Good morning. It is Mojo in the Morning Show. So you are on the campus of UT, University of Toledo, your alma mater.

00:01:26 - 00:01:56 | Speaker 2:

yeah i had to think about it yes i had to think about it i went to do two different colleges i went to bowling green right and then ut can you name either of their mascots oh i do uh i love how you guys are so proud of me i know that i knew it what wait real quick so did you get kicked out of bowling green and that's why you went to ut no i loved bg i loved bg so much but i actually want to be close i got when i got hired to the radio station full time i i switched schools to make things easier bg's kind of far out from me it was like a 45 minute drive And I was commuting.

00:01:56 - 00:01:57 | Speaker 3:

Every day, that'd be crazy.

00:01:57 - 00:02:05 | Speaker 5:

So you were on campus, and you were doing some, what, social posts and stuff? Or is it Celsius?

00:02:06 - 00:03:47 | Speaker 2:

Yeah, I don't know if you know this, but I am, I'm sorry. I was trying to be serious there for a second. I want to be like, I'm an influencer. I am not. I am the farthest thing from. Yeah, you are. No, not really. And I learned that lesson kind of the hard way yesterday. So we were out at the campus of UT, go Rockets. and i was sitting literally in the middle of the quad there's a the giant school seal you know all the rumors you gotta walk around it counterclockwise until after you graduate you're gonna fail all your classes so we're we're sitting around that but the way ut is set up um their main campus is like a giant circle so all the buildings are in a giant circle there's like a spoke wagon wheel does that make sense yeah yeehaw okay uh set up in the uh sidewalks and so everything kind of cuts through campus we're sitting literally in the middle and we're filming tiktoks and we're being funny we're being so i had never been so disrespected by 18 to 22 year olds in my entire life because when i told you the dirty looks i received the i can't even call it cat calling i was yelled at but not in a positive i'd like to take you out way but in a you're too old to be here what are you doing kind of way and it was a big slap in the face that i uh i'm not on the cusp i i'm not you guys I've learned my lesson. I'm a full millennial because these kids thought I was very out of touch and very not cool, and I had never been more embarrassed in my entire life, especially because I consume a lot of TikToks. I love TikTok. It is my new favorite social media platform. I see people vlogging out in public all the time. They're at restaurants. They're on campuses. They're on cruises.

00:03:47 - 00:03:51 | Speaker 1:

Does that make you cool with the youths to be watching TikTok?

00:03:51 - 00:03:57 | Speaker 2:

Well, I tried, but I will never, ever film in public again. I will never, ever do it. I don't know how people do it.

00:03:58 - 00:04:06 | Speaker 5:

So are you coming around to me in regards to saying that the teens and 20-somethings, what generation are they?

00:04:06 - 00:04:08 | Speaker 2:

They're Gen Z. Gen Z. They're who I look up to.

00:04:08 - 00:04:12 | Speaker 5:

They don't care about anybody. Are you in there?

00:04:12 - 00:04:13 | Speaker 2:

And I respect that about them.

00:04:13 - 00:04:21 | Speaker 5:

Yes, because here you are. You're trying to get them to be part of your role. Yes, and nobody wanted to talk to us. And nobody wants to play it.

00:04:21 - 00:04:24 | Speaker 2:

Nobody wanted to talk to us. Nobody wanted to come near us.

00:04:24 - 00:04:25 | Speaker 5:

Yeah.

00:04:25 - 00:04:27 | Speaker 2:

They started laughing at me when I was doing a TikTok dance.

00:04:28 - 00:04:30 | Speaker 5:

Did you explain to them that you're an influencer? No.

00:04:30 - 00:04:42 | Speaker 2:

And that they should be excited to see you? One dude was like, how many social media followers do you have? Which is an awkward question. Because if I say a lot, it sounds conceited. And if I say a little, it sounds like I'm desperate. So there's no right answer.

00:04:42 - 00:04:45 | Speaker 5:

How many do you have? If you say your numbers, they've got to look at that. Your numbers are good.

00:04:45 - 00:04:49 | Speaker 2:

I felt embarrassed. So I didn't respond. How many do you have? That's what I thought.

00:04:49 - 00:04:52 | Speaker 3:

You have a lot more than that kid does. Let's put it that way.

00:04:52 - 00:04:54 | Speaker 5:

How many social media followers do you have?

00:04:54 - 00:04:55 | Speaker 2:

It's not that many.

00:04:56 - 00:04:57 | Speaker 5:

Go ahead. Tell us.

00:04:57 - 00:04:58 | Speaker 2:

On TikTok?

00:04:58 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 5:

Yeah.

00:04:59 - 00:04:59 | Speaker 2:

I think like three.

00:05:00 - 00:05:00 | Speaker 4:

40,000. Okay.

00:05:00 - 00:05:03 | Speaker 2:

How many do you have, though, on your Instagram? Your Instagram's got a ton.

00:05:04 - 00:05:04 | Speaker 4:

Close to 40.

00:05:05 - 00:05:06 | Speaker 2:

40,000. Not 40.

00:05:06 - 00:05:09 | Speaker 4:

Listen here, youths. I got 40,000 followers.

00:05:09 - 00:05:11 | Speaker 2:

Put them all together. What I do is add them all up.

00:05:11 - 00:05:17 | Speaker 5:

Because I saw your Instagram live, and I was like, when are they going to talk to someone? You guys were kind of sitting there talking to each other.

00:05:17 - 00:05:32 | Speaker 4:

Well, here's what I learned the kids were right. Because as I was doing a tic-tac dance that will eventually get posted, but my pride is a little hurt right now. Yeah. I fell while trying to get off screen. And I hurt my knee so bad I've been limping all morning

00:05:32 - 00:05:35 | Speaker 2:

I think I might have

00:05:35 - 00:05:36 | Speaker 4:

Torn my ACL That's the problem

00:05:36 - 00:05:41 | Speaker 2:

They see you limping around They're like who's this old lady right here doing this thing

00:05:41 - 00:05:47 | Speaker 4:

They genuinely was like she fell And she deserves that I gotta tell you something

00:05:47 - 00:06:06 | Speaker 2:

So I was on Michigan's campus And I was going to have a meeting with somebody And Nobody looks or talks to each other at all I think what happened was, I think the pandemic has made people not even look at each other. Everybody looks straight ahead, and they all look like zombies as they're walking.

00:06:06 - 00:06:09 | Speaker 5:

And if you say good morning to someone, they'd get shocked. They'd look up like, huh, what?

00:06:10 - 00:06:19 | Speaker 4:

I saw a kid put in his headphones when he saw me talking to somebody. And I was like, you didn't pull up a playlist that fast. I know you can hear me, but you put them in to ignore me.

00:06:19 - 00:06:21 | Speaker 2:

And Nicole, what did you want to say to Megan?

00:06:22 - 00:06:32 | Speaker 1:

So, I know my friend's listening, too. I have a 22-year-old friend named Megan. I'm 32. But I know she would claim you as a Gen Z because we talk about you all the time. Thank you.

00:06:32 - 00:06:36 | Speaker 5:

I love you. That's nice. It might be up for drinks next time. Would she get in a TikTok with her?

00:06:37 - 00:06:42 | Speaker 4:

She probably would. That's a no. That was a respectful no.

00:06:43 - 00:06:43 | Speaker 2:

Joe?

00:06:45 - 00:06:46 | Speaker 6:

Hey, how are you guys doing?

00:06:46 - 00:06:47 | Speaker 2:

Good. What's up, buddy?

00:06:48 - 00:07:22 | Speaker 6:

So, Megan, I get it. College campuses are freaking, they're ruthless nowadays. I go to Michigan State. I'm a senior there. and me and my uh me and my fiance were walking down uh walking down the street one time at night and this car of frat it was a completely empty street until this car of frat guy came driving by and he screamed at us like ew a couple and then they just kept driving you a couple that's what they said yeah they said ew a couple they just kept driving now let me just speak for the

00:07:22 - 00:07:56 | Speaker 5:

youths on one I don't know if I can defend or not because you know I've it's been maybe three years since I've been at a college but um don't laugh but sorry the life of a college student can feel like pure chaos I mean managing classes and a job and an internship and social events and sleep and then you don't even have much personal time and I only know this from talking to my daughter every night that it can get a little pressure on there so when you're just trying to get to your class that you woke up late for and you realize you don't have your paper done and you're walking and all of a sudden you look up and you see two girls tiktok dancing with cans of product and

00:07:56 - 00:08:22 | Speaker 2:

they're trying to allure you into their world but they are giving you three i remember going on i remember going on uh michigan's campus actually i'm sorry no it was oakland use campus and we were doing a thing uh for craft macaroni and cheese and we had boxes of craft macaroni and cheese i felt like i was getting pummeled by people because they wanted them so bad if you guys go out there with cans of celsius you would think that they would be attacking you for

00:08:22 - 00:08:46 | Speaker 4:

them yeah no no apparently uh if you try to engage with it so i'll tell you what i went to bg's campus a couple of weeks ago to do this we're doing these a lot of college campuses we set up a table with them just sat on the table and we sat there and we didn't talk they were all gone in three minutes we try talking to people they avoid us like that's funny that actually kind of

00:08:46 - 00:08:54 | Speaker 2:

Is like how it is here at the radio station You put food on the free table Everybody grabs it You start talking to people Nobody comes by What's up, Jessie?

00:08:55 - 00:08:57 | Speaker 3:

Good morning How's everyone doing today?

00:08:57 - 00:09:04 | Speaker 2:

We're doing good Megan is feeling very hurt That nobody wanted to talk to her When she was out on campus yesterday

00:09:04 - 00:09:25 | Speaker 3:

You know, that is okay I'm in my early 20s And I'm a professor at Wayne State I teach a basic engineering class All my students are right around the age of 18 And possibly up to 20 And they don't think I'm cool at all I start off the day, you know, with a dad joke You know, like, why did the cookie go to the doctor? Because he feels crummy They don't think I'm cool

00:09:25 - 00:09:31 | Speaker 5:

Wow, absolute gold Wow, you just put yourself in the other category And said, I'm an old

00:09:31 - 00:09:36 | Speaker 2:

You know what, though? You should say to them, I control your grade

00:09:36 - 00:09:56 | Speaker 4:

Here's what I think Oh, 100% I threaten them all the time I love it Jesse, tell me if you think I'm right I feel like Gen Z just is desperate for us to prove ourselves to them and we're desperate enough for their approval that we'll do anything and i've i've lost all self-respect 100 100 i'm over here like throwing myself

00:09:56 - 00:10:00 | Speaker 3:

like like a clown and you know they just don't buy it some of them some of them do

00:10:00 - 00:10:03 | Speaker 1:

but most of them just laugh at me, not because of what I'm doing.

00:10:03 - 00:10:25 | Speaker 3:

Megan will come to your campus next, and then you just get all the professors together, and that's how you get them to drink it, okay? Yeah, yeah, yeah, please. All right, take care of yourself.
