If you are the first car in the left turn lane, it is your responsibility that immediately as the light turns green, you have to go. Because not only are you wanting to turn left, but you're responsible for everybody behind you making sure that they can turn as quickly as possible before that light turns back around.

Exactly. Because some of these lights, whenever you are in your regular lane going straight, those greens are longer than the turning greens.
