Okay. Tell me if you guys think that this is a normal thing when you're having a party or get together. What did your cousins do?

So every year we do a family Christmas party where it's just us girls. And I think it's a really cute thing that one of my cousins came up with. But we started it last year and it was about $70 to go to this Christmas party. And I thought, oh, that's okay.

$70 meaning everybody puts in $70 for this thing? Yes.

It's like food and stuff. So admission, yeah. It's like food, plus we do like a Secret Santa and whatnot. Well, this year I got the invite, and unfortunately I couldn't go because I'm doing a lot with Breaking and Entering and Jingle Ball and whatever. And this year it was $150. Excuse me? Yeah, it was $150.

There's one less person.

No, that's not why.

Why? Why did they up the price?

No, they said that there was.

Inflation?

There was a lot going on with inflation, and things were more expensive and costly, which I can understand.

Is this for the family get-together? Yeah. Okay.

That's a wedding. Well, it was at a venue that holds weddings. Oh, wow. It was at Shenandoah.

Is that a common, is this a common thing? Because me and my friends, like if we are getting together for a holiday party, we just all bring a dish. Or people will, you know, say, okay, I got this party, you get next party. Like we never say you owe this much money or this is going to cost this much money.

I think they only charge though because it was at a venue.

Okay.

But I can't see having that big hook. It's like a party covered church?

So we, my family did a Christmas party or we would do one every year at a venue up here in the Detroit area. And I have never once paid to attend. I think all of like, it's, my dad's now the oldest members of our family and like all of his siblings. Does that make sense? He's like the oldest. Okay. And they cover the cost. It doesn't come under.

So it's usually like the parents and stuff. Yeah.

Like whoever is the oldest generation, they split it.

Lydia, what, what, what comes with this one 50?

So you get food, dessert, a DJ, and then I think they give you, like, a little gift at the end.

So the food, is this, like, buffet style, all-you-can-eat vibes, or I'm just getting a little plate?

Last year it was something like that, but I think this year they did, I don't know, I think this year that they did do, like, plates. 150 is crazy. Like, last year I think it was buffet, but this year I think it's plates, and then you get, like, a little cupcake.

If I have to pay 150, I'm eating 150 worth of food.

I'm eating, like I'm eating one, like I'm literally going to eat a lot. I'm not going to eat all day. I'm going to get ready for that. And I'm drinking top shelf. Like I'm not drinking, you know, BS, well wine and whatever the heck it is. That's there.

I know.

Doubling the price is what is taking me out right now.

Is this something that anybody, first off, anybody ever do this? I want to know. I don't know what you guys think. Maybe I'm just from either a different culture or a different generation. I think that this just sounds interesting. Like, if I got that as an invitation, I'd be like, why am I funding the party that you invited me to? Like, why aren't you throwing a party and letting me just come to it? But then again, I'm not Chaldean. I don't know if this is a Chaldean thing. I would think if you go to a Chaldean family party, they're all bougie enough. They don't want everybody to know how much they're spending on it. I don't know. Or is this just because you guys are 20-year-olds?

It was mostly adults.

Yeah, I had a group text that I was on that was sent from a number that I didn't save. And this was around Thanksgiving. And they invited me to a hall for a Friendsgiving, and they had charged.

Somebody you don't even have their number saved. That's a friend I want near me.

I knew other people in the text, but I was like, no.

Hi. So I'm thinking this is part of what my family does. I have a cousin that organizes all the holiday stuff, and he always seems to somehow make money off of it. So he charges us $80 or $90 for something. The real cost is only $50, and he's making money off of it. So once you found that out, I don't talk to that cousin and go to the family functions anymore. So this just smells like someone might be making profit off of it.

so i swear i always i always call when it's uh the chaldean example but italians same way uh not party stores we're all in construction but that is true that was so out of pocket that was great yeah okay but the parties the parties are the same I mean, when you do New Year's Eve parties, let's say, all the families get together, they choose a venue, and however much it is, you put all the costs together and then you split it per ticket.

I mean, when you have communities that big where you'll get maybe, you know, a couple hundred people together. Yeah. When you have families.

What is the venue that you guys choose for yours?

So when we did it, when we were always in California, it would be a different venue every year. Yeah, they do. We do our communions at Palazzo Grande.

That's what I thought. I was like, it was funny because the Chaldeans have Shenandoah. You guys have the Palazzo Grande for that.
