podcasts. Megan. Yeah. We got to get you in the Christmas spirit. What's going on? I don't know

00:02:04 - 00:03:31 | Speaker 5:

what's going on this year, man. Um, it's funny that I just talked about going, uh, Christmas shopping with Santa and getting my own gifts. I don't think that's the problem here before you come at me and start saying that, uh, that's something that we've been doing now for about 10 years and I've been in the Christmas spirit past years, but I don't know what it is about this year i don't know what's going on um i'm actually in the best place that i've ever been in my life and i do not feel like it is christmas at all i am not in the christmas spirit it does not feel like christmas i mean the temperatures are cold sometimes it's like a warm year and you're like in the christmas spirit but it doesn't feel like christmas i'm in neither it doesn't feel like the holidays and i'm not like super excited and this is my favorite time of year this is like when I thrive I talk about it all the time on the show I love winter I love the holidays like this this is really where I kind of soar as a human being and there was one year where I didn't decorate my apartment like I didn't put up a Christmas tree or anything and I hated it I just it didn't feel like Christmas it felt like I missed out and so I made a big deal this year about like I specifically decorated for fall and Thanksgiving and like actively changing that over to christmas like get yourself in the mood for it and i live right by the tree in downtown detroit where the ice rink is and all of the shopping what are those little things called the glass house the glass house like there is christmas around me i have put on christmas music but it

00:03:31 - 00:03:36 | Speaker 7:

doesn't feel like christmas a lot of people are saying this this year i don't know what the story

00:03:36 - 00:03:58 | Speaker 6:

is just had a conversation with all of my friends and every single one of us and i said it on the show the other day i don't feel very merry this year and i don't i don't know why i know i don't i don't know i mean like i obviously have a lot of change going on more than normal but it there's something about like the the feeling or the vibe this year i i i don't know what it is for everybody

00:03:58 - 00:04:23 | Speaker 7:

somebody told me that they think that the weather got you know really warm and then it kind of changed their spirit towards things and then a lot of people are saying honestly you know times are tough. There's a lot of people that are kind of struggling. You don't want to feel the spirit because you're afraid if you do, it's like shoving it in people's faces. 844 Mojo Live. 844-665-6548. Anybody else feeling the same way?

00:04:23 - 00:04:30 | Speaker 5:

I want to make it clear. I'm good. I'm fine. I'm not sad. Life is good. It doesn't feel like Christmas.

00:04:31 - 00:04:32 | Speaker 7:

I don't know what it is.

00:04:32 - 00:04:50 | Speaker 6:

Most years, most days, I'm rocking WNIC, our sister station in Detroit, on the way in and listening to Band-Aid and Wham and Mariah Carey and this year I'm like, I'll just listen to the news on the way in. Why do I feel that way? Why? I don't know.

00:04:50 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 7:

It's depressing. Boy, look at these texts. A lot of people texting up and telling us they say the same thing. If you're looking...

00:05:00 - 00:05:10 | Speaker 2:

for uh weather to change your mind we get some snow coming our way so monday tuesday yeah and tomorrow uh tonight during the overnight tomorrow's drive should be like what it was last week when we

00:05:10 - 00:05:36 | Speaker 6:

were driving it is gonna be what's up sarah how you doing hey guys um i can completely agree with megan um this year has just been really rough for my family and stuff um i'm getting a lot of um family changes and like a death too um so i completely agree with megan it's like hard for me and my family to get in the christmas spirit this year when you're talking about a lot of

00:05:36 - 00:05:39 | Speaker 2:

family changes obviously the death is a huge change but what are some of the other changes

00:05:39 - 00:05:47 | Speaker 6:

going on just like how how people are handling it and stuff it's not like something i like to

00:05:47 - 00:05:54 | Speaker 2:

talk about on the radio yeah um who died if you don't mind me asking is it a mom or or dad my

00:05:54 - 00:06:08 | Speaker 6:

grandpa my grandpa and it's like it's really hard we're trying to make my grandma you know happy as can be and stuff but it's sometimes really hard i'm gonna start crying i'm so sorry

00:06:08 - 00:06:14 | Speaker 1:

you really feel it especially around the holiday yeah yeah and i'm going through something as well

00:06:14 - 00:06:21 | Speaker 6:

as just like i like it's different this year for sure well we hope that listening to our show kind

00:06:21 - 00:06:40 | Speaker 2:

of helps put you in the mood, minus this topic. But I also hope that some of the things that we're doing, like I've heard a lot of people say our breaking and entering Christmas wishes, have made them realize how blessed they are even in times when they're experiencing losses just like you are. And we're thinking of you, Sarah. We're going to pray for you, okay? Thank you. Praying for your family.

00:06:40 - 00:06:42 | Speaker 5:

I love you guys. We love you too.

00:06:43 - 00:06:44 | Speaker 2:

Jamal, what's up?

00:06:45 - 00:07:10 | Speaker 5:

Hey, what's up, Mojo? Hey, Megan, man. I feel that. And I feel that, and I will say, you guys do bring spirit to me in the morning. I really enjoy listening to you guys. No, I just feel like as we get older, it just does get that feel. I mean, even with Halloween, you know, Thanksgiving, it just feels, my birthday even. I just felt like there's just, it's not a whole lot of spirit to things as we get older. How do we fix that?

00:07:11 - 00:07:37 | Speaker 1:

Like, okay, so here's where I fall with the last couple of holidays. Halloween, I still love. Even as an adult, it's fun to pass out candy. I think it's so much, like, I actually think it's more fun as an adult on Halloween than it probably was as a kid. Then Thanksgiving is more stressful than anything. I love it. Don't get me wrong. I love spending time with my loved ones, but it's, like, a lot of work. And now this is rolling around, and I'm like, this is financially draining. And it's, I don't know. It's just, like, not fun anymore.

00:07:38 - 00:07:55 | Speaker 3:

Yeah. Like, I feel like as a kid, we didn't have any responsibility. You just had to show up and have the fun. And all the responsibility was on the elders. and now that the elders are either too old to be that engaged or they've passed on the responsibility is on us and we're just not stepping up to the plate well it's time to step up

00:07:55 - 00:08:05 | Speaker 5:

and i think they're just financially drained i mean i feel like that's it it's just a lot of financial draining you put so much effort into it it's like okay but it doesn't have to be things

00:08:05 - 00:08:15 | Speaker 2:

that you're buying financially like it could just be the spirit of being decorating and being around a tree or just or honestly just seeing snowfall outside of your window sometimes i tried i tried

00:08:15 - 00:08:20 | Speaker 3:

that one time they say it's the thought that counts so i try to give my family members my

00:08:20 - 00:08:26 | Speaker 2:

thoughts they didn't receive it well oh my god sierra what's up it's mojo in the morning

00:08:26 - 00:08:42 | Speaker 4:

yeah i i totally agree i was just going to say that i think it's financially draining you know we've done it almost every year for our whole life so it's like what's next and you get those two days you spend christmas eve and christmas and then you get the memories but

00:08:42 - 00:09:02 | Speaker 2:

you know what though and i get it how old are you i'm 27 and i think honestly this is kind of this is kind of the thing you know it's kind of the thing of you do you gotta like try to carry it on you know what i mean otherwise it's like you're gonna stay in that depression

00:09:02 - 00:09:13 | Speaker 4:

yeah and i know this is the first year without my father you know he just passed eight months ago so this is the first christmas without him and i i just really want to stay busy i don't really want be cheerful. Question for you.

00:09:14 - 00:09:16 | Speaker 2:

How would your dad want you to celebrate Christmas?

00:09:18 - 00:09:20 | Speaker 4:

I think my dad would want me to save as much money as I could.

00:09:21 - 00:09:27 | Speaker 2:

But how would he want you to experience Christmas? Would he want you to be down or would he want you to be happy and enjoying Christmas?

00:09:29 - 00:09:36 | Speaker 4:

I think he would want me to make sure my brothers and sisters have a nice Christmas. Just keep the tradition alive.

00:09:37 - 00:09:37 | Unknown:

Yeah.

00:09:37 - 00:10:00 | Speaker 2:

Then you know what? We got to carry on his traditions, right? I know sometimes it's hard, but sometimes it's, I mean, listen, I've talked about my mom dying. My mom died when I was 14 years old, and I will say this to you, that no Christmas was worse than that Christmas. I will say this to you, my sisters all said, mom loved Christmas. So it was one of those things where it's like.

00:10:00 - 00:10:10 | Speaker 5:

Like, you have to do it. And honestly, sometimes if you're not around kids, you don't do it. You know what I mean? And I think you almost have to, like, see it through the eyes of kids. See it through the eyes of what you remember as your best Christmases ever.

00:10:10 - 00:10:10 | Speaker 3:

Yeah.

00:10:11 - 00:10:11 | Speaker 5:

You know?

00:10:11 - 00:10:24 | Speaker 3:

When I get the good food no more, the jokes, the empty boxes under the tree. Like, I'm not going to get none of that no more. So it's like, it's not going to be the same. It's going to be Christmas, but it's not going to be that special Christmas what made it Christmas.

00:10:25 - 00:10:29 | Speaker 5:

I think we're all smoking too much weed and drinking too much alcohol. And we're all depressed.

00:10:29 - 00:10:30 | Speaker 4:

I don't even do either of those anymore.

00:10:30 - 00:10:32 | Speaker 5:

I think we're all depressed right now.

00:10:32 - 00:10:34 | Speaker 4:

Maybe that's why. Maybe we need to start doing those again.

00:10:34 - 00:10:34 | Speaker 5:

Yeah, it might be.

00:10:34 - 00:10:39 | Speaker 4:

Bring back the merriment. Bruh, I haven't smoked weed a long time.

00:10:39 - 00:10:45 | Speaker 1:

I may or may not have taken an elbow a couple weeks ago. Whoa, whoa, it messed me up. I was like, how did I do this all the time?

00:10:46 - 00:10:49 | Speaker 5:

Melanie, put us in the spirit right now. Melanie, what's up?

00:10:50 - 00:11:19 | Speaker 1:

Okay, so I'm just thinking that maybe the reason why some of us are feeling the way we're feeling is because we're losing the reason for the season. And if we just really embrace the birth of Christ and what Christmas is and what that means, going to church, doing the Advent calendar, lighting your candles, just really, you know, embracing it, maybe we wouldn't be lost in the commercial end of things.

00:11:19 - 00:11:36 | Speaker 4:

I love that you said that. I'm going to post a video to, I'll post it to my Instagram And it's Santa Claus talking about just that, the reason for the season and what makes Christmas so special. And that's such a good reminder. I need to watch it again because you're right. You're absolutely right.

00:11:36 - 00:11:38 | Speaker 5:

Hey, thank you for the call, Melanie.

00:11:38 - 00:11:39 | Speaker 1:

Yeah, thank you.

00:11:39 - 00:11:57 | Speaker 5:

Merry Christmas. Merry Christmas. I do think that the reason for the season, obviously, for those that are believers, is that. And then the other reason for the season, too, is there ain't nothing better than some fat guy that we allow to come into our house. Eat our food. He eats and drinks our, you know, milk and cookies.

00:11:57 - 00:11:58 | Speaker 4:

He gets stuck in our chimney.

00:11:58 - 00:12:09 | Speaker 5:

Sometimes people say that he's making out with mom or, you know, grandma got run over by a reindeer. What are some of the other ones? There's a hippopotamus somewhere.

00:12:09 - 00:12:11 | Speaker 4:

Bring in some teeth, some front teeth.

00:12:12 - 00:12:33 | Speaker 5:

Yeah, front teeth. By the way, you understand that if Santa Claus and the whole thought of Santa Claus came around nowadays, they would have put that son of a bitch in jail and they would have never let him come to somebody's house. They would have thought he was one of those gangs from another country coming to rob our homes. That bastard Mike Bouchard would have had him real quick.

00:12:33 - 00:13:03 | Speaker 6:

He would have had handcuffs on that guy so fast. They've taken over cities before, but this July, they're bringing the X Games League Championship home to New Orleans, July 24th through 26th at the Superdome. Honestly, honestly, honestly, no one wants to think about HIV, but there are things that everyone can do to help prevent it. things like PrEP. PrEP stands for pre-exposure prophylaxis, and it means routinely taking prescription medicine before you're exposed to HIV to help reduce your chances of getting it. PrEP can be about 99% effective when taken as prescribed. It doesn't protect against other STIs though, so be sure to use condoms and other healthy sex practices. Ask a healthcare provider about all your prevention options and visit findoutaboutprep.com to learn more. Sponsored by Gilead.
