I told you guys earlier about how we went to Chicago to go wish Jacob happy birthday and take him out for his birthday. He's our middle son. Well, our youngest son, Luke, did something for the very first time ever. And I'm not going to lie, we were a little worried about it. And some people think that we're crazy that this is the first time ever, but we left him home alone without having to have somebody watch the house and make sure that, you know, he was okay.

Isn't he about to go to college?

I know, Megan. Yes, he is.

And this is the first time?

He's 17 years old, and it's the first time that we actually left him in the house completely by himself overnight while Chelsea and I went somewhere.

That's wild. That seems a little late.

We're very protective parents.

Oh, yeah, I was unloved. That makes a lot of sense.

But I will say this to you that I don't think the other two boys have ever had it where they were home until around this time, too. I think they were around 16, 17 years old also when we kind of, like, let them stay home with, you know, Jacob watching Luke and stuff. But we always had somebody on call to make sure that, you know, everything was okay. Yeah. So this was the wild part, was I remember the first time that I was ever left by myself, and I told Chelsea when we were driving down 94 to go to Chicago, I said, do you remember that I told you a story about the time I threw the house party where Tom Barrett got two kegs, and then we got a bunch of red solo cups, and we sold them for a bunch of money, and we made a crap load of money. And then Tom ended up, I found out, given all the girls that were blonde hotties, free, you know, red solo cups. She goes, yeah, I go, it was when I was left home for the first time ever by myself. Chelsea was like, thanks for bringing that up right now. So the entire time that Luke was home by himself, we were watching the ring cams and we were paying attention to, you know, if the alarm in our house was turned on or turned off and all the rest of that stuff. And you want to know what Luke ended up doing? going to bed by nine o'clock that night he had a golf tournament up in frankenmuth this weekend and it was an early call where he had to be at school i think at like 6 a.m and the coach told them nobody going out you can't go out and do anything you had to make sure that you're you know home and in bed and stuff I

He was a little rule follower.

And he was a rule follower, and he ended up staying home and not doing anything. And I was a little bit, honestly, disappointed. I was kind of, because I wanted somebody to follow in my footsteps of throwing the party, because Joe and Jacob also never threw a party at our house. Joe never threw a party. Come on. Swear to you, he threw parties at other people's homes, but he never threw. He was always worried about having to clean up, because he knows that Chelsea is really super clean. something kind of crazy happen but I always got caught because I always inevitably destroyed something like at one point we had this carpet that was under our kitchen table and I set it on fire and it also burned the floor under me like oh my god so you what were you guys doing that lit the thing on fire um it was the coal to a hookah that we were doing in the kitchen and um somebody had dropped it and i didn't realize it i had rolled under the table under

the carpet set it on fire and oh my gosh megan oops wow so so you actually had you had a hookah going while you were doing this thing.

We ripped, like, they called, I almost said scones. They're sconces, right? Those are the fancy wall lights. Yeah. We ripped those off of walls. It was pretty obvious when we had friends over when my dad was at home because something was inevitably missing or broken. What was the punishment? Eh. When your dad found out nothing? I think if the house wasn't completely burned down and we were still alive, he was just like, oh my God, you guys are the worst children in the world. But we broke the couch one time and he sat on it. We fixed it enough where if he sat on it, it was going to break again, and we could frame him, but he didn't fall for that. He just knew that we broke the couch, and we kind of put it back together. We truly were terrible, terrible children.

Mike, you also did this, too? You threw a party when your parents were out?

Yes, yeah, but I lived in Belding, which is like a small, small farm town, so we could have people in. We had a little bit of land, so we had tons of people over. We'd have these huge bonfires, and I never got caught, except for one time. I went to invite, this is when there were house phones still, I went to invite everybody to my party, and my mom picked up the other phone in the house, and I was like, hey, yeah, guys, they're on their way out the door right now. And I hear my dad yell from upstairs, he's going to his grandparents.

He's not going.

Do you remember how you had to have a home phone, and there was a couple of different phones, and you could get busted with families listening in on calls?

Oh, yeah.

Yeah. I never threw a party, but my little sister did. And so my mom would go away and she hired this little, the sweetest old lady to watch us. Well, it was real easy for her to be sitting in the upstairs and not hear anything that was going on in the downstairs. And my sister was a pro at throwing parties. So sometimes I would come home from work and like half of my grade would be in our living room. She'd have a band set up in the corner. She had people park on a separate street. I mean, it was pro. It was never me. It was always my sister. But my classmate.

And the little old lady never came downstairs to get anything?

Sweet thing. I think she was probably sleeping or I don't know. Never knew about it.

Way too fast, yes, all the time. And I thought that I was always getting away with it. They never said anything. There was never any punishment. But very recently, I'm 30 years old now, my mother informed me that every time that she would come home, the dishwasher, both the top and bottom rack, was filled with all cups. And you didn't know. No, the house was cleaner than when she left every time, so she appreciated that. But she was like, oh, okay, so she just drank water all weekend again. Got it.

Hi. I threw a big party, and I thought I got away with it. And my parents came home the next day, and they found beer bottles in the toilet tank.

Oh, my gosh. People actually picked up the back of the toilet and put beer bottles in there.

Yes, my friends that were helping me clean up, I got through, like, you know, soft the toilet tank with beer bottles. So I thought I was all cool the next morning until my toilet wouldn't flush. My dad found out.

screwed yeah but my parents didn't find out i don't i don't think they did but anyway so i was i was definitely not 21 and um we had a party and my neighbors down the street they realized my parents are home so they called the cops and the cops came but we always were told don't answer the door you know because you don't want them to come in and well i'll get mips and everything so we didn't do that but they like two different cop cars sat in front of my house and they turned there's spotlights on my house and they sat out there for like an hour and we wouldn't you know we wouldn't let them in they were knocking on our door and we um heard our it's when we still had a house phone they called my house phone and they were like you guys just gotta let us in we're not gonna you know we're not mad blah blah blah and we're like you're crazy so we decided to take a vote and we told them that we voted we weren't letting them in and they couldn't come in yeah And they never, I fell asleep in the bathroom. We all were like hiding in my house and I fell asleep in my bathroom because, you know, we were all drinking, of course. So, but I fell asleep in my bathroom and I woke up and cops were gone. Thank God. And half of my friends hopped out the window to like run through my neighbor's yards and stuff. But, um, that was definitely, oh, wow. How funny. That was kind of crazy because I was scared. I was hiding in the bathroom and I thought, oh my God, I'll turn off all the lights. Yeah. They can't find me. I'm going to hide in the bathroom.

And I love that. We took a vote, and you guys aren't coming in.

So they came home early, and they were way out of town, out of state, and they ended up coming home early, and they ended up joining the party and got trashed, and one of my friends came and found me and told me that my parents were in their bedroom baking cookies.
