This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

00:00:53 - 00:01:37 | Speaker 5:

My name is Patrick Fetway, and I am getting my Associates of Science and General Education with an emphasis in business administration. To me, it was a no-brainer. When you go out here and you're looking for funding to go back to college as a 40-year-old man, I got six people in my household. The extra money just doesn't just grow out of trees. For me to be able to be accepted through FAFSA and to have Bishop State pay for all of my tuition, not only that, but the curriculums, you know, they make it so easy to understand on their website. Like I said, I'm a 40-year-old man, so I don't use technology too much, but it was very understandable where I needed to go. It was extremely fast. These past two years, things have just moved in a total different type of way. It's like its own moving entity to see things manifest the way that they do.

All right, it's Mojo in the morning. Well, look who's here. Look who's here.

00:02:06 - 00:02:21 | Speaker 4:

Don't do it. Kev, let me tell you something. Today I woke up, I'm like, not feeling that great. I think I'm going to pull Kev and just text everybody half hour before the show starts and say, you know what? You know what? I'm going to stay home today. Half hour is generous.

00:02:21 - 00:02:32 | Speaker 6:

Half hour. He wasn't late. Well, let's just put it that way. By like a minute or so with his message that said, I, but go back. What is the, what was the message? It was a very.

00:02:33 - 00:02:34 | Speaker 4:

It was in all caps too, by the way.

00:02:34 - 00:02:38 | Speaker 6:

It was an, is the word ominous? Is that what they call it?

00:02:38 - 00:02:50 | Speaker 4:

While you're looking for it, please, everybody listening, know that nobody on this show knew that you were not coming in except for Mojo and Lydia. So we start our meeting. I'm like, where the heck's the guy? Have you overslept again? And they're like, no, two minutes ago, he just decided.

00:02:50 - 00:02:55 | Speaker 6:

He literally. Doesn't want to work today. Hold on a second. Where is it? Lydia, do you have a message?

00:02:55 - 00:02:57 | Speaker 7:

It was at 540 yesterday morning.

00:02:58 - 00:02:58 | Speaker 4:

540? Yeah.

00:02:59 - 00:02:59 | Unknown:

Wow.

00:02:59 - 00:03:01 | Speaker 4:

So during our meeting.

00:03:01 - 00:03:02 | Speaker 6:

Yeah. Or just before.

00:03:03 - 00:03:03 | Speaker 4:

Kevin Irwin.

00:03:03 - 00:03:15 | Speaker 6:

The message basically was, like, not even longer than four words. It was, I am not coming in today or something like that. Or I'm taking a day off.

00:03:15 - 00:03:23 | Speaker 7:

Let's see. Or something like that. Hey, look, if we're going to point the finger, if we're going to blame anyone for this, then we have to blame Mojo.

00:03:23 - 00:03:23 | Speaker 6:

Why?

00:03:24 - 00:04:36 | Speaker 7:

First off, I do apologize. Very unprofessional of myself to operate that way. It's crazy because two things happened the day before. First thing is I'm on the phone with Tony and we're having a conversation. And I tell Tony one of my favorite Charles Barkley quotes is the best ability is availability. because it doesn't matter how good you are if you're not there, right? Everybody, you talk about Michael Jordan being the greatest player of all time. It doesn't matter if he's got a 40-inch vertical. If he breaks his hand, he can't play. So it doesn't matter. So I have that conversation with Tony. And then to reveal to the listener, we have a meeting every week. And we talk about the show. We talk about things that are coming up, things we want to do, and, you know, kind of check in. In this meeting, I am not the topic of conversation. But randomly, Mojo leans back in his chair and says, Hey, hey, Kev, you look exhausted. You need a rest. You need a rest. Now, how many people on this show can say that for somehow, someway, Mojo always either knows what's going on without anybody saying anything or he can speak something into existence? Yes. That's what happened.

00:04:37 - 00:04:39 | Speaker 6:

Did I speak it into existence or was it going on?

00:04:39 - 00:04:49 | Speaker 7:

No, it wasn't going. No, I mean, I was tired, you know, of course. It's tired, but not to the point where you come out and say, you need rest, you look exhausted, all of that, and then I'll wake up at 5.40 and I just don't have it.

00:04:50 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 6:

I said what I meant by it. By the way, I would never say it to any women, because if I said it to a woman, they take offense. They think that you're saying basically that they're ugly or something, but I.

00:05:00 - 00:05:43 | Speaker 5:

I had said I saw Kevin at the game on Saturday, and his energy level, to me, he was faking it the whole way because he looked like he had been burning the candle on all ends because, you know, for those that don't know this, Kevin not only works for us and has the energy to literally be from start to finish upbeat, but he also does that in stadium for the Detroit Pistons, and then also tonight you'll be at the Michigan State Spartans game, right? That's right. Spartans basketball and and then does countless other stuff with clients and things like that but he just looked and he's had a lot of personal stuff that's going on he had to move what a day before Christmas or something like that

00:05:43 - 00:05:44 | Speaker 4:

basically

00:05:44 - 00:06:04 | Speaker 5:

and just ended a relationship and he's a dad and all this stuff so okay so long story short and he's got Ashley and Ashley, Ashley one, Ashley two some other girl that I don't know that's like crazy DMs. God, this guy's got everything in his DMs. So I said that to you. Here's the email, by the way. The email that he sent.

00:06:04 - 00:06:06 | Speaker 3:

It was an email. It was official. It was an email. See?

00:06:06 - 00:06:38 | Speaker 5:

All caps. Guys, I need to take today. It was two and then D-A-Y off with a space in between. Two day off. So, but yeah. So that was it. But I will say this. I'm happy that you're here. I'm happy that you're well. The only other thing that I have to complain about with you. And it's not about even how you called or emailed me, Lydia, and Tony. And for those who don't know, Tony's our boss. Lydia's our executive producer. Was we text him to say, is everything okay? And he doesn't answer all day.

00:06:38 - 00:06:38 | Speaker 4:

Listen.

00:06:38 - 00:06:48 | Speaker 5:

Everybody texts you. Not everybody. Tony Travato did. Yes. Lydia did. I did. Everyone on the email. Who did not text you?

00:06:50 - 00:06:52 | Speaker 4:

I mean, Zach, KP, Megan, Shannon.

00:06:52 - 00:06:55 | Speaker 3:

I normally do text you. But this, I was like, oh, you just needed it.

00:06:55 - 00:07:00 | Speaker 5:

Zach came in my ear and just said that he did not. He did not. And he says he doesn't care about you. He thinks that you're a...

00:07:00 - 00:07:08 | Speaker 1:

I'm a big person of, if you're going to call off that late, probably a family emergency. If you want to tell me, that's fine, but I'm not going to ask. I think it's weird to ask.

00:07:08 - 00:07:16 | Speaker 5:

Well, I think it's also just concern of how are you? Are you okay? Because that's all I text. I said, are you doing okay?

00:07:16 - 00:07:16 | Speaker 4:

Yeah.

00:07:16 - 00:07:39 | Speaker 5:

And that was it. So I would not necessarily do I need you to tell me, but I just want to make sure you're not in jail, too. I got to be honest with you, half the time that anybody on this show does anything, I was worried that there's legal ramifications. I just want to make sure that we've got every attorney that we advertise on this radio station up for grabs. Oh, hold on. Valerie wants to say something. What's up, Valerie?

00:07:40 - 00:08:01 | Speaker 2:

Hey, Kev. I called in when you were crying about the headphones, and I told them that you call in too much. You are always calling in. That is not true. You put your big boy pants on. Valerie, that is not true. Compared to everybody else on that panel, you are not.

00:08:02 - 00:08:11 | Speaker 5:

Wait, can I speak up for you before you speak up? Please, please. I don't know where you get that he calls in too much. I have never thought that.

00:08:11 - 00:08:12 | Speaker 2:

How long have you been there?

00:08:13 - 00:08:14 | Speaker 5:

Almost two years. Yes.

00:08:15 - 00:08:16 | Speaker 2:

How many days off have you used?

00:08:17 - 00:08:18 | Speaker 5:

Who the hell are you?

00:08:18 - 00:08:21 | Speaker 2:

What is going on right now?

00:08:21 - 00:08:32 | Speaker 5:

Honestly, can I tell you something? We're allotted five sick days a year. I think Kevin's only, in the year and a half, has only taken one or two sick days tops.

00:08:32 - 00:08:35 | Speaker 3:

And they roll over.

00:08:36 - 00:08:37 | Speaker 5:

Yeah, we get vacation time.

00:08:38 - 00:08:42 | Speaker 3:

And a personal day and a spirit day.

00:08:42 - 00:08:42 | Speaker 4:

Yeah.

00:08:42 - 00:08:45 | Speaker 3:

I probably, Valerie, may I speak?

00:08:45 - 00:08:50 | Speaker 4:

I probably take the least vacation time of anyone on the show, Valerie. And one thing you said.

00:08:50 - 00:08:53 | Speaker 2:

Well, then I'll apologize, but it seems like you're always off.

00:08:53 - 00:08:57 | Speaker 4:

Well, look, we're not going to compare, because comparison is the thief of joy. Yes, it is. And we're a happy group.

00:08:58 - 00:09:00 | Speaker 2:

Okay, well, you, you, I apologize, then.

00:09:01 - 00:09:19 | Speaker 5:

Valerie, one of the things we also, one of the things we have to go back to is your thing about, yeah, the last conversation we had was, Kev, very upset that we do not get free headphones from iHeartRadio. Yesterday, he was going to get awarded free headphones until he didn't show up today. Oh, no. So, because he didn't show up today, it's like, oh.

00:09:19 - 00:09:39 | Speaker 3:

Wait, can I say something else, too? Because this is funny to me. So we had a conversation last week. Mojo and Lydia got very serious about everybody needs to be on time. Your butt needs to be in the studio at 530. We need to, like, really be aware of when we're here, da-da-da. Kev has been late and called off 10 minutes after our start time. But Kev just needs the rest.

00:09:39 - 00:09:44 | Speaker 5:

If that was any of the rest of us, we'd be having another meeting.

00:09:44 - 00:09:47 | Speaker 3:

Oh, yeah. I just want to make this very clear.

00:09:47 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 5:

Oh, oh, oh, hold on. You better not speak, KP. Teacher's pet. KP, KP, you've taken days off because you had a nail break or something.

00:10:00 - 00:10:35 | Speaker 6:

That's not true. In fact, I only took two sick days last year, and I emailed Tony about those sick days. He's like, didn't you take more than that? I'm like, no, I only took two, and I had, like, the actual dates. And it's like, I feel like you guys think I take a million sick days, even though I'm still in this building. It sounds like some people, it's like subjective sickness. Like, you get to pick who's been sick and who doesn't. It feels like, I don't know. It feels like you need to blow your nose. I was going to say, you sound sick. I did. I was sick last week and I did not take a sick day because I get judged for taking sick

00:10:35 - 00:10:44 | Speaker 5:

days. So I came to work sick. No, no, you don't get judged for doing sick days. You get judged for others. But we'll talk about that later. Meaning after the show, I get judged for taking

00:10:44 - 00:10:53 | Speaker 6:

my vacation days. Is that what you're going to say? No, you sound like a boomer. All right. Enough because I can't take calls when she's using the mic in here.

00:10:53 - 00:11:01 | Speaker 5:

so please yeah uh valerie valerie let me ask you a question who is here the most who is here always

00:11:01 - 00:11:17 | Speaker 6:

that you always hear um you know what kp's there lydia's there only person i ever miss maybe because he's on air is cavy i got a name cavy cavy cavy hey val um i i actually i actually will

00:11:17 - 00:11:34 | Speaker 5:

say this yesterday was uh or two days ago was the anniversary of my uh heart surgery and i remember when you have to take heart surgery, you have to take leave from the station, and they wanted me to take leave. The woman called me up and she goes, do you know that you have 370 days of sick days?

00:11:35 - 00:11:40 | Speaker 3:

I just checked mine yesterday. I have 49 sick days. Yeah. Save them, by the way, because God forbid you need them.

00:11:41 - 00:11:46 | Speaker 5:

But that was, I didn't have to take any short-term disability or do any of that stuff because I had so many sick days that were

00:11:46 - 00:11:54 | Speaker 6:

available. If I ever have a child, God forbid, don't put that witchcraft on me, Ricky Bobby. I think I can take five months off Wow, that's great.

00:11:54 - 00:11:57 | Speaker 5:

That's great. Valerie, what was your question for Kev? You want to say something?

00:11:58 - 00:12:00 | Speaker 6:

Hey, Kev, how many days do you have left?

00:12:01 - 00:12:12 | Speaker 5:

I'll get back to you, Valerie. Hold on a second here. Hold on. Abby, what's going on? You wanted to say something while Valerie's on the phone line here?

00:12:13 - 00:12:19 | Speaker 6:

No, I just said I will defend Kev until my last breath. Come on. My Friday mornings every morning.

00:12:19 - 00:12:27 | Speaker 5:

Oh, that's beautiful. That is so nice. Preach, babe. As long as it's not a Friday he takes off, because I don't know what we would do without the remix, right?

00:12:28 - 00:12:29 | Speaker 6:

Exactly.

00:12:29 - 00:12:40 | Speaker 5:

Yeah. Hold on. Ellie is on with us, and Valerie, are you there too? Ellie and Valerie? I am. All right, hold on. I am. Ellie, go ahead, Ellie. Valerie's still on the phone. What do you want to say?

00:12:42 - 00:13:04 | Speaker 6:

Valerie's doing too much. She's the one in the office nobody wants to deal with. She's the Karen, because you are my business too much. My PCO, my bacon. Oh, I love being a Karen, honey. I love it. Love it, love it, love it. I don't have a desk, honey. I don't wear a desk. I don't have a desk. I go to work and I'm on the floor every day.

00:13:08 - 00:13:20 | Speaker 5:

Lydia, we got to make Valerie a Misfit. Valerie's got to be Valerie Misfit Karen.

00:13:22 - 00:13:50 | Speaker 2:

This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

00:14:31 - 00:14:59 | Speaker 1:

My name is Neterica, Terry LaMille, and my major is general education. Some of the obstacles I have overcame at Bishop State is proving that I can show up consistently, even when my life was heavy. There are moments where I still feel overwhelmed by balancing work, leadership, parenting, in school, but Bishop reminded me that I'm capable of growth and not perfection, that I'm supported as long as I'm committed to being a better person than I was yesterday. My peers can depend on me.

00:15:00 - 00:15:15 | Speaker 3:

I'm there being poured into, but some of those students don't know that the faculty and staff are really there for them. So when they don't know that, I'm their resource that explain and show them that they're here to help us.
