uh you got locked out of your place yeah and i don't really know what happened but i had a feeling this was gonna go on and i i had a feeling because remember the last time we talked about my brother needing to drop off my dog more often he needs to get a set of keys to my house because there are so many locks until you get to my front door which makes me feel super safe but you have to scan a key card three times and then use a key to get into my apartment yep so there's tons of different locks to get into my living space and uh the other day i don't know why and i thought it was the elevator's fault because there's two elevators in my building it didn't work in one of the elevators my card to scan up and I was like it's got to be like a broken elevator I bet it works in the other one bad luck that sucks whatever um and it was last night I didn't get home until like 9 30 10 ish it's starting to get cold outside now and I'm standing outside of my front door and I cannot get into my building my card is not scanning and I am texting my landlord and I don't know what to do and I'm a little bit panicked at this point uh because it's so late at night I'm like I have to wait for somebody to either come in or come out and who's coming in or out of the building at 9 30 at night it's just not happening that regularly and it's cold outside and I'm standing holding all of my bags from the day and uh this kind of turns into a bit of an am I the a-hole situation? Because there is a keypad outside of my front door where you can call up to units and broadcast into their apartments. Oh. And I may or may not have started dialing random apartments trying to get somebody to let me into the building.

I would kill you.

What was I going to do? It was 46 degrees outside. I checked the weather app. I was freezing cold and it was getting late. Yeah. What was I going to do?

Okay, so here's what I did. I know which apartment is mine, right? And so I was like, well, the lights are on in the living room and the one two above me, so it must be this unit number. Called them, nobody answered. Then I was like, if I had to guess other unit numbers, who else has their lights on right now? Because most of the units were dark. People are sleeping.

I checked it this morning. And I have to say, I have the best management for my building. They truly are the best. I can text them. I got responses rather quickly. But they tried to reset my card. They thought that was the issue. And it doesn't work now on any of the scanning. So I currently don't have a way to get in my building.

Getting locked out sucks. especially now because you've got anxiety of when you go home, how are you going to get in? Yeah. You've got to go figure it out. But getting locked out of your house stinks. But when you're in a place like you are in an urban setting, like where it's a city-like thing, and you don't know your neighbors where you can leave a key with a neighbor or something like that, those cards, I've had that happen to me when I've stayed at hotels. That's why you always got to get two cards. Where the card erased, and I'm trying to get into the room, and I can't, and I've got to go all the way downstairs to go get another card. uh yeah um we were my baby was a week old and we went out to get stuff out of the car and my apartment door locked and the keys were inside with my baby and i called the maintenance and they're like oh it's gonna take an hour to get there i'm freaking out on this dude and my husband just finally just uh there was the door where the doorknob is you can't stick like a card in there because he was, like, anti-theft. And he literally punched the door open. Oh, my God.

The newborn baby's in there. Yeah. You do whatever it takes. Yeah. My heart was pounding. I bet it was.

At that point right there, I'd rather have to repair or replace the door than have my baby hurt themselves.

so i first of all first time long time so i um when i was in um school i was at college i got locked out of my house um locked my keys my house keys and my car keys in my house in the winter time. And I had to sit in my garage for a couple of hours because my dad had a key to my house. He was an hour away and my younger sister had a basketball game that night. So I sat in my garage in the winter time without a coat for probably three hours, four hours.

melissa hey good morning my wife and i were on our honeymoon and we got locked out of our hotel room and we thought the key card needed to be replaced so we just went to the front desk but then it turned out that it was the actual door the thing on the door had to have the battery changed That just happened to us and I. Come out and replace everything. So we were locked out of our hotel room for a couple hours. Yeah.

Those are battery average? They're battery average. And they actually put a new one on ours, and then that one was bad. So they had to put another one on. So we couldn't go in our hotel room for a couple of hours. So I did get 20,000 Marriott points, which was great.

Hey, so it happened twice to me. The first time that it happened to me, I was locked out of my house. I was trying to get to work, but my keys are also, like, my key fob is also on my keys. So it's in the house. I'm like, oh, I can't go anywhere. I can't do anything. So I found out that, like, one of the back windows of my house was, like, unlocked. But I'm kind of short. I'm, like, 5'1". So I'm like, okay, what do I do? I stood on.

a grill and the grill was pretty wobbly and i'm trying to get into the window but the time before that i actually had my neighbor hop on a dumpster she was really tall she hopped on a dumpster and hopped in like the tiniest window to get in and open the door for me it was a crazy experience

wow so i because i always wondered about the people that get locked out but have like a window open upstairs like how do they they climb up there or you like jumped on top of your grill to get in

Yeah, like it was in the kitchen. So, like, it's a little far off the ground to get to the kitchen or, like, the back room. So it's like we had to step on something. And me being shorter, I definitely have to step on something.

And this is one of those things, like, Megan did talk about how she was trying to get her brother a key so she didn't have to go let him in. I think this is where apartments got to give you, like, two of those key fob things without charging you. I know they want to charge you because they think you got an extra roommate in there and you're, you know, renting a room or something out.

I don't like people. Like, how do you convey that to the front office? Like, if I had a roommate, I would be miserable.

Yeah. I got left out of my apartment for, like, two and a half hours. Jeez.

Was it summertime or wintertime?

No, it was winter. And my friends and I had all gone to the hot tub and gotten very drunk. And we left our phones and keys in the apartment. So we were like, oh, no, what do we do? Because, of course, we went barefoot to the hot tub because we were drunk. So we had to knock on a neighbor's door to call the maintenance, and then they couldn't find us.

Oh, jeez. So you had to do what Megan did, although Megan did it through the intercom. You had to basically just see if some rando person will answer the door for you.

Oh, yeah. And then I could never face my neighbors again because they were like, oh, it's a drunk girl.

Well, that's the thing. Megan's going to become notorious if she's the person that's ringing the bell of everybody. And I can't believe not one person, Megan, was there to let you in or do anything to help you out.

I truly think my building is filled with people just like me. We're all a little bit old. I think a lot of people are like, I'm not getting up right now. I'm laying down in bed. My TV is on. My teeth are brushed.

Would this change you if you had somebody do this for you? Like if you were home and the opposite, somebody was outside, would you do this now knowing that this happened?
