21 plus. This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say. My name is Patrick Pettway, and I am getting

00:01:10 - 00:01:52 | Speaker 1:

my Associates of Science and General Education with an emphasis in business administration. To me, it was a no-brainer. When you go out here and you're looking for funding to go back to college as a 40-year-old man, I got six people in my household. The extra money just doesn't just grow out of trees for me to be able to be accepted through fafsa and to have bishop state paid for all of my tuition not only that but the curriculums you know they make it so easy to understand on their website like i said i'm a 40 year old man so i don't use technology too much but it was very understandable where i needed to go it was extremely fast these past two years things have just moved in a total different type of way it's like its own moving entity to see things manifest the way that they do.

It's Mojo in the Morning show. Megan has something big that she wants to talk about here on the air. And I want everybody to take a listen to this and then I want you to either give her a little bit of advice or maybe even tell us what you would want to do if you could do it to yourself but Megan what's happening I'm in a very interesting spot right now

00:02:29 - 00:03:22 | Speaker 4:

in my life and specifically this like weight loss journey that I'm on and I'm in a position where I'm not how do I want to phrase this I've worked really really hard to get to where I am right now and I'm just so unhappy with the way that I look and I started having this conversation with some people who are really close to me in my life about, I am starting to make appointments for a lot of plastic surgery appointments for next year or procedures for next year, I guess is how I should say it. And I'm getting to the point where I'm very terrified to go through with something like this, but I'm also very aware of the fact that I'm not going to be happy until I do it but i also know that it's a really really big deal and it's a really big procedure can i

00:03:22 - 00:03:51 | Speaker 5:

ask a couple of questions yeah of course um it's not like you're you know oh my god i just lost all this weight now i'm gonna go get myself some you know quadruple d's or something like no god no actually quite the opposite it's it's actually that there's uh there's some things that when you lose weight you don't realize oh man i've lost weight i look you know you look great in clothes so to speak and then you go oh my god there's some excess stuff there that you want to get rid of

00:03:51 - 00:04:12 | Speaker 4:

yeah i don't think people realize how uncomfortable i am in clothes because i'm wearing so many undergarments to try to pick up everything that is just now loose and wiggly um and not where i want it to be specifically my boobs um so no i'm looking to have like major reconstruction like

00:04:12 - 00:04:25 | Speaker 3:

reconstructive surgery yeah are you is it are you doing um everything at one time are you doing like separate and forgive me if i'm being too invasive with the question no i i'm very open

00:04:25 - 00:04:52 | Speaker 4:

about what i want to have done um three of the surgeries that i want to have done will all be done at the same time i'm i wish that would make my life a lot easier because i'm gonna have to hire a caregiver afterwards so um i'm going to need to hire somebody to come and shower me and stuff like that which is probably the most intimate thing i will ever have to do and is honestly the most embarrassing part about all of this uh but you got a couple listeners that may

00:04:52 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 8:

yeah squirrel no it's poor squirrels girlfriend

00:05:00 - 00:05:22 | Speaker 3:

Um, and then I'm guessing the other one because it will be facial reconstruction will have to be later. So most of it. Your face? Your face. So, your face is perfect. I agree. There's one thing that's really bothering me and it was the weirdest part about losing weight is that my eyelids have become so droopy that I have gotten weird. That's actually a very popular surgery. Yeah. And that's a very minor surgery.

00:05:22 - 00:05:22 | Speaker 1:

Eyelid surgery?

00:05:22 - 00:05:37 | Speaker 3:

Yeah. So I don't want to brow lift and what they can do is just remove a little bit of your eyelid and then like resew it together and make it smaller again because my eyes have drooped so far down yeah that's a popular one so literally that will i'll just probably come in the next day

00:05:37 - 00:06:12 | Speaker 2:

and wear sunglasses for a couple of weeks around here it's wild because you know this is a this is big for you because this is part of that journey but it's you and i had this conversation where we talked about losing weight but yet still looking at yourself in the mirror and you still see somebody that you're not happy with and a lot of cases it has to do with now your body is completely changed when you're when when you are at a level where you're heavier your face fills out yep and you kind of look like oh wow i actually you know my face when you're when you lose the weight your face kind of concaves a little bit and then things get droopy and things

00:06:12 - 00:06:24 | Speaker 3:

yeah and then your belly same situation yeah yeah and the crazy part to me is everybody's like oh my god you're so happy and they don't realize that i have never felt worse about the way that

00:06:24 - 00:06:28 | Speaker 2:

i've looked wow that's amazing because it's so funny everybody's telling you how gorgeous you

00:06:28 - 00:06:44 | Speaker 3:

are and you are which i i so appreciate and it's so kind to hear but it's truly like the most debilitating thing right now to be like everybody's like are you gonna date again are you gonna do this that and the other thing and i said no because i i truly have never felt worse about

00:06:44 - 00:07:06 | Speaker 2:

my body and it's something you know it's it's interesting uh megan because susan are you there susan i am here one of the one of the things real quick before you talk but one of the things that megan's talking about for anybody that thinks that this is for vanity it's not it's also for your health and you are going to talk about that right now with you go ahead susan absolutely

00:07:06 - 00:07:19 | Speaker 1:

first of all megan you're gorgeous but um i want to talk about breast reduction because i just had one i mean just very very recently just one breast no both okay all right because i was

00:07:19 - 00:07:24 | Speaker 2:

gonna say that i did now do you get do you get a discount if you just do one of breast reduction

00:07:24 - 00:08:24 | Speaker 1:

yeah you do a real big discount but they want to know if that you do your left or right i had to have a i've thought about it for years and i had to have a lumpectomy so with it they will do a breast reduction to make you even and i had the breast reduction done i went from an h to a d and megan i cannot tell you how thrilled i am it's not that bad i mean the you know the healing process is not that bad i was up and went to not very cautiously but went to a an open house two days later but it makes you feel so great and the only reason i know i'm at a d is because i just got measured this past weekend i think you know i can walk around my back feels better um i i look better i'm able to button up shirts without the gap in the front um you know i know i i know what you're going through that's something i cannot spend a gazillion

00:08:24 - 00:08:29 | Speaker 3:

dollars on bras that have to be a special size i mean your health exactly it's it's amazing it's

00:08:29 - 00:08:44 | Speaker 2:

you know obviously you're you know you're get you're losing weight because you're getting you know healthier and that's the goal is to live longer right but then you're also talking about your your body health of your back and you know your joints and everything like that

00:08:44 - 00:08:55 | Speaker 1:

after the fact like i yeah i called it yeah i called in not too long ago and said um i forget what the topic was but where my son asked what those things on my stomach were and they were my

00:08:55 - 00:09:02 | Speaker 3:

Oh, yeah, it was when Smith told me that my cheeks were sagging, which, yeah, I think they'll do something with you.

00:09:02 - 00:09:06 | Speaker 2:

And now they're no longer on your stomach, Susan. That's awesome.

00:09:06 - 00:09:08 | Speaker 1:

I'm not there anymore. Good for you. Yeah, that's awesome.

00:09:08 - 00:09:09 | Speaker 2:

Did you go to somebody good?

00:09:10 - 00:09:28 | Speaker 1:

I did go to somebody good, and if Megan wants to talk to me, I'd be happy to talk to her, but I did go to somebody very good. Okay. He wouldn't go, he would only do what looked good on my body. He wouldn't, you know, do a side, you know, like I didn't say, hey, I want this side. But he said, I will take you down as much as I can that makes you look good.

00:09:28 - 00:09:31 | Speaker 2:

Wow. Hang on and talk to us and give us your phone.

00:09:31 - 00:09:33 | Speaker 3:

That's a good doctor, by the way. Yeah. Yep.

00:09:35 - 00:09:59 | Speaker 2:

Claire, what's up? It's Mojo in the morning. Megan is talking about how next year might be the year that she goes and takes care of some other stuff. What's going on? Yeah. Your voice is, guys, by the way. Yes, yes. I ended up wanting a bigger test, but I didn't want to do implants, so I went for a fat transfer breath augmentation, so they lipo fat from one.

00:10:00 - 00:10:42 | Speaker 1:

part of your body and my back was unproportionately large to my body so they did that and put it on my chest and to be honest it has such minimal results that it now that i'm healed it almost like wasn't worth it but the side of that is that i ended up being so happy with the lipo on my back it changed my life and even though i knew i probably wouldn't have a huge dramatic change it wouldn't totally change my life and make me happy i'm just so proud that i did something to make myself feel better and i took that step to do it so in the end whether i had a much larger chest or not or whatever i was happy overall and i think that is what makes you happy just know it's not going to change your life and make everything better but you will feel stronger

00:10:42 - 00:12:11 | Speaker 4:

and more confident let me tell you what i'm most afraid of by doing this and i wonder claire if agree with this is that I get so much criticism and critiques from strangers and just unsolicited opinions on my body before I lost the weight, my body now that I've lost the weight, how people think that I've done it, whether it was safe or not. Like the constant unnecessary feedback can be quite overwhelming that the only thing I'm worried about is that if I go through with this and I do all of this that I will never hear the end about how was she just paid for this or it was the plastic surgery or she's setting a poor example for others or whatever it is I that's truly it where I am right now where I don't think I could cope with the feedback which is why I'm trying to talk about it now so if I decide to go through with it I can which you should thank you because you've been talking about it for a very long time that people know that this was a process Because the one thing that I get all of the time is, this must be so unhealthy, she's done it so quickly, yada, yada, yada. People don't know I'm nearly a year and a half, I'm like approaching the two-year mark on this journey. Nobody noticed for the longest time. And I just, I don't think that mentally right now I can handle the feedback from others if I decide to go through with it.

00:12:11 - 00:13:15 | Speaker 2:

I think you have to talk because it's something that you have to deal with with probably your great therapist. But you have to talk to your therapist and talk about that. And then he's got to figure out a way to give you the confidence to say, who cares what other people are saying? And I know that you hear the noise and you do care. But there's got to be somewhat of a way because you're always going to have that. And people are always going to comment on things that, honestly, nobody asked them. for their comments and unfortunately you're in a position where people see you and know you and you know your vote you're very vocal um you know with your life and there comes a point where it's almost kind of like you got to do it for you you don't do it for you don't do it for anybody else and you don't do it to not hear from anybody else yeah it just um feels like it doesn't matter what i do it's never good enough well good enough for what for you or for the audience for uh other

00:13:15 - 00:13:38 | Speaker 4:

people it was not good enough that i gained the weight in the first place it was not good enough that i lost it because people are making assumptions and they're never correct um not good enough for just being happy with the way that i look now not it's just a constant feed of i'm not good enough from people that i literally receive on a daily basis

00:13:38 - 00:13:39 | Speaker 2:

That's what you got to talk to him about.

00:13:40 - 00:13:50 | Speaker 4:

No, I constantly talk to him about that. That's truly why I started going to therapy was because I felt so worthless because people tell me that every day.

00:13:50 - 00:13:53 | Speaker 2:

I think sometimes you just got to surround yourself around the good enough people.

00:13:54 - 00:14:18 | Speaker 3:

Yeah, no, I, yes. Like, those, my therapist made me do, like, the, did your therapist make you do the circles, Mojo, with, like, you in the middle, and then your closest family. and then your friends and then goes out and she was like worry about the two circles that are closest to you that's it everybody else guess what you can say whatever the heck you want but you're worried about those you know those people that are closest to you

00:14:18 - 00:14:43 | Speaker 2:

and honestly I believe that there are some people that are good at putting the noise out of their head you know there's somebody and I got I think that those people are amazing I think I have gotten better at that but I don't know I i megan i think you know you have talked about doing this for the longest time i think that your intentions of doing it are the right intentions for you and everybody else

00:14:43 - 00:14:51 | Speaker 4:

can go f themselves yeah you're also right it's much easier said than done yeah um but i will say

00:14:51 - 00:14:59 | Speaker 2:

this to you though when you do do it i do really think that you could help others by talking to them about your

00:15:00 - 00:15:05 | Speaker 6:

feelings about how it's changed you because I know you say that you haven't you've lost weight

00:15:05 - 00:15:18 | Speaker 3:

but you don't feel good about it I see a different Megan than I've seen oh me too but again I think that was more therapy than weight loss because I've done nothing but become more jaded towards

00:15:18 - 00:15:29 | Speaker 6:

people since losing the weight I know that you it's obviously how you feel about it but man it seems like ever since there's like a strut in your stuff man that that's great and that is that more

00:15:29 - 00:15:41 | Speaker 5:

to Megan, is that more mindset change than physical change? For sure. That's what I'm saying. That's why no matter how much weight you lose, unless you lose the mental weight that you've been carrying around, it's always going to be something to your point.

00:15:41 - 00:15:49 | Speaker 6:

And I also believe that, honestly, weight is very much so more emotional than it is even the physical act of putting food in your

00:15:49 - 00:16:17 | Speaker 5:

mouth. And when you talk about living your past and your whole life, the past is meant to be, sometimes I can look at it when I have my, you know, my focused dies. It was like the past is a school, but oftentimes we allow it to become a prison where you have life. In a school, there's an expiration date, hopefully, unless you fail a bunch of times. But you're inevitably going to get out. But so oftentimes, we stay locked in behind those walls. Yeah,

00:16:17 - 00:16:19 | Speaker 6:

that's well put. I love the texter

00:16:19 - 00:16:23 | Speaker 4:

that said, instead of saying, F them babies, Megan, you need to say, F them haters!

00:16:26 - 00:16:35 | Speaker 2:

This is the Bishop Statement at Bishop State Community College. We want you to hear what our students, educators, and business leaders have to say.

00:17:55 - 00:18:42 | Speaker 1:

My name is Natarika Terry LaMille, and my major is general education. Some of the obstacles I have overcame at Bishop State is proving that I can show up consistently, even when my life was heavy. There are moments where I still feel overwhelmed by balancing work, leadership, parenting, and school, but Bishop reminded me that I'm capable of growth and not perfection, that I'm supported as long as I'm committed to being a better person than I was yesterday. My peers can depend on me. I'm there being poured into, but some of those students don't know that the faculty and staff are really there for them. So when they don't know that, I'm that resource that explain and show them that they're here to help us. Ready to make your own Bishop Statement?
