that young man love my joke so i'm picking joe up from school and he had the opportunity to be selected to participate in some cool art program where they were bringing in some third party some artists from some community and they were going to have this whole art exhibit where they were going to draw a car and then the car is going to get wrapped by the chosen design and he was really excited he's one of the youngest guys that was awarded the opportunity to participate so i'm like joe fire go crazy here's your t-shirt size so on the flyer it says pick up your child at 7 30 now always show up early for joe to be honest with you so i get there about 7 15 but i'm a chill you know i'm just gonna chill wait till 7 30 i don't want to be that parent i don't want to have him being super embarrassed and then i want to see how he acts when he get out with the little kids or whatever but 7 30 roll in now the school that he goes to is partnered with the college for creative studies so you got college students coming in and the likes of whoever so 7 30 come i tell joe meet me at this little sculpture i'm standing at the sculpture first off when i walk in i don't see any kids now it's it's 7 30 you know what i'm saying so i don't expect to see many kids but if there are kids that are in this program and you get out then where the hell are kids at no kids coming 7 35 no kids coming now i'm starting to get a little worried because anytime i've picked them up after school they've gotten out immediately I go to security. I'm like, hey, my son is in da-da-da-da-da. I'm picking him up. He's like, oh, they got out at 7 o'clock. Now my heart started being fast. I'm like, what you mean they got out at 7 o'clock? Voice getting a little louder. You know what I'm saying? What do you mean? He's like, they get out at 7 o'clock. I'm like, well, the email that I got, and I can pull up the attachment and show you the flyer. It says 730. He's like, well, I mean, you can't call him. I'm like, he doesn't have a cell phone. He pauses and is like, wait, how old is he? I'm like, he's 11 years old. What grade is he in? He's in his sixth grade, but the program gets, I'm trying to redirect the conversation because I can already see where he's headed. He's like, well, that's kind of weird. He doesn't have a cell phone. I'm like, we're not here to discuss if he has a cell phone. And I'm trying to establish where my child is. Can we figure out where they are? And then it goes to another thing where I'm trying to hit the elevator to go upstairs.

It's a lot of issues with this Then I go to this other security guard Because clearly you're not helping She said the same thing I'm like he doesn't have a cell phone How can we fix the problem that I'm having right now Because you know Long story short He was okay So he was calling you out for not having a cell phone Yeah and I don't think that's okay man

All right, what age are you supposed to give a kid a cell phone, though? If you got a kid, because I will say this, that I know that you guys, you and Shannon both, are not wanting your children to have cell phones. I think it's smart. They should stay as far away from that as possible. But it does come in handy when you're doing a lot of after-school stuff and sports to be able to text and call and all the rest of that stuff.

So, Luz got an Apple Watch for Christmas last year, and that solved that issue.

You can actually make calls on your watch? Yes.

Yeah, you can make calls on the Apple Watch. It helps when she is with her dad, and I want to get a hold of her. So, you don't need to have a phone connected to the watch? I mean, the watch has a number. Like, she has a number, so I can text her. You can text her there. Okay. And it's similar, and it solves that problem. Okay. But then she's not carrying around a phone with her head in her phone and apps and all of those things all the time. So it solved the issue, but it put off for hopefully a couple more years. Yeah. You know, I mean, she asked me for a phone every dang day, but she's not getting a phone anytime soon.

So my biggest worry is YouTube and YouTube shorts, because that's what Josiah is really big into right now. And the amount of the variance in content on YouTube shorts is what scares me. what about a jitterbug phone jitterbug these be commercial yeah yeah yeah i don't know what

they call it smith has a gizmo like there's like the gizmo watch the gab watch and already this year he's like mom it's not cool i can i have an apple watch for christmas so okay because i from

my experience i didn't get a cell phone until my parents split up and that was so that i could communicate with everybody like where to pick me up where drop off was going to be like what time my activities were yada yada yada but before that and i know they're not cool and they were normal at the time i had one of those like nextel pay as you go phone so i had to earn my texts and minutes on my phone i didn't have access to the internet yeah heather i don't think that's a

not having a cell phone at the age 11 i have four children and not one of them got cell phones until they were in high school and even then they only got to keep it if they kept a the average yeah

so so you think that waiting until they're in high school is about the time would you guys say

that that might be a little late yeah only because it's a safety thing at this point like i think back in the day when i was in high school there were still access points for me to have access to a phone whether that was and they weren't as common but like a pay phone or just like business phones

No, and I don't think that people give you their cell phone to use either because they think you're going to steal it. So for a safety measure, I get it.

I think middle school is probably the time. I don't know. I just think that when you get into middle school and you're starting to go with kids that are a little older, I think that's where you might want to think about it. I don't know. It's the whole idea. I want it so I don't have to get out of the car. I want it so I can say I'm out here. Get your ass out here.

He couldn't receive a call or a text from no number. I didn't already have approved. So you can get your kid a phone to where they can only call you and call the people you initiate or receive text from. That way they have access they need to but can't make anything

out of it. These kids are smarter in technology than we are. They'll figure out a way around it.

Get the jail broken.

That kid, Kev's son knows Steve Jobs for God's sake. That's how smart that kid is.

They don't break a phone. That's crazy.

He already knows how to work an Apple 25. That's how smart these kids are. But I do think, I agree, you can obviously have as many restrictions as you possibly can. I think the one good thing for having the phone is that you can find their location. You know, you know their locations at all times.

I was just calling because I was listening this morning, and sometimes I don't get really good service, like, in my car in Saginaw to hear the mojo in the morning on my way to work but this morning I happened to catch it and um I have and I were from the city of Flint so you know growing up and being exposed to like so many different things and like I do I didn't have a phone back then until I was a teenager but now that things are that much more advanced I'm 34 and I have a soon to be 16 year old he will be 16 next month and I have a just turned 12 year old daughter um you know my kids have games they play their nintendo or ps5 or whatever to an extent but neither one of them have cell phones and you know there's a lot of reasons and i've i've caught my kids with different like phones through the years that we have like not used just using the internet and things like that yeah and then like well how did you get this phone like oh grandma lets me play on it so you know that automatically started raising red flags i'm like yeah no kids like they're just getting in too much trouble they're doing too many things you know i heard somebody mention like youtube shorts or just the things that kids would be doing my son is a teenager and i would rather not have the police at my house talking about your son made threats over a cell phone or your son did this or did that and just exposing them to things that were

exposed to as adults hey by the way uh and thank you for your comment but i was uh taken by your first comment you know that you can get us on the iHeart app on your phone you don't have to

worry about a signal yeah and in my in my car I have a 06 trailblazer so I oh so this is the

reason why the mom's not giving a phone she doesn't have the technology for her own I have

a question for you Jennifer you said you had a 16 year old does your 16 year old know how to drive yeah so what was that sorry does your 16 year old drive yeah he just started driving but not alone

are you comfortable having him drive without a phone to an extent just like from a to b i guess you know i guess people can judge me for what it was but like why does he need a phone while he's driving anything can happen what if he's in an accident and listen if you're not getting him a phone who stops to help him like a first responder like me will try to contact the people that need

be contacted if you're not getting him a phone for his safety i think that uh or for financial that i get okay all right you can't afford a phone go ahead but if you can't get a like if the kid's driving i would probably have him have a phone for his safety i would be worried if if we

separate for whatever reason honestly this sounds crazy but we spend a lot of time again i'm from the hood so we spend a lot of time out of the hood i take my children camping for the summer and like we use walkie talkies okay so for like i love a year we're together the entire time and the other times like they're with my parents okay so when we're going back and forth and like transferring children we haven't really come to like them being alone in a car which is a completely different scenario all right well listen i i uh i do love walkie talkies

as a kid that we used to bring back memories like i always thought i was in the military and stuff
