karen, any more questions you'd like me to ask?

00:09:21 - 00:09:26 | Speaker 2:

I'm so dumbfounded. I mean, I guess she's pretty much explained exactly the issue.

00:09:26 - 00:09:34 | Speaker 4:

I don't even know if I have a problem. Yeah. Yeah, she says they're great pets for her family, but they're stuck behind a door, and then we're going to eat them when they get too big.

00:09:34 - 00:09:35 | Speaker 2:

No, they roam through the house.

00:09:35 - 00:09:37 | Speaker 4:

They roam through the house. Do you have children?

00:09:38 - 00:09:44 | Speaker 2:

Yes, I have eight. Is this an ethical thing where you stick your gator in a bedroom in a pond?

00:09:44 - 00:09:47 | Speaker 3:

Karen, she has eight kids. How old are your kids? What are they age? She had nine.

00:09:48 - 00:09:54 | Speaker 1:

They range from six to 31. Has there ever been an incident with a gator?

00:09:55 - 00:09:56 | Speaker 4:

Do you tape their mouth shut?

00:09:56 - 00:09:57 | Speaker 1:

No, I do not.

00:09:57 - 00:09:58 | Speaker 3:

The children's, not the gators.

00:09:59 - 00:10:00 | Unknown:

I don't know.

00:10:00 - 00:10:05 | Speaker 6:

Yeah, so your six-year-old, you're okay with your six-year-old playing with the gators?

00:10:05 - 00:10:06 | Unknown:

Mm-hmm.

00:10:07 - 00:10:10 | Speaker 1:

They pick them up, they shower with them, they help with them.

00:10:10 - 00:10:12 | Speaker 6:

Wow, they shower with them, Karen.

00:10:12 - 00:10:23 | Speaker 1:

You know, I've never thought to ask the parents of a proposed play date for Lucy or Smith if they have gators in the house. I ask about pools, guns, but I've never said, do you have a gator?

00:10:23 - 00:10:26 | Speaker 6:

What town do you live in? Hold on, let me...

00:10:26 - 00:10:28 | Speaker 1:

Real quick. I live in Brownstown.

00:10:28 - 00:10:31 | Speaker 6:

She lives in Brownstown, Karen. And do we know the laws of Brownstown?

00:10:32 - 00:10:35 | Speaker 3:

I'm going to look them up. I'm going to look them up. 4-5-45, I'll tell you that.

00:10:35 - 00:10:51 | Speaker 6:

Hey, Lisa, one very, very important question on the whole gator thing and having the kids and everything there. Do your gators ever go outside to meet the neighbors, or do they just stay in that little swamp room that you have? Because I'd be scared if you lived in my neighborhood.

00:10:51 - 00:10:57 | Speaker 2:

I do look them outside. My kids take them outside. We let them roam in the grass in the summertime.

00:10:57 - 00:11:14 | Speaker 5:

time um have you ever lost a gator no okay but you realize if there ever is an accident with i mean and the odds with six kids and roaming the house free eventually they'll get big enough there will be an accident your children will be taken away from you um i i don't have accidents

00:11:14 - 00:11:19 | Speaker 2:

with them because my kids have like i said grown up with them yeah they know how to handle them

00:11:19 - 00:11:24 | Speaker 5:

um but they're wild animals they're not domesticated at some point an alligator accident

00:11:24 - 00:11:43 | Speaker 2:

could happen no and i get you on that and i completely understand you on that but my kids know when to interact with them when not to interact with them and 99 of the time my kids just leave them alone and let them do their thing the only time they really interact with them is when it's time to change the the pond water or when it's time to feed them or when it's actually

00:11:43 - 00:11:51 | Speaker 6:

time to eat their tails eat their tails i'm sorry have you ever had gator tails it's very delicious What do you, do you dip them in ranch?

00:11:53 - 00:11:53 | Speaker 2:

No.

00:11:54 - 00:11:58 | Speaker 5:

I had gator tail, but I didn't raise it myself. I went to a place that served gators.

00:11:58 - 00:12:03 | Speaker 2:

It's just like a farm. Like, when you grow up on a farm, you have a pig or a cow and you raise it.

00:12:03 - 00:12:06 | Speaker 5:

Yeah, that cow ain't biting a chunk out of my ass, though.

00:12:07 - 00:12:19 | Speaker 6:

You guys sound like a bunch of interrogators right now. Oh, wow, that's good. Karen, save that one for tonight. Well, she's the investigator. Investigator. There you go.

00:12:19 - 00:12:26 | Speaker 3:

I did that one in my first promo. I was an investigator. I did that one. Sorry, I used it. It's all right.

00:12:26 - 00:12:55 | Speaker 6:

I can't believe how many people we have on the phone lines here. And, Karen, you're on the right path with this thing. You guys have been doing this gator story for some time now. Yeah. A lot of listeners that have gators. Chaz, you have a gator, and you say that your child feeds the gator. How old is your child? He's six. You dumb son of a bee. What are you doing letting your six-year-old feed the gator? Hey, you can't be scared of him. That's how accidents happen. Oh, my gosh.

00:12:55 - 00:12:59 | Speaker 5:

No, your accidents happen when you get comfortable enough with them to think that accidents can't happen.

00:12:59 - 00:13:31 | Speaker 6:

Here, call Karen. Karen, did I hang up on you, Karen? Yeah, you did. I did. I'm sorry about that. Chaz lets his six-year-old feed the gators. They play, you know, choo-choo, you know, and feed each other. But hold on. And then we got another Karen on the phone. Karen, Drew, quick question. When the name Karen became one of somebody that, you know, yells and screams at you and says bad things, did you ever think about changing your name just to, like, I don't know, Sandy Drew?

00:13:33 - 00:13:39 | Speaker 3:

It's just the worst name ever. And then they described it as, like, a middle-aged woman who asked for the manager with, like, short blonde hair. And that's literally who I am.

00:13:42 - 00:13:45 | Speaker 6:

Listener Karen, your boyfriend is looking to buy a gator?

00:13:46 - 00:13:50 | Speaker 4:

Yeah. He actually would rather prefer a gator over a dog at this point.

00:13:50 - 00:13:51 | Speaker 5:

Why?

00:13:52 - 00:14:03 | Speaker 4:

He just, as he was growing up as a kid, gators were always his favorite animal. And now he's dead set to one point own a house and have a basement that's completely turned into a gator playroom for him.

00:14:03 - 00:14:09 | Speaker 5:

Oh, that's insane. I mean, it's not fair to the gators. Why not just go to a sanctuary where they have all the land and all the needs taken care of?

00:14:09 - 00:14:15 | Speaker 4:

That's what I keep telling him, that it's not going to be fair to keep them all cooped up inside and everything.

00:14:15 - 00:14:18 | Speaker 5:

Yeah. Wow. Move to Florida. They'll be in your backyard every week.

00:14:18 - 00:14:20 | Speaker 4:

Oh, he would do that in a heartbeat.

00:14:20 - 00:14:25 | Speaker 6:

Wow. All right. Well, listen, watch tonight. What town are you in?

00:14:26 - 00:14:27 | Speaker 4:

Like Auburn Hills.

00:14:27 - 00:14:32 | Speaker 6:

Watch tonight. Karen Drew is going to tell you the towns that you could get in trouble for owning these things, okay?

00:14:33 - 00:14:35 | Speaker 4:

Oh, excellent. I'll have to let him know.

00:14:35 - 00:14:39 | Speaker 6:

Yeah. All right. Local 4 tonight. Karen Drew, always a pleasure to have you on.

00:14:39 - 00:14:43 | Speaker 3:

I mean, who would really think that you'd do a Gator story and you'd get that many calls in that many minutes? Seriously.

00:14:43 - 00:14:45 | Speaker 5:

The texts are coming in a mile a minute.

00:14:46 - 00:14:53 | Speaker 6:

It's amazing. Any good gossip you got for us over at Local 4? I always ask J Towers, the Fox 2 gossip.

00:14:53 - 00:14:59 | Speaker 3:

Well, I mean, if it's gossip, I can't really tell you yet. It looks like official. Quick, quick. There's lots of things.

00:15:00 - 00:15:12 | Speaker 2:
