Mojo in the morning. Mojo in the morning. You know what we didn't talk about? I don't know if you guys saw this on our Mojo in the Morning Instagram over the weekend. Did you know that Lydia went this weekend and had a staycation by herself in a hotel in Detroit? What? I did not know that. I knew she had been wanting to do a solo trip. She did a go check into a hotel. Because for those who don't know, Lydia lives with her mom and dad. And then she even went to a, I saw you go to a Red Wings game too. and you went over there but um what so first off a if you really legitimately did it that way okay I get it but are you sure that there's not something more to the story that you need to tell

00:03:37 - 00:04:34 | Speaker 3:

all of us um no I feel like I just needed to get out of the house I mean I had well I had been telling my mom like I want to go on my own solo vacation and she was like that's not happening And I was like, well, why? And she's like, I feel like there's a lot of crazy stuff going on right now. However, if you do want to go out of town, I have to come with you. And I feel like at 27 years old, you don't really want your mom coming with you on a vacation. So I was like, you know what? I'm going to do a staycation. So this past weekend, I ended up staying at the Cambria Friday to Sunday. And I just explored Detroit. And on Saturday, I had a dinner planned out with somebody and they canceled on me. So I was like, you know what? I'm going to go to the Red Wings game by myself. So I sat at the Red Wings game, made friends with people around me, walked basically back to the Cambria in the rain. But it was just so much fun to enjoy my own personal space.

00:04:34 - 00:04:40 | Speaker 6:

Was it hard to buy one ticket? No. Or is it easy to buy? It was pretty easy. Can you get that? Where did you go? Like StubHub or something?

00:04:40 - 00:04:42 | Speaker 3:

Ticketmaster. They have the verified fan resale.

00:04:43 - 00:04:46 | Speaker 6:

And they have like one ticket you can put in there for one?

00:04:46 - 00:04:46 | Speaker 3:

Yeah.

00:04:47 - 00:04:56 | Speaker 6:

And when you were sitting down, did you, you know, like, was there just one seat there or was it a bunch of open seats?

00:04:56 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 3:

It was one seat. So I had, I think that was somebody who was a season ticket.

00:05:00 - 00:05:05 | Speaker 1:

older because there were two girls on my right and two girls two guys on my left so i was in the

00:05:05 - 00:05:09 | Speaker 2:

middle of both of them did you feel weird like did you feel like you had to introduce yourself

00:05:09 - 00:05:24 | Speaker 1:

to them because you were the one ticket person no but i was like chiming in on their conversations maybe they didn't want me to but i was just like yeah i agree or like we were all high-fiving each other on certain things and they were both drunk on both sides so it made it easier for me to have

00:05:24 - 00:05:48 | Speaker 2:

conversations with them yeah okay so i got a couple of questions that are with this number one you forget when you live with your parents your parents get into your business and stuff you wanted to get away because you wanted to get away from mom and dad being in your business all the time right okay so that was it and it felt good did it feel like you this was a moment of okay maybe i do need to move out of the house or are you good with just doing like a little

00:05:48 - 00:06:14 | Speaker 1:

vacation like this no i think that i would be ready to move out of the house but i i don't know how to explain this it just felt like i was lonely but i was happy at the same time like it felt like it felt like comfortable to be able to sit in a room alone and not feel like i have to answer to somebody like i just got to get ready and walk out of the door and go to a red wings game i didn't have to say hey mom this is where i'm going because you get stopped at like 7 p.m at the garage door

00:06:14 - 00:06:29 | Speaker 3:

i maintain that solo trips and in your case a solo staycation are life-changing they're the best things that you can do for yourself and i get that people get anxiety over doing things solo or being by themselves for an extended period of time but it's so good for you i was like making

00:06:29 - 00:06:42 | Speaker 1:

my schedule all booked up like i had one of my friends come friday then saturday i made plans and then i was like you know what i can actually do this by myself yeah good for you so i did everything alone and now i feel like i can be alone but maybe i'm just saying that because

00:06:42 - 00:07:06 | Speaker 2:

it was a friday through sunday thing when you check in because this is interesting as a guy If I check into a hotel by myself, like, if I'm going away for, like, work something or visiting my son in Chicago and Chelsea's not with me, I feel like they instantly think I'm there to pick up hookers or something. Do you feel like that as a woman? Like, do you feel like they think that you're there? Like, maybe you're an OnlyFans girl or something?

00:07:06 - 00:07:10 | Speaker 1:

I could have been. Do you have to sign a waiver for that? But, I mean, I guess.

00:07:10 - 00:07:13 | Speaker 2:

When they ask you for, do you want one or two keys, what did you say?

00:07:13 - 00:07:13 | Speaker 1:

I said one.

00:07:14 - 00:07:15 | Speaker 2:

You always get two keys.

00:07:15 - 00:07:16 | Speaker 1:

No, I said one.

00:07:16 - 00:07:32 | Speaker 2:

Bro, I'm two keys. So, Shannon likes the being alone by herself thing. I hate it. Like, I don't like being alone. Like, I feel like I check into the hotel and next thing I know, I'm walking around downtown or I'm, like, hanging out in the hotel lobby or something like that.

00:07:32 - 00:07:41 | Speaker 3:

I remember I challenged you to do a solo trip after I did a solo trip. No, you didn't fail. You won't. But didn't you, like, get injured the first night or something?

00:07:41 - 00:08:08 | Speaker 2:

I did. I almost cut my finger off pulling out my toiletries in my bag. I hit my razor on my finger, and I had to call down to the front desk and tell them, is there any way that you guys can bring up Band-Aids? They came up, and there was blood all over the place. It was crazy. They thought a hooker was dead inside that room. So, Lydia, what did you do downtown? What was the whole thing?

00:08:08 - 00:08:39 | Speaker 1:

I went to a bakery. I had dinner by myself. I walked a couple miles, and I got to actually meet some people on the street. There were a couple homeless people that I met, and I had lunch with them at Chipotle. I bought them dinner. You did? Full lunch, I guess I should say. It was like 4 p.m., and I felt like it was just life-changing. Like, I got to know how it is to live in certain aspects of your life. I've just never been able to do things independently, and I felt like this was, you know, mom and dad went away, and kid was going to stay, even though it was roles reversed.

00:08:39 - 00:08:47 | Speaker 2:

What was it? Did they ask you for money and then you just said, hey, come with me and I'll buy you food? Or did you just walk up to them and say, would you like something to eat?

00:08:48 - 00:09:05 | Speaker 1:

They asked if I would buy them a bowl from Chipotle. I was walking right past. And there were a couple of people that had walked ahead and I was wondering what they were saying to each other. And then when I approached them, they said, we just want something to eat. And I said, okay, well, come inside. I was looking for something to eat too. So we got to have lunch together.

00:09:06 - 00:09:09 | Speaker 2:

Wait, did you eat with them or just give them their food and they left?

00:09:09 - 00:09:09 | Speaker 1:

No, we ate together.

00:09:10 - 00:09:11 | Speaker 2:

Are you kidding me?

00:09:11 - 00:09:12 | Speaker 1:

I know. I love that.

00:09:12 - 00:09:15 | Speaker 2:

That's amazing. What did you learn about them? What did you find out?

00:09:15 - 00:09:37 | Speaker 1:

I learned that a couple of them had just recently gotten approved to have their own apartment. They're being funded. I don't know how that works through the state. And I also got to learn that they actually don't get to change their clothes that often, which was really sad. But I sound so disconnected, so I don't want to get really too much into it. But I was really surprised.

00:09:37 - 00:09:49 | Speaker 2:

Do you know how much more connected you are than any of us? Because I think 99% of people probably would just give them money or walk right by them. You actually ate with them.

00:09:49 - 00:10:03 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, it was definitely life-changing. And they're listeners as well. What? Yeah, I told them what I did. And they had told me how long that they had been homeless and how long they had... progressed to getting their own housing, so that was cool.

00:10:04 - 00:10:11 | Speaker 6:

Wow, that's amazing. Erin, what's going on? It's Mojo in the morning. Lydia went on a solo vacation, a staycation.

00:10:13 - 00:10:34 | Speaker 4:

I actually didn't do a staycation. I try to travel independently as much as possible. It's so liberating, as a single mom especially. You get to recenter. You're by yourself. There's no distractions. You get the TV to yourself. Go to bed when you want, wake up when you want, do the tourist things you want. It's wonderful.

00:10:35 - 00:10:36 | Speaker 6:

Do you ask for one or two keys?

00:10:38 - 00:10:43 | Speaker 4:

I don't think I've ever really paid attention. Really? I just take what they give me, yeah.

00:10:43 - 00:10:56 | Speaker 6:

Kev's right. You got to always get two keys. One might get screwed up. Yeah. That's cool to know. I guess as a mom, you got kids constantly on you, you know what I mean, like to be able to just lay in bed and watch what you want to watch?

00:10:57 - 00:11:26 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, well, I was a former flight attendant for quite a long time, and then I had to leave after my youngest daughter started school, and I didn't realize how important it was for my mental health to travel independently until I had to quit flying. So once I kind of made that connection, I try to travel as much as I can, at least twice a year, if not more, just for a day or two, just to recenter.

00:11:26 - 00:11:32 | Speaker 6:

Good for you. Thanks for the call. Wendy, you went pretty far on a single-girl vacation. Where did you go?

00:11:33 - 00:11:38 | Speaker 3:

I went to Hawaii by myself. Oh, wow. Yeah, I had a trip.

00:11:39 - 00:11:40 | Speaker 6:

That's a long way to go.

00:11:42 - 00:11:59 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, with a friend doing a train trip, and they canceled at the last minute. So I went to the travel agency and said, okay, I have a week off in two days. Where can I go? and she found the last seat for a round-trip flight to Hawaii for $383. Boy, meant to be.

00:12:00 - 00:12:08 | Speaker 6:

That's amazing. That's a long way from home if you get lonely or you're away from home. Were you worried at all?

00:12:09 - 00:12:19 | Speaker 3:

Not at all. I had a blast. Actually, it's funny because I was thinking of Megan because I bought a new camera on my vacation so I could take a whole bunch of cool pictures, and when I got back, I returned the camera.

00:12:21 - 00:12:25 | Speaker 1:

Why does that remind you of Megan?

00:12:25 - 00:12:27 | Speaker 6:

She just returns something.

00:12:27 - 00:12:28 | Speaker 1:

Megan has morals.

00:12:28 - 00:12:37 | Speaker 3:

She wouldn't do that. What did you say? Yeah. I said I just want to return something. Oh, okay. Yeah, this story she just told.

00:12:38 - 00:12:42 | Speaker 6:

You went on a Hawaii trip. Michelle, you went on a cruise by yourself?

00:12:45 - 00:12:54 | Speaker 5:

Yes, I did. My husband had passed away, and I needed a change of scenery. and I went on a cruise by myself.

00:12:54 - 00:12:56 | Speaker 6:

Wow. That's amazing.

00:12:56 - 00:13:12 | Speaker 5:

I almost turned around when they take pictures, you know, before you get on the cruise, and I was like, no, no, no, no, no. You've got to keep going. And I had the time of my life.

00:13:13 - 00:13:14 | Speaker 6:

That's great.

00:13:14 - 00:13:23 | Speaker 5:

I met so many wonderful people that I still keep in contact with, and it was one of the best vacations I've ever been on. Sounds like fun.

00:13:24 - 00:13:30 | Speaker 6:

You know what's weird, though? I watched too much Dateline. I couldn't do any of this. I'd be so worried about something bad happening, you know?

00:13:30 - 00:13:31 | Speaker 1:

Can I ask everyone here a question?

00:13:32 - 00:13:32 | Speaker 6:

Go ahead.

00:13:33 - 00:13:41 | Speaker 1:

Do you feel like you have to be comfortable living on your own or doing something like that on your own in order to feel happy with somebody else? I think so. Or having someone around you all the time?

00:13:41 - 00:13:44 | Speaker 3:

I very much believe that. Say that again?

00:13:45 - 00:13:56 | Speaker 1:

I was asking if you felt like you had to do something alone, like beg or live by yourself in order to feel comfortable with living with somebody else. Like, do you have to enjoy your own presence?

00:13:57 - 00:14:04 | Speaker 6:

I think that what Shannon said was true, but I think sometimes you need to have some failures of being by yourself.

00:14:05 - 00:14:05 | Speaker 7:

Right. Yeah.

00:14:05 - 00:14:06 | Speaker 6:

Yeah.

00:14:06 - 00:14:20 | Speaker 7:

I think being alone forces you to truly have a conversation with yourself and understand who you are. Yeah. And I think sometimes we can use other people as a crutch. And then once that person leaves, you have no foundation to stand on because you don't know who you are.

00:14:22 - 00:14:26 | Speaker 6:

Sharon wants to give some advice to you, though, Lydia, for next time. What's that, Sharon?

00:14:27 - 00:14:54 | Speaker 2:

I went on a trip. It wasn't by myself. But the problem was is I checked in by myself and I asked for one key. And I didn't notice people in the lobby at the time. But I swear, with all the human trafficking going on, we had someone knock on our door in the middle of the night. And I think it was just because we asked for one key. I always suggest to everybody, always say two guests. It doesn't up the price in your hotel. And always say two keys because you never know who is in that lobby listening to you.

00:14:54 - 00:14:58 | Speaker 6:

Interesting. That's a really interesting point. I want to go back.

00:14:58 - 00:14:59 | Speaker 2:

Who's job you're key for, you know?

00:15:00 - 00:15:35 | Speaker 5:

Love you guys. We love you too. I want to go back to what Lydia did. I think that is like one of the most amazing things that she spent time and took time with people that a lot of people would not take time with. And then finds out there's a commonality that they listen to the show or that they are right now in the process of finding their own way and finding their own place. That was pretty awesome. And there's so many times we just walk by people and we never realize there could be somebody amazing right there that we could spend time with. That's just like mind-blowing to me.

00:15:35 - 00:15:58 | Speaker 6:

And I don't want this to sound any kind of way, but it's different when someone says, hey, can you get me a meal versus can you get me alcohol or can you get me money? Either way, whatever helps them get their day going by. That's not my business. But if you want to just have a meal with somebody or you're asking for a meal, I think that it's just important to hear each other out. And we're put on this earth by God to help each other.

00:15:58 - 00:16:06 | Speaker 5:

Well, and it's also pretty amazing that instead of just buying the meal or giving them the money, you actually sat with them. We're going to take a break. We'll be right back.
