When Democrats are messing up, I say it. When Republicans are messing up, I say it. I'm Essie Kupp, a journalist and political commentator. And on my podcast, Off the Cup, I help you make sense of the often nonsensical news. I do this on cable news too, but on my podcast, I can really let loose and be my honest, unfiltered self. I just want to talk about something that happened this week because it's so bonkers, so stupid, such incredibly bad politics. We have to talk about it. Come for the hot takes, stay for the sanity. Listen to Off the Cup on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.

00:01:07 - 00:01:11 | Speaker 6:

Hey, Mom, now that I have an after-school job, I think I want to buy a drum kit.

00:01:11 - 00:01:18 | Speaker 2:

Okay, Rockstar. Let's look at your account. When kids start making money, Chase has easy-to-use tools and expert bankers to help them learn how to manage it.

00:01:19 - 00:01:24 | Speaker 6:

And next month, I'll buy the bass drum and the cymbals. Oh, and maybe some noise-canceling headphones for you.

00:01:24 - 00:01:33 | Speaker 2:

Aw, you've thought of everything. Help kids save, budget, and build financial independence all with Chase. That's good for kids and good for parents. Visit your local Chase branch and get started.

00:01:34 - 00:01:37 | Speaker 7:

Account subject to approval. JPMorgan Chase Bank and a member FDIC.

00:01:37 - 00:01:38 | Speaker 2:

Rise and shine.

00:01:43 - 00:02:16 | Speaker 7:

Here we go. Welcome to the Mojo, the Mojo in the Morning Show. Super Bowl weekend on Mojo in the Morning Show. I don't care about either team, but it's Mojo in the Morning Show. I'm going to eat my face off. Mojo in the Morning Show. Did Megan make it in today? Because I was worried after I saw the post on Instagram yesterday. Is that right, Megan? Your basement's flooded?

00:02:17 - 00:02:23 | Speaker 4:

Only a few tears were shed in the past 24 hours. And by a few, I mean, I think I flooded my basement a second time.

00:02:24 - 00:02:30 | Speaker 7:

Oh, no. Is it because of the weather and the rain and everything, or what was it?

00:02:30 - 00:02:38 | Speaker 4:

You guys, if I could explain to you the insane day that I had yesterday, it was downhill from about 7 in the morning.

00:02:39 - 00:02:44 | Speaker 7:

Wait, you at least gave yourself a couple of hours in the morning to say that it was good.

00:02:44 - 00:02:56 | Speaker 4:

We had a good start, and then Shannon knows about halfway through the show, I started having a meltdown because I was convinced I was getting fired yesterday. Yeah. It was bad. It was really bad. You didn't tell me that. I talked her out of that.

00:02:56 - 00:02:58 | Speaker 7:

What made you convinced that you were getting fired?

00:02:59 - 00:03:24 | Speaker 4:

We had our big bosses in town unannounced before all of management showed up yesterday, which was very exciting. Let me tell you, I was thrilled about that. And then Tony had a meeting in Detroit that I was not invited to. And then when I followed up with him, I was not invited again, just making sure that I wasn't supposed to be in it. So I was like, oh, the big bosses are in town and I'm not invited to the morning show meeting. No, you know what it was. They're getting rid of me after the show.

00:03:24 - 00:03:44 | Speaker 7:

No, no, no, no, no. That happens today. No. Actually, there was no virtual. I liked how Tony did that. It was like, you know what? He just wanted to have people come in, and they didn't do any of the team's virtual thing, which is what we complained about yesterday. You guys had a meeting yesterday? We did. It was just for the Detroit staff.

00:03:44 - 00:03:49 | Speaker 4:

Yeah, so redheaded stepchildren were excluded from that, which is good to know. I don't like that. Good to know. I love having-

00:03:49 - 00:03:55 | Speaker 7:

It actually, believe it or not, was a very productive meeting, and it was, you guys were sorely missed.

00:03:55 - 00:03:58 | Speaker 4:

I can't wait to be out of the loop on important things. Thank you. But wait a second.

00:03:58 - 00:04:01 | Speaker 7:

More importantly than this, your house flooded.

00:04:02 - 00:04:06 | Speaker 4:

Wait, but I'm getting there. All right? We got to start from TAC. It was a long day.

00:04:06 - 00:04:10 | Speaker 6:

Okay. So 7 a.m. she ran out of Red Bull. Then she almost got fired.

00:04:11 - 00:04:13 | Speaker 7:

Remember how energetic she was yesterday? Yeah. Go ahead.

00:04:13 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 4:

I had three salespeople yesterday. Yesterday was the first day, and I'm not kidding you, a month and a half. I didn't bring my makeup, I didn't bring my curling iron, I had greasy hair, I was in sweats, and I didn't have anything going on. Three salespeople showed up with clients to have me do social posts. I'm livid. I'm mad at this point. So angry. No heads up, no nothing. I'm on my way home. I'm calling my brother. I'm frustrated. I'm like, hey, do you need anything on my way home? And he said, probably some buckets. The basement is flooded. Okay, love that. I'm trying to get details from him and he's just like I don't know Megan it's a lot and hung up on me so that was what I was going home to get home I'm in my driveway my entire street my entire like section of my neighborhood

00:05:00 - 00:05:38 | Speaker 6:

is underwater uh to the mayor wade capsicabage hi talking to you we need to discuss some things this ain't working for me fam this is not working you gotta stop ignoring my neighborhood we need help desperately my entire street is underwater so uh essentially the city i'm not kidding you i felt like a real member of toledo yesterday because i signed up for the city app to report problems i raised a stink yesterday and i'm not done today boy i'm gonna show up to the offices i swear to god if i don't hear back i'm gonna be knocking on some doors okay living do you want

00:05:38 - 00:05:46 | Speaker 1:

this in your office take care of these problems i can't take no more so if you're wondering here

00:05:46 - 00:06:21 | Speaker 6:

i gotta pull up the app please if you live in the city of toledo download the engage toledo app and start filing some reports because i need some stuff getting done um so i'm i'm calling offices i'm sending in photographs i'm emailing i'm i'm signed up i start posting in the neighborhood facebook groups please report these issues we got to get a member of the city out here because the city keeps saying i think it's a you problem and the 17 houses that are flooded are like we think it's a you problem are you lying you fool exactly and uh i got she wasn't fired

00:06:21 - 00:06:26 | Speaker 1:

yesterday. Could you imagine her being unemployed and having time on her hands and being this angry?

00:06:26 - 00:06:42 | Speaker 6:

I got gaslit by the city of Toledo yesterday and I'm not here for it. Then, on top of this, I'm eating my feelings, right? It's going to be a bad night. It was a bad day. I'm eating my feelings. We go out, we get pad thai. That is 1,000% the spiciest food I've ever had in my life. I'm crying.

00:06:42 - 00:06:44 | Speaker 3:

And now you're swollen from the sodium.

00:06:44 - 00:07:12 | Speaker 6:

I'm sweating. I'm crying. I'm laughing because I don't know how miserable it gets. I can't eat it. So I decided, you know what? I'm going to door dash another meal. What can I not have? Cheese. I can't have cheese, guys. My body does not agree. I ordered a burger. What comes on it? A whopping amount of cheese. I started hysterically crying. I threw my sandwich, I'm not kidding you, like a toddler, onto the ground and stormed up to bed and said, I'm done with today. Girl, you must get toe up.

00:07:12 - 00:07:16 | Speaker 3:

Wow. Wow. Nikki, you experienced the same thing?

00:07:17 - 00:07:26 | Speaker 7:

Yes. So I live in Perrysburg, and my basement flooded yesterday as well. It's still flooded now because I'm waiting for the drain guy to come.

00:07:26 - 00:07:28 | Speaker 3:

Oh, man.

00:07:28 - 00:07:28 | Speaker 7:

Yeah.

00:07:29 - 00:07:35 | Speaker 3:

You know what? And it was a lot of rain in a short period of time, but then it's all the snow melting, too, that was the problem.

00:07:35 - 00:07:52 | Speaker 7:

And usually every other year I have a guy come out and make the drain roots out. But I usually do it, like, in mid-March when things start to sob. but Punxsutawney Phil was wrong. Coming from a guy that lived by a river,

00:07:52 - 00:07:58 | Speaker 5:

I'll tell you, if you tell everybody there is a pool in your basement, it makes your place sound much cooler.

00:07:59 - 00:08:00 | Speaker 3:

It's a good sales pitch.

00:08:00 - 00:08:04 | Speaker 7:

They'll come over and see what the water looks like. It's like the Mommy River.

00:08:05 - 00:08:07 | Speaker 3:

Megan, we all know for Valentine's Day we're getting you a shop vac.

00:08:08 - 00:08:11 | Speaker 6:

Well, I have a shop vac. It was full of water last night.

00:08:12 - 00:08:13 | Speaker 3:

The worst.

00:08:13 - 00:08:19 | Speaker 6:

It was a very relaxing, nonchalant, no big things happening Thursday for me.

00:08:19 - 00:08:24 | Speaker 3:

Real quick, Megan, the boss wants to meet with you after the show today. That's honestly not funny.

00:08:24 - 00:08:25 | Speaker 6:

Don't do that to her.

00:08:26 - 00:08:28 | Speaker 1:

I literally had to talk her off a ledge, okay?

00:08:28 - 00:08:33 | Speaker 6:

I was like, you don't understand, Shannon. There's all these things going on today. Nobody's telling you what's going on. You were sending me screenshots.

00:08:34 - 00:08:35 | Speaker 5:

I'm like, I don't even know what she's talking about.

00:08:37 - 00:08:37 | Speaker 6:

I know.

00:08:38 - 00:08:44 | Speaker 5:

I do. So I want to apologize for this in advance, but your house, you don't need to go see the Titanic because it's like the Titanic.

00:08:46 - 00:09:13 | Speaker 4:

I heard you built a new deck?

00:09:57 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 3:

Ever since our decorator's deck was finished, Saturday's...

00:10:00 - 00:10:09 | Speaker 1:

are full of surprises. I brought a deckwarming gift. People keep showing up asking to see the new deck. Is it true the whole thing

00:10:09 - 00:10:10 | Speaker 3:

is from decorators?

00:10:10 - 00:10:13 | Speaker 1:

Weekend afternoons might as well be an open house with guided tours.

00:10:14 - 00:10:23 | Speaker 3:

When you build with decorators, the neighbors will notice. Decorators. Stand out. Visit decorators.com to learn more. That's decorators with a K.
