students educators and business leaders have to say my name is materica terry lamell and my major is general education. Some of the obstacles I have overcame at Bishop State is proving that I can show up consistently even when my life was heavy. There are moments where I still feel overwhelmed by balancing work, leadership, parenting, and school, but Bishop reminded me that I'm capable of growth and not perfection, that I'm supported as long as I'm committed to being a better person than I was yesterday. My peers can depend on me. I'm there being poured into but some of those students don't know that the faculty and staff are really there for them so when they don't know that i'm their resource that explain and show them that they're here to

you guys here with us we're going to start off with a little bickering between uh me and kevin And I know it doesn't sound like it's anything different than what you probably just heard. But I will say this to you guys. I'm deeply offended. Sitting here in the studio, I walk into the studio. I come in early. I've been in here earlier than I have been in time past because I'm trying to get things situated with one arm here. And Kevin walks into the studio this morning, not like you did, Shannon, where you walked in and go, good morning and you know then right or uh what's her name uh lydia walks in and says uh you know hey moj you know and then bianca uh walks in hey you look good today uh so cap walks in and goes man what's that smell and i'm like what's this i knew i didn't do anything at all i knew i did there was nothing that came out of my uh my backside um and he's like oh man smells like a lot of cologne and i'm like what are you talking about he's talking about me yeah i don't think

i didn't say it was a lot of cologne and we're not about to make this story in a way that makes me look crazy so this happened look this happened yesterday because today i came in and i didn't say anything even though i smelled it i came in yesterday i was like damn it's some i probably did say it like how did i think about it i said what's i might i don't remember what i said what's that smell. It was a strong scent of cologne. That's all I'm saying.

You did not say it in a good way. I didn't say it was

bad, though, because you asked. You was like, does it stink? Does it smell? You said, did it stink? Does it smell? And I was like, I don't think it's either way. It's just noticeable.

That's all I said. He does have a very distinct smell. When you walk in this studio, you smell the cologne. Is it too much? It's also his laundry detergent. Whatever Chelsea uses, I actually, I like it. Kevin, I don't think you wear too much.

Kevin gave me the, ah, like, you know how when somebody doesn't like something, their nose goes up and goes, eh, like, you know, it's kind of like the I just smelled somebody fart, you know, smell.

If I can taste it, it's too much. And there's somebody who works here, and we have talked about this before.

Oh, yeah.

And she wears way too much, and I can taste it. Yeah. Like, when she walks by.

And hers is kind of musky, too, right?

Hers is yuck.

Yeah. Yeah. It's yuck. Not musk, it's yuck.

Well, my intention wasn't to make you feel self-conscious or to make it seem like your smell wasn't desirable. It was just very noticeable when I walked in the studio. And that hasn't been the past. Maybe if you shower more than how many times a week, Kevin?

What does my showering have to do with how you smell? Because you have openly said on this show that you shower twice a week or something. You don't shower all the time. Again, what does my showering have to do with the way you smell? Because maybe you're smelling yourself. Maybe the reason my smell is so pungent to you is because sometimes I throw in a little Dior.

You do? I don't feel like I've ever smelled it wrong. You smell Dior. You tell me I smell nice. Really? Hold on a second. Who comes out here right now? What's going on? I wear just the right amount. Okay. Yeah. Well, you got to get up on me in order to smell it. I don't spray enough to where I walk in a room and it's like, oh, my God, somebody has Kelowna.

I'm very offended. I'm offended because I feel like I'm being called out right now.

How many sprays do you do?

I do two sprays and I don't walk into my sprays. I do a spray on my clothes and I do a spray on my neck.

Always spray on the body. I never spray on the clothes.

I do the clothes because you never know, you know, if the clothes are going to get stinky later in the day. You're going to start getting that. I've been wearing them for a while. Smell.

Sometimes I spray on the top of my head, like in my hair. Really? Well, because, one, your hair, like, keeps that smell. But also, I'm so short that I want to make, like, if somebody hugs me, then I'll get a little, a good little whiff.

I never thought about that. When I was younger, I was told to spray. So then where do I spray if I'm tall? Your balls. Yeah, there you go.

Spray right in the belly button. I'm right about to there. When I was younger, I was told to spray on the inner wrist where the pulses are and then rub it on the pulses around your neck so it pulsates out.

The cosmetic counters in the mall, they always do that. They'll always spray it. They'll spray it on that little piece of paper, but they'll also, hey, let me give you something, and they'll put it on the wrist for you. Lynn, what's going on? I'm being called out for being the stinky kid in school. What's happening?

Good morning, everybody. Good morning. So I work at a local thrift store, which remains to be unnamed. We were doing a store opening, and this little kid walks in with his mom, and he's going, Mom, Mom, Mom. And she's, what? It smells like Grandma and Grandpa in here.

Thrift stores do have that smell, that musty smell. Mom, mothball, Mom, Mom. It was so funny.

Do you guys ever get stuff sent into your thrift store, like people donate and you can't take it because the smell is so bad?

Oh, absolutely. Yeah, that goes to the wayside.

Is it body odor, you think? That's the smell you guys can't get out?

You know, for me, actually, I lost my smell during COVID. Oh, okay. So, thankfully, one of our other store processors, she has the nose for smelling.

Yeah, Angel from our sales department lost her sense of smell. And one time we were out somewhere and I go, oh, my God, it smells horrible. And Angel's like thinking I'm thinking about her. It's not, you know, but it was something that we walked into. She couldn't smell a thing and it was bad. It would smell like raw sewage.

No wonder she gives that long of a hug to some people.

She can't smell anybody. What's up, Katie? How you doing?

Okay, I love that smell, that Sol de Janeiro. That's all Lucy wears. It's the best. It is the best smell.

How could you have not tried it? Shannon and Joe went on and on about that years ago. I ended up buying it because they went on and on about that. It was Ellen.

And now they have body sprays. They have like 12 different kinds. They've really expanded their products.

I don't know what the purple one is, but the purple one's good, too.

I remember when I coached middle school basketball, it was just Axe that I would walk into. Like, we'd walk into the locker room at Abbott Middle School, and I'd walk in there, and it was literally body odor or Axe. That was all you smell. And those kids would all wear it. Is that a thing still for the middle school kids?

Everyone smelled the same, though, back then. I remember.

I, every girl in middle school smelled like teen spirit deodorant. We all had the same deodorant. And so when we were changed for gym class, like that's all you smelled. I remember.

I have a cologne thief in my house. Now that Luke is back from school, Luke stole, Luke stole my cologne. He steals everything. My cologne, my deodorant, my toothpaste. I can't use a razor anymore. So if I shave, I have to look at the razor before I shave because he uses my razor. And then I get chopped up because he's like, you know, doing it. Does Lucy yet? Is she starting to use any of your stuff?

Lucy doesn't shave. Wes has his own razor. Although, so Smith shares a bathroom with Wes and I. And last night he was showering. And I came in and he looked very guilty. And I was like, what are you doing? And he's like, he had my razor in his hand. And I'm like, what are you doing with my razor? And he's like, sometimes I like to shave my body, mom. I'm like, Smith, please. like you're not you are supposed to have hair okay so like if you have hair on your legs that's okay but those legs are smooth as a butt right now does he ever use your like expensive shampoo as body

wash because chelsea used to always yell at the boys yes because he makes potions while he's

showering so now i have a shelf that he's allowed to you it's like all the stuff that i pick up at hotel, you know, all the little like travel toiletries. So I throw tons of those in the shower so he can make his potions. He is not allowed to touch anything else.

This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

My name is Patrick Pettway, and I am getting my Associates of Science and General Education with an emphasis in business administration. To me, it was a no-brainer. When you go out here and you're looking for funding to go back to college as a 40-year-old man, I got six people in my household. The extra money just doesn't just grow out of trees. For me to be able to be accepted through FAFSA and to have Bishop State pay for all of my tuition, not only that, but the curriculums, you know, they make it so easy to understand on their website. Like I said, I'm a 40-year-old man, so I don't use technology too much, but it was very understandable where I needed to go. It was extremely fast. These past two years, things have just moved in a total different type of way. It's like its own moving entity to see things manifest the way that they do.
