My name is Patrick Pettway, and I am getting my Associates of Science and General Education with an emphasis in business administration. To me, it was a no-brainer. When you go out here and you're looking for funding to go back to college as a 40-year-old man, I got six people in my household. The extra money just doesn't just grow out of trees. for me to be able to be accepted through FAFSA and to have Bishop State pay for all of my tuition. Not only that, but the curriculums, you know, they make it so easy to understand on their website. Like I said, I'm a 40-year-old man, so I don't use technology too much, but it was very understandable where I needed to go. It was extremely fast. These past two years, things have just moved in a total different type of way. It's like its own moving entity to see things manifest the way that they do.

All right, it is Mojo in the morning. I did not know this until we had our pre-show meeting and we were going over our topics for today. Megan is doing drag this weekend?

This weekend at Hamburger Mary's in downtown Toledo on Saturday. I'm so excited about this. This is not my first time doing drag, but it's been my first time in a long time doing drag.

What do you mean you're doing drag? Yeah, explain that.

Like I'm having somebody put me in drag. There's all different types of drag. There's fem drag.

Explain the types of drags. I don't know drag.

Fem drag is like when a person, I want to be very specific because I understand that this is a very important part of queer culture. So if it's a person who is born a female and identifies as female, you can do fem drag where it's still putting on drag, but you identify as a woman. Which is what you're doing. Correct. Which is what, like, and then there are drag kings, which are women who dress up as men. there are drag queens that are you know most of the time men who dress up as women and there's like we can splinter this down into like 100 different factions is there drag where if you're

a woman you dress as a dude yeah drag kings that's what it is okay so question for you if you are you which one are you you're dressing this weekend i'm doing femme drag so i'm dressing

up as well mostly women i don't want to spoil the surprise one is not in fact a person oh you wait

so question for you when you do this because I did drag once for a promotional thing back in the day Spike and I did a drag thing together and I gotta be quite honest with you I thought that actually I thought he was more attractive than I was but I thought I was very attractive what if you like the way you look so much do you then ask the person who's helping you with your makeup and stuff re-transform you a little bit?

I did. That's what we did at Jingle Ball.

Those are who are putting me in drag.

Oh, so if you saw Megan at Jingle Ball or any of these pictures that we have. Right. Okay, all right.

Yeah, so I'm really excited about this. I haven't done it in a really, really long time. Now, the people that are putting this on, we do a lot of charity events in Toledo all the time that are drag events. I host them just as myself. The last one we did was around Halloween. They do a lot of food drives with stuff like this or toy drives. That's the mission of usually the shows that they put on this time. I did agree, though.

to get into drag myself, which I haven't done in, like I said, a really, really, really long time. Now, most of the events that we do together, and we had done them at like Ottawa Tavern or the old Hamburger Mary, like all different stuff. The Hamburger Mary's in Toledo has moved. They've all been like four o'clock events. So I just assumed this was another four o'clock event. And I will do drag at four. I don't care. That's great to me because I'm still getting into bed by eight or nine and i'm a happy camper i just realized the show starts at 10 p.m and i can not do this i don't know how to back out this late but i am out i can like i have not stayed up this late and i couldn't even tell you how long i even feel like post-covid culture about going out has roughly changed i mean back just a few years ago we would like go out at 10 stay out until four because you've got to go get food after the bars or the club closes we started going out at like nine and being like one o'clock in the morning i'm good oh yeah i cannot do this i'm you're everybody's gonna be just drinking and being crazy upstairs i'm gonna be downstairs in the dressing room sleeping i don't know i had a 5 15 dinner reservation yesterday true golden girl but you know what time i scheduled an appointment with my therapist at four o'clock and he's like that's kind of late for you and i went i know i know i don't know

how it is but it seems to me that there are certain uh lifestyles like uh hairdressers uh hair like uh uh i'm trying to think uh food and food service industry food service industry people uh folks that do drag i think that you guys all need to get to bed earlier and start earlier i don't know what is going on why you guys feel like why does everybody feel like they need to go out so late like you know nothing good ever happens after midnight my mom told me once like what is it that's you know you seriously why can't you do the drag show at four in the

afternoon for megan i i prefer this they're dragging it into the late night

i know there used to be one in grand rapids there was one i believe in ipsy and maybe one in lansing what's it called hamburger mary's okay there's only now the one in grand rapids closed now the only one around here is in toledo but i didn't know if you had been to either of that or any of them across the country.

Are drag shows like karaoke? Like, what happens at a drag show?

Have you ever been to a drag show? That is so fun.

I know that's shocking. No, I've never been to a drag show. It's so much fun.

I'm not kidding you. The person I've seen have the most fun at a drag show is my father, Scott Mix. What happens? I can see that. He has a blast. There are all different kinds of drag shows. That Golden Girls tour that I'm promoting, that's a drag show.

They're performing. They're entertainers.

There are theater versions of it. There are cabaret versions of it. There's something trying to transfer onto Broadway by Alaska from RuPaul's Drag Race. So, like, there are full. Jinx Monsoon and Benda LaCreme were just in town, and they do more, like, cabaret.

For Kev, they ever do drag basketball? Oh, my God, that would be amazing.

I don't know about drag basketball.

You can't dribble through your legs in a skirt. Yes, you can. In a skirt? How do you do that?

You've never seen a drag person perform? They do crazy things. What's the type of drag show you're going to? The one that I'm doing, well, there's a whole bunch of different styles. So I would say, like, the person who did my hair for the event is a live singer. So they sing live, and there are other people there that are going to be doing stand-up, and there are other people that are going to be lip-syncing and dancing and doing, like, tumbling tricks. Like, there are gymnastics and stuff. So there are different versions.

Hey, I just have to ask, what is Megan's drag name? so i don't know because like last time i did it i was just promoting um pride in toledo and so i was just on stage and they announced me as me from the radio station and the time before that i was a drag king so i had a guy name so i need a femme queen name i always feel like they come up with the best names yeah like they're like oh i love like karen from finance is one of my favorite drag queen's name here from finance please welcome to the stage karen from finance okay

DJ, DJ. The politicians that you find are doing drag, but they don't tell anybody. They're the guys that talk out against drag. That was that dude doing cameos now.

Because Megan gives me Sparkle vibes and Crystal Sparkle. Oh. So I love Sharon Needles, and I also love Crystal Method, which is very funny. I like Crystal Method. I like those kinds of names. So, like, I get the Crystal part, but Crystal Method's already taken.

in high school i did it since my sophomore year and i kind of want to continue it was the only thing i was good at i didn't want to move to a four-year i don't think i was mentally prepared I found Bishop State. They had the program. I met a few people there. I ended up enrolling. The instructor, first day I met him, I told him about my background. He said, okay, great. You know about this. He built me straight to work. He didn't let me have any leeway. He pushed me to my limits. So I think that made me choose drafting design at Bishop State and stuck with it. The sport's amazing. All my instructors just want to see me succeed. They want to push me to my limit. They want to see me be the best I can be, get a job, just be as successful as I can be. And I really appreciate all of them. With my degree, as of right now, my plan is to work for the city of with their urban planning department and i've already got a job shadow before and hopefully i will end the ship over the summer you choose bishop we're welcome to have you any day ready
