I would say Bishop State's like a home for people. It may not be like a four-year where you have a dorm, you have a roommate, you have a rec center, but it's still a place you can go meet new people, classmates, put in the hallway, make friends with advisors on all these teachers and everything like that. It's just a place you can feel like yourself and not try to be the thing you don't want to be. With this program, I learned networking a lot. We've had two dinners with heads of different companies dealing with shipping or even game design builds, dealing with AutoCAD or 3D modeling. So really being able to meet new people or meet heads of new people has been really helpful. I don't come from a wealthy family, so four years were kind of not out of the picture, but less probable for me to go to. Bishop State, with my scholarship, it cut my price in half and made it way easier for me to go to school for the same 12 credits I would go for a four-year.

It's Mojo in the Morning Show. So, you know, this is actually a great segue to go to something that happened to Megan last week that to me is just really special. We just got done having teachers helping another fellow school, you know, teacher and lunch lady and room mom and all this stuff. Megan had a moment happen that I think is one of the coolest things ever. Megan, go ahead. I'm going to let you just take it.

i'm so grateful for this job sometimes because it leads to just unique opportunities that i don't think i normally would have and um i said something on the air the other day and i was wrong

shocker um can we can we just live by that moment i got northview and southview mixed up for

somebody we were talking about on the show and i said they went to southview and they went to northview and i know that because this person texted in said actually they went to north which Which is, by the way, the two competing high schools of the town I grew up in.

No matter what it is you're wrong about, we like to call out when you're wrong sometimes.

This is your moment. Have it, okay? So I get a text that was from a teacher from Northview and said, actually, they went to Northview because I was his teacher. And I was like, oh, that's so interesting. I went to Northview. Were you my teacher? And we started going back and forth. And I find out that the person that I have been texting with throughout the morning, which, by the way, please text into the show. I absolutely love it. Was one of the most influential teachers I had had in my life that I never got the opportunity to tell. And so throughout the course of this conversation, I'm realizing like the special opportunity I had to be like, this is the impact you've made on my life. and my my brother still knows this teacher's name because he'll talk about oh yeah that that class you took that you really enjoy I took classes in college based off of the importance of what this teacher showed me so it was a photography class she did photography photojournalism writing um she was in charge of um the newspaper and the yearbook there but we had a dark room at Northview that was really cool and she inspired a lot of just like creativity and drive and she like never really gave requirements for assignments because she just wanted us to explore and create and just huge impact I took a lot of art classes in college because of how much I enjoyed her class and I was finally I'm not going to tell you how many years later able to tell her Miss Huey was her name when I had her I'm not sure what her name is now and she told me and I forget I'm so sorry but the impact she had on my life and i just feel like sometimes we don't reach out to those special people and say

hey, you were really important to me. I'm really glad I had that opportunity. That's great. That's amazing, Megan. Yeah, no, yeah.

I got a feeling, and you tell me if I'm wrong on this or right on this, that you needed that. You really needed that moment.

Yes, and it made me feel a little bit regretful that it took this long to get here. But like, man, don't miss those opportunities. I don't think we tell people enough

how much we appreciate them is oh it's as good good for you and you made it through without like

completely balling the tears have not fallen they're still just on my i got them i see them there no the foundation is expensive here um can i thank you can i ask uh can i ask you just a

couple of questions and i'd also like to ask the listeners have you ever had this moment or do you want to have that moment where there's somebody that really impacted your life that you never got a chance to ever tell how much they impacted your life maybe tell on the radio and maybe there's somebody listening that could share it with them but um we you were going through a tough time family wise and stuff at that time my life was a mess mom and dad i know that were it was a

bad situation with that yeah and i talk about all the schools that i went to for a really long time I'm like, I had moved to Northview to live with my dad. And so it was like a, I loved my first high school. I started out at St. Ursula and I loved it there. Loved it so much. But I left so that I could live with my dad. Oh my God, this is so stupid. This is supposed to be a fun topic about appreciating people. anyways life was rocky i didn't have a lot of teachers that understood what was going on maybe they knew but they didn't really like understand and i had a lot of um freedom there it was fun and i didn't have a lot of fun in my life this is so stupid i didn't want to do this i hate crying on the show this is so stupid this is supposed to be nice I mean, don't hide your emotion, man. No, I don't. This is so not what I wanted to do.

I know. Well, you know what, though?

We shouldn't have done breaking and entering first. I was emotionally unstable to begin with. Forget the mascara. Blow your nose.

You're as tough as she is. Megan, I love that you're doing this because I think there's a lot of times where people have somebody that's in their life or comes to their life, and that person just thinks that they're just the teacher that taught them photography. When in real life you taught Megan a lot more than photography.

I think this is also such a good whatever your name is now. This is also such a good reminder to Lucy and I just had a conversation about this this weekend. If you have something that is on your heart about somebody that you want to share whether it's just a simple compliment or it's something like this I'm like God, I told her God put that on your heart to share like you are supposed to tell them. So this I love this topic because if there is someone in your life that is your Miss Huey, tell them today.

Well, I try to teach so many life skills, I guess.

Can I ask you, Miss Huey, when you hear this, you think your day is just going to school and teaching kids. You understand that you're changing lives. Did you know that?

Well, I mean, as teachers, we try to think we're doing that. But sometimes I guess we forget as we get bogged down with our daily lives. But when we hear things like this, you know, it re-inspires us and makes us feel so happy. So hearing that was just, it just warms the heart so much. Thank you. And thanks for sticking with me. It's really been a huge pleasure. It's been such a fun time listening to her all these years.

Tell us, to make this a lighter moment, how much of a pain in the ass was she at times?

I do not remember her that way.

She was the only teacher that ever believed in me, and I grew up to, well, I was a truck driver, and now I'm going to be an ice cream man, man. I'm starting my own ice cream. Oh, that's great, dude. Like, you changed my life, and you don't even know it.

and he and you're in one of the worst times of your life at that moment too and it makes such

a huge impact when you go home and things are like a battleground and you go to school and you know high school sucks let's be honest it's super stressful oh yeah and you just have one

adult that's like chill and willing to listen yeah game changer oh listen yeah keep you from

it's the worst times ever, right? You're going through puberty at first, and then you're going through, you know, the struggles of kids that make you feel like you're weird and your families may be fighting and all this stuff. And it takes a person who at the beginning of the year is a complete stranger. And at the end of the year becomes your mentor for life. Teaching is awesome. We need more people that go to that profession because look what you do. You change lives. I love to hear stories like these um share more with us i'm going to make sure that this podcast gets up so that everybody can hear it and if we got more lydia feel free to you know put them through and um let's not forget that sometimes you know things go unsaid that really truly will make another person realize how special they are yeah absolutely yeah tell them call them up um can I talk about the teachers I didn't like?
